Torsional fretting wear tests involving flat specimens of no-treated and treated titanium, as well as its alloys, against a ZrO2 ball contact were performed on a torsional fretting wear test rig using a simulated physiological medium of serum solution. The treated surfaces were characterized, and the effect of implantation dose on torsional fretting behavior was discussed in detail. The results showed that the torsional fretting running and damage behavior of titanium and its alloys were strongly dependent on the dose of the implanted nitrogen ions and the angular displacement amplitude. The torsional fretting running boundary moved to smaller angular displacement amplitude, and the central light damage zone decreased, as the ion dose increased. The wear mechanisms of titanium and its alloys were oxidative wear, abrasive wear and delamination, with abrasive wear as the most common mechanism of the ion implantation layers.展开更多

In this study, standard procedures and conditions set by the ISO for tool life testing in milling were used to analyze the wear of tungsten carbide micro-end-milling tools through slot milling conducted on titanium alloy Ti-6 Al-4 V. Tool wear was characterized by flank wear rate,cutting-edge radius change, and tool volumetric change. The effect of machining parameters, such as cutting speed and feedrate, on tool wear was investigated with reference to surface roughness and geometric accuracy of the finished workpiece. Experimental data indicate different modes of tool wear throughout machining, where nonuniform flank wear and abrasive wear are the dominant wear modes. High cutting speed and low feedrate can reduce the tool wear rate and improve the tool life during micromachining. However, the low feedrate enhances the plowing effect on the cutting zone, resulting in reduced surface quality and leading to burr formation and premature tool failure. This study concludes with a proposal of tool rejection criteria for micro-milling of Ti-6 Al-4 V.展开更多

In this paper, 316 L stainless steel and CF/PEEK were selected to process the upper and bottom specimens, and the biomimetic non-smooth surface was introduced into the interface between the friction pair. The friction and wear tests were performed on a MMD-5 A tester at a rotation speed of 1000 r/min and load of 200 N under seawater lubricated condition. Tool wear occurs during FSW, especially for welding metal matrix composites with large amounts of abrasive particles, and high melting point materials, which significantly expedite tool wear and deteriorate the mechanical performance of welds. Tools with different pin-wear levels are used to weld 6061 Al alloy, while acoustic emission (AE) sensing, metallographic sectioning, and tensile testing are employed to evaluate the weld quality in various tool wear conditions. Structural characterization shows that the tool wear interferes with the weld quality and accounts for the formation of voids in the nugget zone. Tensile test analysis of samples verifies that both the ultimate tensile strength and the yield strength are adversely affected by the formation of voids in the nugget due to the tool wear. The failure location during tensile test clearly depends on the state of the tool wear, which led to the analysis of the relationships between the structure of the nugget and tool wear. AE signatures recorded during welding reveal that the AE hits concentrate on the higher amplitudes with increasing tool wear. The results show that the AE sensing provides a potentially effective method for the on-line manitoring of tool wear.展开更多

High resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis shows that different proportions of Tb in Pr1-xTbxFe1.9 alloys can result in different easy magnetization directions(EMD) below 70 K, i.e., [100] with x = 0.0, and [111] with x ≥ 0.1. This indicates Tb substitution can lead the EMD to change from [100] to [111] with x rising from 0.0 up to 0.1. The Tb substitution for Pr reduces the saturation magnetization Ms and the magnetostriction to their minimum value when x = 0.6, but it can increase low-field(0 ≤ H ≤9 kOe, the unit 1 Oe = 79.5775 A·m-1) magnetostriction when x = 0.8 and 1.0 at 5 K. This can be attributed to the larger magnetostriction of PrFe1.9 than that of TbFe1.9, as well as the decrease of the resulting anisotropy due to Tb substitution at low temperatures.展开更多

文摘The rules of diffusion wear and oxidation wear for PCBN cutting tools were analyzed based on thermodynamics theory. Dissolution concentrations in typical normal workpice materials of PCBN tool material at different temperature were then calculated. Diffusion reaction rules in high temperature were developed and analyzed using the Gibbs free energy criterion. The machining tests were conducted using the PCBN tools at different cutting speeds of 50, 95,100 and 180 m/min, feed of 0.1, 0.2 and depth of cut of 0.1, 0.8, 1, and 1.5 mm respectively on a PUMA300LM numerically-controlled lathe. It was found that the theoretical results were uniform with the experimental data, and the results will provide useful references for tool material design and selection.

文摘The minimum quantity of lubrication(MQL) technique is becoming increasingly more popular due to the safety of environment. Moreover,MQL technique not only leads to economical benefits by way of saving lubricant costs but also presents better machinability. However, the effect of MQL parameters on machining is still not clear, which needs to be overcome. In this paper, the effect of different modes of lubrication,i.e.,conventional way using flushing, dry cutting and using the minimum quantity lubrication(MQL) technique on the machinability in end milling of a forged steel(50CrMnMo),is investigated. The influence of MQL parameters on tool wear and surface roughness is also discussed.MQL parameters include nozzle direction in relation to feed direction, nozzle elevation angle, distance from the nozzle tip to the cutting zone, lubricant flow rate and air pressure. The investigation results show that MQL technique lowers the tool wear and surface roughness values compared with that of conventional flood cutting fluid supply and dry cutting conditions.Based on the investigations of chip morphology and color,MQL technique reduces the cutting temperature to some extent. The relative nozzle-feed position at 120°,the angle elevation of 60° and distance from nozzle tip to cutting zone at 20 mm provide the prolonged tool life and reduced surface roughness values. This fact is due to the oil mists can penetrate in the inner zones of the tool edges in a very efficient way.Improvement in tool life and surface finish could be achieved utilizing higher oil flow rate and higher compressed air pressure. Moreover, oil flow rate increased from 43.8 mL?h to 58.4 mL?h leads to a small decrease of flank wear, but it is not very significant. The results obtained in this paper can be used to determine optimal conditions for milling of forged steel under MQL conditions.
文摘The effect of deep cryogenic treatment on the microstructure, hardness, and wear behavior of D2 tool steel was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), hardness test, pin-on-disk wear test, and the reciprocating pin-on-fiat wear test. The results show that deep cryogenic treatment eliminates retained austenite, makes a better carbide distribution, and increases the carbide content. Furthermore, some new nano-sized carbides form during the deep cryogenic treatment, thereby increasing the hardness and improving the wear behavior of the samples.

文摘The wear forms and reasons of PCBN tools when dry-cutting bearing steel GCr15are studied systematically. The effect law of the workpiece hardness on PCBN tools is gained andtool wearing with the quickest speed at the workpiece critical hardness is proved. The life equationat two kinds of workpiece hardness demonstrates that the effect of the cutting speed on the PCBNtool life is less than that of carbide tools and ceramic tools.

文摘Railway infrastructure relies on the dynamic interaction between wheels and rails;thus, assessing wheel wear is a critical aspect of maintenance and safety. This paper focuses on the wheel-rail wear indicator T-gamma(Tγ).Amidst its use,it becomes apparent that Tγ,while valuable, fails to provide a comprehensive reflection of the actual material removal and actual contact format, which means that using only Tγas a target for optimization of profiles is not ideal. In this work, three different freight wagons are evaluated:a meter-gauge and a broad-gauge heavy haul vehicles from South American railways, and a standard-gauge freight vehicle operated in Europe, with different axle loads and dissimilar new wheel/rail profiles. These vehicles are subjected to comprehensive multibody simulations on various tracks. The simulations aimed to elucidate the intricate relationship between different wear indicators:Tγ,wear index, material removal, and maximum wear depth, under diverse curves,non-compensated lateral accelerations(A_(nc)),and speeds. Some findings showed a correlation of 0.96 between Tγand wear depth and 0.82 between wear index and material removed for the outer wheel. From the results, the Tγis better than the wear index to be used when analyzing wear depth while the wear index is more suited to foresee the material lost. The results also show the low influence of A_(nc)on wear index and Tγ.By considering these factors together, the study aims to improve the understanding of wheel-rail wear by selecting the best wear analysis approaches based on the effectiveness of each parameter.

文摘Tool condition is one of the main concerns in friction stir welding (FSW), because the geometrical condition of the tool pin including size and shape is strongly connected to the microstrueture and mechanical performance of the weld. The results show that the AE sensing provides a potentially effective method for the on-line manitoring of tool wear.
文摘Four wear modes and four wear mechanisms of diamonds in sawblades are identified in a study of varied segments damaged in field operation of sawing hard stone. The four wear mechanisms are impactshearing, fatiguing, pullingout and thermal effects. Surface erosion is the result of thermal effects, while impactshearing and fatiguing lead to macro and microfracture, and pullingout results in wholesale dislodgement of diamonds provided the inequality Fn>M/(μλδ) is satisfied.

文摘The crystal structures, magnetization, and spontaneous magnetostriction of ferromagnetic Laves phase Pr1-xTbxFe1.9 compounds are investigated in a temperature range between 5 K and 300 K. This can be attributed to the larger magnetostriction of PrFe1.9 than that of TbFe1.9, as well as the decrease of the resulting anisotropy due to Tb substitution at low temperatures.
