TDGs are observed to have higher metallicities than normal dwarfs. J2306 has an unusual combination of a blue g-r color of 0.23 mag, irregular optical morphology and high-metallicity(12 +log(O/H) = 8.68 ± 0.14), making it an interesting galaxy to study in more detail. We find J2306 to be an H I rich galaxy with a large extended, unperturbed rotating H I disk. Using our H I data we estimated its dynamical mass and found the galaxy to be dark matter(DM) dominated within its H I radius. The quantity of DM, inferred from its dynamical mass, appears to rule out J2306 as an evolved TDG. A wide area environment search reveals J2306 to be isolated from any larger galaxies which could have been the source of its high gas metallicity. Additionally, the H I morphology and kinematics of the galaxy show no indication of a recent merger to explain the high-metallicity.Further detailed optical spectroscopic observations of J2306 might provide an answer to how a seemingly ordinary irregular dwarf galaxy achieved such a high level of metal enrichment.展开更多

Let vhms(a)=vhms(1)/a be the root-mean-square velocity of non-relativistic warm dark matter particles in the early universe at expansion parameter a. vhms(1) is an adiabatic invariant. We obtain vhms(1) in the core of 11 dwarf galaxies dominated by dark matter, from their observed rotation curves, up to a rotation and relaxation correction. We obtain a mean 0.490 km/s and standard deviation 0.160 km/s, with a distribution peaked at the lower end. We apply a mild, data driven, rotation and relaxation correction that obtains the adiabatic invariant in the core of the galaxies: vhms(1)=0.406 ±0.069 km/s. These two small relative standard deviations justify the prediction that the adiabatic invariant vhms(1) in the core of the galaxies is of cosmological origin if dark matter is warm. This result is in agreement with measurements of vhms(1) based on spiral galaxy rotation curves, galaxy ultra-violet luminosity distributions, galaxy stellar mass distributions, the formation of first galaxies, reionization, and the velocity dispersion cut-off mass.展开更多

We have per- formed simulations of UV studies of old open clusters for the UVIT. The colour mag- nitude diagrams (CMDs) and spatial appearances have been created using 10 filters associated with the FUV channel (130-180 nm) and NUV channel (200-300 nm) that are available for observations on the UVIT, for the three old open clusters M67, NGC 188 and NGC 6791. The CMDs are simulated for different filter combinations, and they are used to identify the loci of various evolutionary sequences, white dwarfs, blue stragglers, red giants, subgiants, turn off stars and the main sequence of the clus- ters. The present work helps in identifying a potential area of study in the case of these three old open clusters by considering the availability of filters and the detection limits of the instrument. We also recommend filter combinations, which can be used to detect and study the above mentioned evolutionary stages. The simulations and the results presented here are essential for the optimal use of the UVIT for studies of old open clusters.展开更多

Explanations with standard physics remain controversial. Recently, I proposed a new explanation of the galactic flat rotation curves, introducing a new cosmic acceleration due to expansion. In this paper, I apply this new acceleration to the dynamics of DSG’s (without dark matter). I show that this new acceleration implies planar structures for the DSG trajectories. More generally, it is shown that this acceleration produces a space structuration around any massive center. It remains a candidate to explain several cosmic observations without dark matter.展开更多

These dSphs are ideal candidates for probing for gamma-ray emissions from dark matter(DM) annihilation. However, no significant signature has been found by the Fermi-LAT dSph observations. In this work, we reanalyze the Fermi-LAT Pass 8 data from the direction of Reticulum II, where a slight excess has been reported by some previous studies. We treat Reticulum II(DES J0335.6-5403) as a spatially extended source, and find that no significant gamma-ray signature is observed. Based on this result, we set upper-limits on the DM annihilation cross section.展开更多

文摘Green Pea galaxies are compact galaxies with high star formation rates. However, limited samples of Green Pea galaxies have H I 21 cm measurements.Whether the H I gas fraction(fH I≡MH I/M_(★))of Green Pea galaxies follows the existing scaling relations between the fH Iand NUV-r color or linear combinations of color and other physical quantities needs checking.Using archival data of H I 21 cm observations,we investigate the scaling relation of the NUV-r color with the MH I/M_(★)of 38 Green Pea galaxies, including 17 detections and 21 nondetections. The H I to stellar mass ratios(fH I)of Green Pea galaxies deviate from the polynomial form, where a higher H I gas fraction is predicted given the current NUV-r color, even with the emission lines removed. The blue sources(NUV-r<1)from the comparison sample(ALFALFA-SDSS)follow a similar trend. The H I gas fraction scaling relations with linear combination forms of-0.34(N UV-r)-0.64 log(μ_(★,z))+5.9 and-0.77 log_(μ_(★)),i+0.26logS FRM_(★)+8.53,better predict the H I gas fraction of the Green Pea galaxies. In order to obtain accurate linear combined forms,higher-resolution photometry from space-based telescopes is needed.

文摘How low surface brightness galaxies(LSBGs)form stars and assemble stellar mass is one of the most important questions related to understanding the LSBG population. We select a sample of 381 HI bright LSBGs with both far ultraviolet(FUV)and near infrared(NIR)observations to investigate the star formation rate(SFR)and stellar mass scales, and the growth mode.We measure the FUV and NIR radii of our sample, which represent the star-forming and stellar mass distribution scales respectively. We also compare the FUV and H band radius-stellar mass relation with archival data,to identify the SFR and stellar mass structure difference between the LSBG population and other galaxies.Since galaxy HI mass has a tight correlation with the HI radius,we can also compare the HI and FUV radii to understand the distribution of HI gas and star formation activities. Our results show that most of the HI selected LSBGs have extended star formation structure. The stellar mass distribution of LSBGs may have a similar structure to disk galaxies at the same stellar mass bins, but the star-forming activity of LSBGs happens at a larger radius than the high surface density galaxies, which may help to identify the LSBG sample from the wide-field deep u band image survey. The HI is also distributed at larger radii, implying a steeper(or not)Kennicutt-Schmidt relation for LSBGs.

文摘The motion of baryonic components of the Milky Way is governed by both luminous and dark matter content of the Galaxy. Thus, the dynamics of Milky Way globular clusters(GCs)can be used as tracers to infer the mass model of the Galaxy up to a large radius. In this work,we apply the directly observable line-of-sight velocities to test if the dynamics of the GC population are consistent with an assumed axisymmetric gravitational potential of the Milky Way.For this,we numerically compute the phase space distribution of the GC population where the orbits are either oriented randomly or co-/counter-rotating with respect to the stellar disk. Then we compare the observed position and line-of-sight velocity distribution of^150 GCs with those of the models. We found that, for the adopted mass model, the co-rotating scenario is the favored model based on various statistical tests. We do the analysis with and without the GCs associated with the progenitors of early merger events. This analysis can be extended in the near future to include precise and copious data to better constrain the Galactic potential up to a large radius.
文摘The Ultra Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) is one of the payloads on the first Indian multiwavelength satellite ASTROSAT, which is expected to be launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the year 2015. The simulations and the results presented here are essential for the optimal use of the UVIT for studies of old open clusters.
文摘Recent observations of Dwarf Satellite Galaxies (DSG) show that they have a clear tendency to stay in particular planes. It remains a candidate to explain several cosmic observations without dark matter.

文摘As a next-generation complex extensive air shower array with a large field of view, the large high altitude air shower observatory(LHAASO)is very sensitive to the very-high-energy gamma rays from^300 GeV to 1 PeV and may thus serve as an important probe for the heavy dark matter(DM)particles. In this study,we make a forecast for the LHAASO sensitivities to the gamma-ray signatures resulting from DM decay in dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies(dSphs)within the LHAASO field of view. Both individual and combined limits for 19 dSphs incorporating the uncertainties of the DM density profile are explored.Owing to the large effective area and strong capability of the photon-proton discrimination,we find that LHASSSO is sensitive to the signatures from decaying DM particles above O(1)TeV.The LHAASO sensitivity to the DM decay lifetime reaches O(1026)∼O(1028)s for several decay channels at the DM mass scale from 1 TeV to 100 TeV.

文摘The scaling relation of central massive black holes(M_(BH)s)and their host galaxies is well-studied for supermassive BHs(SM_(BH)s,M_(BH)≥10^(6)M_(⊙)).However,this relation has large uncertainties in the mass range of the intermediate-mass BHs(IM_(BH)s,M_(BH)~10^(3)-10^(6)M_(⊙)).Since Green pea(GP)galaxies are luminous compact dwarf galaxies, which may be likely to host less massive SM_(BH)s or even IM_(BH)s,we systematically search for M_(BH)s in a large sample of 2190 GP galaxies at z<0.4,selected from LAMOST and SDSS spectroscopic surveys. Here,we report a newly discovered sample of 59 M_(BH) candidates with broad Hαlines. This sample has a median stellar mass of 108.83±0.11M_(⊙)and hosts M_(BH)s with single-epoch virial masses ranging from M_(BH)~10^(4.7)to 10^(8.5)M_(⊙)(median 105.85±0.64M_(⊙)).Among the 59 M_(BH) candidates,36 have black hole masses M_(BH)≤10^(6)M_(⊙)(IM_(BH) candidates),one of which even has M_(BH)■10^(5)M_(⊙).We find that the M_(BH)-M_(*)relation of our M_(BH) sample is consistent with the M_(BH)-M_(bulge)relation for SM_(BH)s,while is above the M_(BH)-M_(*)relation for M_(BH)s in dwarf galaxies in the same mass range.Furthermore,we show that 25 M_(BH) candidates, including 4 IM_(BH) candidates, have additional evidence of black hole activities, assessed through various methods such as the broad-line width,BPT diagram,mid-infrared color,X-ray luminosity, and radio emission. Our studies show that it is very promising to find IM_(BH)s in GP galaxies, and the BH sample so obtained enables us to probe the connection between the M_(BH)s and compact dwarf galaxies in the low-redshift Universe.

文摘The recently discovered satellite dwarf galaxy Ursa Major III provides a promising opportunity to explore the signatures resulting from dark matter(DM)annihilation owing to its proximity and large J-factor.Given the absence of an excess ofγ-ray signatures originating from Ursa Major III,observations ofγ-rays,such as those from Fermi-LAT,can be utilized to set constraints on the DM annihilation cross-section.In this study,we determined the DM density profile and considered the relationship between DM density and velocity dispersion at different locations within Ursa Major III through Jeans analysis. We calculated the J-factor of Ursa Major III for s-wave annihilation along with the effective J-factors for p-wave and Sommerfeld enhanced annihilation scenarios.Employing these derived J-factors,we set stringent constraints on DM annihilation cross-sections in three scenarios.Given the substantial impact of member star identification on the J-factor of Ursa Major III,we further calculated J-factors under the exclusion of the largest velocity outlier. Our analysis reveals a notable reduction in the median value and an increase in the deviation of J-factors,thereby leading to considerably weaker constraints.

文摘Recently, many new dwarf spheroidal satellites(dSphs) have been discovered by the Dark Energy Survey(DES). Based on this result, we set upper-limits on the DM annihilation cross section.
