The model is analyzed by considering the effects of ext...In this article, a nonlinear mathematical model for innovation diffusion with stage structure which incorporates the evaluation stage (time delay) is proposed. The model is analyzed by considering the effects of external as well as internal influences and other demographic processes such as emigration, intrinsic growth rate, death rate, etc. The asymptotical stability of the various equilibria is investigated. By analyzing the exponential characteristic equation with delay-dependent coefficients obtained through the variational matrix, it is found that Hopf bifurcation occurs when the evaluation period (time delay, T) passes through a critical value. Applying the normal form theory and the center manifold argument, we de- rive the explicit formulas determining the properties of the bifurcating periodic solutions. To illustrate our theoretical analysis, some numerical simulations are also included.展开更多

Under the background of collaborative innovation,innovation spillovers at urban agglomeration(UA)level is an important issue but rarely discussed.Using balanced panel data of innovation activities in China’s five UAs...Under the background of collaborative innovation,innovation spillovers at urban agglomeration(UA)level is an important issue but rarely discussed.Using balanced panel data of innovation activities in China’s five UAs from 2003 to 2016,this paper shows spatio-temporal evolution process of their technological innovation capacity with discussing polarization-diffusion patterns,and simultaneously examines driving factors of that evolution processes.We report three main findings:1)there is a high degree of concentration in technological innovation capacity distribution within all China’s five UAs,linked by economic and innovation collaboration.2)Innovation capacity increase of China’s five UAs is driven by government’s investment in science and technology(S&T)to a large extent,followed by influences of infrastructure facilities construction,human capital for S&T,as well as transformation of industrial structure,with great disparities emerged between UAs in our sample period.3)While the intra-region innovation gaps are reducing in Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration(YRD)with obvious innovation diffusion,urban agglomeration in middle reaches of the Yangtze River(MYR)is still dominated by innovation polarized growth.Differences in polarization-diffusion patterns between these two UAs may be explained by opposite returns of industrial structure and internet infrastructure.Our findings contribute to more effective policy making in promoting innovation development when reducing regional inequality through innovation diffusion.展开更多

The international community has blamed developing countries for the lack of intellectual property rights(IPR)protection-not least the“forced technology transfers”-in attracting foreign direct investment(FDI).This pa...The international community has blamed developing countries for the lack of intellectual property rights(IPR)protection-not least the“forced technology transfers”-in attracting foreign direct investment(FDI).This paper employs the largesample contract data of multinational companies’(MNCs)IT R&D transactions in China to discuss this controversy from a unique perspective of MNCs in the role of contractors.Our findings suggest that MNCs initially guarded their know-how before the 2000s under closed innovation,but have started to take the initiative to transfer technology to local partners as open innovation held sway.China’s structured market entities and huge demand for technology transactions have served as key drivers for MNCs to transfer technology,which has been further boosted by the new business model of open innovation.This paper’s empirical analysis not only helps unravel the“black box”of technology transfers by MNCs,but reveals how late-moving developing countries may make better use of FDI referencing China’s experience on the three dimensions of market opportunities,structured entities,and economies of scale.展开更多

Why and how to develop cloud manufacturing platform(CMP), however, remains the key concern of both platform o...Cloud manufacturing is a specific implementation form of the "Internet + manufacturing" strategy. Why and how to develop cloud manufacturing platform(CMP), however, remains the key concern of both platform operators and users. A microscopic model is proposed to investigate advantages and diffusion forces of CMP through exploration of its diffusion process and mechanism. Specifically, a three-stage basic evolution process of CMP is innovatively proposed. Then, based on this basic process, a more complex CMP evolution model has been established in virtue of complex network theory, with five diffusion forces identified. Thereafter, simulations on CMP diffusion have been conducted. The results indicate that, CMP possesses better resource utilization,user satisfaction, and enterprise utility. Results of simulation on impacts of different diffusion forces show that both the time required for CMP to reach an equilibrium state and the final network size are affected simultaneously by the five diffusion forces. All these analyses indicate that CMP could create an open online cooperation environment and turns out to be an effective implementation of the "Internet + manufacturing" strategy.展开更多

One year after completion of a randomized controlled HIV prevention trial on Facebook, 112 minority men who have sex with men (MSM) were asked to refer African-American and/or Latino sex partners to complete a survey. Results suggest that, compared to non-referrers, referrers spent more time online, controlling for age, race, education, and condition. Over 60% of referrals reported hearing about the intervention, and over half reported that the referrer talked to them about changing health behaviors. Results provide support and initial feasibility of using social networking for diffusing community-based HIV interventions.展开更多

Since the notion of diffusion describes the systemic spread and systemic equilibrium in more powerful terms and demonstrates dynamism, I examined the military doctrinal diffusion patterns in terms of organizational, societal, and rational approach perspectives. These approaches are the pillars of the theoretical edifice in which I argue that it is easier to see the systemic diffusion of military strategies than the military innovations on weapons because of two factors: The characteristics of doctrinal innovations and the behaviors of innovators (gatekeepers) are different. I use the heuristic approach and examine many historical cases by focusing on military doctrines and the relationships between alliances. Objective:The study aims to apply diffusion of innovation theory and structural equation modeling(SEM)to explore the current situation of personal risk perception and preparation of family emergency medicine kits(FEMK...Objective:The study aims to apply diffusion of innovation theory and structural equation modeling(SEM)to explore the current situation of personal risk perception and preparation of family emergency medicine kits(FEMKs)in Shanxi Province during the period of COVID-19.Moreover,the study intends to analyze the impact of innovation characteristics and risk perception to provide reference for the future popularization of FEMKs and the formulation of relevant policies.Methods:A total of 1,606 permanent residents in Shanxi Province were selected as respondents.SEM was used to analyze the relationship among innovation characteristics,personal risk perception,and behavioral intention.Results:The results demonstrate that only observability(λ=0.968)exerted a significant direct impact on the public's behavior of preparing FEMKs.Personal risk perception(λ=0.334)can have a significant direct impact on behavioral intention.Relative advantage,compatibility,and convenience of use exerted significant impacts on behavioral intention by influencing individual perceived risk(mediating effects=0.237,0.892,and 1.044,respectively).Conclusion:Residents are undergoing a period of change(i.e.,from the contemplation to the preparation stage).Thus,innovative characteristics can directly influence the behavior or behavioral intention of preparing FEMKs by influencing the public's risk perception.In the future,studies should focus on publicity and education of the behavior of preparing FEMKs to increase the awareness of residents and effectively improve the FEMKs level of importance given to this behavior.展开更多
While green roof technologies are increasingly employed in Northern European countries,adoption is progressing at amuch slower rate in the US.This manuscript discusses results of a survey that quantified knowledge,bar...While green roof technologies are increasingly employed in Northern European countries,adoption is progressing at amuch slower rate in the US.This manuscript discusses results of a survey that quantified knowledge,barriers,and perceivedcosts and benefits to use of green roof technology among a sample of architects and building owners in the Midwest.The survey also examined conditions that may encourage use of this technology among the respondents.Resultsshow that many respondents do not fully recognize the economic or performance advantages offered by green roof technologies.The payback period for economic advantage is longer than owners are willing to consider.Both owners andarchitects possess a wide range of misconceptions about the performance advantages of green roofs.While green roof technologyoffers clear environmental advantages such as reduced stormwater runoff,increased habitat,and cooler temperaturesthat mitigate heat island effects,many building owner respondents either do not know about or value these advantages.This research quantified potential adopters’perceptions of an innovative technology and the survey results areinterpreted and discussed within the conceptual framework of innovation diffusion literature.Strategies to hasten theadoption of green roof technology are suggested.展开更多

TRIZ, as a new theor...Abstract: Innovation is a process of taking an original idea and converting it into a business value, in which the engineers face some inventive problems which can be solved hardly by experience. TRIZ, as a new theory for companies in China, provides both conceptual and procedural knowledge for finding and solving inventive problems. Because the government plays a leading role in the diffusion of TRIZ, too many companies from different industries are waiting to be trained, but the quantity of the trainers mastering TRIZ is incompatible with that requirement. In this context, to improve the training effect, an interactive training model of TRIZ for the mechanical engineers in China is developed and the implementation in the form of training classes is carried out. The training process is divided into 6 phases as follows: selecting engineers, training stage-l, finding problems, training stage-2, finding solutions and summing up. The government, TRIZ institutions and companies to join the programs interact during the process. The government initiates and monitors a project in form of a training class of TRIZ and selects companies to join the programs. Each selected companies choose a few engineers to join the class and supervises the training result. The TRIZ institutions design the training courses and carry out training curriculum. With the beginning of the class, an effective communication channel is established by means of interview, discussion face to face, E-mail, QQ and so on. After two years training practices, the results show that innovative abilities of the engineers to join and pass the final examinations increased distinctly, and most of companies joined the training class have taken congnizance of the power of TRIZ for product innovation. This research proposes an interactive training model of TRIZ for mechanical engineers in China to expedite the knowledge diffusion of TRIZ.展开更多
Adaptive online platforms,powered by artificial intelligence,commonly referred to as robo-advice,steadily increase their market share.Yet these comparably new financial services are critically understudied.Little is k...Adaptive online platforms,powered by artificial intelligence,commonly referred to as robo-advice,steadily increase their market share.Yet these comparably new financial services are critically understudied.Little is known about why some investors adopt robo-advice for something as essential as asset allocation.The current paper tries to close this gap by shedding light on the causal effect of investor overconfidence on the propensity of using robo-advice.The study proposes a theoretical framework that combines the divergence of opinion hypothesis with consumer behavior insights and information technology diffusion research.The framework is empirically tested on the Investor Sample of the 2015 National Financial Capability Study,a subsample of 2000 US investors.The results from a series of generalized linear,structural,and semipara-metric models show that in a pre-chasm market,overconfident investors have a significantly higher propensity of adopting robo-advice.While higher financial literacy seems to decrease robo-advice uptake,unjustified confidence in one’s knowledge causally increases it.Willingness to take financial risk cannot account for the significantly increased adoption of robo-advice among overconfident investors.The findings help managers to better position robo-advice by offering behavioral insights into their user base.In addition,the results outline a managerial tool to take demand-side actions to increase the likelihood of an end-user innovation crossing the chasm.展开更多

文摘The innovations actually diffuse among social network nowadays.Individual heterogeneity,interactions between individuals and network topology influence a lot.We established a "double threshold" modified model and took the number of neighbors,neighbors' adoption and the cost-benefit parameters as crucial influencing factors.The diffusion of DaLingTong(CDMA450)products in MeiShan city of SiChuan province during 2004 to 2007 has been used to verity the model on Matlab.The validation results fit the actual diffusion pattern of DaLingTong(CDMA450) products very well.The results indicate that there exists a "tipping point(threshold)" in the process of innovation diffusion.If the initial adoption quantity is larger than the tipping point,then the product will spread to a large portion of people,otherwise is will collapse to zero.The model can effectively predict the diffusion of new products,and can influence the diffusion process by changing the value of the parameters.

文摘Objective:The study aims to apply diffusion of innovation theory and structural equation modeling(SEM)to explore the current situation of personal risk perception and preparation of family emergency medicine kits(FEMKs)in Shanxi Province during the period of COVID-19.Moreover,the study intends to analyze the impact of innovation characteristics and risk perception to provide reference for the future popularization of FEMKs and the formulation of relevant policies.Methods:A total of 1,606 permanent residents in Shanxi Province were selected as respondents.SEM was used to analyze the relationship among innovation characteristics,personal risk perception,and behavioral intention.Results:The results demonstrate that only observability(λ=0.968)exerted a significant direct impact on the public's behavior of preparing FEMKs.Personal risk perception(λ=0.334)can have a significant direct impact on behavioral intention.Relative advantage,compatibility,and convenience of use exerted significant impacts on behavioral intention by influencing individual perceived risk(mediating effects=0.237,0.892,and 1.044,respectively).Conclusion:Residents are undergoing a period of change(i.e.,from the contemplation to the preparation stage).Thus,innovative characteristics can directly influence the behavior or behavioral intention of preparing FEMKs by influencing the public's risk perception.In the future,studies should focus on publicity and education of the behavior of preparing FEMKs to increase the awareness of residents and effectively improve the FEMKs level of importance given to this behavior.

文摘While green roof technologies are increasingly employed in Northern European countries,adoption is progressing at amuch slower rate in the US.This manuscript discusses results of a survey that quantified knowledge,barriers,and perceivedcosts and benefits to use of green roof technology among a sample of architects and building owners in the Midwest.The survey also examined conditions that may encourage use of this technology among the respondents.Resultsshow that many respondents do not fully recognize the economic or performance advantages offered by green roof technologies.The payback period for economic advantage is longer than owners are willing to consider.Both owners andarchitects possess a wide range of misconceptions about the performance advantages of green roofs.While green roof technologyoffers clear environmental advantages such as reduced stormwater runoff,increased habitat,and cooler temperaturesthat mitigate heat island effects,many building owner respondents either do not know about or value these advantages.This research quantified potential adopters’perceptions of an innovative technology and the survey results areinterpreted and discussed within the conceptual framework of innovation diffusion literature.Strategies to hasten theadoption of green roof technology are suggested.

文摘Abstract: Innovation is a process of taking an original idea and converting it into a business value, in which the engineers face some inventive problems which can be solved hardly by experience. TRIZ, as a new theory for companies in China, provides both conceptual and procedural knowledge for finding and solving inventive problems. Because the government plays a leading role in the diffusion of TRIZ, too many companies from different industries are waiting to be trained, but the quantity of the trainers mastering TRIZ is incompatible with that requirement. In this context, to improve the training effect, an interactive training model of TRIZ for the mechanical engineers in China is developed and the implementation in the form of training classes is carried out. The training process is divided into 6 phases as follows: selecting engineers, training stage-l, finding problems, training stage-2, finding solutions and summing up. The government, TRIZ institutions and companies to join the programs interact during the process. The government initiates and monitors a project in form of a training class of TRIZ and selects companies to join the programs. Each selected companies choose a few engineers to join the class and supervises the training result. The TRIZ institutions design the training courses and carry out training curriculum. With the beginning of the class, an effective communication channel is established by means of interview, discussion face to face, E-mail, QQ and so on. After two years training practices, the results show that innovative abilities of the engineers to join and pass the final examinations increased distinctly, and most of companies joined the training class have taken congnizance of the power of TRIZ for product innovation. This research proposes an interactive training model of TRIZ for mechanical engineers in China to expedite the knowledge diffusion of TRIZ.
文摘Adaptive online platforms,powered by artificial intelligence,commonly referred to as robo-advice,steadily increase their market share.Yet these comparably new financial services are critically understudied.Little is known about why some investors adopt robo-advice for something as essential as asset allocation.The current paper tries to close this gap by shedding light on the causal effect of investor overconfidence on the propensity of using robo-advice.The study proposes a theoretical framework that combines the divergence of opinion hypothesis with consumer behavior insights and information technology diffusion research.The framework is empirically tested on the Investor Sample of the 2015 National Financial Capability Study,a subsample of 2000 US investors.The results from a series of generalized linear,structural,and semipara-metric models show that in a pre-chasm market,overconfident investors have a significantly higher propensity of adopting robo-advice.While higher financial literacy seems to decrease robo-advice uptake,unjustified confidence in one’s knowledge causally increases it.Willingness to take financial risk cannot account for the significantly increased adoption of robo-advice among overconfident investors.The findings help managers to better position robo-advice by offering behavioral insights into their user base.In addition,the results outline a managerial tool to take demand-side actions to increase the likelihood of an end-user innovation crossing the chasm.

文摘Drawing on a valence framework and innovation diffusion theory,this study examines Yuebao deployment to model consumers’intention to use financial products offered online.We collect data via an online survey among a young age bracket and use a VisualPLS graphic interface to test our model.The results indicate that first,compatibility and advantages in relative utility significantly enhance consumers’use intentions and that ease of use has an indirect influence.Second,the negative utility of perceived risk no longer significantly affects intention to use.This mainly lies in consumers’perceived risk focused on the security of online financial products,which has become a part of all online transactions.Third,trust indirectly affects intention to use by influencing utility.
文摘为探索知识图谱软件的扩散路径及扩散影响力,预测其发展趋势,基于创新扩散理论,运用文献计量法和主路径分析法等数据+图谱的方法,根据扩散曲线、扩散路径和扩散网络探索其扩散规律。实证分析得出,知识图谱软件的扩散过程基本符合S型曲线规律。随着软件的更新与迭代,其扩散路径分化出两条关键主路径,主路径上有4个核心人物(Garfield E、Merigo J M、Van Eck N J和Chen C M)和3个重要事件(HistCite、CiteSpace和VOSviewer)。
文摘In the wake of sustainable construction entering the mainstream,many developing countries are either currently pursuing green building guidelines or are planning to pursue them in the near future.This research attempts to formulate an implementation strategy for the rapid adoption of these guidelines for the developing nations.This implementation strategy is based on the detailed review of the major green building guidelines globally and contex-tual information of Indian society collected through a survey questionnaire.The proposed strategy shows that it is important for green building initiatives to identify:the organizations that accelerate the adoption of green building guidelines in a society,the incentives and barriers associated with the green building guidelines,and the necessary motivations for the adopter organizations.An informed approach in the form of this implementation strategy might potentially contribute to the acceleration of green building guidelines’adoption in developing countries.
