Globally,economies have become complex and new technologies have transformed and facilitated the modernization of economies.In the previous literature,economic complexity approach has become one of the popular tools i...Globally,economies have become complex and new technologies have transformed and facilitated the modernization of economies.In the previous literature,economic complexity approach has become one of the popular tools in the development and innovation studies of economic geography.Researchers have found that green technology and eco-innovation approaches should be used to decisively reduce the effects of carbon emissions on the environment.However,debates about the impact of economic complexity on environment remain unsettled since some emerging production technologies have far-reaching pollution effects.This study explored the impacts of economic complexity on environmental sustainability in Turkey using the novel Fourier-based approaches,namely:Fourier Augmented Dickey-Fuller(FADF)and Fourier Autoregressive-Distributed Lag(FARDL)models.The Fourier-based approaches indicated that all variables(economic complexity index(ECI),GDP,energy consumption,and CO_(2)emission(CO_(2)E))are cointegrated in the long run.Additionally,the FARDL model implied that(i)in the long run,the effect of ECI(as a proxy for economic complexity),GDP(as a proxy for economic growth),and energy consumption on CO_(2)E(as a proxy for environmental quality)are important;(ii)economic complexity decreases environmental degradation in Turkey;and(iii)economic growth and energy consumption negatively affect environmental quality.The results also showed that economic complexity could be used as a policy tool to tackle environmental degradation.The findings also revealed that the fossil fuelbased economy will continue to expand and undermine Turkey’s efforts to meet its net zero emission target by 2053.Therefore,policy-makers should take actions and establish diversified economic,environmental,and energy strategies.For policy insights,the Turkish governments can use the combination of tax exemptions and technical support systems to support knowledge creation and the diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies The governments can also impose strict environmental regulations on the knowledge development phases.展开更多
All economies are concerned about rising carbon emissions,which contribute to environmental degradation.The current paper formulates a novel framework to scrutinize the impacts of shocks in economic complexity,FDI,env...All economies are concerned about rising carbon emissions,which contribute to environmental degradation.The current paper formulates a novel framework to scrutinize the impacts of shocks in economic complexity,FDI,environmental technology,and renewable energy on carbon emission in the leading clean energy investment countries,spanning the period from 1995 to 2020.In spite of the constraint for better environmental defence and the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs),this paper introduces an empirical approach utilizing the Panel NARDL methodology to investigate the asymmetrical connections between carbon emissions and relevant exogenous factors.Furthermore,we utilize additional techniques,namely AMG and CCEMG,to enhance the robustness of our findings.Our empirical findings reveal that positive shocks in economic complexity,FDI,environmental technology,and renewable energy reduce carbon emissions while negative shocks may result to elevated pollution levels in the long-run.However,adverse shocks in economic complexity and FDI cause increased pollution in the long run.Likewise,the short-run coefficient signs are also similar to the longrun coefficient signs but different in significance level and magnitude.This has paved the way for a well-designed policy for leading clean-energy investment countries should focus on structural change,FDI,technology and renewable energy consumption.展开更多
The impact of hydro energy production,economic complexity,urbanization,technological innovation and financial development on environmental sustainability between 1995 and 2017 is examined for a panel of thirteen Asian...The impact of hydro energy production,economic complexity,urbanization,technological innovation and financial development on environmental sustainability between 1995 and 2017 is examined for a panel of thirteen Asian economies using two environmental proxies—their ecological footprint and CO_(2)emissions.The non-parametric Driscoll-Kraay standard error method and the Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test are applied to the data.Our findings show that hydro energy production and technological innovation have a significant negative impact on the environment,thus promoting environmental sustainability.Economic complexity significantly lowers environmental sustainability while the non-linear effect of economic complexity favors environmental sustainability;this confirms the existence of an economic-complexity-based inverted-U-shaped environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis.Moreover,urbanization and financial development significantly decrease environmental sustainability.The results of our study confirm the feedback causality between hydro energy production and carbon dioxide emissions.We recommend expansionary policies regarding hydro energy production that are beneficial for substituting fossil fuel energy.This paves a path towards environmental sustainability in this era of global boiling.展开更多
