Through theoretical analysis,we construct a physical model that includes the influence of counter-external driven current opposite to the plasma current direction in the neoclassical tearing mode(NTM).The equation is used with this model to obtain the modified Rutherford equation with co-current and counter-current contributions.Consistent with the reported experimental results, numerical simulations have shown that the localized counter external current can only partially suppress NTM when it is far from the resonant magnetic surface.Under some circumstances, the Ohkawa mechanism dominated current drive(OKCD)by electron cyclotron waves can concurrently create both co-current and counter-current.In this instance, the minimal electron cyclotron wave power that suppresses a particular NTM was calculated by the Rutherford equation. The result is marginally less than when taking co-current alone into consideration. As a result,to suppress NTM using OKCD,one only needs to align the co-current with a greater OKCD peak well with the resonant magnetic surface. The effect of its lower counter-current does not need to be considered because the location of the counter-current deviates greatly from the resonant magnetic surface. 展开更多

The three-dimensional (3D) processing maps considering strain based on the two-dimensional (2D) processing maps proposed by PRASAD can describe the distribution of the efficiency of power dissipation and flow instability regions at various temperatures, strain rates and strains, which exhibit intrinsic workability related to material itself. Finite element (FE) simulation can obtain the distribution of strain, strain rate, temperature and die filling status, which indicates state-of-stress (SOS) workability decided by die shape and different processing conditions. On the basis of this, a new material driven analysis method for hot deformation was put forward by the combination of FE simulation with 3D processing maps, which can demonstrate material workability of the entire hot deformation process including SOS workability and intrinsic workability. The hot forging process for hard-to-work metal magnesium alloy was studied, and the 3D thermomechanical FE simulation including 3D processing maps of complex hot forging spur bevel gear was first conducted. The hot forging experiments were carried out. The results show that the new method is reasonable and suitable to determine the aoorooriate nrocess narameters. 展开更多

Non-thermal plasma at atmosphere was generated through glidarc discharge driven by magnetic field and observed by using a high speed charge coupled device (CCD) and photo multiplier tube (PMT). The arc diameter projecting in the direction of arc motion (front-viewed diameter) and the diameter projecting in the perpendicular direction of arc motion (side-viewed diameter) were measured. The effect of both the arc current and the magnetic field was analysed. The front-viewed diameter was compared with the side-viewed one. Simultaneously the electricfield intensity was measured directly and analysed by considering the effect of the external magnetic field and arc current. 展开更多

When two identical QED cavities driven by the coherent fields are located in a uniform environment, in addition to dissipation, there appears an indirect coupling between the two cavities induced by the background fields. We investigate the effects of the coherent fields, the dissipation as well as the incoherent coupling on the following dynamical properties of the system: photon transfer, reversible decoherence, and quantum state transfer, etc. We find that the photons in the cavities do not leak completely into the environment due to the collective coupling between the cavities and the enviroment, and the photons are transferred irreversibly from the cavity with more photons to the cavity with less ones due to the incoherent coupling so that they are equally distributed among the two cavities. The coherent field pumping on the two cavities increases the mean photons, complements the revived magnitude of the reversible decoherence, but hinders the quantum state transfer between the two cavities. The above phenomena may find applications in quantum communication and other basic fields. 展开更多

The methane concentration of the return current will always be enhanced to a certain degree when hydraulic fracturing with bedding drilling is implemented to a gassy coal seam in an underground coal mine. The methane in coal seam is driven out by hydraulic fracturing. Thus, the phenomenon is named as methane driven effect of hydraulic fracturing. After deep-hole hydraulic fracturing at the tunneling face of the gassy coal seam, the coal methane content exhibits a ‘‘low-high-low" distribution along excavation direction in the following advancing process, verifying the existence of methane driven caused by hydraulic fracturing in methane-bearing coal seam. Hydraulic fracturing causes the change of pore-water and methane pressure in surrounding coal. The uneven distribution of the pore pressure forms a pore pressure gradient. The free methane migrates from the position of high pore(methane) pressure to the position of low pore(methane) pressure. The methane pressure gradient is the fundamental driving force for methane-driven coal seam hydraulic fracturing. The uneven hydraulic crack propagation and the effect of time(as some processes need time to complete and are not completed instantaneously) will result in uneven methane driven. Therefore, an even hydraulic fracturing technique should be used to avoid the negative effects of methane driven; on the other hand, by taking fully advantage of methane driven, two technologies are presented. 展开更多

Numerical simulation using the finite differential method was carried out to analyze the diffusion of an impulse sample in the micro-channel driven by electroosmosis. The results show that the electrical field strength applied externally and the concentration of buffer solution play a significant role in the diffusion of sample, however, hydraulic diameter and aspect ratio of height to width of channel play a small role in it. Weakening the electrical field strength applied externally and the concentration of buffer solution properly can prevent the sample band from broadening effectively, and promote the efficiency of testing and separation as well as keep a faster speed of transport. The conclusions are helpful to the optimal design for micro-channel. 展开更多

We theoretically investigate the characteristics of terahertz(THz) radiation from monolayer graphene exposed to normal incident few-cycle laser pulses, by numerically solving the extended semiconductor Bloch equations. Our simulations show that the THz spectra in low frequency regions are highly dependent on the carrier envelope phase(CEP) of driving laser pulses. Using an optimal CEP of few-cycle laser pulses, we can obtain broadband strong THz waves, due to the symmetry breaking of the laser-graphene system. Our results also show that the strength of the THz spectra depend on both the intensity and central wavelength of the laser pulses. The intensity dependence of the THz wave can be described by the excitation rate of graphene, while wavelength dependence can be traced back to the band velocity and the population of graphene. We find that a near single-cycle THz pulse can be obtained from graphene driven by a mid-infrared laser pulse. 展开更多

The model of electrically driven jet is governed by a series of quasi 1D dimensionless partial differential equations(PDEs).Following the method of lines, the Chebyshev collocation method is employed to discretize the PDEs and obtain a system of differential-algebraic equations(DAEs).By differentiating constrains in DAEs twice, the system is transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations(ODEs) with invariants. Then the implicit differential equations solver 'ddaskr' is used to solve the ODEs and post-stabilization is executed at the end of each step. Results show the distributions of radius, linear charge density, stretching ratio and also the horizontal velocity at a time point.Meanwhile, the spiral and expanding projections to X-Y plane of the jet centerline suggest the occurring of bending instability. 展开更多

Multiple steady solutions and hysteresis phenomenon in the square cavity flows driven by the surface with antisymmetric velocity profile are investigated by numerical simulation and bifurcation analysis.A high order spectral element method with the matrix-free pseudo-arclength technique is used for the steady-state solution and numerical continuation. The complex flow patterns beyond the symmetry-breaking at Re≈320 are presented by a bifurcation diagram for Re<2500.The results of stable symmetric and asymmetric solutions are consistent with those reported in literature, and a new unstable asymmetric branch is obtained besides the stable branches.A novel hysteresis phenomenon is observed in the range of 2208<Re<2262,where two pairs of stable and two pairs of unstable asymmetric steady solutions beyond the stable symmetric state coexist. The vortices near the sidewall appear when the Reynolds number increases, which correspond to the bifurcation of topology structure, but not the bifurcation of Navier-Stokes equations. The hysteresis is proposed to be the result of the combined mechanisms of the competition and coalescence of secondary vortices. 展开更多

In this paper,a data-driven method to model the three-dimensional engineering structure under the cyclic load with the one-dimensional stress-strain data is proposed. In this method,one-dimensional stress-strain data obtained under uniaxial load and different loading history is learned offline by gate recurrent unit(GRU)network. The learned constitutive model is embedded into the general finite element framework through data expansion from one dimension to three dimensions, which can perform stress updates under the three-dimensional setting. The proposed method is then adopted to drive numerical solutions of boundary value problems for engineering structures.Compared with direct numerical simulations using the J2 plasticity model, the stress-strain response of beam structure with elastoplastic materials under forward loading, reverse loading and cyclic loading were predicted accurately.Loading path dependent response of structure was captured and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified. The shortcomings of the proposed method are also discussed. 展开更多

We investigate the cooperative behavior and the phase separation in a coevolving system. Agents in the system constructed by a regular random network initially play the snowdrift game with their neighbors. They try to obtain a better competing environment by imitating a neighbor's more successful strategy or cutting the connection to a defective neighbor and randomly rewiring to another agent so as to seek a better neighborhood. The dynamic process of strategy imitation and relationship among agents due to rewiring neighbors may drive the system into different states. The simulation results show that there are three different phases in the q-r plane, where q is the rewiring probability and r is the cost-to-benefit ratio. One is a static phase of a pure cooperative cluster with a few isolated defectors. The other two belong to active phases with one of a main mixed-strategy cluster and the other of a pure defective state. We find that a simple mean field theory can predict correctly the static phase and the active phase of the main mixed-strategy cluster. The theoretical boundary line between the two phases is in good agreement with the simulation result. 展开更多

Brain tissue is one of the softest parts of the human body, composed of white matter and grey matter. The mechanical behavior of the brain tissue plays an essential role in regulating brain morphology and brain function.Besides, traumatic brain injury(TBI)and various brain diseases are also greatly influenced by the brain's mechanical properties.Whether white matter or grey matter, brain tissue contains multiscale structures composed of neurons, glial cells, fibers, blood vessels, etc.,each with different mechanical properties. As such, brain tissue exhibits complex mechanical behavior, usually with strong nonlinearity, heterogeneity, and directional dependence.Building a constitutive law for multiscale brain tissue using traditional function-based approaches can be very challenging.Instead, this paper proposes a data-driven approach to establish the desired mechanical model of brain tissue. We focus on blood vessels with internal pressure embedded in a white or grey matter matrix material to demonstrate our approach. The matrix is described by an isotropic or anisotropic nonlinear elastic model.A representative unit cell(RUC)with blood vessels is built, which is used to generate the stress-strain data under different internal blood pressure and various proportional displacement loading paths. The generated stress-strain data is then used to train a mechanical law using artificial neural networks to predict the macroscopic mechanical response of brain tissue under different internal pressures. Finally, the trained material model is implemented into finite element software to predict the mechanical behavior of a whole brain under intracranial pressure and distributed body forces.Compared with a direct numerical simulation that employs a reference material model, our proposed approach greatly reduces the computational cost and improves modeling efficiency. The predictions made by our trained model demonstrate sufficient accuracy.Specifically,we find that the level of internal blood pressure can greatly influence stress distribution and determine the possible related damage behaviors. 展开更多

Artificial intelligence technology is introduced into the simulation of muzzle flow field to improve its simulation efficiency in this paper.A data-physical fusion driven framework is proposed.First, the known flow field data is used to initialize the model parameters,so that the parameters to be trained are close to the optimal value. Then physical prior knowledge is introduced into the training process so that the prediction results not only meet the known flow field information but also meet the physical conservation laws.Through two examples,it is proved that the model under the fusion driven framework can solve the strongly nonlinear flow field problems, and has stronger generalization and expansion. The proposed model is used to solve a muzzle flow field, and the safety clearance behind the barrel side is divided. It is pointed out that the shape of the safety clearance under different launch speeds is roughly the same, and the pressure disturbance in the area within 9.2 m behind the muzzle section exceeds the safety threshold, which is a dangerous area.Comparison with the CFD results shows that the calculation efficiency of the proposed model is greatly improved under the condition of the same calculation accuracy. The proposed model can quickly and accurately simulate the muzzle flow field under various launch conditions. 展开更多

Laser driven flyer plate technology offers improved safety and reliability for detonation of explosives in industrial applications ranging from mining and stone quarrying to the aerospace and defense industries. This study is based on developing a safer laser driven flyer plate prototype comprised of a laser initiator and a flyer plate subsystem that can be used with secondary explosives.System parameters were optimized to initiate the shock-to-detonation transition(SDT)of a secondary explosive based on the impact created by the flyer plate on the explosive surface.Rupture of the flyer was investigated at the mechanically weakened region located on the interface of these subsystems, where the product gases from the deflagration of the explosive provide the required energy.A bilayer energetic material was used, where the first layer consisted of a pyrotechnic component, zirconium potassium perchlorate(ZPP),for sustaining the ignition by the laser beam and the second layer consisted of an insensitive explosive,cyclotetramethylene-tetranitramine(HMX),for deflagration.A plexiglass interface was used to enfold the energetic material. The focal length of the laser beam from the diode was optimized to provide a homogeneous beam profile with maximum power at the surface of the ZPP.Closed bomb experiments were conducted in an internal volume of 10 cm^(3) for evaluation of performance.Dependency of the laser driven flyer plate system output on confinement, explosive density, and laser beam power were analyzed.Measurements using a high-speed camera resulted in a flyer velocity of 670±20 m/s that renders the prototype suitable as a laser detonator in applications, where controlled employment of explosives is critical. 展开更多
