Correlation knowledge extraction based on data mining for distribution network planning

Traditional distribution network planning relies on the professional knowledge of planners,especially when analyzing the correlations between the problems existing in the network and the crucial influencing factors.The inherent laws reflected by the historical data of the distribution network are ignored,which affects the objectivity of the planning scheme.In this study,to improve the efficiency and accuracy of distribution network planning,the characteristics of distribution network data were extracted using a data-mining technique,and correlation knowledge of existing problems in the network was obtained.A data-mining model based on correlation rules was established.The inputs of the model were the electrical characteristic indices screened using the gray correlation method.The Apriori algorithm was used to extract correlation knowledge from the operational data of the distribution network and obtain strong correlation rules.Degree of promotion and chi-square tests were used to verify the rationality of the strong correlation rules of the model output.In this study,the correlation relationship between heavy load or overload problems of distribution network feeders in different regions and related characteristic indices was determined,and the confidence of the correlation rules was obtained.These results can provide an effective basis for the formulation of a distribution network planning scheme. 展开更多

For facing the challenges brought by large-scale renewable energy having access to the system and considering the key technologies of energy Internet,it is very necessary to put forward the location method of distribution network equipment and capacity from the perspective of life cycle cost.Compared with the traditional energy network,the equipment capacity problem of energy interconnected distribution network which involves in electricity network,thermal energy network and natural gas network is comprehensively considered in this paper.On this basis,firstly,the operation architecture of energy interconnected distribution network is designed.Secondly,taking the grid connection location and configuration capacity of key equipment in the system as the control variables and the operation cost of system comprehensive planning in the whole life cycle as the goal,the equipment location and capacity optimization model of energy interconnected distribution network is established.Finally,an IEEE 33 bus energy mutual distribution grid system is taken for example analysis,and the improved chaotic particle swarmoptimization algorithm is used to solve it.The simulation results show that the method proposed in this paper is suitable for the equipment location and capacity planning of energy interconnected distribution network,and it can effectively improve the social and economic benefits of system operation. 展开更多

A two-phase multi-objective PSO algorithm is employed to solve this optimization problem, which can accelerate the convergence and guarantee the diversity of Pareto-optimal front set as well. A distributed blackboard decision-making framework for collaborative planning based on nested genetic algorithm (NGA) is proposed. By using blackboard-based communication paradigm and shared data structure, multiple decision-makers (DMs) can collaboratively solve the tasks-platforms allocation scheduling problems dynamically through the coordinator. This methodo- logy combined with NGA maximizes tasks execution accuracy, also minimizes the weighted total workload of the DM which is measured in terms of intra-DM and inter-DM coordination. The intra-DM employs an optimization-based scheduling algorithm to match the tasks-platforms assignment request with its own platforms. The inter-DM coordinates the exchange of collaborative request information and platforms among DMs using the blackboard architecture. The numerical result shows that the proposed black- board DM framework based on NGA can obtain a near-optimal solution for the tasks-platforms collaborative planning problem. The assignment of platforms-tasks and the patterns of coordination can achieve a nice trade-off between intra-DM and inter-DM coordination workload. 展开更多

Multiple earth observing satellites need to communicate with each other to observe plenty of targets on the Earth together. The factors, such as external interference, result in satellite information interaction delays, which is unable to ensure the integrity and timeliness of the information on decision making for satellites. And the optimization of the planning result is affected. Therefore, the effect of communication delay is considered during the multi-satel ite coordinating process. For this problem, firstly, a distributed cooperative optimization problem for multiple satellites in the delayed communication environment is formulized. Secondly, based on both the analysis of the temporal sequence of tasks in a single satellite and the dynamically decoupled characteristics of the multi-satellite system, the environment information of multi-satellite distributed cooperative optimization is constructed on the basis of the directed acyclic graph(DAG). Then, both a cooperative optimization decision making framework and a model are built according to the decentralized partial observable Markov decision process(DEC-POMDP). After that, a satellite coordinating strategy aimed at different conditions of communication delay is mainly analyzed, and a unified processing strategy on communication delay is designed. An approximate cooperative optimization algorithm based on simulated annealing is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness and robustness of the method presented in this paper are verified via the simulation. 展开更多

With an increasing integration of intermittent distributed energy resources(DERs),the consequent voltage excursion and thermal overloading issues limit the self-sufficiency of distribution networks(DNs).The concept of soft open point(SOP)has been proposed as a promising solution to improve the hosting capacity of DNs.In this paper,considering the ability of building thermal storage(BTS)to increase the penetration of renewable energy in DNs,we provide an optimal planning framework for SOP and DER.The optimal planning model is aimed at minimizing the investment and operational costs while respecting various constraints,including the self-sufficiency requirement of the DN,SOP,building thermal storage capacity and DER operations,etc.A steady-state SOP model is formulated and linearized to be incorporated into the planning framework.To make full use of the BTS flexibility provided by ubiquitous buildings,a differential equation model for building thermal dynamics is formulated.A hybrid stochastic/robust optimization approach is adopted to depict the uncertainties in renewable energy and market prices.IEEE 33-bus feeder and a realistic DN in the metropolitan area of Caracas are tested to validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework and method.Case studies show that SOP/BTS plays a complementary and coordinated coupling role in the thermo-electric system,thereby effectively improving the hosting capacity and self-sufficiency of DNs. 展开更多

The concept of DG clusters is introduced with highly penetrated integration of distributed generation(DG)into active distribution networks(ADNs).DG clusters are referred to as parts of an ADN,including DGs,distribution lines and loads.The formation of DG clusters helps to optimally dispatch DG outputs within ADNs.In this regard,an integrated planning strategy of ADNs and DGs in cluster(IPNDGC)is proposed.In order to guarantee that the planning strategy meets the reliability requirements,a reliability assessment is considered in the proposed model.However,reliability assessment is generally accomplished according to a fixed network topology and known DG allocation,which makes it difficult to integrate reliability into planning models.To deal with this difficulty,a novel formulation method for reliability assessment is proposed considering the network topology uncertainties and isolated operating probabilities of DG clusters.The reliability index(RI)represented by expected customer interruption cost(ECOST)is employed in the proposed planning model.The planning model is formulated as a mixed integer second order conic programming planning model.An actual distribution system is employed to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed planning model. 展开更多

Geological carbon dioxide (CO_(2)) utilization and storage have been widely recognized as one of the important options to deliver greenhouse gas emissions reduction. Reasonable planning is critical to promote CO_(2) utilization and storage. However, CO_(2) emissions gas collection exhibits a stochastic probability distribution, and CO_(2) utilization and storage features fluctuation demands, which have gone beyond current determine planning techniques. To fulfill the current research gap, this study develops an interval-parameter two-stage programming-based CO_(2) collection, distribution, transportation, utilization, and storage optimization model, integrating interval parameter planning and two-stage planning into a general framework. Therefore, the model can address uncertainties expressed as random probabilistic distributions and discrete intervals, tackle dynamic facilities capacity expansion issues, develop optimal predefined CO_(2) distribution policy, and generate recourse schemes to address gas shortage or gas surplus issues. The model is examined by a typical hypnotical case study in China. The results revealed that the model could generate a set of first-stage reasonable CO_(2) distribution and facilities capacity expansion schemes to maximum system benefits and the highest feasibility. Besides, a set of two-stage CO_(2) outsourcing purchases and facilities capacity expansion in reserve storage regions solutions were also generated to address the gas oversupplies and shortage issues. The modeling approach enriches the current CO_(2) utilization and storage distribution research content under multiple uncertainties. 展开更多

The health status of distribution equipment and networks is not considered directly in existing distribution network planning methods.In order to effectively consider the health status and deal with the risk associated with load and renewable generation uncertainties,this paper presents a new optimal expansion planning approach for distribution network(EPADN)incorporating equipment’s health index(HI)and non-network solutions(NNSs).HI and relevant risk are used to help develop the optimal equipment replacement strategy and temporary NNSs are considered as promising options for handling the uncertainties of load growth,reliability requirements of power supply and output of distributed energy resources(DERs)at a lower cost than network alternatives.An EPADN model using network solutions(NSs)and NNSs is proposed.The planning objectives of the proposed model are safety,reliability,economy,and‘greenness’that are also the meaning of distribution network HI.A method integrating an improved niche genetic algorithm(INGA)and a spanning tree algorithm(STA)is fitted to solve the model presented here for real sized networks with a manageable computational cost.Simulation results of an actual 22-node distribution network in China,illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

Distributed energy resources have been proven to be an effective and promising solution to enhance power system resilience and improve household-level reliability.In this paper,we propose a method to evaluate the reliability value of a photovoltaic(PV)energy system with a battery storage system(BSS)by considering the probability of grid outages causing household blackouts.Considering this reliability value,which is the economic profit and capital cost of PV+BSS,a simple formula is derived to calculate the optimal planning strategy.This strategy can provide household-level customers with a simple and straightforward expression for invested PV+BSS capacity.Case studies on 600 households located in eight zones of the US for the period of 2006 to 2015 demonstrate that adding the reliability value to economic profit allows households to invest in a larger PV+BSS and avoid loss of load caused by blackouts.Owing to the differences in blackout hours,households from the 8 zones express distinct willingness to install PV+BSS.The greater the probability of blackout,the greater revenue that household can get from the PV+BSS.The simulation example shows that the planning strategy obtained by proposed model has good economy in the actual operation and able to reduce the economic risk of power failure of the household users.This model can provide household with an easy and straightforward investment strategy of PV+BSS capacity. 展开更多

The approach to planning,design and operation of distribution networks have significantly changed due to the proliferation of distributed energy resources(DERs)together with load growth,energy storage technology advancements and increased consumer expectations.Planning of active distribution systems(ADS)has been a very hot topic in the 21st Century.A large number of studies have been done on ADS planning.This paper reviews the state of the art of current ADS planning.Firstly,the influences of DERs on the ADS planning are addressed.Secondly,the characteristics and objectives of ADS planning are summarized.Then,up to date planning model and some related research are highlighted in different areas such as forecasting load and distributed generation,mathematical model of ADS planning and solution algorithms.Finally,the paper explores some directions of future research on ADS planning including planning collaboratively with all elements combined in ADS,taking into account of joint planning in secondary system,coordinating goals among different layers,integrating detailed operation simulations and regular performance based reviews into planning,and developing advanced planning tools. 展开更多

With the increased integration of photovoltaic(PV)power generation into active distribution networks,the operational challenges and their complexities are increased.Such networks need detailed characterization PV systems under multiple operating conditions to understand true impacts.This paper presents a new mathematical model for a PV system to capture detailed effects of PV systems.The proposed model incorporates state transitions of components in a PV system and captures effects of insolation variations.The paper performs a reliability assessment incorporating PV systems at resource locations.The results suggest that the reliability performance of an active distribution network at stressed operating conditions might be influenced by the high penetration of PV system.Reliability performance of distribution networks that are high penetrated with PV systems can be affected by cloudy effects resulting from insolation variations.The proposed model can be used to quantify the level of reduction in reliability,resulting with cloudy effects. 展开更多

In recent years,the urban drainage system in China is facing the dual pressure of renovation and construction.This requires that the integrated assessment for the planning and operation of the urban drainage system is obligatory.To evaluate the urban drainage system,an integrated assessment methodology based on the analytic hierarchy process(AHP),integrated simulation,and fuzzy assessment is established.This method is a multi-criteria decision adding app roach to the assessment of the urban drainage system comprehensively.Through the integration of the Storm Water Management Model(SWMM),a simple wastewater treatment plant model,and a surface water quality model,an integrated modelling system for the urban drainage system is developed and applied as a key tool for assessment.Using the established method,a case study in Shenzhen City has been implemented to evaluate and compare two urban drainage system reno vation plans,the distributed plan and the centralized plan.Because of the particularity of this case study,the established method is not applied entirely.Considering the water environ mental impact,ecological impact,technological feasibility,and economic cost,the integrated performance of the distri buted plan is better.As shown in this case study,the proposed method is found to be both effective and practical. 展开更多

As load and renewable penetration continues to grow,optimal placement and sizing of substations is becoming increasingly important in distribution system planning.This paper presents an improved methodology to solve the substation siting and sizing problem based on geographic information and supervised learning.The proposed approach can optimize the locations,capacities,and power supply ranges of substations with minimum investment and annual operation costs.Capital cost of land adds complexity and difficulty to the substation placement problem,especially for highly developed urban areas.This paper presents a theoretical framework to determine the optimal location of substations considering the cost of land.The state-of-the-art parallel computing techniques are employed so that co-optimization for substations of multiple voltage levels can be directly conducted in a computational efficient way.Case studies are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多
