Therefore, the performance of the MHD power generator is affected by many factors, among which the load coefficient k is of great importance. This paper reveals the effect of some system parameters on the performance by three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulation for a Faraday type MHD power generator using He/Xe as working plasma. The results show that average electrical conductivity increases first and then decreases with the addition of magnetic field intensity. Electrical conductivity reaches the maximum value of 11.05 S/m, while the applied magnetic field strength is B = 1.75 T. When B 〉 3 T, the ionization rate along the midline well keeps stable, which indicates that the ionization rate and three-body recombination rate (three kinds of particles combining to two kinds of particles) are approximately equal, and the relatively stable plasma structure of the mainstream is preserved. Efficiency of power generation of the Faraday type channel increases with an increment of the load factor. However, enthalpy extraction first increases to a certain value, and then decreases with the load factor. The enthalpy extraction rate reaches the maximum when the load coefficient k equals 0.625, which is the best performance of the power generator channel with the maximum electricity production.展开更多

The rotating disk is contained in a porous medium. Furthermore, a time-invariant version of the Maxwell-Cattaneo law is implemented in the energy equation. The flow problem is normalized by obtaining similarity variables. The resulting nonlinear system is solved numerically using the successive over-relaxation method. The main results are discussed through graphical representations and tables. It is perceived that the thermal relaxation time parameter decreases the temperature curves and increases the heat trans- fer rate. The oscillatory curves for the velocity field demonstrate a decreasing tendency with the increasing porosity parameter values. Two- and three-dimensional flow phenom- ena are also shown through graphical results.展开更多

The modified Darcy law is taken into account. The related velocity distribution and shear stress are expressed as a combination of steady-state and transient solutions computed by means of integral transformations. The effects of various parameters on the flow field are investigated. The MHD flow results in reduction of velocity distribution and associated thickness of the boundary layer.展开更多

The generalized form of the Navier-Stokes model is considered in hydromagnetic flow. Three-dimensional (3D) unsteady fluid motion is generated by the periodic oscillations of a rotating disk. Similarity transformations are used to obtain the normalized fluid flow model. The successive over relaxation (SOR) method with finite difference schemes are accomplished for the numerical solution of the obtained partial differential non-linear system. The flow features of the velocity, microrotation, temperature, and concentration fields are discussed in pictorial forms for various physical flow parameters. The couple stresses and heat and mass transfer rates for different physical quantities are explained via tabular forms. For better insight of the physical fluid model, 3D fluid phenomena and two-dimensional (2D) contours are also plotted. The results show that the micropolar fluids contain microstructure having non-symmetric stress tensor and are useful in lubrication theory. Moreover, the thermal and concentration waves in Cattaneo-Christov models have a significance role in the laser heating and enhancement in thermal conductivity.展开更多

A nanofluid comprises of nanoparticles of silver and copper. Water is used as a base fluid. Heat is being transferred with thermal radiation and the Joule heating. A system of ordinary differential equations is obtained by appropriate transformations. Convergent series solutions are obtained. Effects of various parameters are analyzed for the velocity and temperature. Numerical values of the skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number are tabulated and examined. It can be seen that the radial velocity is affected in the same manner with both porous and local inertial parameters. A skin friction coefficient depicts the same impact on both disks for both nanofluids with larger stretching parameters.展开更多

A magnetohydrodynamical model was proposed by Yuan et al. to study the formation of episodic jets in Sgr A*. By taking Sgr A* and a stellar mass black hole as examples, we modify the model of Yuan et al. by including the effects of relativity, and further study the relativistic motion and expansion of episodic jets of plasma blobs. Then we study the collision between two consecutive ejections in the modified model, and calculate the magnetic energy released in the collision. Our results show two consecutive blobs can collide with each other, and the released magnetic energy is more than 1050 erg, which supports the idea that a gamma-ray burst is powered by the collision of episodic jets, as suggested by Yuan & Zhang.展开更多

The analysis is performed in Cu-water and Ag-water nanofluids. Thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, and chemical reactions impacts are added in the nanofluid model. Appropriate transformations lead to the nondimensionalized boundary layer equations. It is revealed that the larger melting parameter enhances the velocity profile while the temperature profile decreases.
