[Method] The ear lengths and yields of each healthy and infected plant of 5 cultivars were measured during 2009 and 2010. The severity grading criterion was deduced according to the ear length ratios. [Result]When the ratios were 0.92-1.00, 0.67-0.91, 0.41-0.66, 0.10-0.40 and 0, its corresponding disease grading criterions were 0, 1, 3, 5 and 7, respectively. The severity grading criterion was closely correlated to the yield loss. By analyzing the data of disease indexes and yield loss rates of 27 cultivars with DPS (Data Processing System), the regression equations were established respectively. According to the comparison with each other, the Weibull Model was proved to have the highest fitting degree. Validating with the disease indexes of 27 cultivars in 2010, the equation supported the feasibility of the equation to predict the yield loss caused by maize rough dwarf disease. [Conclusion] The paper provided theoretical basis for further study on maize rough dwarf disease.展开更多

However, there are few reports describing favorable genes or QTL from the AA genome wild rice O. longistaminata, which is characterized by tall and robust habit and long tassels and anthers and shows high potential for use in cultivated rice improvement. We constructed a stable BC_(2)F_(20) backcross inbred line(BIL) population of 152 lines from the cross of 9311 × O.longistaminat. Some BILs showed large panicles, large seeds, and strong resistance to rice false smut, bacterial leaf blight, rice blast spot, and brown planthopper. Genomic resequencing showed that the 152 BILs covered about 99.6% of the O. longistaminata genome. QTL mapping with 2432 bin markers revealed 13QTL associated with seven yield traits and eight with resistance to brown planthopper and to four diseases. Of these QTL, 12 for grain yield and 11 for pest and disease resistance are novel in Oryza species.A large-panicle NIL1880 line containing QTL qPB8.1 showed a nearly 50% increase in spikelet number and27.5% in grain yield compared to the recurrent parent 9311. These findings support the potential value of O. longistaminata for cultivated rice improvement.展开更多

According to the relevant resistance identification standards, Xundan.509 was classified as resistance variety; Yudan606, Jinsai38 and Xundan3136 were classified as moderate resistance ones, while the other 21 varieties were highly susceptible varieties. Using the yield loss rate of 5% as the critical value of disease tolerance standard, XundanS09, Yudan606, Jinsai38, Xundan3136, Huaiyu5288, QiaoyuS, XY046, Zhengyu10, Lile66, WeikeT02 and Xundan29 were classified into tolerance varieties of corn stalk rot. The concept between disease resistance and disease tolerance was distinguished. The diseased plant rate was used as the classification basis of disease resistance and the yield loss rate was used as the evaluation standard of disease tolerance. A participatory rural appraisal was conducted in two main rice cultivation areas in Burkina Faso to assess farmers’ awareness of rice production constraints with emphasis on rice yellow mottle disease (RYMD) and its management. Farmers’ preference for rice varieties to be used in the breeding program was also assessed. Major concerns for rice cultivation as perceived by farmers were water shortage and RYMD. However, relative importance of each constraint depended on the survey areas, RYMD being prominent at Banzon while water shortage predominated at Mogtedo. Mogtedo farmers preferred rice variety FKR19 because of its tolerance to drought. At Banzon, farmers’ first criterion was taste which was reflected in the choice of variety FKR18. Yield was also a major criterion in both areas, positioning NERICA varieties FKR56N, FKR62N, and FKR60N among the top preferred varieties. Farmers mentioned RYMD as the most important rice disease. Most farmers used varietal shifts or pesticide treatments for RYMD management. RYMD incidence reached 28% in average at Banzon over the 2012-2013 main growing seasons. In rice varieties FKR56N, FKR62N and TS2, diseased plants yielded 79.3% less than the healthy ones. Accordingly, based on disease incidence, overall yield loss in the study area was estimated at 22.3%. Altogether, rice production can be significantly increased by taking RYMD into account in a participatory rice breeding strategy.展开更多

In order to solve the limitations of the existing pests and diseases insurance products in the aspects of fuzzy definition of insurance liability, different setting of claim points, and the design and operation of moral hazard and adverse selection, this paper puts forward a new idea of applying meteorological index insurance to the risk management of pests and diseases, which can be summarized as the following four parts: acquisition and collation of data, determination of the production reduction caused by the pests and diseases, the selection of meteorological factors of pests and disasters and the construction of index, and the setting of the pure rate of insurance. In the future,in the study of meteorological index insurance for crop pests and diseases,we should strengthen the cooperation among meteorology, plant conservation, insurance and agronomy, and other interdisciplinary fields, scientifically quantify the production reduction caused by pests and diseases, and pay attention to the information exchange among the government, the insurance company and the farmers.展开更多

Disease control indexes for one time control against S. sclerotlorum in mechanical direct seeding fields were stem disease rate as 11.8% and disease index as 7.6, respectively. The control indexes for twice control against the disease were stem disease rate as 16.8% and disease index as 11.7.
