Interactive effect of combined exposure to ethylene glycol ethers and ethanol on hematological parameters in rats

The study of the interaction of three glycol ethers, i.e. 2-methoxyethanol (ME), 2-ethoxyethanol (EE) and 2-butoxyethanol (BE) administered subcutaneously for 4 weeks and ethanol simultaneously given as 10% w/v solution for drinking in male rats, was carried out from a toxicodynamic point of view. Administered alone, ME (2.5 and 5.0 mM/kg), EE (2.5 and 5.0 mM/kg) or BE (0.75 and 1.25 mM/kg) resulted in a decrease of red blood cells (RBC), packed cell volumes (PCV), and hemoglobin concentration (HGB), as well as an increase in mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and reticulocyte count (Ret). In the rats co-ex- posed to ethanol and EGAEs, a significantly less pronounced hematological changes in comparison with animal exposed to these ethers alone were seen. The rats simultaneously exposed to ethanol and both ME and EE at the lower dose demonstrated mainly protection from the alterations in leukocyte system. In contrast, in the rats which consumed ethanol and were simultaneously treated with the higher dose of ME or EE (5.0 mM/kg) the amelioration of same hematological parameters were displayed. The intake of ethanol along with BE treatment at both doses resulted in markedly ameliorated hematological parameters, compared to those which were changed by BE alone. In conclusion, the decrease of the hemolytic effects of EGAEs is ethanol dependent. Ethanol is a substrate of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), and affinity of this enzyme to ethanol is greater than that to glycol ethers. It is possible that ethanol results in the change in EGAEs metabolism. 展开更多

Transparent wood has potential application in intelligent building,solar cell,electronics,and other advanced materials,while its single functionability hinders its further development.Flexible transparent wood(FTW)was prepared by alkaline pretreatment and bleaching treat-ment of paulownia wood followed by impregnation of epoxy resin and ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether(EDGE).The eff ect of delignifi cation degree on the optical and mechani-cal properties of FTW was studied,and the infl uence of the epoxy/EDGE ratio on the fl exibility and mechanical proper-ties of FTW was also investigated.The results showed that higher delignifi cation degree resulted in higher transmit-tance of FTW.More EDGE addition led to better fl exibility of FTW,while overmuch addition of EDGE will reduce the mechanical properties.The optimal FTW sample resulted in a high transmittance of 89%and an ultrahigh haze value of 97%with outstanding fl exibility and excellent mechanical properties.The investigation of FTW broadens the research fi eld of transparent wood,and provides great possibility for its application in fl exible wearable devices and fl exible materials. 展开更多

The influence of different poly(ethylene glycol) alkyl ethers(CnH2n+1O(C2H4O)mH, CnEm) on flotation of carbonaceous copper shale mixed with quartz as a gangue mineral was investigated. The results show that all of the ethers C4E1, C4E2, C4E3, C2E2, C6E2 investigated can be used for the flotation of carbonaceous copper shale. The best selectivity of separation in the flotation of the carbonaceous copper shale and quartz mixture is obtained with the C4E2 and C2E2 ethers. The obtained data can be used for developing separation of organic carbon present in carbonaceous shale at a rougher flotation stage on an industrial scale. 展开更多

The Complex permittivity spectra of glycol ether(GE)compounds such as ethylene glycol mono-methyl ether(EGME)with water mixture over entire concentration range and in temperature range of 10-25℃ have been determined using Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR)technique in the frequency range 10MHz to 50 GHz.The complex permittivity spectra for EGME-water were fitted in the Cole-Davidson model.The Static dielectric constant(ε_(0)^(E)),Relaxation time(τ),effective Kirkwood correlation factor(g_(eff)),excess permittivity(ε_(0)),thermodynamic parameters(activation enthalpy and activation entropy)and Bruggeman factor(f_(B))have been calculated by the nonlinear least square fit method.The intermolecular interactions between EGME-water binary mixtures suggest the nonlinear behavior of dielectric parameters.The contribution of hydrogen bonding interactions among the solute-solvent mixtures is confirmed by Excess properties and Bruggeman factor. 展开更多

Novel thermo-responsive cellulose papers were prepared via grafting poly(di(ethylene glycol)methyl ether methacrylate)(PDEGMA)by activators regenerating electron transfer(ARGET)and atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP).Attenuated total refraction Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(ATR-FTIR)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)measurements of the modified paper showed that PDEGMA brushes were successfully grafted on the paper surface.The thermal stability of the papers before and after grafting was evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).The PDEGMA-grafted paper exhibited a two-step thermal degradation process,and presented thermo-responsive characteristics.It was hydrophilic at room temperature but changed rapidly to highly hydrophobic when the temperature rose above 50℃. 展开更多

Comb-like acrylic acid poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether ester (MPEGA)-co-acrylamide (AM) copolymer [P(MPEGA-co-AM)] as novel phase change materials (PCMs) was successfully synthesized via free-radical water solution polymerization. The structures of P(MPEGA-co-AM) was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-lR). The experimental results showed that P(MPEGA-co-AM) copolymer possessed high molecular weight (Mo =66 kg/mol), narrow molecular weight distribution (PDI≈1.14). The phase transition temperature of copolymer decreases to 31℃, which is very much appreciated and urgently needed for smart PCM related to human body. Moreover, P(MPEGA-co-AM) had good thermal stability even at 380℃. 展开更多

A novel solid polymer electrolyte with comb-like structure is prepared via a solvent-free UV-cured method.The relationship between conductivity and molecular weight is investigated and revealed.The optimal electrolyte presents a considerably high conductivity of 1.44·10^(-4)S·cm^(-1)at 30℃.Meanwhile,it shows excellent compatibility with metallic lithium and wide electrochemical window(>5 V).To investigate the safety and cycling performance,the coin cell and soft package battery are assembled respectively.The LiFePO_(4)/Li coin cells exhibit initial discharge specific capacities of 163.2,147.7,137.3 and 108.7 mA·h·g^(-1)at 0.1,0.2,0.5 and 1C under 60℃,respectively.Notably,when the coin cells work at 30℃,the initial discharge specific capacities at 0.05,0.1,0.2 and 0.5C are 140.5,133.5,107.7 and 55.6 mA·h·g^(-1).Significantly,a 3.5 cm×7 cm solid-state soft pack battery is fabricated and cycling at 30℃.The first discharge capacity reaches to 137.5 mA·h·g^(-1)and the capacity retention is as high as 84.4%after 100 cycles at 0.2C and remain 95.5%after 100 cycles at 0.5C,respectively.These results shows a promising solid polymer electrolyte for solid-state batteries with good cycling and safety performance. 展开更多
