The movement of the Iron&Steelmaking(I&S)industry towards Net-Zero emissions and digitalized processes through disruptive, breakthrough technologies will be achieved through the use of Hydrogen. The biggest challenge for the refractory industry is to continue to meet the performance expectations while,at the same time, moving to a more sustainable production direction. The complexity and urgency of these technological changes, highlighted by the European Green Deal, requires ambitious, international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral projects, bringing together institutes from across the global value chain,to carry out cutting edge research. The European Union, through its flagship doctoral training program,MSCA,has, and continues to support research and development as well as the promotion of the refractory industry in Europe. An introduction to two MSCA projects and some of the results achieved are highlighted within this article. 展开更多

A total of 56 nursing doctoral theses were included in this review. The most often studied topic was cardiovascular rehabilitation care (n = 9, 16%). More recently, the most often studied topics has been health technology advancements in nursing care (n = 6, 10.7%). The common trend of study methods was to be quantitative in nature. Of the total, 35 out of 56 were quantitative studies. Half were experimental/ quasi-experimental research studies (n = 28, 50%). For theoretical foundations or applications, the majority (n = 21, 36%) of doctoral theses had no specific theoretical/conceptual models as study frameworks. This trend indicates that there is space for improving the theoretical and philosophical foundation of nursing research in Hong Kong. For the contributions of doctoral thesis research, Hong Kong nursing scholars place more emphasis on direct enhancement of clinical practice or the improvement of patient outcomes. This review provides concrete evidence of the status of nursing research and knowledge development in Hong Kong nursing. 展开更多

Since the reform and opening up, as China's economic and social development, China's education has also made rapid develop-ment. Thanks to the rapid growth of total economic output, the need for high-level manpower is increasing, which has provided an good opportunity for the rapid development of doctoral education in China. China's doctoral education started in 1978, when the first batch of 18 doctoral students were enrolled. In 1981, China began to implement a formal degree system, the second year, the first batch of six doc-toral students were granted Ph.D. degree. At present, China has more than 300 colleges and universities which have the right to authorize a doctorate, while the United States only has 253. So far China has cultivated more than 50,000 Ph.D. and become the largest country in the world in Ph.D. Cultivation. 展开更多

The provision of feedback on student work has been a common and even recommended practice across levels of education throughout the years. In the field of academic writing pedagogy, giving feedback has become a crucial part of the teaching/learning process given that composition skills are quite intricate and difficult to master, requiring a cycle of continual drafting, feedback and re-drafting until a final version is produced.Teacher feedback appears to be the most utilized in current classrooms, with peer feedback beginning to be applied in many disciplines as well in recent times.Nevertheless,it appears that most research studies on the uses and the benefits of teacher and peer feedback focus on undergraduate students with graduate students’voices less contemplated in this regard.Considering this potential research gap as well as the fact that doctoral students are often more skilled and competent writers, this study analyses these students’attitudes and views toward the need of teacher and peer feedback in a research writing in English course delivered in a Finnish university with a mix of international and local students. The results seem to indicate that both types of feedback, but specifically a combination of both, were well-accepted and highly-regarded by these students, particularly as far as reader-friendliness is concerned. 展开更多

The “door-to-doctor” time for patients to be seen by a physician is an increasingly studied metric.Hospitals may shorten this time by implementing a triage physician (TP).The exact role of a TP may vary across departments.TPs put in preliminary orders for lab work, imaging, and treatment, and decide treatment location for further evaluation. As the prevalence of TPs grows, its effect on resident education in academic emergency departments (EDs) remains unclear. We implemented a TP in the spring of 2016 and assessed resident physicians before and after implementation. 展开更多

This paper explored through a literature review, the domains of research in Architecture and the nature of doctoral research, with a view to contributing to the evolving research agenda in the Nigerian context. The research method involved a descriptive and thematic analysis of the titles and abstracts of completed doctoral theses in Architecture in Nigeria, in the last 26 years (1990-2015), complemented by semi-structured interviews with six key informants. The study revealed an emphasis on Housing-related topics (34%) relative to other research modules, such as' History and Theory' (20%) and 'Design and Production' (18%). It also reflected the limited coverage and scope of current research, relative to the global terrain, as evidenced in the article titles and contents of 45 Architecture-related Journals. The results of the interviews indicated the strong influence of supervisors' areas of interest in the choices of thesis titles. It highlighted reasons for the perceived focus on Housing, which reflect its unique place and multi-disciplinary nature. It concluded that extending the boundaries of architectural research at the doctoral level could be beneficial to the discipline and profession in Nigeria in order to align with global trends, while keeping cognizance of the local contexts. 展开更多

The study employs a narrative inquiry approach to probe a Chinese doctoral student’s identity construction experiences fraught with interruption and transformation. The longitudinal narratives gathered through participant entries in Evernote,a face-to-face life story interview, and researcher memos, have enabled a dynamic configuration of the intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual dimensions characterizing doctoral identity development.Using identity-trajectory as an analytical lens, the study highlights how individual agency is embodied and exercised in institutional, relational, and personal spaces where doctoral identity is formed and contested.Findings are episodically ordered as:beginning doctoral study with great expectations;conceptualizing the nature of becoming a doctoral student;forces that are disruptive to the development of the doctoral-researcher identity;the ongoing process of being mediated by socialization into an extended research community,socio-professional support, and agentic reflexivity over time. The study argues for using narrative inquiry to speak of and express the subtleties and continuities of doctoral students’experiences. It also provides practical implications for action by supervisors and students in doctoral programs respectively. 展开更多

While socialization has become a major lens of research in doctoral education, this paper advances the theoretical foundation of the socialization process in doctoral education by using the institutional logics theory.Specifically,it proposes an analytical framework for understanding the socialization of doctoral students, where it is seen as a process of reconciling different or even competing institutional logics that drive students’development in doctoral education. The framework has been applied in an empirical study of ten doctoral students in Finland who were funded by the China Scholarship Council(CSC).While proving the usefulness of the analytical framework, the study shows that CSC doctoral students mainly face the competing logics of profession and corporation during socialization.Influenced by a strong profession logic, the Chinese students have transformed themselves into novice professionals and knowledge producers.Corporation logic competed with profession logic in the management of doctoral students and has resulted in a lack of teaching experiences in doctoral training and a weak recognition of professional identity in the students’host universities. The influence of family logic, inherited from CSC doctoral students’cultural backgrounds, has been decoupled in the socialization process and has led to a strong sense of loss in handling the supervisory relationship between supervisors and students.Based on the findings of this study, the author provides several recommendations for host universities, supervisors, doctoral students, the CSC,and the Chinese Embassy in Finland to enable them to work together and help CSC doctoral students tackle the aforementioned challenges. 展开更多

Background: The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of the true importance of trust in clinical practice by looking at how it is formed, how it affects clinical practice, and how to improve it. Methods: Using the PRISMA-ScR checklist, a review of the literature was performed to identify research evaluating the importance of trust in the doctor-patient relationship. After thorough screening and removal of duplicates, 21 articles were used in the literature review. Results: The classifying themes that emerged in the selected articles were What Makes Trust and Effects of Trust. The theme of What Makes Trust garnered two subthemes as well: Impact of Doctor-Patient Relationship on Trust and Impact of Shared Decision-Making on Trust. Further to that, the overarching themes found were slightly more specific. They were Traits of Trust, Mistrust and Barriers to Trust, Positive Effects of Trust and the Effects of a Lack of Trust. We found that the best way to improve trust was to improve communication between the patient and the doctor. Additionally, we found that the biggest barrier to a trusting doctor patient relationship was a stigmatised condition, followed by a perception of a financially-motivated doctor. Finally, we found that a lack of trust can prevent patients from seeking and receiving proper treatment. Conclusions: With a better understanding of how trust is built and the extent of the role it plays in clinical practice, we hope that this growing knowledge can improve the practice of many doctors in the future. It is certain that more research needs to be done in this area, especially focusing on vulnerable and stigmatised populations such as chronic pain patients. 展开更多
