With the increasing popularity of solid sate lighting devices, Visible Light Communication (VLC) is globally recognized as an advanced and promising technology to realize short-range, high speed as well as large capacity wireless data transmission. In this paper, we propose a prototype of real-time audio and video broadcast system using inexpensive commercially available light emitting diode (LED) lamps. Experimental results show that real-time high quality audio and video with the maximum distance of 3 m can be achieved through proper layout of LED sources and improvement of concentration effects. Lighting model within room environment is designed and simulated which indicates close relationship between layout of light sources and distribution of illuminance. 展开更多

In this paper, a novel Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for industrial Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) is proposed and studied. The main challenge in industry automation systems is the ultra-low network latency with a target upper bound in the order of 1 ms while maintaining high network reliability and availability. The novelty of the proposed wireless MAC protocol resides in its similar latency performance as its counterpart in wired industrial LAN. First, the functional design of the MAC protocol is introduced. Then its performance results gained from hardware implementation (SystemC and VHDL) on an FPGA platform are presented. Finally, a real-time communication module which achieves the ultra-low latency required in industrial automation is described. 展开更多

Communication behavior recognition is an issue with increasingly importance in the antiterrorism and national defense area.However,the sensing data obtained in actual environment is often not sufficient to accurately analyze the communication behavior.Traditional means can hardly utilize the scarce and crude spectrum sensing data captured in a real scene.Thus,communication behavior recognition using raw sensing data under smallsample condition has become a new challenge.In this paper,a data enhanced communication behavior recognition(DECBR)scheme is proposed to meet this challenge.Firstly,a preprocessing method is designed to make the raw spectrum data suitable for the proposed scheme.Then,an adaptive convolutional neural network structure is exploited to carry out communication behavior recognition.Moreover,DCGAN is applied to support data enhancement,which realize communication behavior recognition under small-sample condition.Finally,the scheme is verified by experiments under different data size.The results show that the DECBR scheme can greatly improve the accuracy and efficiency of behavior recognition under smallsample condition. 展开更多

In this paper, we conduct research on the security enhancement model of communication system based on the chaotic encryption and analytic hierarchy process. The communication of the information network is completed by the communication protocol. The communication protocol can be divided into application layer, transport layer, network layer, link layer and physical layer. By using the communication protocol, the security control of the network communication can meet the needs of the information network security communication. This paper integrates the chaos system to further implement the robust system architecture. The algorithm of this paper tries to make the maximum value of the above three parameters in each iteration step by step and the output feedback to dynamically change these parameters. Compared with other algorithms, our method can adopt more related theories to perform the better result. 展开更多

Subsurface mooring allows researchers to measure the ocean properties such as water temperature,salinity,and velocity at several depths of the water column for a long period.Traditional subsurface mooring can release data only after recovered,which constrains the usage of the subsurface and deep layer data in the ocean and climate predictions.Recently,we developed a new real-time subsurface mooring(RTSM).Velocity profiles over upper 1000 m depth and layered data from sensors up to 5000 m depth can be realtime transmitted to the small surface buoy through underwater acoustic communication and then to the office through Beidou or Iridium satellite.To verify and refine their design and data transmission process,we deployed more than 30 sets of RTSMs in the western Pacific to do a 1-year continuous run during 2016–2018.The continuous running period of RTSM in a 1-year cycle can reach more than 260 days on average,and more than 95%of observed data can be successfully transmitted back to the office.Compared to the widely-used inductive coupling communication,wireless acoustic communication has been shown more applicable to the underwater sensor network with large depth intervals and long transmission distance to the surface. 展开更多

In this paper,we demonstrate a high-sensitivity and real-time heterodyne coherent optical transceiver for intraplane satellite communication,without digital-to-analog converter(DAC)devices and an optical phase lock loop(OPLL).Based on the scheme,a real-time sensitivity of-49 dBm is achieved at 5 Gbps QPSK.Because DAC is not needed at the transmitter,as well as OPLL at the receiver,this reduces the system cost.Furthermore,the least required Rx ADC bit-width is also discussed.Through theoretical analysis and experimental results,our cost-effective transceiver satisfies the scenario and could be a promising component for future application. 展开更多

Digital twins and the physical assets of electric power systems face the potential risk of data loss and monitoring failures owing to catastrophic events,causing surveillance and energy loss.This study aims to refine maintenance strategies for the monitoring of an electric power digital twin system post disasters.Initially,the research delineates the physical electric power system along with its digital counterpart and post-disaster restoration processes.Subsequently,it delves into communication and data processing mechanisms,specifically focusing on central data processing(CDP),communication routers(CRs),and phasor measurement units(PMUs),to re-establish an equipment recovery model based on these data transmission methodologies.Furthermore,it introduces a mathematical optimization model designed to enhance the digital twin system’s post-disaster monitoring efficacy by employing the branch-and-bound method for its resolution.The efficacy of the proposed model was corroborated by analyzing an IEEE-14 system.The findings suggest that the proposed branch-and-bound algorithm significantly augments the observational capabilities of a power system with limited resources,thereby bolstering its stability and emergency response mechanisms. 展开更多

In many wireless sensor network applications, it should be considered that how to trade off the inherent conflict between energy efficient communication and desired quality of service such as real-time and reliability of transportation. In this paper, a novel routing protocols named balance energy-efficient and real-time with reliable communication (BERR) for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are proposed, which considers the joint performances of real-time, energy efficiency and reliability. In BERR, a node, which is preparing to transmit data packets to sink node, estimates the energy cost, hop count value to sink node and reliability using local information gained from neighbor nodes. BERR considers not only each sender' energy level but also that of its neighbor nodes, so that the better energy conditions a node has, the more probability it will be to be chosen as the next relay node. To enhance real-time delivery, it will choose the node with smaller hop count value to sink node as the possible relay candidate. To improve reliability, it adopts retransmission mechanism. Simulation results show that BERR has better performances in term of energy consumption, network lifetime, reliability and small transmitting delay. 展开更多

Tampering,forgery and theft of the measurement and control messages in a smart grid could cause one breakdown in the power system.However,no security measures are employed for communications in intelligent substations.Communication services in an intelligent substation have high demands for real-time performance,which must be considered when deploying security measures.This paper studies the security requirements of communication services in intelligent substations,analyzes the security capabilities and shortages of IEC 62351,and proposes a novel security scheme for intelligent substation communications.This security scheme covers internal and telecontrol communications,in which the real-time performance of each security measure is considered.In this scheme,certificateless public key cryptography(CLPKC)is used to avoid the latency of certificate exchange in certificate-based cryptosystem and the problem of key escrow in identity-based cryptosystem;the security measures of generic object-oriented substation event,sampled measure value and manufacturing message specification in IEC 62351 are improved to meet the real-time requirements of the messages as well as to provide new security features to resist repudiation and replay attacks;and the security at transport layer is modified to fit CLPKC,which implements mutual authentication by exchanging signatures.Furthermore,a deployment of CLPKC in an intelligent substation is presented.We also evaluate the security properties of the scheme and analyze the end-to-end delays of secured services by combining theoretical calculation and simulation in this paper.The results indicate that the proposed scheme meets the requirements of security and real-time performance of communications in intelligent substations. 展开更多

Highly selective and remotely communicable nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))sensing may contribute to future Internet of Things in environmental monitoring.However,room-temperature NO_(2)sensing materials such as carbon materials is still less than satisfactory due to their insensitive interaction with target gas.Here,polyethylene imine functionalized three-dimensional(3D)carbon framework(PEI/C framework)has been developed for enhanced selective NO_(2)sensing,via combined template synthesis and subsequent doping.Typically,the 3D PEI/C framework is observed porous shape with irregular coating.Beneficially,the response of C framework to NO_(2)increases while those of interfering gases decrease after being functionalized with PEI.Remarkably,the sensor prototypes show a 100 ppb-concentration detection limit at room temperature.Theoretically,such excellent NO_(2)sensing is attributed to the large specific surface ratio of porous 3D PEI/C framework,in which PEI serves as an active layer for target NO_(2),while a passivated one for interfering gases.Practically,such PEI/C framework sensor prototype is simulated for NO_(2)sensing device and communicated with a smartphone,showing great potential in future intelligent environmental monitoring. 展开更多

Communication networks rely on time synchronization information generated by base station equipment(either the Global Navigation Satellite System receiver or rubidium atomic clock) to enable wireless networking and communications. Meanwhile, the time synchronization among base stations depends on the Network Time Protocol. With the development of mobile communication systems, the corresponding time synchronization accuracy has increased as well. In this case, the use of sparsely distributed-high-precision synchronization points to synchronize time for an entire network with high precision is a key problem and is the foundation of the enhanced network communication. The current receiver equipment for China's digital synchronous network typically includes dedicated multi-channel GPS receivers for communication; however, with the development of GPS by the USA, network security has been destabilized and reliability is low. Nonetheless, network time synchronization based on Beidou satellite navigation system timing devices is an inevitable development trend for China's digital communications network with the establishment of the independently developed BDS, especially the implementation and improvement of the Beidou foundation enhancement system. 展开更多

Puncturing has been recognized as a promising technology to cope with the coexistence problem of enhanced mobile broadband(eMBB) and ultra-reliable low latency communications(URLLC)traffic. However, the steady performance of eMBB traffic while meeting the requirements of URLLC traffic with puncturing is a major challenge in some realistic scenarios. In this paper, we pay attention to the timely and energy-efficient processing for eMBB traffic in the industrial Internet of Things(IIoT), where mobile edge computing(MEC) is employed for data processing. Specifically, the performance of eMBB traffic and URLLC traffic in a MEC-based IIoT system is ensured by setting the threshold of tolerable delay and outage probability, respectively. Furthermore,considering the limited energy supply, an energy minimization problem of eMBB device is formulated under the above constraints, by jointly optimizing the resource blocks(RBs) punctured by URLLC traffic, data offloading and transmit power of eMBB device. With Markov's inequality, the problem is reformulated by transforming the probabilistic outage constraint into a deterministic constraint. Meanwhile, an iterative energy minimization algorithm(IEMA) is proposed.Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm has a significant reduction in the energy consumption for eMBB device and achieves a better overall effect compared to several benchmarks. 展开更多

An adaptive filter for cancelling noise contained in the direct absorption spectra is reported. This technique takes advantage of the periodical nature of the repetitively scanned spectral signal, and requires no prior knowledge of the detailed properties of noises. An experimental system devised for measuring CH4 is used to test the performance of the filter. The measurement results show that the signal-to-noise (S/N) value is improved by a factor of 2. A higher enhancement factor of the S/N value of 5.4 is obtained through open-air measurement owing to higher distortions of the raw data. In addition, the response time of this filter, which characterizes the real-time detection ability of the system, is nine times shorter than that of a conventional signal averaging solution, under the condition that the filter order is 100. 展开更多

Background:Determining the Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection state during the gastroscopic process is important but still challenging. The linked color imaging (LCI) technique might emphasize the mucosal color change after H. pylori infection, which might help the diagnosis. In the present study, we aimed to compare the LCI technique with traditional white light imaging (WLI) endoscopy for diagnosing active H. pylori infection.Methods:We collected and analyzed gastroscopic images from 103 patients in our hospital from November 2017 to March 2018, including both LCI and WLI modes. All images were randomly disordered and independently evaluated by four endoscopists who were blinded to the H. pylori status of patients. In addition, the H. pylori state was determined by both rapid urease test and pathology staining. The sensitivity, specificity, positive prediction value (PPV), and negative prediction value (NPV) were calculated for the detection of H. pylori infection. Moreover, the kappa value and interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were used to evaluate the inter-observer variety by SPSS 24.0 software.Results:Of the 103 enrolled patients, 27 of them were positive for H. pylori infection, while the 76 patients were negative. In total, 388 endoscopic images were selected, including 197 WLI and 191 LCI. The accuracy rate for H. pylori evaluation in the corpus LCI group was significantly higher than other groups (81.2% vs. 64.3%-76.5%, χ2 = 34.852, P < 0.001). Moreover, the corpus LCI group had the optimal diagnostic power with the sensitivity of 85.41% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 76.40%-91.51%), the specificity of 79.71% (95% CI: 74.38%-84.19%), the PPV of 59.42% (95% CI: 50.72%-67.59%), and the NPV of 94.02% (95% CI: 89.95%-96.56%), respectively. The kappa values between different endoscopists were higher with LCI than with WLI (0.433-0.554 vs. 0.331-0.554). Consistently, the ICC value was also higher with LCI than with WLI (0.501 [95% CI: 0.429-0.574] vs. 0.397 [95% CI: 0.323-0.474]). We further analyzed the factors that might lead to misjudgment, revealing that active inflammation might disturb WLI judgment (accuracy rate: 58.70% vs. 76.16%, χ2 = 21.373, P < 0.001). Atrophy and intestinal metaplasia might affect the accuracy of the LCI results (accuracy rate: 66.96% vs. 73.47%, χ2 = 2.027;68.42% vs. 73.53 %, χ2 = 1.594, respectively);however, without statistical significance (P = 0.154 and 0.207, respectively).Conclusions:The application of LCI at the corpus to identify H. pylori infection is reliable and superior to WLI. The inter-observer variability is lower with LCI than with WLI. 展开更多
