Taking the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of the Central Academy of Drama as an example,this article explores the construction and development of the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for the practical teaching of drama and film and television disciplines.The article first introduces the background and importance of the demonstration center and then analyzes in depth the construction content and achievements of the demonstration center from four aspects:practical teaching philosophy,practical teaching system,practical teaching resources,and practical teaching effects.Finally,the article summarizes the experience and shortcomings of the demonstration center and proposes future development directions and suggestions.

Analysis on the Way of Integrating Educational Drama into Patriotism Education for Primary School Students

In the process of patriotism education for primary school students,educational drama can play a very important role.However,the premise is that educational drama should be successfully integrated into the process of patriotism education of primary school students,instead of simply and mechanically stuffing educational drama into patriotism education of primary school students.As far as the integration mode of educational drama is concerned,educational drama can be divided into three kinds,namely,discipline-oriented drama education,infiltration-oriented drama education and activity-oriented drama.Therefore,the integration methods are also divided into three categories,namely,setting up educational drama courses,using educational drama to infiltrate patriotic education into other disciplines and carrying out activity-oriented drama education.

English Dramas and English Listening & Speaking Ability

With the development and popularization of the Internet, dramas from English-speaking countries, i.e., English dramas, are becoming more and more popular in China. It has become a fashion to contact and learn English and British & American culture through English dramas. This paper analyzes the possibility of learning English with English dramas as the medium and how to make use of English dramas to learn English scientifically and effectively;this paper also expounds the important role played by English dramas in helping students improve their English proficiency in an all-round way, especially in listening and speaking.

T. S. Eliot＇s Spiritual Journey in Designing The Cocktail Party as a Drama of Conversion

In his quest for spiritual fulfillment, Thomas Stearns Eliot conducts a meticulous religious study which teaches him distinctive interpretations of human existence and their various functions that they are supposed to assume in the world. Eliot＇s personal attachment to religious knowledge and his reflections of religious studies inevitably manifest themselves in his literary works; be it his dramas or poems, mostly in the forms of philosophical and psychoanalytical analysis of his characters and the detected problems observed in their relationships. The Cocktail Party, a play starting off as a drawing-room comedy soon converts to a serious analysis of human psychology and the nature of human interactions. While engaging with these particular points, the play offers possibilities to discuss several religious allusions, though dealt with subtly. Integrated with religion, characters＇ attitudes towards a given situation and their final decision position them in their quest either in ＂hypothetical＂ enlightenment or in a ＂supposed＂ repetition of a vicious circle. The enforcing power behind the play is interestingly a psychiatrist, who adds dynamism and mystery to the plot and has a special task in making the play a drama of conversion. The inner conflicts of the characters which ultimately lead to a series of problems in their relationships are the main concern which causes the characters search for different solutions. Accordingly, they make their own choices to cease their inner struggles. This paper aims to explore the concept of conversion in Eliot＇s The Cocktail Party with references to the playwright＇s religious journey in his literary career.

Drama to Enhance the Speaking Skills of EFL/ESL Learners

The paper starts with introducing the definition of drama. Then, many drama techniques are introduced. Next, Advantages of using drama techniques are discussed. Nonetheless, some problems in using drama in ESL/EFL are pointed out. The paper concludes that drama offers a useful educational tool to support communicative language teaching for EFL/ESL learners.

Performance-oriented Drama Translation from Skopos Theory: A Case in my Chinese Translation of Translations

Based on the guidelines set by Ningbo Theatre who asked me to translate translations and features of performance-oriented drama, this commentary will deal with how I translate characters and cultural specific items from prospective of skopos theory and explain the reason why I translate it this way.I am required to present vivid characters and bridge the cultural gap while translating. During the process of translation, I try to use specific words or local dialect to differ one person from another. Sometimes, I make one person's language less colloquial which is consistent with his own personality. When encountering some cultural barriers that would make audience confused, I adopt domestication to translate the dialogue. I will add some explanatory words to make audience get to know it and free translation to avoid cultural confusion. In this commentary, six examples are given to show my strategies of translating this book.

This paper is to analyze the authentic and vivid characterization in Browning＇s poem ＂My Last Duchess＂, which resembles dramatic representation on stage, and thus to reveal the unspoken authorial intention and the societal reality of the Victorian Age. The exquisite sketch of characters in the poem reestablishes Robert Browning as a master of poetry for his application of dramatic monologue and repays every credit he deserves.

Culture Construction in Drama Translation: A Case Study of the Translation of Tea House

Theory of Creative Treason and Drama Translation

Due to the specific characteristic which is related to stage performance, the academic researches of drama translation have so far been limited. Before the mid 1970 s, discussions about drama translation were mainly limited to the study of the translated text of drama by applying the prescribed method of comparative analysis in order to explore the equivalence between the translation and the original. While after the mid 1970 s, researches on drama translation started to be done by applying the descriptive method. Some translation theorists and scholars began to study the translated text of drama on the background of target language culture, which had made fruitful achievements. Recently, studies on drama translation mostly paid attention to such issues as the nature of drama translation, the purpose of drama translation, the characteristics of the translated text of drama, performability and orality in drama translation, transformation of dramatic culture and the status of drama translators, etc. By applying Xie Tianzhen's theory of creative treason, this drama translation can be studied from a new perspective.

How Symbol Matters-Translation of Zhuang Drama

Zhuang drama,as the treasure of Zhuang's ethnic culture,is of great art value and cultural value,and therefore should contribute to the national strategy of making national culture‘going global'.In such kind of process,the English translation of Zhuang drama becomes increasingly essential.As a process of transmitting information,thoughts and even culture,the value of translation is self-evident.But in the process of translation,a translator always risks inadvertently introducing source-language words,grammar,or syntax into the target-language rendering.This leads to the laboriousness of the translation process,but however the style changes,the principle of translation:veracity,never changes.There for making a clear understanding of the value of each symbols in the text will be especially crucial.By taking the whole text as a language system and each of its words as a language symbol,the process of translation will be more systematic,providing the translator a clear framework and orientation when searching for the absolute meaning of the source-language text.

Merging Drama with Medical Education: Simulation in Learning Breaking Bad News Pre- and Post-Study

Objective: Using simulation in medical education was introduced in the 17th century, applying different techniques. The introduction of using simulated patients (SP) was also of great importance in both learning and evaluation processes. Aims: This current study aims at assessing medical students’ perception about the use of well-trained drama students from the school of Arts in simulated session of breaking bad news encounter. Study Design: This is a per- and post-test study. Methods: 112 students were asked to fill a pre-validated questionnaire, who trained from January 2017 till the end of July 2017 pre- and post-exposure to simulated clinical encounter, where one well trained senior drama student played the role of patient, one student played the doctor who would break the bad news (BBN), debriefing before the encounter, and discussion after took place. Another validated questionnaire was distributed after the encounter, to assess the students’ experience. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 20. Results: Scores of all questions showed statistically significant improvement after the simulation session (p-value Conclusion: Simulation encounter, using drama students who are well-trained in human grief reaction, making BBN learning more positive and effective, merging two faculties improved the learning experience of both medical and Drama students.

Design Concept of Drama Stage-style Architecture

The Power of Theater Expression and Communication:A Psychological Theraputical Intervention in a Refugee Camp:An IPA Study Into the Narratives of Women Refugees’Experience With Drama Therapy

Forced displacement poses a major global crisis that must be tackled at all levels:political,socio-economic,and psychological.This paper describes the psychological impact of forced displacement on women and explains the significance of drama therapy intervention(DTI)in treating and empowering trauma impacted refugee women.Frequently used to treat immigrant and refugee adolescents and children in many host communities,DTI is seldom applied to women refugees who suffer from psychological disorders compounded by fleeing their home country and by difficulties faced in host communities.This makes our study the first on women refugees leaving a zone of war and residing in dire conditions in refugee camps.To best analyze the impact of DTI,this study(1)utilizes a qualitative approach to explain the effects of drama therapy intervention on Syrian and Palestinian-Syrian refugee women in Lebanon;(2)It applies a modified five-phase DTI program to fit the experiment setting and conducts post-DTI interviews;(3)It uses interpretative phenomenological analysis(IPA)method to identify emergent themes and to analyze the effectiveness of DTI;(4)Finally,the study concludes that drama therapy can both help refugee women deal with war-related/post-migration emotional trauma and can implement positive changes and help its participants form social bonds among each other.
