It proceeds to examine various dilemmas involved in communicating with others via social media tools. Historic boundary issues between students and faculty are discussed, as well as emerging dilemmas that are becoming prevalent within electronic communicative networks (e.g., Skype, Facebook, Myspace, Linkedln, Twitter, and Texting). The need for policy guidelines within academic environments in the use of social media is emphasized, Similar to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, Arizona State University (ASU) is cited as a model in providing some structure regarding staff responsibility and unethical conduct within its academic setting. An enhancement of these guidelines to include electronic communication is recommended. Guidance is necessary to promote responsible communication, as the right to privacy, freedom of speech, and anonymity are all illusions of invulnerability.展开更多
In order to achieve higher accuracy and lower cost of indoor localization,we propose a positioning method using multiple input and multiple output(MIMO)channel state information(CSI)as a fingerprint.The method can be ...In order to achieve higher accuracy and lower cost of indoor localization,we propose a positioning method using multiple input and multiple output(MIMO)channel state information(CSI)as a fingerprint.The method can be divided into three stages,feature extraction,offline training and online localization.In the feature extraction,the segmented average and principal component analysis(PCA)are used to reduce the data dimension and decrease system complexity.In the offline training,the deep neural network(NN)model is trained to implement the position classification.In the online localization,the data are input into the trained NN model first,and then its output is further processed by weighted k-nearest neighbor(WKNN)technology to estimate the position.Experimental results show that the proposed method can significantly reduce the positioning error compared to other methods and the average error is 1.39m in a complex indoor environment.展开更多

The retained communication data or the communication logs are used in various appli...Electronic communication service providers are obliged to retain communication data for a certain amount of time by their local laws. The retained communication data or the communication logs are used in various applications such as crime detection, viral marketing, analytical study, and so on. Many of these applications rely on effective techniques for analyzing communication logs. In this paper, we focus on measuring the proximity between two communication entities, which is a fundamental and important step toward further analysis of communication logs, and propose a new proximity measure called ESP (Efficient and Spam-Robust Proximity measure). Our proposed measure considers only the (graph- theoretically) shortest paths between two entities and gives small values to those between spam-like entities and others. Thus, it is not only computationally efficient but also spam-robust. By conducting several experiments on real and synthetic datasets, we show that our proposed proximity measure is more accurate, computationally efficient and spam-robust than the existing measures in most cases.展开更多

Here we report the intrinsic visible emission of nonaromatic amin...Nonaromatic amino acids are generally believed to be nonemissive, owing to their lack of apparently remarkable conjugation within individual molecules. Here we report the intrinsic visible emission of nonaromatic amino acids and poly(amino acids) in concentrated solutions and solid powders. This unique and widespread luminescent characteristic can be well rationalized by the clustering-triggered emission(CTE) mechanism, namely the clustering of nonconventional chromophores(i.e. amino, carbonyl,and hydroxyl) and subsequent electron cloud overlap with simultaneous conformation rigidification. Such CTE mechanism is further supported by the single crystal structure analysis, from which 3 D through space electronic communications are uncovered.Besides prompt fluorescence, room temperature phosphorescence(RTP) is also detected from the solids. Moreover, persistent RTP is observed in the powders of exampled poly(amino acids) of ε-poly-L-lysine(.-PLL) after ceasing UV irradiation. These results not only illustrate the feasibility of employing the building blocks of nonaromatic amino acids in the exploration of new luminescent biomolecules, but also provide significant implications for the emissions of peptides and proteins at aggregated or crystalline states. Meanwhile, they may also shed lights on further understanding of autofluorescence from biological systems.展开更多

These allenylidene complexes were derived from 9-ethynyl-9-fluorenol and 9-hydroxy-9-ethynyl-4,5-diaza...A variety of rigid ruthenium and osmium allenylidene, ruthenium alkynyl-allenylidene complexes have been prepared. These allenylidene complexes were derived from 9-ethynyl-9-fluorenol and 9-hydroxy-9-ethynyl-4,5-diazafluorene in the presence of cis-OsCl2(dppm)2 and cis-RuCl2(dppe)2. The respective products have been fully characterized by 1H, 13C, 31P NMR spectrometry, IR spectrometry, elemental analysis, and UV/Vis spectrophotometry. Moreover, electrochemical studies reveal that the dinuclear complexes display a quasi-reversible redox behavior and a moderate electronic communication between the two metal centers in 8a. UV–vis studies show a remarkable absorption in the region (λmax = 300-700 nm) for these complexes.展开更多

E-tendering can be defined as the issue and receipt of tender documentation through electronic means which facilitates the procurement of construction work and the award of contracts. The current paper-based method of...E-tendering can be defined as the issue and receipt of tender documentation through electronic means which facilitates the procurement of construction work and the award of contracts. The current paper-based method of tendering has been commonplace within the industry for a significant number of years, but with recent technological advancements, this traditional process is rapidly becoming outdated. Several major projects within the UK are now being procured through the e-tendering process which includes the multibillion pound development for the Olympic Games in London 2012. However, while these prestigious projects are embracing e-tendering technology, it is not certain as to what extent e-tendering is used across the construction sector generally. This research is primarily concerned with establishing the current status, practicalities and resource effectiveness of e-tendering within UK construction. Results are provided from an in-dustry survey which includes both quantitative and qualitative data. A case study implementation is also in-cluded which assesses the utilisation of e-tendering software in practice. The research findings indicated that e-tendering can provide substantial resource savings to a major part of the supply chain, with the key benefits being enhanced communication, time savings and reduced costs. However, a considerable proportion of the industry remains uncertain about embracing new technologies, with reluctance to change being perceived as the greatest barrier. The findings suggest that many professionals within the UK construction industry recognise a requirement for increased implementation of e-tendering, but feel that training, education and support from senior management are essential requirements for e-tendering to become widely accepted in the future.展开更多
