The main purpose is to present the flexible approach developed for monitoring the data quality of the European Tertiary Education Register(ETER) database, illustrating its functioning and highlighting the main challenges that still have to be faced in this domain.Design/methodology/approach: The proposed data quality methodology is based on two kinds of checks, one to assess the consistency of cross-sectional data and the other to evaluate the stability of multiannual data. This methodology has an operational and empirical orientation. This means that the proposed checks do not assume any theoretical distribution for the determination of the threshold parameters that identify potential outliers, inconsistencies, and errors in the data. Findings: We show that the proposed cross-sectional checks and multiannual checks are helpful to identify outliers, extreme observations and to detect ontological inconsistencies not described in the available meta-data. For this reason, they may be a useful complement to integrate the processing of the available information.Research limitations: The coverage of the study is limited to European Higher Education Institutions. The cross-sectional and multiannual checks are not yet completely integrated.Practical implications: The consideration of the quality of the available data and information is important to enhance data quality-aware empirical investigations, highlighting problems, and areas where to invest for improving the coverage and interoperability of data in future data collection initiatives.Originality/value: The data-driven quality checks proposed in this paper may be useful as a reference for building and monitoring the data quality of new databases or of existing databases available for other countries or systems characterized by high heterogeneity and complexity of the units of analysis without relying on pre-specified theoretical distributions.展开更多

This sphere forces us to implement new methods and approaches in everyday learning process. The following academic research done on psycho-pedagogical sphere in higher education showed that the enhancement in the educational system is developing slowly because of the lack of research. By all means, it is the right time to follow the objectives and try to develop and suggest the current teaching process using technology that of course will be based on the development of quality control and thesaurus-agency approaches. As mentioned in Bolkan and Goodboy, their research showed that teachers who promote intellectual stimulation empower and enrich students both cognitive and affective getting knowledge and experience process in the classroom. The main objective of current experiment is that it suggests intellectual stimulation which is linked to intrinsic motivation, and that intrinsic motivation has all the advantages to influence students' use of effective studying behaviors. According to Dunlosky, Marsh, Nathan, Willingham and Rawson, there are specific techniques which can influence on the overall process of higher education.展开更多

Its educational efficiency is directly dependent on its quality, however educational content is more than information and data. This paper presents a new data quality framework for assessing digital educational content used for teaching in distance learning environments. The model relies on the ISO2500 series quality standard and beside providing the mechanisms for multi-facet quality assessment it also supports organizations that design, create, manage and use educational content with the quality tools (expressed as quality metrics and measurement methods) to provide a more efficient distance education experience. The model describes the quality characteristics of the educational material content using data and software quality characteristics.展开更多

文摘Nowadays, we face many obstacles connected with the high quality education. According to Dunlosky, Marsh, Nathan, Willingham and Rawson, there are specific techniques which can influence on the overall process of higher education.
文摘Digital educational content is gaining importance as an incubator of pedagogical methodologies in formal and informal online educational settings. The model describes the quality characteristics of the educational material content using data and software quality characteristics.

文摘BACKGROUND A low proportion of patients admitted to hospital with cirrhosis receive quality care with timely paracentesis an important target for improvement. We hypothesized that a medical educational intervention, delivered to medical residents caring for patients with cirrhosis, would improve quality of care.AIM To determine if an educational intervention can improve quality of care in cirrhotic patients admitted to hospital with ascites.METHODS We performed a pilot prospective cohort study with time-based randomization over six months at a large teaching hospital.Residents rotating on hospital medicine teams received an educational intervention while residents rotating on hospital medicine teams on alternate months comprised the control group. The primary outcome was provision of quality care-defined as adherence to all quality-based indicators derived from evidence-based practice guidelines-in admissions for patients with cirrhosis and ascites.Patient clinical outcomesincluding length of hospital stay(LOS);30-d readmission;in-hospital mortality and overall mortality-and resident educational outcomes were also evaluated.RESULTS Eighty-five admissions(60 unique patients)met inclusion criteria over the study period-46 admissions in the intervention group and 39 admissions in the control group.Thirty-seven admissions were female patients, and 44 admissions were for alcoholic liver disease.Mean model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)-Na score at admission was 25.8.Forty-seven(55.3%)admissions received quality care. There was no difference in the provision of quality care(56.41%vs 54.35%,P=0.9)between the two groups.30-d readmission was lower in the intervention group(35%vs 52.78%,P=0.1)and after correction for age, gender and MELD-Na score[RR=0.62(0.39,1.00),P=0.05].No significant differences were seen for LOS,complications,in-hospital mortality or overall mortality between the two groups.Resident medical knowledge and self-efficacy with paracentesis improved after the educational intervention.CONCLUSION Medical education has the potential to improve clinical outcomes in patients admitted to hospital with cirrhosis and ascites.

文摘BACKGROUND Colonoscopy attendance is a key quality parameter in colorectal cancer population screening programmes.Within these programmes, educative interventions with bidirectional contact carried out by trained personnel have been proved to be an important tool for colonoscopy attendance improvement, and because of its huge clinical and economic impact, they have been widely implemented. However, outside of this population programmes, educative measures to improve colonoscopy attendance have been poorly studied and no navigation interventions are usually performed.AIM To investigate the clinical and economic impacts of an educational telephone intervention on colonoscopy attendance outside colorectal cancer screening programmes.METHODS This randomized controlled trial included consecutive patients referred to colonoscopy from primary care centres from November 2017 to May 2018.The intervention group(IG)received a telephone intervention, while the control group(CG)did not.Patients assigned to the IG received an educational telephone call 7 d before the colonoscopy appointment. The intervention was carried out by two nurses with deep endoscopic knowledge who were previously trained for a telephone educational intervention for colonoscopy. The impact on patient compliance with preparedness protocols related to bowel cleansing, antithrombotic management, and sedation scheduling was also evaluated.A second call was conducted to assess patient satisfaction.Intention-to-treat(ITT)and perprotocol(PP)analyses were performed.RESULTS A total of 738 and 746 patients were finally included in the IG and CG respectively.Six hundred thirteen(83%)patients were contacted in the IG.The non-attendance rate was lower in the IG,both in the ITT analysis(IG 8.4%vs CG 14.3%,P<0.001)and in the PP analysis(4.4%vs 14.3%,P<0.001).In a multivariable analysis, belonging to the control group increased the risk of nonattendance in both, the ITT analysis(OR 1.81,95%CI:1.27 to 2.58,P=0.001)and the PP analysis(OR 3.56,95%CI:2.25 to 5.64,P<0.001).There was also a significant difference in compliance with preparedness protocols[bowel cleansing:IG 61.7%vs CG 52.6%(P=0.001),antithrombotic management:IG 92.5%vs CG 62.8%(P=0.001),and sedation scheduling:IG 78.8%vs CG 0%(P≤0.001)].We observed a net benefit of €55600/year after the intervention. The information given before the procedure was rated as excellent by 26%(CG)and 51%(IG)of patients,P≤0.001.CONCLUSION Educational telephone nurse intervention improves attendance, protocol compliance and patient satisfaction in the non-screening colonoscopy setting and has a large economic impact, which supports its imple-mentation and maintenance over time.
