Design and evaluation of UHPP steel bridge deck pavement for high-temperature and rainy regions

To enhance the serviceability of steel bridge deck pavement(SBDP)in high-temperature and rainy regions,a concept of rigid bottom and flexible top was summarized using engineering practices,which led to the proposal of a three-layer ultra-high-performance pavement(UHPP).The high-temperature rutting resistance and wet-weather skid resistance of UHPP were evaluated through composite structure tests.The internal temperature distribution within the pavement under typical high-temperature conditions was analyzed using a temperature field model.Additionally,a temperature-stress coupling model was employed to investigate the key load positions and stress response characteristics of the UHPP.The results indicate that compared with the traditional guss asphalt+stone mastic asphalt structure,the dynamic stability of the UHPP composite structure can be improved by up to 20.4%.Even under cyclic loading,UHPP still exhibits superior surface skid resistance compared to two traditional SBDPs.The thickness composition of UHPP significantly impacts its rutting resistance and skid resistance.UHPP exhibits relatively low tensile stress but higher shear stress levels,with the highest shear stress occurring between the UHPP and the steel plate.This suggests that the potential risk of damage for UHPP primarily lies within the interlayer of the pavement.Based on engineering examples,introducing interlayer gravel and optimizing the amount of bonding layer are advised to ensure that UHPP possesses sufficient interlayer shear resistance. 展开更多

In order to improve the surface performace of epoxy asphalt pavement (EAP) for steel bridge deck, an epoxy asphalt chip seal ( ECS) covered by a cationic emulsified asphalt fog seal (i. e., fog-sealed chip seal) isproposed and a laboratory study is conducted to design and evaluate te fog-sealed chip seal. First, the evaluation indices and methods of te chip seal on steel bridge deck pavement were proposed. Secondly, the worst pavement conditions during te maintenance time were simulated by te small traffic load simulation system MMLS3 and the short-term aging test for minimizing the failure probability of chip seal. Finally, the design parameters of fog-sealed chip seal were determined by the experimental analysis and the performance of the designed fog-sealed chip seal was evaluated in thelaboratory. Results indicate that the proposed simulation method of pavement conditions is effective and the maximal load repetitions on the EAPslab specimen are approximately 925 300 times. Moreover, the designed fog-sealedchip sealcan provide a dense surface with sufficient skid resistance,aggregate-asphalt aahesive performance and interlayer shearing resistance. 展开更多

As an important part of steel bridge deck,the engineering quality and service condition of steel bridge deck pavement(SBDP)directly affects the capacity and operational efficiency of the bridge.This paper reviews the history of the development of SBDP in China over the past 20 years from the exploration stage,rapid development stage and prosperity stage.The development and application of SBDP at different stages are discussed in terms of materials,structure,design,performance evaluation,maintenance and rehabilitation,respectively.The advantages and disadvantages of different pavement materials and structures,and the application of different research methods are summarized.The review shows that the improvement of pavement materials and structures and the development of new materials should be further studied on the multi-scale to enhance the durability of pavement materials,so as to extend the service life of pavements.The design method of SBDP related to the synergistic effect of vehicle,pavement and bridge should be established,and the design concept and method standard of rigid base pavement structure should be improved and formulate a complete design standard.In addition,multi-disease intelligent identification system and equipment should be studied to track the entire course of disease development in real time.And it is necessary to develop appropriate algorithms to select and classify the complex data of disease and maintenance history. 展开更多

To investigate the fatigue damage of epoxy asphalt pavement(EAP)under a heavy load and a d temperature load,the load-figure of the heavy load on the steel bridge deck pavement(SBDP)was simulated first,and the temperature distribution of SBDP during the temperature-fall period in winter was also calculated.Secondly,t e moving heavy load coupled W t the most unfavorable temperatre load was applied to the SBDP,and the tensile stress on the top of SBDP was calculated.Finally,the fatigue damage of EAP was evaluated considering the extreme situation of heavily overloaded and severe environments.The results show that botte heavy load and the temperature load during t e temperature-fall period c n increase the tensile stress on the top of SBDP significantly.In the exteme situation of heavily overloaded and severe environments,a fatigue crack is easily generated,and thus the SBDP should avoid t e coupling effects of the heavy loadand the temperature load in winter. 展开更多

The section weight coefficient of different distress is proposed by analyzing the applicability of the “Highway Performance Assessment Standards”. Indexes mainly including SDPCI PDR and PCR are presented to evaluate its distress condition. The evaluation system and maintenance plan decision tree were recommended which can assist scientific maintenance of epoxy asphalt steel deck pavement. 展开更多

A model for predicting the interface behavior of epoxy asphalt and steel composite beam under negative bending is developed incorporating partial interaction theory. Interfacial slips between the steel deck and the epoxy asphalt surfacing are included in the model with a new parameter of membrane stiffness. A series of analytical equations based on this model are derived to calculate slip and strain at the interface. Also, a numerical procedure for calculating the load responses of simply supported composite beams with concentrated force at the mid-span is established and verified with two samples. Characters of slip and strain at the interface, sensitivities of tensile stress and interface shear stress with material parameters are studied. It can be concluded that interfacial effects decrease the bending stiffness of the composite; hard and stiff bonding material is better for asphalt surfacing layer working at normal to low temperatures, and the damage of the asphalt surfacing layer will be accelerated with the damage accumulation of the bonding coat. 展开更多

The high temperature anti-rutting performance,water stability and low temperature bending property of epoxy asphalt mixture with 0%,15%,25%,40%,and 70% granulated and circular lightweight aggregates by weight are tested,respectively.The dynamic responses under the vehicle load and in the opening process are analyzed to obtain the mechanical responses of pavements by using the finite element method.The complicated structure including a steel deck and a waterproof adhesive layer is made to verify the bond strength of the 2451-type epoxy asphalt binder.Research results show that the epoxy asphalt mixtures with lightweight aggregate replacement percentages from 0% to 70% all satisfy the requirements for steel bridge pavements.The epoxy asphalt mixture with a 70% circular lightweight aggregate replacement percentage is recommended because of its smaller density when compared with other epoxy asphalt mixtures.The shear stress increases with the increase in the opening angle and achieves its maximum at the maximum opening angle of 85°.Test results show that the Tianjin Bascule Bridge can be used for first opening after a 3 d pavement conditioning. 展开更多

Based on four-year field inspection and investigation on deck pavement of mastic asphalt on Jiangyin Bridge, cracking causes of mastic asphalt are studied. Cracks of deck pavement are summarized on crack length and width to get a clear view of their propagations. Traffic surveys including traffic volume, axle load and vehicle speed were also conducted to assess their influences. Samples taken on-site were tested with pulling-out test and fatigue test to benchmark their properties. According to the inspection and tests results, it is concluded that the cracks are induced by rutting and fatigue. Lack of fatigue resistance, not well bonded to the steel deck and insufficient high temperature stability are supposed to be the main reasons as well as high density of low speed, excessively overloaded trucks. 展开更多

An index system of steel deck pavement design is proposed according to the study and classification of failure types. Furthermore the axle-equivalent equation is presented according to the fatigue principle of pavement structures. Based on indoor experiments and theoretical analysis, this paper studies the stress characteristics of three different axle types which are corresponding with the other three typical pavement structures, and also presents the parameters of each axle's equivalent formula. The three axle types include single-axle single-wheel, single-axle double-wheel and double-axle double-wheel. According to analyses of influential factors such as climate, environment, traffic and stress condition, the developed axle equivalent formula and the parameters modified by the field test data can be applied in the design of a new bridge deck pavement and the assessment of an existing bridge deck pavement. 展开更多

The corrosion of the anticorrosion coating and the defects of the asphalt concrete paved layer have been investigated on long-span steel box bridge decks. The anticorrosion coating lies in the midclle of two entirely different materials: a highway steel box bridge deck and a paved layer, which is used as anticorrosion and waterproof coating for the steel bridge deck. For our study, electrochemical corrosion and pull strength experiments have been selected for the investigation of the corrosion properties of inorganic zinc rich coating, epoxy zinc rich coating and arc sprayed zinc coating. The adhesive strength between the coatings and the panel, and the effect of the coating corrosion on the shear properties of the paved layers including cast asphalt, thermal asphalt mortar, epoxy asphalt and modified asphalt con- crete have been investigated. The results show that the adhesive strength between the coatings and the bridge panel is controlled by the method of pre-processing rust removal. Coating by sandblasting has stronger adhesive strength than coating by shot peening. The results also reveal that shear strength of the paved layer is affected by the corrosion product of zinc coating. The arc sprayed zinc coating has stronger shear strength than zinc rich coatings. 展开更多

Based on the analysis of the main failures discovered in pavement on steel deck plate and the demanding service condition of the pavement on steel deck, high-temperature rutting test, low-temperature bending test and controlled stress flexural fatigue test are used to study the performance of asphalt mixtures modified by epoxy resin including high-temperature stability, low-temperature cracking-resistance, and fatigue cracking-resistance, which are served to evaluate the modification effect of epoxy resin of different contents. With the addition of epoxy resin, all the three performances are improved greatly. However, when the amount of epoxy resin added is over a certain value, the modification effect will be stable with no extra benefit detected. Finally, in terms of the properties of the three respects, 20%, 30%, 30% are given separately as the proposal adding contents. 展开更多

With the continuous development of bridge and tunnel construction technologies,large-scale sea-crossing bridges and tunnels have gradually become the preferred choice for regional traffic.The construction technology of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge(HZMB),one of the most representative sea-crossing passageways,is instructive for the construction of other large sea-crossing infrastructures.At present,the pavement design method of sea-crossing passageways lacks pertinence as it still refers to specifications for design of common pavement.Therefore,it is necessary to consider the bridge and tunnel pavement of HZMB as a typical example to analyze key technical problems encountered in its design,construction and operation.Novel solutions for material selection and structural design built upon the analysis of such critical problems should thus follow up.Based on comprehensive literature research,it can be found that environmental variability,tunnel closure,structural differential settlement and expansion deformation are the key technical problems faced by pavement of sea-crossing passageways.In view of the environmental variability,the steel deck-paving material and structure design of GMA-10 t SMA-13 is innovatively proposed.As for the closure of immersed tube tunnel,warm-mix flame retardant asphalt mixture is used to control pavement design through key indexes such as temperature and limit oxygen index.Regarding the deformation of immersed pipe joints,BJ200 asphalt seamless expansion joint material is introduced,which effectively satisfies the multi-directional deformation between pipe joints and ensures the smoothness of the road surface and driving comfort.For segmental joints,double-layer waterproof-coiled material is used to effectively prevent reflective cracks while ensuring the continuity of asphalt concrete pavement.Therefore,this paper provides a panel of ideas and methods for the pavement design of the same type of sea-crossing passageways. 展开更多

为了量化钢桥面铺装体系的碳排放量,应用基于过程的生命周期评价方法分析了钢桥面铺装体系的生命周期碳足迹.从材料生产、施工建造、运营管理、维修养护、废弃处置和运输6个过程构建了钢桥面铺装体系碳排放的生命周期清单数据库,采用国... 为了量化钢桥面铺装体系的碳排放量,应用基于过程的生命周期评价方法分析了钢桥面铺装体系的生命周期碳足迹.从材料生产、施工建造、运营管理、维修养护、废弃处置和运输6个过程构建了钢桥面铺装体系碳排放的生命周期清单数据库,采用国际平整度指数建立铺装层行驶质量衰减下的碳排放预估模型,利用SMUO仿真软件进行交通延误仿真获取相关参数以建立交通延误的碳排放模型,建立了相应的碳足迹量化框架和模型,同时对下层EA(环氧)+上层SMA(沥青玛蹄脂)典型铺装体系进行了实例分析.结果表明,维修养护和运营管理阶段贡献了碳排放总量的近80%,交通延误导致的额外碳排放约达到了碳排放总量的24%,固化剂、喷砂除锈等材料或施工工艺也分别贡献了碳排放总量的8.11%和5.42%. 展开更多

浇注式沥青混合料密水性、协调变形能力及耐久性优,而环氧沥青混合料的强度及高温抗重载能力极为突出,为实现两种混合料的优势集成,研发了环氧浇注式沥青混合料。对3种来源的热拌环氧沥青进行环氧树脂、热拌环氧沥青力学性能及170℃黏... 浇注式沥青混合料密水性、协调变形能力及耐久性优,而环氧沥青混合料的强度及高温抗重载能力极为突出,为实现两种混合料的优势集成,研发了环氧浇注式沥青混合料。对3种来源的热拌环氧沥青进行环氧树脂、热拌环氧沥青力学性能及170℃黏度试验;在热拌环氧浇注式沥青混合料配合比设计基础上,开展搅拌时长为45,135 min的混合料流动性、马歇尔、贯入度、车辙、弯曲及疲劳性能试验。结果表明,3种环氧树脂和热拌环氧沥青的力学性能基本一致,170℃黏度达1 Pa·s时间在3 h以上;混合料性能随搅拌时长增加衰减较大;环氧沥青类型对除流值和极限弯拉应变外性能指标影响不显著。搅拌45 min的XB环氧浇注式沥青混合料性能最优,流动度<5 s且可施工流动性维持时间在135 min以上,马歇尔稳定度超过48 kN,动稳定度达到18945次/mm,贯入度增量仅0.1 mm,-10℃极限弯拉应变>3000με,疲劳性能指标冲击韧性达到3517 N·mm,各项性能远超常规浇注式沥青混合料,多项指标也超过环氧沥青混合料,同时成本也较低。热拌环氧浇注式沥青混合料较好兼顾了浇注式沥青混合料和热拌环氧沥青的优点,可有效提高浇注式沥青混合料高温强度,对提高我国钢桥面铺装质量及耐久性具有重要意义。 展开更多

This research indicates that epoxy as-phalt concrete is a good type of paving material. Research results have been applied successfully in the paving of steel deck of the Second Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge (SNYRB). 针对混凝土桥面板铺装工程对铺装层材料的性能需求,提出富油型高黏高弹桥面铺装过渡层材料,开发出60℃黏度>70万Pa·s的过渡层材料专用高黏高弹改性沥青,研究了不同油石比、不同级配、不同厚度的过渡层材料与组合结构的服役性能... 针对混凝土桥面板铺装工程对铺装层材料的性能需求,提出富油型高黏高弹桥面铺装过渡层材料,开发出60℃黏度>70万Pa·s的过渡层材料专用高黏高弹改性沥青,研究了不同油石比、不同级配、不同厚度的过渡层材料与组合结构的服役性能规律.结果表明:富油型高黏高弹过渡层材料具备优异的高温、低温,以及水稳定性能,在组合结构的形式中与混凝土桥面板的25℃的剪切强度、拉拔强度分别达到0.98、0.71 MPa.动态荷载下,随着油石比与厚度的提高,组合结构试件的初始裂纹出现、裂缝扩展速度降低,起到阻止裂缝传递与反射的作用,在0.2应力水平下铺装层组合结构疲劳寿命可达到10万次.超薄组合铺装结构服役性能优异,可有效防止铺装层出现推移、拥包、开裂等桥面病害. 展开更多

钢桥面沥青铺装层车辙病害问题日益凸显,已不容忽视。综合近年来钢桥面沥青铺装车辙的研究现状与发展趋势,针对钢桥面沥青铺装层车辙类型与形成机理、车辙预估研究及车辙主要影响因素进行了详细剖析与总结,结果表明:较之于沥青路面,钢... 钢桥面沥青铺装层车辙病害问题日益凸显,已不容忽视。综合近年来钢桥面沥青铺装车辙的研究现状与发展趋势,针对钢桥面沥青铺装层车辙类型与形成机理、车辙预估研究及车辙主要影响因素进行了详细剖析与总结,结果表明:较之于沥青路面,钢桥面沥青铺装层车辙主要为材料抗剪切能力不足引起的流动性车辙,不同铺装材料的车辙形成机理不同;在车辙预估研究方面,以Bailey-Norton与修正Burgers蠕变模型表征高温下铺装材料非线性行为的有限单元法已取得了一定的成果,但仍有诸多需改进之处;国内已形成了以“上层环氧+下层浇注”和“上层SMA+下层浇注”为主流的优良抗车辙性能铺装结构,影响铺装层车辙发展的最主要因素有铺装材料性能、铺装层结构、温度、车辆荷载及施工质量,因此优化铺装材料与结构设计、严控重超载车辆及改善施工工艺质量应为今后延缓铺装层车辙发展的重要措施。研究结果可为钢桥面铺装层的抗车辙设计与后期维养工作提供参考依据。 展开更多

宜宾新市金沙江大桥主桥为(304+680+304)m双塔双索面钢桁梁斜拉桥,采用半飘浮体系,在桥塔横梁顶设置含限位功能的纵向阻尼器,两岸边跨各设置1个辅助墩。桥塔采用宝瓶形钢筋混凝土塔,四川岸和云南岸塔高分别为290.2 m和297.5 m,由上、中... 宜宾新市金沙江大桥主桥为(304+680+304)m双塔双索面钢桁梁斜拉桥,采用半飘浮体系,在桥塔横梁顶设置含限位功能的纵向阻尼器,两岸边跨各设置1个辅助墩。桥塔采用宝瓶形钢筋混凝土塔,四川岸和云南岸塔高分别为290.2 m和297.5 m,由上、中、下塔柱和上、中、下横梁及下塔柱横向连接隔板组成。主梁采用钢桁梁与钢-混组合桥面板的板桁结合型式,主桁横向中心距28 m,桁高6.8 m,标准节间长6.8 m,上、下弦杆与腹杆呈“N”形布置,采用焊接整体节点。桥面板采用钢-混组合桥面板。斜拉索采用环氧喷涂钢绞线体系,疲劳应力幅280 MPa,斜拉索在主桁上采用锚拉板锚固方式,在桥塔上采用钢锚梁锚固方式。采用桥面全回转吊机进行主桁、横桁单元件安装;钢-混组合桥面板滞后主梁2个节段施工。 展开更多
