Purpose:The present study examined the patterns of children's expectancy beliefs and subjective task values through the Physical Activity as Civil Skill Program and associated links to physical education enjoyment a...Purpose:The present study examined the patterns of children's expectancy beliefs and subjective task values through the Physical Activity as Civil Skill Program and associated links to physical education enjoyment and total physical activity.Methods:The sample comprised 401 children aged 9–13 years from 3 small towns located in North-East Finland.All children received school-based activities across 2-year program from Grades 5 to 7.The present data were collected using questionnaires across 3 measurement phases during 2012–2014.Results:The levels of expectancy beliefs and subjective task values indicated to be relatively high and the development was stable through the program,especially in terms of expectancy beliefs,attainment value,and cost.In contrast,interest value and utility value decreased over the particular period of time.Boys believed they are physically more competent when compared to other students and valued physical education classes more important than girls.In addition,the higher the physical activity level the children reported,the higher the physical education enjoyment they perceived.Conclusion:The current program including actions to increase physical activity through manipulation of psychological and physical school environment modification indicated to be an effective strategy to prohibit declining levels of children's expectancy beliefs and task values.展开更多
Purpose:The purpose of this study is to explore the mathematical values,mathematics educational values,and educational values invoIved in mathematical modeling tasks based on different mathematical modeling perspectiv...Purpose:The purpose of this study is to explore the mathematical values,mathematics educational values,and educational values invoIved in mathematical modeling tasks based on different mathematical modeling perspectives.Design/Approach/Methods:In this con text,the prese nt study is a qualitative research based on document analysis.The data were analyzed usingsemantic content analysis,and the selected modeling tasks based on different mathematical modeling perspectives were examined at the sentence level.Findings:Control,mystery,and openness mathematical values appeared in all mathematical modeling tasks,and rationalism and objectivism mathematical values appeared in realistic/applied and socio-critical modeli ng perspectives.Product,exploration,creating,releva nee,pleasure,and application mathematics educational values also emerged in all modeling tasks.Educational values of social justice,equity,social welfare,humanity,and altruism were more important in the socio critical modeling,while the value of individualism was more emphasized in the model-eliciting approach.Originality/Value:By determining mathematical,mathematics educational,and educational values involved in mathematical modeling tasks based on different mathematical modeling perspectives,an effective and more value-balaneed mathematical modeling instruction can be provided.展开更多
English-language schooling has become a focal point for the Chinese education sector,since English has become the communicative means for global political,cultural and economic exchanges.This new reality means that mo...English-language schooling has become a focal point for the Chinese education sector,since English has become the communicative means for global political,cultural and economic exchanges.This new reality means that more is expected from tertiary-level English majors who become increasingly crucial as cross-cultural communicators.Considering the importance and popularity of English major programs,efforts relating to improvements in the existing 2000 Curriculum for English Major Chinese tertiary students Studies for Chinese universities are constantly being discussed.The Curriculum,in turn,attracts the attention of educators,as it is closely connected to teaching context,teaching method,evaluation of language programs,and so on.As such programs are never perfect and always require change and adaptation to changing contexts,what is needed is critique and innovation.This paper aims at analysing the existing 2000 Curriculum and putting forward some innovations and extrapolating the educative values of these reforms.The structure of the paper consists of four major sections.It begins with an evaluation of the existing 2000 Curriculum,both the positive and the problematic aspects of the program.The second section maps out three proposed innovations: Problem-Based Learning(PBL),Task-Based Language Teaching(TBLT) and the inclusion of Chinese cultural material.I then elaborate the advantages of the reform in contrast to the existing system.The final part of the paper extrapolates the various educative values of these reforms.展开更多
