Comparison of environmental responding strategies between Ulva prolifera and Sargassum horneri:an in-situ study during the co-occurrence of green tides and golden tides in the Yellow Sea,China in 2017

Large-scale green tides in the Yellow Sea occurred for 13 consecutive years since 2007.The unusual co-occurrence of green tides and golden tides occurred in the Yellow Sea in 2017.The causative species are Ulva prolifera and/or Sargassum horneri.Previous studies on physiological response characteristics of U.prolifera and S.horneri are done in the laboratory mainly,and there is no in-situ comparative study in this regard.In this study,the in-situ physiological response characteristics of both species were measured.The results indicated that cyclic electron flow and antioxidant system play more important roles in protecting U.prolifera,while non-photochemical quenching is more important for adapting to the environment in S.horneri.U.prolifera has a stronger ability to utilize nutrients to rapidly increase its biomass under a suitable condition compared to S.horneri.

Are Environmental Vanguard Firms More Proactive Towards Environmental Conservation?An Empirical Study of Power Sector Firms in India

Environmental protection is a crucial issue for environmentalists and researchers.Almost every stakeholder in the industrial production process of a product is concerned about the detrimental effects on the environment due to emissions.Though environmental regulations are in place,some firms across diverse industrial sectors are considered as the environmental vanguard,i.e.,leaders in environmental protection.Does being environmental vanguard result in environmental proactivity?This paper,through an empirical study of Indian power sector firms,studies the environmental proactivity of the firms who are known to be leaders in the adoption of environmental protection norms.A questionnaire-based survey method is used to analyse the responses statistically.The study uses 280 responses for the analysis of the data.Eight hypotheses are proposed and tested statistically through Structural Equation Modelling(SEM).The statistical analysis reveals that the firms who are environmental vanguard are more proactive towards environmental protection.The findings of the study can be useful for the policymakers and environmental managers in the formulation of policies which can be considered as a benchmark for the firms for the protection of the environment.

Study on Environmental Health Strategy after Earthquake

The first task in prevention of diseases after an earthquake is to quickly provide an adequate source of safe drinking water.Otherwise,the incidence of infectious intestinal diseases in the disaster area residents will increase rapidly.Additional health measures,such as disinfecting drinking water,protecting the water source,and treating disaster area residents,must be taken at the same time.The sensory test of meat is a useful index of meat decomposition levels.Corpse alkali is a kind of toxic chemical,and personal protective measures must be taken in handling corpses.In general,all of these measures are important not only for achieving the goal of“no severe epidemic after strong earthquake disaster”in the affected areas,but also for enriching knowledge of disaster medicine.1989 Academic Press.Inc.

Monitoring and simulation of water,heat,and CO_2 fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems based on the APEIS-FLUX system

The Integrated Environmental Monitoring (IEM) project, part of the Asia-Pacific Environmental Innovation Strategy (APEIS) project, developed an integrated environmental monitoring system that can be used to detect, monitor, and assess environmental disasters, degradation, and their impacts in the Asia-Pacific region. The system primarily employs data from the moderate resolution imaging spectrometer (MODIS) sensor on the Earth Observation System-(EOS-) Terra/Aqua satellite, as well as those from ground observations at five sites in different ecological systems in China. From the preliminary data analysis on both annual and daily variations of water, heat and CO2 fluxes, we can confirm that this system basically has been working well. The results show that both latent flux and CO2 flux are much greater in the crop field than those in the grassland and the saline desert, whereas the sensible heat flux shows the opposite trend. Different data products from MODIS have very different correspondence, e.g. MODIS-derived land surface temperature has a close correlation with measured ones, but LAI and NPP are quite different from ground measurements, which suggests that the algorithms used to process MODIS data need to be revised by using the local dataset. We are now using the APEIS-FLUX data to develop an integrated model, which can simulate the regional water, heat, and carbon fluxes. Finally, we are expected to use this model to develop more precise high-order MODIS products in Asia-Pacific region.

Green managerial practices and green performance:A serial mediation model

This study examines the influence of green supply chain management(GSCM)practices and green culture on green performance in the manufacturing sector through the mediating effect of proactive environmental strategy(PES)and green product innovation(GPI).A quantitative approach was followed,and partial least squares structural equation modeling(PLS-SEM)was used for hypothesis testing.A questionnaire was used to collect data,and 663 questionnaires were included in the final analysis.Contrary to our expectations,the results showed that GscM practices do not influence green performance,whereas green culture is positively related to green performance.The results show that PES and GPI explain the relationship between GSCM practices,green culture,and green performance.PES and GPI sequentially mediated GSCM practices,green culture,and green performance.Moreover,PES and GPI significantly improved green performance.This study aims to extend the scholarly appreciation of GscM practices and the impact of green culture on green performance by examining the mediating effects of PES and GPI on these relationships.The implications and future research avenues are also discussed.
