Management Communication in University’s Digital Library

Digital library is a process of exploiting more scientific methods to construct a social knowledge network. It represents an “extension” from a traditional library. The core and essence is to build a favorable surroundings for knowledge accumulation, knowledge transfer and knowledge communication. Management communication covers information transfer and organization cooperation. Compared with traditional library, the management communication in digital library shoulders the commitment to support knowledge innovation. On the basis of analysis of the connotation of digital library, this paper analysed the aspects of management communication, including communicators, communication styles, contents, channels and outer communication, all of which tries to construct an integrated model of management communication in a digital library and turns a library into an actual “knowledge fountain”.

Designing a Document Retrieval Method for University Digital Libraries Based on Hadoop Technology

With the development of big data,all walks of life in society have begun to venture into big data to serve their own enterprises and departments.Big data has been embraced by university digital libraries.The most cumbersome work for the management of university libraries is document retrieval.This article uses Hadoop algorithm to extract semantic keywords and then calculates semantic similarity based on the literature retrieval keyword calculation process.The fast-matching method is used to determine the weight of each keyword,so as to ensure an efficient and accurate document retrieval in digital libraries,thus completing the design of the document retrieval method for university digital libraries based on Hadoop technology.

A text to speech interface for Universal Digital Library

The objective of Universal Digital Library (UDL) is to capture all books in digital format. A text to speech (TTS) interface for UDL portal would enable access to the digital content in voice mode, and also provide access to the digital content for illiterate and vision-impaired people. Our work focuses on design and implementation of text to speech interface for UDL portal primarily for Indian languages. This paper is aimed at identifying the issues involved in integrating text to speech system into UDL portal and describes the development process of Hindi, Telugu and Tamil voices under Festvox framework using unit selection techniques. We demonstrate the quality of the Tamil and Telugu voices and lay out the plan for integrating the TTS into the UDL portal.

Italian Case: The Role of Learning Processes in University Inclusion

This proposal is focused on the first outputs of the doctoral thesis“Universitabile”based,specifically,on the relationship between educational inclusion(Ainscow&Miles,2009)and ICT(Information and Communications Technology).Starting from a review of the literature on the role of universities as places of inclusion and confrontation with diversity(Bolt&Penketh,2016;Moriña&Gavira,2015),the proposal analyses the inclusion strategies by three main universities in Rome:La Sapienza,Tor Vergata and Roma Tre through a mixed method approach.We will show the answers to interviews administered to operators of dedicated services.In this context,ICT,during the Covid-19 emergency,acted as a facilitator allowing people with disabilities to benefit from distance learning,but also as a barrier,since the evidence shows that technology,if conceived as a facilitator but designed only on the basis of the characteristics of able-bodied users,can represent an obstacle factor.In this sense,as found by Tsatsou(2020),the inclusion of people with disabilities can be facilitated by the use of digital technologies.This view is also found in Valentini(2008),who emphasises how the use of digital technologies is a prerequisite for the development of concrete solutions.To conclude,it would be appropriate to rethink technology on the basis of Universal Design,i.e.“an approach to the design of technologies that pays more attention to the concept of universal usability:buildings and tools should be conceived,designed and constructed in a way to be usable by all”(Fiocco&Martinati,2002,p.232).

The Current Situation and Improvement of Informatization Construction in Universities in the Era of Digital Education—Taking the Nanchong Campus of Southwest Petroleum University as an Example

Digitization of education is an important component of Digital China Strategy. China is deeply implementing the digitalization of education strategy, promoting educational reform and innovation, and accelerating the construction of a learning society and a learning country where everyone can learn, learn everywhere, and learn at all times [1]. As the cradle and gathering place of talent cultivation, universities should be at the forefront of educational informatization construction. As a comprehensive energy university in the northeastern region of Sichuan, the Nanchong Campus of Southwest Petroleum University plays an irreplaceable role in the local economic development. This article summarizes the current situation of educational informatization construction on this campus and proposes suggestions for its improvement path, providing constructive reference opinions for the development of similar universities.

Providing universal access to Japanese humanities digital libraries:an approach to federated searching system using automatic metadata mapping

We present our approach for constructing a federated searching system for Japanese humanities digital libraries using automatic metadata mapping.We discuss some achievements in the ongoing research to construct a federated searching system. The goals of this system are(1) to perform metadata mapping automatically for Japanese heterogeneous humanities digital libraries and(2) to let users access multiple humanities digital libraries by using only one query input.The proposed automatic metadata mapping method produced the average mapping precision of 94.9%.We also address the metadata-related challenges facing Japanese humanities databases.

The Planning and Design of Digital Smart Campus

Under the background of“Digital Liaoning,Smart Province,”as the application of a new generation of network information technology in colleges and universities,the digital smart campus is an important part of digital Liaoning education informationization.Combined with the overall actual situation of the university campus,in line with the principle of“People-oriented,Service-oriented,Information Interoperability and Data Sharing,”through the idea of“management+service,”the traditional application system with management as the core to the service as the core is realized.On the basis of digital information and networks,a new digital smart campus is built based on several information technologies.From the aspects of architecture design,platform and application integration,systematic overall design and scientific and reasonable deployment,to create an efficient one-stop digital intelligent information service platform to fully optimize the use of digital information resources,to provide timely,accurate and efficient campus information services for teachers,students and staff,and to provide cross-departmental business management and convenient information services for the whole school users through the virtual digital means for display and publicity.The overall planning of the campus is carried out step by step,and the campus network,digitalization,virtualization and intelligence are gradually realized.Expand the time and space dimension of the real campus,improve the overall operation efficiency,and then improve the quality of talent training,management level and management efficiency.

Research on the Development Path and Mechanism of“Double-Qualified”Teachers in Private Universities Under the Background of Digital Transformation

This article explores the development path and mechanism of“double-qualified”teachers in private universities under digital transformation.Through literature review,theoretical analysis,and other research methods,this study conducts an in-depth analysis of the impact of digital technology on the development of“double-qualified”teachers in private colleges and universities and puts forward corresponding strategies and suggestions.Research shows that digital transformation provides new opportunities and challenges for developing“double-qualified”teachers in private colleges and universities.To adapt to this trend,teachers must continuously improve their digital skills,and schools should establish a complete incentive mechanism and evaluation system,strengthen school-enterprise cooperation and the integration of industry and education to promote the comprehensive development of“double-qualified”teachers,and provide a useful guideline for private universities to promote the development of“double-qualified”teachers in digital transformation.

Research on the Improvement and Innovation Paths of Teaching Quality in Private Universities in Zhejiang Province in the Digital Era

In the digital era,the education and teaching of private undergraduate universities in China are undergoing innovative reform.This article uses the literature review method to conduct a survey and research on the quality of teaching resources,teaching platforms,and literature reserves,and proposes a series of strategies and innovative paths to improve the teaching quality of private undergraduate universities.The research results show that the rational use of digital technology can improve the quality of education and teaching,and achieve innovative development in education and teaching.The research results have certain theoretical value and guiding significance for the teaching reform of private undergraduate universities under the background of digital teaching.

Research on College Network Information Security Protection in the Digital Economy Era

Construction and Practice of Education and Teaching Quality Assurance Systems in Applied Colleges and Universities under the Background of Digital Intelligence

This paper discusses the optimization strategy of education and teaching quality assurance systems in applied colleges and universities under the background of digital intelligence.It first summarizes the relevant theories of digital intelligence transformation and analyzes the impact of digital intelligence transformation on higher education.Secondly,this paper puts forward the principles of constructing the quality assurance system of applied colleges,including strengthening the quality assurance consciousness,improving teachers’digital literacy,and implementing digital intelligence governance.From the practical perspective,this paper expounds on strategies such as optimizing educational teaching resource allocation,constructing a diversified evaluation system of teaching quality,strengthening the construction and training of teaching staff,and innovating teaching management methods.Specific optimization measures are put forward,such as improving policies,regulations,and system guarantees,strengthening cooperation between schools and enterprises,integrating industry,school,and research,building an educational information platform,and improving the monitoring and feedback mechanism of educational quality.

Investigation and Analysis on DRS Condition of Agricultural University Libraries in China

31 investigated higher agricultural college libraries all provide the reference consulting service. The service mode includes asynchronous reference consulting, synchronous reference consulting, synchronous and asynchronous reference consulting, joint reference consulting service and traditional reference consulting service. Service items include interlibrary borrowing and document delivery, reader training, special database, resource navigation and so on. But there are some problems to be solved.

Practice and Thinking of University File Digital Construction

Supported by the development of computer network technology, multi-media technology and database technology, file information digitalization as a new morphology of file emerges. This new kind of file morphology could exercise a long-term saving of file resources and efficiently utilize it. File management is the most important part of university information management. However, as various universities are different in their specific practice, file digital construction is different in construction manner and content.

Documenting the University's history in a digital era: Organizing and presenting archival resources at Lingnan University

Purpose: This paper chronicles Lingnan University(Hong Kong) Library’s experience in adopting the open source archival information system, Archon, and an institutional repository(IR) platform, Digital Commons, to create a holistic system for describing, managing and preserving the University’s historical documents.Design/Methodology/Approach: By combining the strength of Archon with Digital Commons, the Library can apply proper archival encoding practice with digital publishing capability to assemble the disparate and fragmentary Lingnan historical records into a more cohesive and well-organized historical collection facilitating wider access.Findings: Both the encoding process and digital publishing efforts have broadened access to several unique and valuable Lingnan records, providing greater search capabilities and accessibility. These initial sets of processed resources have successfully attracted attention from researchers and alumni who have strong interest in consulting the records. Together Archon and Digital Commons provide an ideal platform enabling the Library to reach out to more people who may also be interested in the records and have resulted in more donations to the Archives, further enriching the collection.Research limitations: Our initial efforts have created a solid foundation that we can use to develop a comprehensive archival collection showcasing the history of Lingnan University.However, the Library will need to develop a long-term strategy to formalize University archive policy for the ongoing systematic collection of university records and the effective management of born-digital data.Practical implications: Archival or historical records no longer need to be hidden or inaccessible due to lack of appropriate finding aids and search and retrieval systems. Archon provides an organizational and descriptive framework for the Library to process archival materials and create digital finding aids instantly in compliance with international archival standards, whereas IR software such as Digital Commons offers us a digital publishing platform to present the full-text content of these records online for worldwide access. We believe that as important as it is to collect and process a university’s records for historical preservation, it is equally important to make them easily available and accessible. By exploring the possibility of adopting new tools to manage old processes, we can add value while creating visibility for materials that were once hidden and inaccessible beyond our campus.Originality/value: As the first library in greater China to adopt Archon as well as use an IR platform, Digital Commons, to process archival materials and chronicle a university’s history, Lingnan University Library introduces a new approach that blends tools and resources of both archives and libraries to present a cohesive archival collection in a new digital era.

Comparative study and error analysis of digital elevation model interpolations

Researchers in P.R.China commonly create triangulate irregular networks(TINs) from contours and then convert TINs into digital elevation models(DEMs).However,the DEM produced by this method can not precisely describe and simulate key hydrological features such as rivers and drainage borders.Taking a hilly region in southwestern China as a research area and using ArcGISTM software,we analyzed the errors of different interpolations to obtain distributions of the errors and precisions of different algorithms and to provide references for DEM productions.The results show that different interpolation errors satisfy normal distributions,and large error exists near the structure line of the terrain.Furthermore,the results also show that the precision of a DEM interpolated with the Australian National University digital elevation model(ANUDEM) is higher than that interpolated with TIN.The DEM interpolated with TIN is acceptable for generating DEMs in the hilly region of southwestern China.

Digitally Programmable Voltage Mode Universal Filters—A Minimal Realization

Three voltage mode universal filter biquads using digitally programmable second generation current conveyor (CCII) are presented in this paper. Salient features of proposed filter configurations include realization of all the filter functions except allpass, independently programmable filter parameters, no component matching constraint and low sensitivity figure. Component count of proposed filter configurations is proved to be minimal for offering aforementioned set of features. Workability of proposed circuit is verified by including the SPICE simulations.

Faculty Members’ Attitudes and Perceptions towards E-Publishing at the University of Jordan

Electronic Publishing offers many opportunities to today’s users and scholars that were not available to their predecessors. Because of the multidimensional features of e-Journals, they are becoming the choice of academic as well as public library users. Technology, and particularly the Internet, has great potential for altering scholarly communication and research inhumanities, sciences, social sciences, and health sciences disciplines. Results of scholarly surveys show that there is a significant interest in e-Publication of research. Thus, this research paper investigates the attitudes and perceptions of faculty members at the University of Jordan (UJ) of current issues associated with the use of electronic publishing and perceived obstacles to their extended use for scholarly communication and publication. Specifically, the primary focus of this study is to examine and perceive how faculty members’ use of electronic publications might affect their interest in publishing their own research in electronic formats;as well as to determine the contribution of scholars towards publishing in e-Journals. In order to achieve the research objectives, a questionnaire method was adopted to elicit the opinions of the faculty members;whereas personal interviews were conducted to fill in the gaps. The results of the study reveal that the majority of the faculty members prefer to publish in electronic formats refereed journals, due to the advantages of publishing in e-Journals. Furthermore, the findings show that faculty members are also concerned about the disadvantages of e-Publishing. On the basis of the findings, some suggestions have been recommended to make publishing in e-Journals more acceptable to those scholars at UJ who still do not use it, as well as to maximize the use of e-Publishing because of the advantages that it may offer.
