Kerosene, used as a dielectric fluid, was pyrolytically decomposed into carbon for the formationof a self-lubricated carbide layer on the aluminum alloy surface during EDA process. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)image found that the self-lubricated carbide layer was a multi-phase material with carbides and graphite. As a result, theEDA-modified aluminum alloy had a negligible wear rate of ~2?10?4 mg/m (c. f. ~1.1?10?2 mg/m for aluminum alloy substrate).Notably, a new characteristic was found that the EDA-processed carbide layer was a soft magnet, which improved theelectromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance of the alloy.展开更多

The mechanical properties and electrical resistivity were also investigated. The results indicated that a certain content of rare earth could improve the purification of the aluminum molten, enhance the strength, and reduce the electrical resistivity of Al-3.0 wt%Mg alloys. The strength reached the top value when RE content was 0.3 wt% while the alloy with 0.2 wt% RE addition had the smallest electrical resistivity. The elongation varied little when RE addition was no more than 0.2 wt%. But the excessive addition of rare earth would be harmful to the microstructure and properties of Al-3.0 wt%Mg alloys.展开更多

We design an Al-Sc-Zr-based alloy using semisolid extrusion to yield a good trade-off between strength and ductility along with excellent electrical conductivity. The Al-0.35Sc-0.2Zr wire with a diameter of 3 mm exhibited the best combined properties: a tensile strength of 210 ± 2 MPa, elongation of 7.6% ± 0.5%, and an electrical conductivity of 34.9 ± 0.05 MS/m. The average particle size of nanosized Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates increased from 6.5 ± 0.5 nm to 25.0 ± 0.5 nm as the aging time increased from 1 h to 96 h at 380 °C, accompanied by the corresponding volume fraction variation from(6.2 ± 0.1) × 10^(-4) to(3.7 ± 0.1) × 10^(-3). As proved by transmission electron microscopy observation, the high strength originates from the effective blockage of dislocation motion by numerous nanosized Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates whilst both electrical conductivity and ductility remain at a high level due to the coherent precipitates possessing an extremely low electrical resistivity.展开更多

The results showed that the electric field improved age hardening response obviously and postponed the decay of excess vacancies for 30rain during the early stage ageing of Al-4wt%Cu alloy. A large number of 2-4nm GP zones with dense distribution were observed after 1 min ageing with an electric field applied. The electric field-assisted-aged sample owned a lower coarsening rate of GP zone, which was about three fifths of that in the aged sample without an electric field, from 1 min to 120 rain ageing. The electric field contributed 8% increase of the vacancy migration enthalpy (0.663 ±0.021 eV) of pure Al, comparing with that (0.611 ±0.023 eV) of pure Al without an electric field. The increase of vacancy migration enthalpy, induced by the electric field, was responsible for the difference on evolution of quenched-in vacancy, rapid solute clustering and age hardening improvement during the early stage ageing of Al-4wt%Cu alloy.展开更多

So an analytic estimation and numerical modeling are performed in this paper to investigate the behavior of an actively cooled thermal protection system. The analytic estimation is based on the electric analogy method and finite element analysis(FEA) is applied to the numerical simulation. Temperature and stress distributions are obtained for the actively cooled channel walls with three kinds of nickel alloys with or with no thermal barrier coating(TBC). The temperature of the channel wall with coating has no obvious difference from the one with no coating, but the stress with coating on the channel wall is much smaller than that with no coating. Inconel X-750 has the best characteristics among the three Ni-based materials due to its higher thermal conductivity, lower elasticity module and greater allowable stress. Analytic estimation and numerical modeling results are compared with each other and a reasonable agreement is obtained.展开更多

The effects of La addition and orientation on the microstructure and properties of the as-cast alloy were investigated by an optical microscope, a scanning electron microscope with an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer, a tensile testing machine and an electrical conductivity tester. The result shows that the addition of La significantly refines the columnar grainsize and decreases the secondary dendrite arm spacing. Trace addition of La improves the room temperature ultimate tensile strength, elongation and electrical conductivity mainly by purifying during melting and casting. The ultimate tensile strength, elongation and electrical conductivity significantly decrease with the increase of La content due to formation of coarse particles and oxides, which severely harm the performance of the Cu-0.45 Cr-0.2 Zr-xLa alloys. The Cu-0.45 Cr-0.2 Zr-0.13 La alloy possesses a good combination of room temperature ultimate tensile strength, elongation and electrical conductivity. In addition, room temperature ultimate tensile strength and electrical conductivity along transverse direction of the ingot are higher than that along longitudinal direction, which is mainly ascribed to different distribution of grain boundary and grain orientation.展开更多
