Both the colchicine-resistant Sc9(ColO) and vincristine-resis-tant Sc9(VCR5) cells displayed an accelerated HMBA-induced commitment to terminal cell differentiation, whereas the adriamycin-resistant SC9 (A 120) showed no acceleration but rather a substantial delay in HMBA-induced differentiation. The studies provide more clues as well as experimental models for further study on the mechanism of induced differentiation of MEL cells.展开更多

The argyrophilic staining technique was used in differential diagnosis between non-odgkin's lymphoraa (NHL) and reactive hyperplasia (RH) of lymphatic tissues in 30 cases of RH and 71 cases of NHL which were class...The argyrophilic staining technique was used in differential diagnosis between non-odgkin's lymphoraa (NHL) and reactive hyperplasia (RH) of lymphatic tissues in 30 cases of RH and 71 cases of NHL which were classified as low (11 cases), moderate (49 cases) and high malignant (11 cases) groups. The mumber and the area of Ag nucleolar organizer region (AgNORs) in 100 cells of each case were examined by both IBAS-200 cytoimage analyser and microscope. The results showed that there was significant difference in the number, but not in area, of AgNOR granules between RH and low malignant group of NHL (P< 0.001). In NHL, the significant differences in the number and area of AgNORs were found between each groups (P<0.05 or P< 0.001). It was also observed that in NHL, the number of AgNOR was negatively correlated with the area of the granules, and the shapes and distribution patterns of AgNOR were significantly different between each groups. Our results suggest that the quantitative study of AgNOR combining with the histological characteristics is very helpful in the differential diagnosis of RH and NHL and in the classification of NHL.展开更多

The effect of vari...The differential potentiometric stripping analysis (DPSA) with Nafion coated carbon fibre electrode has been studied, and a method to determine lead and cadmium in urine directly has been attempted. The effect of various experimental parameters on the DPSA response is discussed. The experimental conditions include 0.2M sodium perchlorate, deposition potential of-1.0 or -1.1 V and using 20 ppm mercuric ion as oxidizing agent. The response of the signal is in linear relation with the concentrations of lead and cadmium respectively up to 0.5 ppm. The electrode coated with Nafion film alleviates the interference from organics in urine samples.展开更多

Polyvinyl alcohol-activated charcoal(PVA-AC) composite scaffolds were deve...The present work focused on developing an innovative composite material by reinforcing polymer matrix with highly porous activated charcoal. Polyvinyl alcohol-activated charcoal(PVA-AC) composite scaffolds were developed by varying the AC concentrations(0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 wt%) in PVA matrix by freeze drying method. The developed scaffolds were characterized for their physicochemical, mechanical and in-vitro biological properties. In addition, the effect of AC on the attachment, proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast MG 63 cells was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay, alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity assay and alizarin red stain-based(ARS) assay. All the PVA-AC composite scaffolds exhibited good bioactivity, hemocompatibility and protein adsorption properties. The scaffolds with high AC concentration(2.5 wt%) showed controlled drug release kinetics that are suitable for long term healing. The mechanical properties of all the PVA-AC composite scaffolds were improved when compared to the pure PVA scaffold. The high porosity, swelling degree and hydrophilicity of PVA-AC composite scaffolds facilitated cell attachment and proliferation. This is due to porous AC present in the sample that supported the osteoblast differentiation and formed mineralized nodules without the addition of any extra agents. From the above studies, it can be concluded that PVA-AC composite scaffolds are promising biomaterials for bone tissue engineering applications.展开更多
