The optical constant (n, k) and permittivity (ε', ε') were determined by applying Newton-Simpson recurrent substitution method. Corrosion rate was measured using both the p...Experiments were conducted to study the general room temperature corrosion characteristics of heat-treated and non-heat-treated Al-Li alloys with different Li compositions. Corrosion rate was measured using both the polarisation method and the weight-loss method. It was observed that the samples with higher Li content had lower corrosion resistance than those with lower Li content. Moreover, for all the specimens tested, it was fOund that heat treatment at 180℃ for 2 h (for the purpose of precipitation hardening) severely reduced the corrosion resistance,whereas heat treatment at 180℃ for 6 h significantly increased the corrosion resistance.展开更多

Silica induced relatively higher serum-PL throughout the experiment. The level of LPO also increased appreciably. They presented positive linear correlation. The early lesion was acute alveolitis with silica particles. These lesions became silicotic nodules on the 30th day, which then were enlarged gradually and fused by fibrosis. Alveolar macrophages (AM) were activated and surface structure was damaged. These results indicate that instilled sillca can induce lipid peroxidation of cell membrane and selective accumulation of lung PL展开更多

A single layer of intrinsic graphene has an average sheet resistance of the order ...Development of graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) faces a serious challenge of graphene interface to the dielectric material. A single layer of intrinsic graphene has an average sheet resistance of the order of 1-5 kΩ/□. The intrinsic nature of graphene leads to higher contact resistance yielding into the outstanding properties of the material. We design a graphene matrix with minimized sheet resistance of 0.185 kΩ/□ with Ag contacts. The developed matrices on silicon substrates provide a variety of transistor design options for subsequent fabrication. The graphene layer is developed over 400 nm nickel in such a way as to analyze hypersensitive electrical properties of the interface for exfoliation. This work identifies potential of the design in the applicability of few-layer GFETs with less process steps with the help of analyzing the effect of metal contact and post-process anneMing on its electrical fabrication.展开更多

The res...In order to study the interaction between two independent jets, a three-dimensional(3D) transient mathematical model is developed to investigate the flow field and acoustic properties of the two-stream jets. The results are compared with those of the single-stream jet at Mach number 0.9 and Reynolds number 3600. The large eddy simulation(LES) with dynamic Smagorinsky sub-grid scale(SGS) approach is used to simulate the turbulent jet flow structure. The acoustic field is evaluated by the Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings(FW-H) integral equation. Considering the compressibility of high-speed gas jets, the density-based explicit formulation is adopted to solve the governing equations. Meanwhile, the viscosity is approximated by using the Sutherland kinetic theory. The predicted flow characteristics as well as the acoustic properties show that they are in good agreement with the existing experimental and numerical results under the same flow conditions available in the literature. The results indicate that the merging phenomenon of the dual-jet is triggered by the deflection mechanism of the Coanda effect, which sequentially introduces additional complexity and instability of flow structure. One of the main factors affecting the dual-jet merging is the aperture ratio, which has a direct influence on the potential core and surrounding flow fluctuation. The analysis on the noise pollution reveals that the potential core plays a fundamental role in noise emission while the additional mixing noise makes less contribution than the single jet noise. The overall sound pressure level(OASPL) profiles have a directive property, suggesting an approximate 25° deflection from the streamwise direction, however, shifting toward lateral direction of about 10° to 15° in the dual-jet. The conclusion obtained in this study can provide valuable data to guide the development of manufacturing-green technology in the multi-jet applications.展开更多

In this paper, a mathematical method is developed to study the motions and elastic deformations of elastic floating collars in random waves. The irregular wave is simulated by the random phase method and the statistical approach and Fourier transfer are applied to analyze the elastic response in both time and frequency domains. The governing equations of motions are established by Newton's second law, and the governing equations of deformations are obtained based on curved beam theory and modal superposition method. In order to validate the numerical model of the floating collar attacked by random waves, a series of physical model tests are conducted. Good relationship between numerical simulation and experimental observations is obtained. The numerical results indicate that the transfer function of out-of-plane and in-plane deformations increase with the increasing of wave frequency. In the frequency range between 0.6 Hz and 1.1 Hz, a linear relationship exists between the wave elevations and the deformations. The average phase difference between the wave elevation and out-of-plane deformation is 60° with waves leading and the phase between the wave elevation and in-plane deformation is 10° with waves lagging. In addition, the effect of fish net on the elastic response is analyzed. The results suggest that the deformation of the floating collar with fish net is a little larger than that without net.展开更多

The third-order optical nonlinearities are characterized by the can...In this work, we focus on the optical super-resolution effect induced by strong nonlinear saturation absorption(NSA) of graphene oxide(GO) membranes. The third-order optical nonlinearities are characterized by the canonical Z-scan technique under femtosecond laser(wavelength: 800 nm, pulse width: 100 fs) excitation. Through controlling the applied femtosecond laser energy, NSA of the GO films can be tuned continuously. The GO film is placed at the focal plane as a unique amplitude filter to improve the resolution of the focused field. A multi-layer system model is proposed to present the generation of a deep sub-wavelength spot associated with the nonlinearity of GO films. Moreover, the parameter conditions to achieve the best resolution(~λ/6) are determined entirely. The demonstrated results here are useful for high density optical recoding and storage, nanolithography, and super-resolution optical imaging.展开更多

The gel-liquid crystal phase transitions(PT)in bilayers formed from a series of synthetic sodium dialkylmethyl sulphates have been studied by both fluorescence and differential scanning cal- orimetry(DSC)methods,which...The gel-liquid crystal phase transitions(PT)in bilayers formed from a series of synthetic sodium dialkylmethyl sulphates have been studied by both fluorescence and differential scanning cal- orimetry(DSC)methods,which are between the transitions of the corresponding phospholipids and the quarternary ammonium salt bilayers possessing the same hydrocarbon chains.The fluorescence I_3/I_1 ratio(R)of probe pyrene in the bilayers decreases below and increases above the transitions respectively with increasing the chain length of the surfactants in the series SUDS,SPHS,and SHOS.In addition, the difference between the R above and below the transition(⊿R)is larger in the suspension prepared at the temperature above that of the transition than in that formed at room temperature.Intermem- brahe transfer and transbilayer migration(flip-flop)evaluated by means of DSC of a mixture of equi- molar aqueous dispersions of SHOS and SPHS as well as by ESR of bilayer embedding the stable free radical 4-HD-TEMPO in the presence and absence of excess ascorbic acid take place noticeably only at the temperature above that of the transitions.Cholesterol has shown the same effect on ⊿R as to decrease the length of the alkyl chain of the surfactants.It also causes a decrease of the fluorescence Intensity ratio of excimer to monomer of pyrene,I_e/I_m(S),in both phase.The results are discussed in terms of bilayer structure,chain fluidity,and permeability of water.展开更多
