The coefficients depend on the local or fast variables corresponding to two different structural scales. A finite number of imperfect contact conditions are analyzed at each of the scales. The reiterated homogenization method(RHM) is used to construct a formal asymptotic solution. The homogenized problem, the local problems, and the corresponding effective coefficients are obtained. A variational formulation is derived to obtain an estimate to prove the proximity between the solutions of the original problem and the homogenized problem. Numerical computations are used to illustrate both the convergence of the solutions and the gain of the effective properties of a three-scale heterogeneous 1D laminate with respect to their two-scale counterparts. The theoretical and practical ideas exposed here could be used to mathematically model multidimensional problems involving multiscale composite materials with imperfect contact at the interfaces.展开更多

In this work an equivalent circuit network model is used. The resistance of the continuously-graded distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs), the current diffusion and the temperature effect due to different electric-contact areas are calculated and analyzed at first, as these parameters affect one another and are the key factors in determining the gain and thermal carrier loss. Finally, the gain and thermal carrier loss distributions are calculated and discussed.展开更多

By using the effective field method, the four-mirror cavity with two gain media can be regarded as a linear resonator with one effective combined gain (ECG), and we procure a theoretical model of the ECG and deduce its exact analytical expression. When the two branch gains are close to each other; the combined gain can be reduced to their product; and the simplified presentation of ECG has been demonstrated. The combined output power which directly reflects the small signal ECG of the four-mirror cavity is studied experimentally; and the results are in good agreement with the theoretical ones.展开更多

By building a parametric cost frontier model using panel data, this paper investigates the drivers of economic growth transformation from a cost perspective. According to our research, among various effects triggering corporate cost variations and in addition to the expansion of production scale, the largest effect is from technological progress, followed by the effect of factor price adjustment and the effect of efficiency gains. Within the decomposition of factor price adjustment effect, the energy factor effect is the most significant. Furthermore, energy price fluctuations are likely to become major factors restricting saving-based growth. Further study reveals that both the ownership reform and opening up of SOEs are favorable to reducing the costs generated by inefficiency. This paper provides empirical evidence for the driving mechanism of saving-based growth transformation as well as empirical evidence to support to the further deepening of property rights and market-oriented reforms.展开更多

When the driving field is resonant, at a suitable Doppler width, we can get a maximum value of the gain without inversion, which is much larger than that obtained when Doppler broadening is absent.展开更多

Calculations reveal that the gain compression is not necessarily a drawback affecting the laser dynamics. With a practical injection strength, a high gain lever effect and a moderate compression value allow us to theoretically predict a modulation bandwidth four times higher than the free-running one without a gain lever, which is of paramount importance for the development of directly modulated broadband optical sources compatible with short-reach communication links.展开更多

The leak current of THGEM plates is measured. The effective gain and energy resolution of a single THGEM are studied with a source of 55Fe, and the effective gain of the single THGEM versus the electric field strength in the induction region is investigated. The results show that the leak current of THGEM plates is less than 200 pA. In an atmospheric-pressure standard gas mixture, 8×103 effective gain and about 32% energy resolution can be reached for the single-THGEM detector.展开更多

This makes the re-opening and repair of the GEM detectors possible and significantly reduces the scrap rate in the mass production of large-area GEM detectors. With the technique, the assembly time can be limited to a few hours, a factor of ten improvement compared to that using gluing techniques. The details of design and assembly procedure of the 300 mm×300 mm GEM detector are described in this paper. This detector was tested with 8 keV X-rays for the effective gain, energy resolution and performance uniformity. The results show that the typical energy resolution is 20% at an effective gain of about 10-4, with fairly good uniformity.展开更多
