Vertical electrical sounding (VES) was carried out using Schlumberger configuration in 10 locations within the area. Both manual and computer interpretation of the resistivity data reveals three to four geoelectric units (laterite topsoil, medium-grained sand, coarse-grained sand, and sandy clay sand) which agrees with the lithologic log from existing boreholes. The aquifer layer was identified along the third formation with resistivity values ranging from 1239 - 5719 Ωm and aquifer depth ranging from 30.2 - 54.8 m. The aquifer thickness ranged from 24.2 - 43.7 m. Hydraulic conductivity ranged from 0.1206 m/day - 0.5026 m/day with an average value of 0.29403 m/day. Formation factor ranged from 14.55 - 16.64. Porosity ranged from 15.98% - 22.40%, with an average value of 19.64%. The aquiferous zone falls within the medium/coarse-grained sand. The aquifer is shallow, unconfined, and prolific with a little overburden formation of 13.5 m. The area shows good prospects for groundwater development.展开更多

Geological and geophysical da...To minimize the number of solutions in 3D resistivity inversion, an inherent problem in inversion, the amount of data considered have to be large and prior constraints need to be applied. Geological and geophysical data regarding the extent of a geological anomaly are important prior information. We propose the use of shape constraints in 3D electrical resistivity inversion, Three weighted orthogonal vectors (a normal and two tangent vectors) were used to control the resistivity differences at the boundaries of the anomaly. The spatial shape of the anomaly and the constraints on the boundaries of the anomaly are thus established. We incorporated the spatial shape constraints in the objective function of the 3D resistivity inversion and constructed the 3D resistivity inversion equation with spatial shape constraints. Subsequently, we used numerical modeling based on prior spatial shape data to constrain the direction vectors and weights of the 3D resistivity inversion. We established a reasonable range between the direction vectors and weights, and verified the feasibility and effectiveness of using spatial shape prior constraints in reducing excessive structures and the number of solutions. We applied the prior spatially shape-constrained inversion method to locate the aquifer at the Guangzhou subway. The spatial shape constraints were taken from ground penetrating radar data. The inversion results for the location and shape of the aquifer agree well with drilling data, and the number of inversion solutions is significantly reduced.展开更多

A radial basis function artificial neural network (RBF-ANN) model was developed for the analysis and prediction of the electrical resistivity of the tested alloy during the solid solution process. The results show that the model is capable of predicting the electrical resistivity with remarkable success. The correlation coefficient between the predicted results and experimental data is 0.9958 and the relative error is 0.33%. The predicted data were adopted to construct a novel physical picture which was defined as “solution resistivity map”. As revealed by the map, the optimum domain for the solid solution of the tested alloy is in the temperature range of 465?475 °C and solution time range of 50?60 min. In this domain, the solution of second particles and the recrystallization phenomenon will reach equilibrium.展开更多

The relative resistivity was calculated to characterize the phase transformation of the experimental alloy during different cooling processes. The results show that at high temperatures, the microstructure evolutions change from the directional diffusion of Zn and Mg atoms to the precipitation of S phase, depending on the cooling rate. At medium temperatures, q phase nucleates on A13Zr dispersoids and grain boundaries under fast cooling conditions, while S phase precipitates under the slow cooling conditions. The strength and ductility of the aged alloy suffer a significant deterioration due to the heterogeneous precipitation in medium temperature range. At low temperatures, homogeneously nucleated GP zone, η′ and η phases precipitate.展开更多

It is shown that the electrical resistivities of the cement soil and flyash lime soil are sensitive to water content, degree of saturation and unconfined strength. The cement soil and flyash lime soil with higher water content, greater degree of saturation, lower unconfined strength has lower electrical resistivity. Electrical resistivity is also correlated with additives. Based on the tests, it is concluded that the electrical resistivity method is available for checking the effectiveness of the soil improvement by the cement soil and flyash lime soil mixing pile in terms of engineering practice.展开更多

In Pb30Sb70, Pb20Sb80, and Pb10Sb90 melts, temperature dependence of resistivity deviates from linear dependence during cooling. At 663 °C, different trends in isothermal behavior between experimental and theoretical resistivities, are interpreted as the existence of Peierls distortion in Sb-rich melts. In Pb30Sb70 and Pb20Sb80 melts, abnormal viscosity results verify the existence of abnormal structure transition, which is attributed to the formation of large Sb clusters with Peierls distortion. In undercooled liquid Pb20Sb80, minute resistivity coefficient and quadratic resistivity behavior are interpreted as the rapid increase of cluster size of Sb clusters with Peierls distortion, which provides preferential nucleation sites for higher structure similarity to the crystalline and lower liquid–solid interfacial energy.展开更多

Th...The precipitation behavior and its influence on the electrical resistivity of the Al-0.96Mg2Si alloy during aging were investigated with in-situ resistivity measurement and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The precipitates of the peak aged alloy include both β" and if, but the amount ratio of β" to β" varies with the aging temperature and time increasing. The precipitates during aging at 175 ℃ are dominated by needle-like β" phases (including pre-β" phase), the size of which increases with the time prolonging, but does not increase substantially after further aging. The evolution of electrical conductivity is directly related to such microstructural evolution. However, the hardness of the alloy stays at the peak value for a long term. When the alloy is aged at 195 ℃, the ratio of β" to β' becomes the main factor to influence relative resistivity (Ap) value. The higher the temperature is, the smaller the ratio is, and the faster the Ap value decreases. Moreover, the hardness peak drops with the decrease of the ratio. With the size and distribution parameters measured from TEM images, a semi-quantitative relationship between precipitates and the electrical resistivity was established.展开更多

To solve these problems, we propose to use a pruning Bayesian neural network (PBNN) nonlinear inversion method and a sample design method based on the K-medoids clustering algorithm. In the sample design method, the training samples of the neural network are designed according to the prior information provided by the K-medoids clustering results; thus, the training process of the neural network is well guided. The proposed PBNN, based on Bayesian regularization, is used to select the hidden layer structure by assessing the effect of each hidden neuron to the inversion results. Then, the hyperparameter αk, which is based on the generalized mean, is chosen to guide the pruning process according to the prior distribution of the training samples under the small-sample condition. The proposed algorithm is more efficient than other common adaptive regularization methods in geophysics. The inversion of synthetic data and field data suggests that the proposed method suppresses the noise in the neural network training stage and enhances the generalization. The inversion results with the proposed method are better than those of the BPNN, RBFNN, and RRBFNN inversion methods as well as the conventional least squares inversion.展开更多

The hydration during 48 h period significantly and continuously decreased the animal skin resistance and had much smaller influence on the HEM. The relationship between the pulse voltage and the current across these skin models was similar to those of HEM in different hydration status, but there were some variations in the extent due to the various sensitivities. The profiles could be simulated by the equation of V=(4ART/F) sinh-1 (BI). The parameters A reflected the sensitivity of the skin species to the electrical field. The hairless mouse skin and hairless guinea pig skin were more sensitive than the HEM, the sensitivity of the hairless rat skin was the lowest among the skin species. The results were further proved by the tests of long period voltage regimens, but it was found that significant alteration of the skin resistance occurred in the very short time as the electrical field was set up or discontinued.展开更多

The SEM results show that the electromigration-induced local degradation of microstructures, i.e., segregation of Bi-rich phase and formation of microcracks, in the asymmetric solder interconnects is much severer than that in the symmetrical ones. FIB-SEM microanalysis reveals that the microregional heterogeneity in electrical resistance along different electron flowing paths is the key factor leading to non-uniform current distribution and the resultant electromigration damage. Theoretical analysis and FE simulation results manifest that the current crowding easily occurs at the local part with smaller resistance in an asymmetric solder interconnect. All results indicate that the asymmetric shape of the solder interconnect brings about the difference of the electrical resistance between the different microregions and further results in the severe electromigration damage.展开更多

A new type of electrical prefabricated vertical drain (ePVD) and a new electroosmotic drainage system are suggested to allow the application of the new method. This combined method is then field-tested and compared with the conventional vacuum combined with surcharge preloading method. The monitoring and foundation test results show that the new method induces a settlement 20% larger than that of the conventional vacuum combined with surcharge preloading method in the same treatment period, and saves approximately half of the treatment time compared with the vacuum combined with surcharge preloading method according to the finite element prediction of the settlement. The proposed method also increases the vane shear strength of the soil significantly. The bearing capacity of the ground improved by use of the new proposed method raises 118%. In comparison, there is only a 75% rise when using the vacuum combined with surcharge preloading method during the same reinforcement period. All results indicate that the proposed combined method is effective and suitable for reinforcing the soft clay ground. Besides, the voltage applied between the anode and cathode increases exponentially versus treatment time when the output current of power supplies is kept constant. Most of the voltage potential in electroosmosis is lost at electrodes, leaving smaller than 50% of the voltage to be effectively transmitted into the soil.展开更多

And interest in introducing electrical resistivity measurement to assess the quality of cement treated soils has increased markedly recently due to its economical, non-destructive, and relatively non-invasive advantages. This work aims to quantify the effect of cement content (aw), porosity (nt), and curing time(T) on the electrical resistivity (p) and unconfined compression strength (UCS) of cement treated soil. A series of electrical resistivity tests and UCS tests of cement treated soil specimen after various curing periods were carried out. A modified Archie empirical law was proposed taking into account the effect of cement content and curing period on the electrical resistivity of cement treated soil. The results show that nt/(aw·T) and nt/(aw·T^1/2) ratio are appropriate parameters to assess electrical resistivity and UCS of cement treated soil, respectively. Finally, the relationship between UCS and electrical resistivity was also established.展开更多

The area shows good prospects for groundwater development.
文摘This study introduces a continuum medium approximation(CMA)and an empirical effective medium approxi-mation(EMA)-type formulation to estimate the transport properties, including electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity,Seebeck coefficient, and Hall mobility,of nanostructured composites. The CMA incorporates the interface parameters mediated by newly introduced distribution functions to resolve predictions that deviate from the inclusion properties at its volume fraction of 1 in current EMAs and yields predictions agreed well with both the empirical EMA and experimental data. The empirical EMA-type formulation resolves the differ-ences in CMA predictions for the media A_(1-x)B_(x)and B_(1-x)A_(x)and provides a unique prediction that agrees very well with experimental data at a given volume fraction ranging from 0 to 1.The effects of the interface param-eters on the transport properties were investigated. The results indicated that the efficiency of nanostructured composites could be further improved by optimizing the interface parameters.

文摘To minimize the number of solutions in 3D resistivity inversion, an inherent problem in inversion, the amount of data considered have to be large and prior constraints need to be applied. The inversion results for the location and shape of the aquifer agree well with drilling data, and the number of inversion solutions is significantly reduced.

文摘The dynamic monitoring of landslides in engineering geology has focused on the correlation among landslide stability, rainwater infiltration, and subsurface hydrogeology. However, the understanding of this complicated correlation is still poor and inadequate. Thus,in this study,we investigated a typical landslide in southwestern China via time-lapse electrical resistivity tomography(TLERT) in November 2013 and August 2014.We studied landslide mechanisms based on the spatiotemporal characteristics of surface water infiltration and flow within the landslide body.Combined with borehole data, inverted resistivity models accurately defined the interface between Quaternary sediments and bedrock.Preferential flow pathways attributed to fracture zones and fissures were also delineated. In addition,we found that surface water permeates through these pathways into the slipping mass and drains away as fissure water in the fractured bedrock, probably causing the weakly weathered layer to gradually soften and erode, eventually leading to a landslide.Clearly,TLERT dynamic monitoring can provide precursory information of critical sliding and can be used in landslide stability analysis and prediction.

文摘The effects of the solid solution conditions on the microstructure and tensile properties of Al?Zn?Mg?Cu aluminum alloy were investigated by in-situ resistivity measurement, optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and tensile test. In this domain, the solution of second particles and the recrystallization phenomenon will reach equilibrium.

文摘The microstructure evolution and properties of an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy were investigated under different non-linear cooling processes from the solution temperature, combined with in-situ electrical resistivity measurements, selected area diffraction patterns (SADPs), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and tensile tests. At low temperatures, homogeneously nucleated GP zone, η′ and η phases precipitate.
文摘The electrical resistivity characteristics of cement soil and flyash lime soil are investigated in the laboratory and the field. Based on the tests, it is concluded that the electrical resistivity method is available for checking the effectiveness of the soil improvement by the cement soil and flyash lime soil mixing pile in terms of engineering practice.

文摘Electrical resistivity and viscosity of Pb–Sb alloys are measured to investigate Peierls distortion behavior in the melts. In undercooled liquid Pb20Sb80, minute resistivity coefficient and quadratic resistivity behavior are interpreted as the rapid increase of cluster size of Sb clusters with Peierls distortion, which provides preferential nucleation sites for higher structure similarity to the crystalline and lower liquid–solid interfacial energy.

文摘The precipitation behavior and its influence on the electrical resistivity of the Al-0.96Mg2Si alloy during aging were investigated with in-situ resistivity measurement and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). With the size and distribution parameters measured from TEM images, a semi-quantitative relationship between precipitates and the electrical resistivity was established.

文摘Conventional artificial neural networks used to solve electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) inversion problem suffer from overfitting and local minima. The inversion results with the proposed method are better than those of the BPNN, RBFNN, and RRBFNN inversion methods as well as the conventional least squares inversion.
文摘\ The suitability of three animal skin species as the model for iontophoresis study was discussed based on the current density measurement, compared with the electrical properties of the human epidermal membrane (HEM) in vitro. The results were further proved by the tests of long period voltage regimens, but it was found that significant alteration of the skin resistance occurred in the very short time as the electrical field was set up or discontinued.

文摘The electromigration induced microstructure evolution and damage in asymmetric Cu/Sn-58Bi/Cu solder interconnects were investigated by in-situ SEM observation, focused ion beam (FIB) microanalysis and finite element (FE) simulation. All results indicate that the asymmetric shape of the solder interconnect brings about the difference of the electrical resistance between the different microregions and further results in the severe electromigration damage.

文摘As a rapid and effective ground improvement method is urgently required for the booming land reclamation in China's coastal area, this study proposes a new combined method of electroosmosis, vacuum preloading and surcharge preloading. Most of the voltage potential in electroosmosis is lost at electrodes, leaving smaller than 50% of the voltage to be effectively transmitted into the soil.

文摘The improvement of question soils with cement shows great technical, economic and environmental advantages. Finally, the relationship between UCS and electrical resistivity was also established.
