A 35-Year-Old Man Presenting Sleep-Related Painful Erections (Erpes): A Case Report and Review of Literature

Introduction: Erectile episodes occurring in the night time are considered normal and are usually related to the REM sleep. Spontaneous painful erections are unusual but they can have a great impact in the patient’s quality of sleep and, for consequence, quality of life. Report: We present a patient who has been presenting painful erections which wake him up almost every night. We discuss the workup and treatment offered to the patient, as well as the short-time response and two months follow-up. Discussion: Although studies still do not explain this relationship, nocturnal erections occur only during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which can be confirmed by polysomnography accompanied by Nocturnal Penile Tumescence testing or RigiScan test. However, diagnosis can be established based exclusively on clinical aspects. Based on all literature reviewed, the initial treatment should safely consist in improvement in sleep architecture and pelvis muscles relaxation. Conclusion: After the first suspicion, polysomnography with rigidity measurements of nocturnal erections should be considered although clinical diagnosis and therapeutic test may be acceptable. The management we suggest is usually effective, well tolerated and sustained.

On Erection of Shiplock Miter Gate

The extreme large miter gates of TGP permanent shiplock are of great difficulty in erection,in view of the stringent requirement of precision control and the complicated components.The major erection problems,such as the erection measurement control, the selection of erection position of gate leaf,welding and deformation manipulation,the erection of back tie rods,the installation of apex pintle and prestressing anchorages,etc., had been carefully deliberated, and the optimized approaches were adopted.The erection practice of the miter gate at No.1 lock head shows that the adopted erection technology is safe,reliable and effective, and it may be used for reference for similar miter gates.

Discussion on Construction and Erection Technology of Bridge Precast Box Girder

At present,the precast construction technology has been widely used,especially in the process of bridge construction,where the precast box girder construction and erection technology has attracted more attention compared to other available methods.In order to effectively improve the application effect of this technology,and the overall quality of the bridge,this paper discusses the advantage and disadvantage of implementing the precast box girder construction and erection technology in the bridge construction.

Optimal pressure in penile rehabilitation with a vacuum erection device: evidenee based on a rat model

Vacuum erecti on device(VED),used to treat radical prostatectomy(RP)-associated erectile dysfunction,has attracted con siderable attention.However,the optimal negative pressure remains to be determined.This investigation explored the optimal pressure for VED therapy in penile rehabilitation.Thirty-six 9-week-old male rats were randomly divided into six groups:control groups(sham group,bilateral cavernous nerve crush[BCNC]group)and VED therapy groups(-200 mmHg group,-300 mmHg group,-400 mmHg group,-500 mmHg group).BCNC group and VED therapy groups underwent BCNC surgery.Intracavernosal pressure(ICP)/mean arterial pressure(MAP)ratio was calculated to assess erectile function.Mass on's trichrome(MT)staining,terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling(TUNEL)assay,immunohistochemistry,and real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)were performed to explore cellular and molecular changes of the penis.Compared to the BCNC group,ICP/MAP ratios in all VED treatment groups were improved significantly(all P<0.05),but there were no statistically significant differences among VED therapy groups.With increased pressure,complications gradually emerged and increased in frequency.Expression of molecular indicators,such as endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eNOS)and alpha-smooth muscle actin(a?SMA),increased after VED therapy,and hypoxia-inducible factor la(HIF-la)and transforming growth factor beta(TGF-p)decreased.In addition,VED therapy improved the outcomes of MT and TUNEL assay.This investigation demonstrated a pressure of-200 mmHg in a rat model is optimal for VED therapy for penile rehabilitation after RP.No further benefits were observed with increased pressure,despite an increase in complications.

Effects of erect panicle genotype and environment interactions on rice yield and yield components

The dense and erect panicle (EP) genotype conferred by DEP1 has been widely used in the breeding of high-yield Chinese japonica rice varieties.However,the breeding value of the EP genotype has rarely been determined at the plant population level.Therefore,the effects of the interaction of EP genotype and the environment at different locations and times on rice yield and its various components were investigated in this study.Two sets of near-isogenic lines (NILs)of EP and non-EP (NEP) genotypes with Liaojing 5 (LG5) and Akitakomachi (AKI) backgrounds were grown in the field in 2016 and 2017 in Shenyang,China,and Kyoto,Japan.In 2018,these sets were grown only in Kyoto,Japan.The average yields of the EP and NEP genotypes were 6.67 and 6.13 t ha^(-1)for the AKI background,and 6.66 and 6.58 t ha^(-1)for the LG5 background,respectively.The EP genotype positively affected panicle number (PN) and grain number per square meter (GNPM),mostly resulting in a positive effect on harvest index (HI).In contrast,the EP genotype exerted a negative effect on thousand-grain weight (KGW).The ratio of the performance of the EP genotype relative to the NEP genotype in terms of yield and total biomass correlated positively with mean daily solar radiation during a 40-day period around heading.These results indicate that the effectiveness of the EP genotype depends on the availability of solar radiation,and the effect of this genotype is consistently positive for sink formation,conditional in terms of source capacity,and positive in a high-radiation environment.

直立型川麦冬黄酮含量变化规律的初步研究(英文)

[Objective] The experiment aimed to inquire into the regular pattern of the flavonoids content in erect type Ophiopogon jaonicus preliminarily.[Methods]In the main Ophiopogon jaonicus-producing area,we use the method of home position dynamic method to gather sample for experiments,use UV to determine the flavonoids content in Ophiopogon jaonicus and use correlation and regression method to analyze the relation between flavonoids content and the growth period of Ophiopogon jaonicus.[Results]The relation between flavonoids content(y1)and the growth period(x∥d)of erect type Ophiopogon jaonicus is:y=1.235 6lnx-4.748 9(n=7,50≤x≤730,0≤y≤3.128,r0.001=0.950 7,r=0.954 2).[Conclusion]During a determinate time(50≤x≤730),positive correlation exists between flavonoids content and the growth period of Ophiopogon jaonicus.Our research has a great importance in directing the scientific harvest and GAP production of erect type Ophiopogon jaonicus.

Age-Specific Clinical Features of Erectile Dysfunction

Sexual health can be considered as a mirror of general health and, in turn, general health is a prerequisite for sexual heath. The aim of this study was to compare the different clinical features of erectile dysfunction (ED) in young and elderly males. From June 2011 to December 2011, 224 patients were included and divided into two groups. Elderly ED group consisted of 120 patients with ED and all were 61 - 90 years old, and young ED group consisted of 104 patients with ED and all were 21 - 45 years old. Questionnaires, physical examination, blood sample test, ultrasound monitor, time of achieving erection (TAE), intra-vaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT), ECG and penis-brachial blood pressure index (PBI) were investigated. There were significant differences between the two groups, regarding the top three complications, the body mass index (BMI), International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) scores, Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) total scores, TAE, IELT and PBI. We concluded that clinical features of ED were age-specific, which will be helpful for treatment strategies and evaluation of the treatment efficacy.

Neural regulation of sexual function in men

Male sexual response is controlled by a series of neurally mediated phenomena regulating libido, motivation, arousal and genital responses such as penile erection and ejaculation. These neural events that occur in a hormonally defined milieu involve different neurophysiological, neurochemical, and neuropsychological parameters controlled by central mechanisms, spinal reflexes and peripheral nervous system. Epidemiologic studies have suggested the high prevalence of male sexual dysfunction worldwide with significant impact on the quality of life of patients suffering from this problem. The incidence of sexual dysfunction is particularly high among men with neurologic disorders. Sexual dysfunction in men, such as loss of sexual desire, erectile dysfunction(ED), changes in arousal, and disturbances in orgasm and ejaculation may involve organic causes, psychological problems, or both. Organic male sexual disorders include a wide variety of neurologic, vasculogenic, neurovascular or hormonal factors that interfere with libido,erection, ejaculation and orgasm. Neurogenic sexual dysfunction may result from a specific neurologic problem or it could be the presenting symptom of a developing neurologic disease. Neurologic ED could result from complications of chronic neurologic disorders, trauma, surgical injury or iatrogenic causes. These etiologic factors and the underlying pathophysiologic conditions could overlap, which should be considered when making a diagnosis and selecting a treatment. A detailed history of physical examination, neurologic disorders, as well as any past history of psychological and psychiatric disturbances, and a thorough neurological examination will provide better understanding of the underlying causes of neurogenic sexual dysfunction. In patients with spinal cord injury, the location of the lesion and the time of onset of injury should be determined. Therapeutic strategies against erectile dysfunction are initiated with the least invasive options using the phosphodiesterase inhibitors. When oral medication options are exhausted, intraurethral and intracavernosal therapies and ultimately vacuum constriction devices and penile implants are considered. Recent basic research has suggested the potential role of stem cell-based therapeutic strategies to protect penile neural integrity and reverse cavernosal neurodegeneration in experimental models. Further insight into the central, spinal and peripheral neural mechanisms of male sexual response may help precise diagnosis and better management of neurogenic sexual dysfunction in men.

Effects of Row-Spacing on Canopy Structure and Yield in Different Plant Type Rice Cultivars

Two japonica rice varieties, Longjing 20 (more tillers and curved panicle type, MCP) and Longjing 21 (few tillers and half erect panicle type, FEP), were used to study the effects of row-spacing on canopy structure, morphological characteristics and yield. The results showed that the percentage of productive tiller reduced first, and increased afterwards as row-spacing increasing. The relationship between row spacing and the percentage of productive tiller fitted a quadratic regression. The effects of row spacing on leaf area index (LAI) at later tillering stage and the highest stem number per square meter also followed a quadratic regression relationship with increasing first and then reducing. The effects of row-spacing on primary branch were larger than the secondary branch in Longjing 20. However, the trend in Longjing 21 was opposite. The relationship between row spacing and seed setting rate of the secondary branch or panicle was negatively correlated. An extreme significant negative correlation was obtained between seed setting rate of secondary branch in Longjing 20. There was no significant positive correlation between row-spacing and yield in Longjing 20 (R2=0.68). However, the negative correlation between row-spacing and yield of Longjing 21 was extremely significant (R2=-0.96**). The canopy structure of MCP was more sensitive to row-spacing. The positive correlation between row spacing and the length of the flag leaf (R2=0.89**), the width of the flag leaf (R2=0.85*), the length of the last internode (R2=0.85*), the length of the last 2nd internode (R2=0.96**) or the length of the panicle (R2=0.91**) was significant or extremely significant in Longjing 20, but not in Longjing 21. The wider row-spacing promoted the accumulation of the dry matter of panicle, stem and leaf and the yield formation in MCP. The best row-spacing in Longjing 20 was 30 cm. For Longjing 21, the narrower row-spacing was better. The best row-spacing of it was 21 cm. These results suggested that improved the population environment of MCP or the utilization of the free space in the field of FEP could be reached either by wider row-spacing or narrow row-spacing.

Effects of N rates on N uptake and yield in erect panicle rice

The field experiment was conducted in 2005 and 2006 at Northern Japonica Rice Cultivation and Breeding Research Center, Shenyang Agricultural University,Shenyang, northeast China. Shennong 265 (typical erect panicle rice cultivar), and Liaojing 294 (traditional semi-erect panicle rice cultivar) were grown under different N rates to assess N uptake and N use efficiency. Nitrgen (N) uptake of two rice cultivars increased in their response to N improvement. Grain N of Liaojing 294 predominantly came from root absorption on low N treatments, while grain N of Shennong 265 mainly came from root absorption and had less N re-transferring from vegetative organs under high N rates. Shennong 265 produced less N uptake before heading and more N uptake after heading than Liaojing 294. GY was highly related with N fertilizer rate (r2 = 0.870** for Shennong 265, r2 = 0.613* for Liaojing 294). Shennong 265 was a N-unefficient genotype, since it produced low yield at low N levels and responded well to N application. Liaojing 294 was a N-efficient genotype producing high yield at both low and high N rates. NNG and NFUE exhibited positive correlation with N application rates, but NUEPG showed negative correlation with N application rates;GY as well as BIO and N uses efficiency parameters (TN, NNG, NFUE) which were all positively correlate, while the correlation between GY as well as BIO and the other N efficiency indicators expressed negative correlation. The relationship between GY and TN as well as BIO and TN was observed with significant difference (r2 = 0.824**, r2 = -0.858**).

Canopy Light Interception of a Conventional and an Erect Leafed Sorghum

Two sorghum lines, an erect leafed mutant sorghum and the wild type from which the mutant was generated, were field grown in rectilinear arrays at low (10 plants m-2) and high (23 plants m-2) population densities. Canopy light interception, biomass accretion and yield were measured. Photosynthetically active radiation under the canopy at ground level and midway through the canopy were higher in the erect leafed line, as compared to the normal leafed line. Planting density had less effect on mean grain yield and biomass in the erect leaf line than in the wild type. Though not conclusive, when taken together, the results suggested that optimal planting densities are higher for the erect leaf line and that the erect leaf trait could be useful for incorporation into breeding programs.

关于“葡王柱”商榷二则——葡萄牙“发现碑”简述

2006年,黄薇在《Tamao上川说新证——关于上川岛新发现"石笋"的考察》①提出了一些新颖的观点,试图以"新发现"的"石笋"(图1)来"新证" "Tamao"是上川。笔者在拜读该文的过程中,发现其中关于"石笋"即"葡王柱"的提法和定论大有可商榷之处。笔者不揣鄙陋,对她"新发现""石笋"和"石笋"即"葡王柱"的说法进行商榷,希望有助于对这两个问题的正确认知。黄说出现后,上川岛上"创造"出了一新历史—文化—旅游景点,甚至还把它视为古代"海上丝绸之路"的重要节点而列入了申遗内容。

Construction of a high-density genetic linkage map and identification of flowering-related QTL in erect milkvetch(Astragalus adsurgens)

Erect milkvetch(Astragalus adsurgens)is a perennial legume forage crop with economic and ecological value in livestock grazing and soil-erosion control in arid and semiarid areas worldwide.Genomic information and molecular tools to support breeding and research in the species are limited.The objectives of this investigation were to map its genome using DNA markers and to identify quantitative trait loci(QTL)in the species.An F1 mapping population of 250 plants was developed from a cross between two parents with differing flowering-related traits.A high-density genetic linkage map containing 4821 markers on eight linkage groups(LGs)with a total genetic length of 1395 cM and a mean interval of 0.29 cM between adjacent markers was constructed with SLAF-seq technology.Comparative genomic analyses revealed the highest genome sequence similarity(8.71%)between erect milkvetch and Medicago truncatula,followed by Glycine max(7.65%),Cicer arietinum(7.53%),and Lupinus angustifolius(5.21%).A total of 64 significant QTL for flowering-related traits on six LGs were detected,accounting for 9.38 to 19.1%of the associated phenotype variation.Five and 48 key candidate genes for floret number and inflorescence length were identified based on the Glycyrrhiza uralensis genome.These candidate genes were involved in ubiquitination/degradation,pollen development,cell division,cytokinin biosynthetic process,and plant flowering.These findings shed light on the regulation of flowering traits in erect milkvetch and provide genomic resources for future molecular breeding of the crop.

Contribution and Prospect of Erect Panicle Type to Japonica Super Rice

Over the past 30 years,super rice played an important role in boosting rice yield.The phenotype of erect panicle(EP)architecture controlled by dense and erect panicle 1(dep1)is the typical characteristic of super rice,and the phenotype has been used in rice breeding for nearly a century.In this review,the molecular genetic basis of EP phenotype,and mechanism of how dep1 affects rice carbon,nitrogen metabolism and grain quality(grain shape and taste quality)were discussed.In addition,we discussed the possible improvement strategies of rice yield and quality.This review provides a quick overview of the whole process for rice quality formation,as well as suggestions and ideas for future research on rice quality improvement.

Improving grain appearance of erect-panicle japonica rice cultivars by introgression of the null gs9 allele

The panicle architecture and grain size of rice affect not only grain yield but also grain quality,especially grain appearance.The erect-panicle(EP)trait controlled by the qpe9-1/dep1 allele has been widely used in high-yielding japonica rice breeding,but usually accompanied with moderate appearance of milled rice.The null gs9 allele shows a good potential for improving grain shape and appearance.However,GS9 and qPE9-1/DEP1 loci are tightly linked,and their interaction is unclear,which obviously restricts their utilization in modern rice breeding.In the present study,comparative analyses of protein and mRNA levels revealed that GS9 and qPE9-1 function independently.Three nearisogenic lines(NILs)carrying various allelic combinations of these two loci,NIL(gs9/qpe9-1),NIL(GS9/qPE9-1)and NIL(gs9/qPE9-1),in the EP japonica cultivar 2661(GS9/qpe9-1)background were developed for genetic interaction analysis.GS9 and qPE9-1 had additive effects on determining grain size,and the null gs9 allele could decrease grain chalkiness and improve grain appearance without affecting plant and panicle architecture in EP japonica cultivars.Additionally,introgression lines(ILs)developed in another released EP japonica cultivar Wuyujing 27(WYJ27)background showed the same additive effect and the feasibility of utilizing the gs9 allele to improve grain appearance quality in high-yielding EP cultivars.This study provides an effective strategy for rice breeders to improve rice grain appearance in EP japonica and related cultivars.

The second molar dislocation is more common clinically.To investigate the related factors of the second permanent molar dislocation,and provide reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of orthodontics.From the current clinical research,the clinical methods of orthodontic erect secondary molars are also diverse and clinical.The narrower first molar alveolar arch width,smaller ANB angle,and crowded maxillary posterior segment arch are the factors that cause the maxillary second permanent molar dislocation.The narrow alveolar arch width,the smaller SNB angle,the larger ANB angle,and the crowded lower mandibular arch are the factors leading to the dislocation of the mandibular second permanent molar.In addition,for the second mandibular molar malposition,it is particularly important to select the corrective treatment plan.It is especially important to improve the treatment.

Icariin on relaxation effect of corpus cavernosum smooth muscle

NO-cGMP pathway in penile corpus cavernosal smooth muscle plays an important role in penile erection. The level of cGMP is regulated by a balance between the rate of synthesis by guanylate cyclase and the rate of hydrolytic breakdown to guanosine 5’ monophosphate (GMP) by phos-phodiesterase 5(PDE5). Icariin is isolated from natural drug Epimedii herba, it is shown to have the relaxation effect on corpus cavernosal smooth muscle of rabbit (IC50: 4×10-4 mol/L), and the mechanism of the relaxation effect of Icariin on corpus cavernosum believed to have the inhibiting effect on PDE5 and activation of NO-cGMP pathway to enhancing penile erection.

Kinematic analysis of penile reflexes in a rat model of spinal cord injury

The ex-copula penile dorsiflexion reflex(PDFR)is an established measure of sexual dysfunction in male rat models of spinal cord injury.Although the PDFR after complete spinal transection is well described,information regarding the more clinically relevant incomplete spinal contusion injury model is limited.This study examined,using two-dimensional(2D)kinematic analysis,the relationship between the PDFR and degree of white matter sparing(WMS).Male Wistar rats received a T9 contusion with varying degrees of impactor forces.Weekly kinematic recordings of the PDFR were made 3-8 weeks postinjury.Sexual reflex components examined included maximum angle of penile dorsiflexion,total penile event duration,and penile ascent speed.Post hoc comparison between animals grouped based upon injury severity(moderate-severe:13.33%-17.15%WMS vs moderate:20.85%-33.50%WMS)ndicated PDFR effects.Specifically,the numbers of animals with more moderate contusions having data points above the median n both maximum angle of penile dorsiflexion and penile ascent speed were significantly lower than animals with more severe njuries.Total penile event duration was also affected but only at more chronic time points(6-8 weeks).Thus,2D kinematic analysis of the PDFR allows for more consistent and quantifiable analysis of the subtle differences that can occur between injury severity groups in the rat contusion model.
