Radionuclide Imaging of Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage in Children

mTc-pertechnetateabdominalscintigraphywasperformedon17chil-drenwithgastrointestinalbleding.Theresultshowedthatof9surgicalyconfirmedcasesofMeckel′sdiverticulum,8hadpositiveimaging,1falsenegative;andthatonecaseofduplicationcystsalsohadpositivefinding.Theother7patientswithcolonpolyps,hemorrhagicenteritisorCrohn′sdiseasehadnegativeresults.Thesensitivity,specificityandaccuracyofdetectingectopicgastricmucosawere90.0%,100.0%and94.1%respectively.Ourstudyindicatesthatradionuclideimaging(RNI)isaneffi-cient,safeandacuratemethodindetectinggastrointestinalhemorhageinchildren.
