The great Sumatra-Andaman earthquake fully excited the Earth’s free oscillations and these signals were perfectly recorded by five superconducting gravimeters in the globe. After the pre-treatment and spectral analysis on the SG observation data, we obtained the experimented mode serials of the Earth’s free oscillations consisting of 147 modes with GGP station data. These observed modes were themselves some new important data for the study of the Earth’s deep structure. On the basis of the discussions on some checked inner-core-sensitive modes, we distinguished three layers from the inner core, and the boundary of the upper layer was compatible with the formerly known transition zone in the inner core based on seismic body waves and supported that there were the hemispherical variation and very lower shear velocity zone in the lower inner core.展开更多

The signals of Earth's free oscillations were perfectly re-corded by the superconducting gravimeter C0-32 at Wuhan station in China. After the pre-treatment and spectral analysis on the observational data from Wuhan station,we obtained more than ninety EFO modes including 42 fundamental modes,2 radial modes and 49 harmonic modes. On the basis of the discussions on some observed harmonic modes and abnormal splitting phenomena,we considered that the real rigidity might be lower than the theoretical prediction of PREM model in the inner core and however the anisotropy of compressive wave was brightly higher than the present estimations in the inner core. This suggested that the anisotropy of the inner core could be much more complicated than our present understanding, and there might be some new geophysical phenomena in the formation process of the inner core.展开更多

Focal mechanisms of large earthquakes can be well analyzed and constrained with observations of long period free oscillations. Although the 2013 Lushan earthquake was only moderately sized, observable spherical normal modes were excited and clearly observed by a superconductive gravimeter and a broadband seismometer. We compare observed free oscillations with synthetic normal modes corresponding to four different focal mechanisms for the Lushan earthquake. The results show that source parameters can be analyzed and constrained by spherical normal modes in a 2.3–5 mHz frequency band. The scalar seismic moment M0 has a major influence on the amplitudes of free oscillations; additionally, the strike, dip, rake and depth of the hypocenter have minor influences. We found that the synthetic modes corresponding to the focal mechanism determined by the Global Centroid Moment Tensor show agreement to the observed modes, suggesting that earthquake magnitudes predicted in this way can readily reflect the total energy released by the earthquake. The scalar seismic moment obtained by far-field body wave inversion is significantly underestimated. Focal mechanism solutions can be improved by joint inversion of far- and near-field data.展开更多

The eigenperiods of basic modes (0T2 - 0T67 ) and first modes (1T2 ~ 1T50 ) were detected, and their error ratios were less than 0. 5% by comparing the observed eigenvalues with the theoretical eigenvalues in PREM. We supplemented some modes- 0T11,0T15 , 0T19 , 1T4 , 1T5 and 1T14 ,which were not mentioned in PREM,and also observed the spectral line multi-peak phenomenon from 0T2, 0T6 , 0T7 and 0T8 . These results show that the JCZ-1 seismometer is able to precisely observe the Earth's long period toroidal free oscillations.展开更多

It is one of the problems of researching the Earth's liquid core for us to retrieve the parameters of the Earth's Free Core Nutation (FCN),from the Earth's liquid core resonance of gravity tide waves on the diurnal frequency band. Since 1987, some scientists in many different countries have come to calculate the parameters of FCN by using the observational data of gravity tide waves on the diumal frequency band. They basically followed the Stacking method, which needed five diurnal waves for the resolution. In this paper, authors introduced the Aky-Btk value method with clearly geometrical meaning as a new method, which only requires three very high signal-noise-ratio waves o1, K1 and P1 for the resolution. Authors chose the observational data of the three superconducting gravimeter stations respectively located in Cantley of Canada, Wuhan of China and Brussels of Belgium, to compute the parameters of FCN. It was the first time that the observational results of the parameters of FCN obtained from gravitational tide were in accord with the parameters of FCN gained from VLBI since 1987.展开更多

It is demonstrated numerically that the second-order uniaxial anisotropy plays a significant role in the occurrence of a zero-magnetic-field steady-state precession, which can be understood in terms of the energy balance between the energy accumulation due to the spin torque and the energy dissipation due to the Gilbert damping. In particular, a relatively large zero-magnetic-field-oscillation current region, in which the corresponding microwave frequency is increased while the threshold current still maintains an almost constant value, can be obtained by modulating the second-order uniaxial anisotropy of the free layer. These results suggest a tunable zero-magnetic-field STNO, and it may be a promising configuration for STNO's applications in future wireless communications.展开更多

However, the Reynolds and roass-damping are the very important parameters for the peak amplitude of a freely vibrating cylinder. In the present study, a function F is introduced to connect the forced oscillation and free vibration. Firstly the peak amplitude AG^* can be obtained from the function F using forced oscillation data of Gopalkrishnan' s experimental at Re = 10^4, and then the Reynolds effect is taken into account in the function f(Re), while the mass-damping effect is considered in the function K( α ), where a is the mass-damping ratio. So the peak amplitude of a freely vibrating cylinder can be predicted by the expression: A ^* = K( α )f( Re )AG^* . It is found that the peak transverse amplitudes predicted by the above equation agree very well with many recent experimental data under both high and low Reynolds conditions while roass-damping varies. Furthermore, it is seen that the Reynolds number does have a great effect on the peak amplitude of a freely vibrating cylinder. The present idea in this paper can be applied as an update in the empirical models that also use forced oscillation data to predict the vortex induced vibration (VIV) response of a long riser in the frequency domain.展开更多

In this paper, a fixed time integral sliding mode controller is designed based on fixed time stability theory, which ensures precise convergence of the state variables of controlled system, and overcomes the drawback of convergence time growing unboundedly as the initial value increases in finite time controller. It makes the controlled system converge to the control objective within a fixed time bounded by a constant as the initial value grows, and convergence time can be changed by adjusting parameters of controllers properly. Compared with other fixed time controllers, the fixed time integral sliding mode controller proposed in this paper achieves chattering-free control, and integral expression is used to avoid singularity generated by derivation. Finally, the controller is used to stabilize four-order chaotic power system. The results demonstrate that the controller realizes the non-singular chattering-free control of chaotic oscillation in the power system and guarantees the fixed time convergence of state variables, which shows its higher superiority than other finite time controllers.展开更多

We compare these spheroidal modes with theoretical free oscillation spectra calculated from the Preliminary Reference Earth Model (PREM) and find a coincidence between their periods. Spectral splitting phenomenon is observed obviously in 0S2, 0S3, 0S4, 2S1 and 1S2 free oscillation modes. What is most noticeable is that the oscillation mode 2S1 is reported for the second time (the first time by Rosat et al) without any data stacking. We simulated the split singlet of 0S2 mode on seven CDSN stations based on general focal mechanism and seismic moment of the earthquake. The result shows that seismic moment of the earthquake can reach 10^23 N.m. We also find that the recording of Earth's free oscillations carries abundant information of source mechanism and earthquake location, which is applicable to the detailed study of source rupture parameters.展开更多

The paper uses an LMI-based iterative nonlinear optimization algorithm to establish a method of designing state-feedback controllers for power systems with a time-varying delay. This method is based on the delay-dependent stabilization conditions obtained by the improved free weighting matrix (IFWM) approach. In the stabilization conditions, the upper bound of feedback signal’s transmission delays is taken into consideration. Combining theoriesof state feedback control and state observer, the ASC is designed and time-delay output feedback robust controller is realized for power system. The ASC uses the input information from Phase Measurement Units (PMUs) in the system and dispatches supplementary control signals to the available local controllers. The design of the ASC is explained in detail and its performance validated by time domain simulations on a New England test power system (NETPS).展开更多

The result matches well with the PREM results. Compared to the theoretical free oscillation from the PREM model, all relative errors are concentrated on 0.1% except for _0S_7, whose relative error is greater than 0.3%. This research provides a new method to determine the spheroidal modes of Earth's free oscillations from observations of the pendulum tilt-meter and water tube tilt-meter, which may be useful in the future study of the Earth's free oscillations.展开更多

文摘This paper addresses a computationally compact and statistically optimal joint Maximum a Posteriori(MAP)algorithm for channel estimation and data detection in the presence of Phase Noise(PHN)in iterative Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)receivers used for high speed and high spectral efficient wireless communication systems. The MAP cost function for joint estimation and detection is derived and optimized further with the proposed cyclic gradient descent optimization algorithm. The proposed joint estimation and detection algorithm relaxes the restriction of small PHN assumptions and utilizes the prior statistical knowledge of PHN spectral components to produce a statistically optimal solution. The frequency-domain estimation of Channel Transfer Function(CTF)in frequency selective fading makes the method simpler, compared with the estimation of Channel Impulse Response(CIR)in the time domain. Two different time-varying PHN models, produced by Free Running Oscillator(FRO)and Phase-Locked Loop(PLL)oscillator, are presented and compared for performance difference with proposed OFDM receiver.Simulation results for joint MAP channel estimation are compared with Cramer-Rao Lower Bound(CRLB),and the simulation results for joint MAP data detection are compared with“NO PHN"performance to demonstrate that the proposed joint MAP estimation and detection algorithm achieve near-optimum performance even under multipath channel fading.

文摘Chattering phenomenon and singularity are still the main problems that hinder the practical application of sliding mode control. The results demonstrate that the controller realizes the non-singular chattering-free control of chaotic oscillation in the power system and guarantees the fixed time convergence of state variables, which shows its higher superiority than other finite time controllers.

文摘The 0S2-0S54 spheroidal modes of Earth's free oscillations, triggered by the great Sumatra-Andaman earthquake of 26 December 2004 are retrieved from VHZ data recorded by seven upgraded stations of China Digital Seismograph Network (CDSN). We also find that the recording of Earth's free oscillations carries abundant information of source mechanism and earthquake location, which is applicable to the detailed study of source rupture parameters.
文摘The paper demonstrates the possibility to enhance the damping of inter-area oscillations using Wide Area Measurement (WAM) based adaptive supervisory controller (ASC) which considers the wide-area signal transmission delays. The design of the ASC is explained in detail and its performance validated by time domain simulations on a New England test power system (NETPS).
文摘Based on the digital observational data from pendulum tilt-meters and water tube tilt-meters, the spheroidal free oscillations of the Earth, excited by the M_S8.0 Wenchuan earthquake of May 12, 2008, were obtained using the method of power spectral density estimation without any calculation to erase solid tides. The result matches well with the PREM results. Compared to the theoretical free oscillation from the PREM model, all relative errors are concentrated on 0.1% except for _0S_7, whose relative error is greater than 0.3%. This research provides a new method to determine the spheroidal modes of Earth's free oscillations from observations of the pendulum tilt-meter and water tube tilt-meter, which may be useful in the future study of the Earth's free oscillations.
