The electrochemical process of Mg-Sr codeposition was studied in MgCl2-SrCl2-KCl melts containing different MgCl2 concentrations at 700 ℃ by cyclic voltammetry, chronopotentiometry and chronoamperometry. The results show that the actual precipitation potential of Sr reduces by nearly 0.5 V because of the depolarization effects of Sr activity reduced by forming Mg-Sr alloy. The codeposition potential condition of Mg and Sr to form Mg-Sr alloy is as follows: When electrode potential is more negative than -1.5 V, the magnesium will precipitate; when electrode potential is more negative than -2.0 V, the magnesium and strontium will both deposit. The control step of codeposition process of Mg and Sr is not diffusion control step. The codeposition current condition of Mg and Sr to form Mg-Sr alloy by chronoptentiometry is as follows: cathode current densities are higher than 0.71, 1.57 and 2.83 A/cm^2 in MgCl2-SrCl2-KCl melts with MgCl2 concentrations of 2%, 5% and 10% (mass fraction), respectively. A new technology for preparation of low cost Mg-Li alloys was studied. The alloys were prepared by electrolysis in molten LiCl-KCl (weight ratio is 1:1) electrolyte with Mg rod severing as the consumed cathode. Main factors that affect current efficiency were investigated, and optimal electrolysis parameters were obtained. Mg-Li alloys with low lithium Content (about 25%) were prepared by the unique method of a higher post-thermal treatment temperature after electrolysis at low temperature. The results showed that the electrolysis can be carried out at low temperature, which resulted in reducing preparation cost due to energy saving. The new technology for the oreoaration of Mg-Li alloy by electrolysis in molten salt was laroved to be feasible. 展开更多

Developing highly effective and stable non-noble metalbased bifunctional catalyst working at high current density is an urgent issue for water electrolysis(WE).Herein,we prepare the N-doped graphene-decorated NiCo alloy coupled with mesoporous NiCoMoO nano-sheet grown on 3D nickel foam(NiCo@C-NiCoMoO/NF)for water splitting.NiCo@C-NiCoMoO/NF exhibits outstanding activity with low overpotentials for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction(HER:39/266 mV;OER:260/390 mV)at±10 and±1000 mA cm^(−2).More importantly,in 6.0 M KOH solution at 60℃ for WE,it only requires 1.90 V to reach 1000 mA cm−2 and shows excellent stability for 43 h,exhibiting the potential for actual application.The good performance can be assigned to N-doped graphene-decorated NiCo alloy and mesoporous NiCoMoO nano-sheet,which not only increase the intrinsic activity and expose abundant catalytic activity sites,but also enhance its chemical and mechanical stability.This work thus could provide a promising material for industrial hydrogen production. 展开更多

The Mg-Li-La alloys... An electrochemical method was used to prepare Mg-Li-La alloys in a molten LiCl-KCl-KF-MgCl2 containing La2O3 at 943 K. The results showed preparation of Mg-Li-La alloys by electrolysis is feasible. The Mg-Li-La alloys were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical micrograph (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD analysis indicates that α+Mg17La2, α+β+Mg17La2 and β+LaMg3 Mg-Li-La alloys with different lithium and lanthanum contents were obtained via galvanostatic electrolysis. The microstructures of typical α+Mg17La2 and β+LaMg3 phases of Mg-Li-La alloys were characterized by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The analysis of energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) shows that the element of Mg distributes homogeneously in the Mg-Li-La alloy and the element of La mostly exists at grain boundaries to restrain the grain growth rate due to the larger ionic radius and lower electronegativity compared with Mg. 展开更多

Inefficient electrocatalysts and high-power consumption are two thorny problems for electrochemical hydrogen(H2)production from acidic water electrolysis.Herein we report the one-pot precise synthesis of ultrafine Au core-Pt Au alloy shell nanowires(Au@PtxAu UFNWs).Among them,Au@Pt_(0.077) Au UFNWs exhibit the best performance for formic acid oxidation reaction(FAOR)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER),which only require applied potentials of 0.29 V and-22.6 m V to achieve a current density of 10 m A cm^(-2),respectively.The corresponding formic acid electrolyzer realizes the electrochemical H2 production at a voltage of only 0.51 V with 10 m A cm^(-2) current density.Density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal that the Au-riched Pt Au alloy structure can facilitates the direct oxidation pathway of FAOR and consequently elevates the FAOR activity of Au@Pt_(0.077) Au UFNWs.This work provides meaningful insights into the electrochemical H_(2) production from both the construction of advanced bifunctional electrocatalysts and the replacement of OER. 展开更多

Effects of nickel component,thiourea,glue and chloride ions and their interactions on the passivation of copper–nickel based alloy scrap anodes were investigated by combining conventional electrochemical techniques.Results obtained from chronopotentiometry and linear voltammetry curves showed that the Ni component made electrochemical stability of the anode strong and difficult to be corroded,caused by the adsorption of generated Cu2O,NiO or copper powder to the anode surface.The Ni2+reducing Cu2+to Cu+or copper powder aggravated the anode passivation.In a certain range of the glue concentration≤8×10–6 or thiourea concentration≤4×10–6,the increase of glue or thiourea concentration increases the anode passivation time.Over this range,glue and thiourea played an adverse effect.The increase of chloride ions concentration led to the increase in passivation time. 展开更多

A series of Al based alloys with low titanium contents (mass fraction) from 0.178% to 0.526% were directly produced in ordinary industrial electrolyzer. The electrolyzing results show that producing Al based alloys with titanium contents of less than 0.30% without great loss of electrolysis efficiency is possible. The quantitative analysis shows that this method has a great refining effect on transiting the coarse columnar grains in pure Al to equiaxed grains. The grain sizes decrease with the increase of titanium content and tend to a low limit at about 130 μm. During the solidification, the non equilibrium distribution of titanium leads to a great growth restricting effect and a constitutional under cooling zone in front of the growing liquid /solid interface. 展开更多

Exploring noble metal-free catalyst materials for high efficient electrochemical water splitting to produce hydrogen is strongly desired for renewable energy development.In this article,a novel bifunctional catalytic electrode of insitu-grown type for alkaline water splitting based on FeCoNi alloy substrate has been successfully prepared via a facile one-step hydrothermal oxidation route in an alkaline hydrogen peroxide medium.It shows that the matrix alloy with the atom ratio 4∶3∶3 of Fe∶Co∶Ni can obtain the best catalytic performance when hydrothermally treated at 180℃for 18 h in the solution containing 1.8 M hydrogen peroxide and 3.6 M sodium hydroxide.The as-prepared Fe_(0.4)Co_(0.3)Ni_(0.3)-1.8 electrode exhibits small overpotentials of only 184 and 175 mV at electrolysis current density of 10 mA cm^(-2)for alkaline OER and HER processes,respectively.The overall water splitting at electrolysis current density of 10 mA cm^(-2)can be stably delivered at a low cell voltage of 1.62 V.These characteristics including the large specific surface area,the high surface nickel content,the abundant catalyst species,the balanced distribution between bivalent and trivalent metal ions,and the strong binding of in-situ naturally growed catalytic layer to matrix are responsible for the prominent catalytic performance of the Fe_(0.4)Co_(0.3)Ni_(0.3)-1.8 electrode,which can act as a possible replacement for expensive noble metal-based materials. 展开更多

The electrochemical behaviour of Y ̄(3+) and Ba ̄(2+) on platinum and copper electrode in molten YF_3(70 wt% )-NaF (20 wt%)-CaF_2(10 wt%) has been studied by means of cyclic voltammetry. discharge curve and so on. The Y-Ba-Cu alloy is obtained by fused salt electrolysis with molten YF_3-NaF-CaF_2 as electrolyte and Y_2O_3 and BaO as raw materials. Graphite cell acted as an anode and copper rod as consumable cathode. The molten bath temperature was 1193 K. Cathode current density was 20 A/cm ̄2. The contents of yttrium, barium and copper in alloy were about 20wt%, 9 wt% and 71 wt% respectively. Yttrium recovery efficiency was 90 wt%. The current efficiency was 70%~80 %. 展开更多

The Dy-Co alloys form at first and then the intermetallic compoundsof Dy-Co containing more dysprosium form in sequence. The metallic dysprosium deposits at last. Thenumber of Dy-Co alloy was tested. The standard free energies of formation of Dy_2Co_(17), Dy_2Co_7, DyCo_3were calculated to be -60. 8, -34. 6 and -34 . 2 kJ·mol ̄(-1), respectively, at 1073 K. The relationshipbetween diffusion coefficient and temperature of dysprosium atom in Dy_2Co_917) alloy phase can be expressedas InD = 124. 7 × 10 ̄3/RT-7. 9, the diffusion activation energy is 124. 7 kJ· mol ̄(-1) . Alloys containing up to 12 mass% Si and 2.6 mass% Ti were formed after about 90 min of electrolysis at 950℃. The current efficiency for the preparation of the Al Si Ti alloys varied with time, temperature and cathodic current density.
