A bone cell population dynamics model for cor- tical bone remodeling under mechanical stimulus is devel- oped in this paper. The external experiments extracted from the literature which have not been used in the creation of the model are used to test the validity of the model. Not only can the model compare reasonably well with these ex- perimental results such as the increase percentage of final values of bone mineral content (BMC) and bone fracture en- ergy (BFE) among different loading schemes (which proves the validity of the model), but also predict the realtime devel- opment pattern of BMC and BFE, as well as the dynamics of osteoblasts (OBA), osteoclasts (OCA), nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) for each loading scheme, which can hardly be monitored through experiment. In conclusion, the model is the first of its kind that is able to provide an in- sight into the quantitative mechanism of bone remodeling at cellular level by which bone cells are activated by mechan- ical stimulus in order to start resorption/formation of bone mass. More importantly, this model has laid a solid foun- dation based on which future work such as systemic control theory analysis of bone remodeling under mechanical stimu- lus can be investigated. The to-be identified control mecha- nism will help to develop effective drugs and combined non- pharmacological therapies to combat bone loss pathologies. Also this deeper understanding of how mechanical forces quantitatively interact with skeletal tissue is essential for the generation of bone tissue for tissue replacement purposes in tissue engineering. 展开更多

Incubation time fracture criterion is reviewed; practical questions of its numerical implementation are extensively discussed. Several examples of how the incubation time fracture criterion can be used as fracture condition in finite element computations are given. The examples include simulations of dynamic crack propagation and arrest, impact crater formation (i.e. fracture in initially intact media), spall fracture in plates, propagation of cracks in pipelines. Applicability of the approach to model initiation, development and arrest of dynamic fracture is claimed. 展开更多

Reversible control of surface wettability has wide applications in lab-on-chip systems, tunable optical lenses, and microfluidic tools. Using a graphene sheet as a sam- ple material and molecular dynamic simulations, we demon- strate that strain engineering can serve as an effective way to control the surface wettability. The contact angles 0 of water droplets on a graphene vary from 72.5° to 106° under biaxial strains ranging from -10% to 10% that are applied on the graphene layer. For an intrinsic hydrophilic surface (at zero strain), the variation of 0 upon the applied strains is more sensitive, i.e., from 0° to 74.8°. Overall the cosines of the contact angles exhibit a linear relation with respect to the strains. In light of the inherent dependence of the contact an- gle on liquid-solid interfacial energy, we develop an analytic model to show the cos 0 as a linear function of the adsorption energy Eads of a single water molecule over the substrate sur- face. This model agrees with our molecular dynamic results very well. Together with the linear dependence of Eads on bi- axial strains, we can thus understand the effect of strains on the surface wettability. Thanks to the ease of reversibly ap- plying mechanical strains in micro/nano-electromechanical systems, we believe that strain engineering can be a promis- ing means to achieve the reversibly control of surface wetta- bility. 展开更多

Properties of the high-mass star forming region IRAS 22475+5939

IRAS 22475+5939 has been we can still discover new characteristics well studied by previous astronomers, but about it, using the first observations of the lines from CO J=2-1, 13C0 J=2-1 and 13CO J=3-2 by the KOSMA 3m telescope. The mapping of the intensity ratio of 13CO J=3-2 and 13CO J=2-1 shows that the distribution of the temperature has two peaks, neither of which coincide with the IRAS 22475+5939 source or the center of the HII region, but rather are located at the edge of the HII region. Overlays of the Spitzer IRAC 8 p.m with CO contours indicate that they are associated with each other and that the strongest polycyclic aro- matic hydrocarbon (PAH) emission is at the IRAS 22475+5939 source position. The IRAS LRS spectrum at 7μm-23 μm and the PHT-s spectrum at 2μm-12μm of the IRAS 22475+5939 source also exhibit strong PAH emission characteristics in the main PAH bands: The diversity of the PAH family should be responsible for the plateaus in the PAH emission in the PHT-s and IRAS-LRS spectra. Analysis and mod- eling in the infrared bands suggest that IRAS 22475+5939 is more likely to be a class I young stellar object. Where this is the case, the star is likely to have a tempera- ture of Tefr-9995.8K, mass-15.34Mo, luminosity -1.54×104 L- and age 1.54-104 yr. The model shows that circumstellar disc emission is important for wavelengths between 1 and 10μm, otherwise, the envelope fluctuates for A 〉 10μm. Bipolar outflow is confirmed in the molecular cloud, and the excited star of the HII region could be the driving source of the outflow. High resolution is required fm better results. 展开更多

In recent years it has become clear that the Milky Way is an important test- ing ground for theories of galaxy formation. Much of this growth has been driven by large surveys, both photometric and spectroscopic, which are producing vast and rich catalogs of data. Through the analysis of these data sets we can gain new and detailed insights into the physical processes which shaped the Milky Way's evolution. This review will discuss a number of these developments, first focusing on the disk of the Milky Way, and then looking at its satellite population. The importance of surveys has not gone unnoticed by the Chinese astronomy community and in the final section we discuss a number of Chinese projects that are set to play a key role in the development of this field. 展开更多

Impacts of Four Types of ENSO Events on Tropical Cyclones Making Landfall over China's Mainland Based on Three Best-track Datasets 被引量:6

Impacts of EI Nino Modoki (ENM), La Nina Modoki (LNM), canonical EI Nifio (CEN) and canonical La Nifia (CLN) on tropical cyclones (TCs) that made landfall over China's Mainland during 1951-2011 are analysed using best-track data from China, the USA and Japan. Relative to cold phase years (LNM and CLN), landfalling TCs in warm years (ENM and CEN) have a farther east genesis location, as well as longer track lengths and durations, both in total and before landfall. ENM demonstrates the highest landfall frequency, most northerly mean landfall position, and shortest after-landfall sustainability (track length and duration), which indicate a more frequent and extensive coverage of China's Mainland by TCs, but with shorter after-landfall influence. CEN has low landfall frequency and the most southerly mean landfall location. LNM has the most westerly genesis location, being significantly farther west than the 1951-2011 average and leading to short mean track lengths and durations both in total or before landfall, all of which are significantly shorter than the 1951-2011 average. Variations in the low-level wind anomaly, vertical wind shear, mid-level relative humidity, steering flow, the monsoon trough and the western Pacific subtropical high (WPSH) can to some extent account for the features of frequency, location, track length and duration of landfalling TCs. Since ENSO Modoki is expected to become more frequent in the near future, the results for ENSO Modoki presented in this paper are of particular significance. 展开更多

A sliding mode controller for a fractional-order memristor-based chaotic system is designed to address its problem in stabilization control.Firstly,aphysically realizable fractional-order memristive chaotic system was introduced,which can generate a complex dynamic behavior.Secondly,a sliding mode controller based on sliding mode theory along with Lyapunov stability theory was designed to guarantee the occurrence of the sliding motion.Furthermore,in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the controller,a condition was derived with the designed controller's parameters,and the stability analysis of the controlled system was tested.A theoretical analysis shows that,under suitable condition,the fractional-order memristive system with a sliding mode controller comes to a steady state.Finally,numerical simulations are shown to verify the theoretical analysis.It is shown that the proposed sliding mode method exhibits a considerable improvement in its applications in a fractional-order memristive system. 展开更多

Preliminary Design and Analysis of the DC Reactor for the ITER Converter

The DC reactor is an important piece of equipment for restraining loop and ripple currents in the international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) converter power supply system. As the reactor is operated at a steady state of 27.5 kA and needs to withstand a peak current of 175 kA, so the design of the DC reactor used in the ITER converter power supply system is necessary. A new water-cooling dry-type air-core reactor is designed in this work. The detailed structural parameters are calculated by theoretical formulas, and then the structure is optimized by electromagnetic simulation with ANSYS. Finally, thermal and dynamic stability analyses are performed to verify the temperature and stress at a rated current of 27.5 kA and pulsed current of 175 kA. The analysis results show that the temperature and stress meet the requirements of the ITER converter power supply system. 展开更多

A system model is established to analyze the dynamic performance of an integrated starter and generator (ISG) hybrid power shafting. The model couples the electromechanical coupling shaft dynamics, the bearing hydrodynamic lubrication and the engine block stiffness. The model is com- pared with the model based on ADAMS or the model neglecting the bearing hydrodynamics. The bearing eccentricity and the oil film pressure have been calculated under different hybrid conditions or at the different motor power levels. It' s found that the bearing hydrodynamics decreases the cal- culation results of the bearing peak load. Changes of the hybrid conditions or the motor power have no significant effect on the main bearing, but have impact on the motor bearing. A hybrid power sys- tem composed of a 1.6 L engine and a 45 kW ISG motor can operate safely. 展开更多

Based on the transmission line code (TLCODE), a circuit model is developed here for analyses of main switches in the high pulsed-power facilities. With the structure of the ZR main switch as an example, a circuit model topology of the switch is proposed, and in particular, calculation methods of the dynamic inductance and resistance of the switching arc are described. Moreover, a set of closed equations used for calculations of various node voltages are theoretically derived and numericMly discretized. Based on these discrete equations and the Matlab program, a simulation procedure is established for analyses of the ZR main switch. Voltages and currents at different key points are obtained, and comparisons are made with those of a PSpice L-C model. The comparison results show that these two models are perfectly in accord with each other with discrepancy less than 0.1%, which verifies the effectiveness of the TLCODE model to a certain extent. 展开更多

A simple criterion for finite time stability with application to impacted buckling of elastic columns

The existing theories of finite-time stability depend on a prescribed bound on initial disturbances and a prescribed threshold for allowable responses. It remains a challenge to identify the critical value of loading parameter for finite time instability observed in experiments without the need of specifying any prescribed threshold for al- lowable responses. Based on an energy balance analysis of a simple dynamic system, this paper proposes a general criterion for finite time stability which indicates that finite time stability of a linear dynamic system with constant coefficients during a given time interval [0, tf] is guaranteed provided the product of its maximum growth rate (determined by the maximum eigen-root pl 〉0) and the duration tf does not exceed 2, i.e., pltf 〈2. The proposed criterion (pltf=2) is applied to several problems of impacted buckling of elastic columns: (i) an elastic column impacted by a striking mass, (ii) longitudinal impact of an elastic column on a rigid wall, and (iii) an elastic column compressed at a constant speed ("Hoff problem"), in which the time-varying axial force is replaced approximately by its average value over the time duration. Comparison of critical parameters predicted by the proposed criterion with available experimental and simulation data shows that the proposed criterion is in robust reasonable agreement with the known data, which suggests that the proposed simple criterion (pltf---2) can be used to estimate critical parameters for finite time stability of dynamic systems governed by linear equations with constant coefficients. 展开更多

As a first step towards the numerical analysis of the stochastic primitive equations of the atmosphere and the oceans, the time discretization of these equations by an implicit Euler scheme is studied. From the deterministic point of view, the 3D primitive equations are studied in their full form on a general domain and with physically realistic boundary conditions. From the probabilistic viewpoint, this paper deals with a wide class of nonlinear, state dependent, white noise forcings which may be interpreted in either the Itor the Stratonovich sense. The proof of convergence of the Euler scheme,which is carried out within an abstract framework, covers the equations for the oceans, the atmosphere, the coupled oceanic-atmospheric system as well as other related geophysical equations. The authors obtain the existence of solutions which are weak in both the PDE and probabilistic sense, a result which is new by itself to the best of our knowledge. 展开更多
