A highly positive correlation between RWC and drought resistance (r =0.783, P〈0.01), a highly negative correlation between MDA contents and drought resistance (r = -0.848, P〈0.01), a highly positive correlation between SOD activity and drought resistance (r = 0.777, P〈0.01) was observed. Free proline contents in leaves was not related obviously to the sweet potato drought resistance under 25% PEG treatment. The stronger the drought resistance of variety, the less decrease of RWC and increase of MDA contents, the more increase of SOD activity. By determining these physiological indices in sweet potato leaves under 25% PEG treatment, rapid identification of drought resistant ability of different varieties can be obtained in the lab.展开更多

The results showed that under drought conditions, the contents of soluble protein and malonialdehy (MDA) and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) in roots of maize seedlings significantly increased, and the increasing amplitude reduced after water shortage for 96 h. The re-watering treatment results after 48 h water shortage showed that the SOD and POD activities and the MDA content could recover to normal level, and the soluble protein content was lower than normal content. This study showed that the maize seedlings of Qingnong 8 suffered drought injury could grow normally after re-watering treatment.展开更多

Endemic infections depend on animal reservoirs with subclinical parasitemia. We report molecular diagnosis of subclinical Trypanosoma vivax (T. vivax) infection using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the first time in Nigerian goats and associate parasite presence with gross physiological traits and serum metabolites in extensively managed Nigerian goats. PCR was used to amplify a 400 bp DNA fragment of the parasite genome in 205 goats across three geographical zones of the country. Results showed a high subclinical infection rate (SCIR) of 71.7% in the total goats examined. Overall SCIRs of 71%, 75.9% and 55.6% were recorded in West African Dwarf, Red Sokoto and Sahel goats respectively, while geographical SCIRs were 71.2% (Southwest), 75% (Northwest) and 70% (Northeast). T. vivax presence had significant (P 0.05) effect on respiratory rate and is associated with higher creatinine levels in sera. Logistic regression analyses with Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit showed that respiratory rate is the most important predictive trait for the presence of T. vivax infection (P 0.05). Goats appear to be a viable reservoir for T. vivax infection of other livestock. Molecular diagnosis of subclinical trypanosomosis using PCR could be useful for large scale epidemiological studies, early diagnosis of subclinical infection and treatment of the disease in extensively managed tropical goats.展开更多

The results showed that the common characteristics of high yielding soybeancultivars were high LAI, uniform foliage distribution in all horizontal directions, lessvariance of photosynthetic rate between top and bottom leaves in canopy and relativelyhigher photosynthetic rate of the whole canopy. All these characters combined in allresulted in higher canopy photosynthetic productivity, and pod number, seed number andseed weight per plant, especially pod and seed number in top and middle canopy wereincreased. The characters of high yielding canopy varied among maturities. Light interceptionwas more important to early cultivars. Less foliage inclination angle was benefit tointercept more solar energy during yield formation. As late soybean cultivars had a moreclosure canopy and higher LAI, greater foliage inclination angle in all layers of highyielding canopy made more solar radiation penetrate into canopy, which was beneficial toyield formation.展开更多

Under water stress conditions, the transpiration ability decreased while the leaf temperature increased. Although the relative leaf water content decreased as water stress increased, the differences among the treatments were small, indicating that cotton has high ability in maintaining water in leaf. The stomatal density increased as water stress increased, while the maximum stomatal aperture reduced only in the severest stressed plants. The time of the maximum stomatal aperture was delayed in the mild and severe stressed plants. When severe stress occurred, the stomata were kept open until the transpiration decreased to nearly zero, suggesting that the stomata might not be the main factor in adjusting transpiration in cotton. Cotton plant has high adaptation ability to water stress conditions because of decrease in both stomatal conductance and hydraulic conductance from soil-to-leaf pathway. The actual quantum yield of photosystem Ⅱ (PS Ⅱ) decreased under water stress conditions, while the maximum quantum yield of PS Ⅱ did not vary among treatments, suggesting that PS II would not be damaged by water stress. The total dry weight reduced as water stress increased.展开更多

[Method]Asarum essential oils were extracted by different methods, and their effects on physiological and biochemical indices related to the structure of body wall( chitin and phenoloxidase),the physiological and biochemical indices acting on the nervous system( Acetylcholinesterase),and the physiological and biochemical indices acting on the digestive system( protease, amylase and lipase) of Ostrinia furnacalis and Mythimna seperata were studied. [Result]Asarum essential oils had no effect no chitin content of body wall under the experimental concentration, and had no inhibitory effect but activated effect on polyphenol oxidase activity. Asarum essential oils could act on the nervous system of insect, and had strong inhibitory effect against acetylcholinesterase activity of O. furnacalis larvae, with inhibition rates of 24. 86%- 38. 79%. Asarum essential oils showed a significant activated effect on pepsin activity in midgut, but the activated amplitude became smaller with the prolongation of treatment time. Asarum essential oils showed a significant inhibitory effect on activities of amylase and lipase, indicating that it could play an insecticidal effect by inhibiting activity of amylase and lipase, and it could act on digestive system of insect. [Conclusion]The study laid the foundation for further development of asarum as botanical pesticide.展开更多

The data of isoflavone contents for the 109 samples of soybeanseed and 33 eco-physiological factors including meteorological factors, soil nutritionand altitudes were received and used for statistical analysis. The step-wise regressionwas used to screen the correlated factors, which significantly effected isoflavonecontents. Results showed that 9 eco-physiological factors were highly correlated withisoflavones. Low mean temperature, high diurnal temperature range at seed filling andmaturity, more sunlight hours and low mean temperature at emergence were favorable toisoflavone accumulation. The rainfall at emergence showed a nonlinear relationship withisoflavone content and its optimum value was 75 mm for isoflavone formation. Low diurnaltemperature range at branching, high organic matter and low sulfur content in soil weresuitable for the formation of isoflavones. The isoflavone contents would not be affectedby other eco-physiological factors in this study.展开更多

[ Method ] Physiological and biochemical indicators of brown-egg dwarf layers were determined at the age of 20, 40 and 60 weeks, respectively. Fifty-four chickens were detected, nine roosters and nine hens at each age. [Result] As analyzed by ttest and multiple comparisons, during 20 -60 weeks old, the RBC, HGB, MPV, PDW, LYMPH%, TP and CHO showed an increasing trend. However, during this period, the HCT, MCV, RDW, WBC and LYMPH first decreased and then de- clined, while the MCH, MCHC, PLT, PCT, MID, MID%, GRAN, GRAN%, AST, ALB, TG, ALT and GLU changed contrarily. The chickens at different ages had significantly different physiological and biochemical indicators (P 〈 0.05). The RBC, HCT, HGB, WBC, LYMPH and AST were significantly different between the roosters and hens during 20 -60 weeks old. [ Conclusion] In the brown-egg dwarf layers, the physiological and bi- ochemical indicators vary with aging, and their difference levels also change with aging.展开更多

[Method] Seeds of oil sunflower were used as experimental materials and treated with 120 mmol/L NaCI solution and 0-200 mg/L Vc solution during the germina- tion process, to investigate the effects of exogenous Vc on seed germination and physiological properties of oil sunflower under salt stress. [Result] Under salt stress, with the increase of Vc concentration, germination potential and germination rate of oil sunflower seeds, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities and proline (Pro) content of oil sunflower seedlings increased first and then declined, which reached the maixmum in 80 mg/L Vc treatment, 120 mg/L Vc treatment and 80 mg/L Vc treatment, respectively; malondialdehyde (MDA) content of oil sunflower seedlings declined first and then increased, which reached the minimum in 160 mg/L Vc treatment. [Conclusion] To varying degrees, Vc could improve germination potential and germination rate of oil sunflower seeds and promote seedling growth under salt stress, thus alleviating the damages of salt stress to seed germination and seedling growth of oil sunflower.展开更多

Therefore, it is important to identify and cultivate cold-tolerant germplasm. The objective of this study was to figure out the mechanism of chilling(4 and 2°C) and freezing(–2 and –4°C) stresses along with a control(22°C) in B. napus cultivars(1801 and C20) under controlled environment(growth chamber). The experiment was arranged in a complete randomized design with three replications. Our results exhibited that under chilling and freezing stresses, the increment of proline accumulation, soluble sugar and protein contents, and antioxidant enzyme activity were enhanced more in 1801 cultivar compared with C20 cultivar. At –2 and –4°C, the seedlings of C20 cultivar died completely compared with 1801 cultivar. Hydrogen peroxide(H2 O2) and malondialdehyde contents(MDA) increased in both cultivars, but when the temperature was decreased up to –2 and –4°C, the MDA and H2 O2 contents continuously dropped in 1801 cultivar. Moreover, we found that leaf abscisic acid(ABA) was enhanced in 1801 cultivar under chilling and freezing stresses. Additionally, the transcriptional regulations of cold-tolerant genes(COLD1, CBF4, COR6.6, COR15, and COR25) were also determined using real-time quantitative PCR(RT-q PCR). RT-q PCR showed that higher expression of these genes were found in 1801 as compared to C20 under cold stress(chilling and freezing stresses). Therefore, it is concluded from this experiment that 1801 cultivar has a higher ability to respond to cold stress(chilling and freezing stresses) by maintaining hormonal, antioxidative, and osmotic activity along with gene transcription process than C20. The result of this study will provide a solid foundation for understanding physiological and molecular mechanisms of cold stress signaling in rapeseed(B. napus).展开更多

文摘The relationships between the changes of relative water content (RWC), malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and free proline contents in sweet potato leaves, and drought resistant ability under different concentration of polyethylene glycol (PEG) treatment applied at rhizosphere of sweet potato seedlings were studied. By determining these physiological indices in sweet potato leaves under 25% PEG treatment, rapid identification of drought resistant ability of different varieties can be obtained in the lab.

文摘Digital plant canopy imager and photosynthesis analyzer system were used to analyze thecharacteristics of canopy structure, photosynthetic physiology and micro-environmentalfactors at R4-R5 stage in different yielding soybean cultivars or lines with differentmaturities. As late soybean cultivars had a moreclosure canopy and higher LAI, greater foliage inclination angle in all layers of highyielding canopy made more solar radiation penetrate into canopy, which was beneficial toyield formation.
文摘A cotton cultivar Xinluzao 8 was grown under four levels of water stress treatments (normal irrigation, slight, mild and severe water stress) from the initial reproductive growth stage in Shihezi, Xinjiang, China, in 2002, to evaluate the growth and eco-physiological performances. The total dry weight reduced as water stress increased.

文摘[Objective]The paper was to study the effects of asarum essential oils on physiological and biochemical indices of two agricultural pests. [Conclusion]The study laid the foundation for further development of asarum as botanical pesticide.
文摘The soybean cultivar Yudou25 was sown at 5 locations of Henan Province on 13 differentdates in 2001 and 2002. The isoflavone contents would not be affectedby other eco-physiological factors in this study.

文摘[ Objective] To observe biological characteristics of brown-egg dwarf layers. [ Conclusion] In the brown-egg dwarf layers, the physiological and bi- ochemical indicators vary with aging, and their difference levels also change with aging.

文摘[Objective] The aim was to explore physiological responses of Brazil banana seedlings to drought stress simulated by PEG-6000.[Method] Brazil banana (Musa AAA Cavendish subgroup cv.Brazil) was taken as test materials to explore changes of physiological indices of banana seedlings under drought stresses simulated by PEG-6000,including three stress levels (5%,10% and 15%) and time periods (24,48 and 72 h).[Result] Relative water content and chlorophyll content both declined under different stress levels and in different times. The content of proline (Pro) in seedling leaves from high to low was PEG15%,PEG10% and PEG5%; the content of treatment of 5% stress in 24 h was of insignificant differences with that of the control and the contents in rest treatments were all remarkably higher compared with the control.POD activities of seedling leaves from high to low were as follows:PEG15%>PEG10%>PEG5%,and POD activity was of significant differences among treatments; POD activity achieved the peak in treatment group with 5% of stress, and POD activities of different groups were all higher compared with the control. The activity of root system in treatment groups with PEG at different concentrations was as follows:PEG10%>PEG15%>PEG5% and the activity increased remarkably in the group with PEG at 5% within 24,48 and 72 h,though the activity dropped significantly within 72 h and slowly in 24 and 48 h.[Conclusion] It can be concluded that relative water content, chlorophyll content,Pro content and activity and root activity can be references of banana resistance to drought.
文摘[Objective] This study aimed to provide the theoretical and technical basis for alleviating salt damages in production practice of oil sunflower (Helianthus annuus). [Conclusion] To varying degrees, Vc could improve germination potential and germination rate of oil sunflower seeds and promote seedling growth under salt stress, thus alleviating the damages of salt stress to seed germination and seedling growth of oil sunflower.

文摘Low temperature is one of the most important abiotic factors inhibiting growth, productivity, and distribution of rapeseed(Brassica napus L.). The result of this study will provide a solid foundation for understanding physiological and molecular mechanisms of cold stress signaling in rapeseed(B. napus).
