A compilation of 178 more precise ages on 10 potential Large Igneous Provinces(LIPs)across southern Africa,is compared to Earth’s supercontinental cycles,where 5 more prominent LIP-events all formed during the assemb...A compilation of 178 more precise ages on 10 potential Large Igneous Provinces(LIPs)across southern Africa,is compared to Earth’s supercontinental cycles,where 5 more prominent LIP-events all formed during the assembly of supercontinents,rather than during breakup.This temporal bias is confirmed by a focused review of field relationships,where these syn-assembly LIPs formed behind active continental arcs;whereas,the remaining postassembly-and likely breakup-related-LIPs never share such associations.Exploring the possibility of two radically different LIP-types,only the two younger breakup events(the Karoo LIP and Gannakouriep Suite)produced basalts with more enriched asthenospheric OIB-signatures;whereas,all assembly LIPs produced basalts with stronger lithospheric,as well as more or less primitive asthenospheric,signatures.A counterintuitive observation of Precambrian breakup LIPs outcropping as smaller fragments that are more peripherally located along craton margins,compared to assembly LIPs as well as the Phanerozoic Karoo breakup LIP,is explained by different preservation potentials during subsequent supercontinental cycles.Thus,further accentuating radical differences between(1)breakup LIPs,preferentially intruding along what evolves to become volcanic rifted margins that are more susceptible to deformation within subsequent orogens,and(2)assembly LIPs,typically emplaced along backarc rifts within more protected cratonic interiors.A conditioned duality is proposed,where assembly LIPs are primarily sustained by thermal blanketing(as well as local arc hydration and rifting)below assembling supercontinents and breakup LIPs more typically form above impinging mantle plumes.Such a duality is further related to an overall dynamic Earth model whereby predominantly supercontinent-orientated ocean lithospheric subduction establishes/revitalizes large low shear velocity provinces(LLSVPs)during assembly LIP-activity,and heating of such LLSVPs by the Earth’s core subsequently leads to a derivation of mantle plumes during supercontinental breakup.展开更多
The Myers Briggs Type Indicator （MBTI） test has been widely used in schools and career placement organizations to counsel individuals into compatible career choices. The test has also been utilized in academia to en...The Myers Briggs Type Indicator （MBTI） test has been widely used in schools and career placement organizations to counsel individuals into compatible career choices. The test has also been utilized in academia to enhance instructor＇s knowledge of the different learning styles and thus allows them to develop strategies to increase students＇ learning. The test is a forced-choice self-reporting exam comprised of 126 questions. Based on Jung＇s theory of personality type, the test seeks to categorize personality types into 16 discrete groups based on the four preference poles （Myers, 1962）. The poles are based on the preference for： （1） introversion （I） or extroversion （E）; （2） sensing （S） or intuition （N）; （3） thinking （T） or feeling （F）; and （4）judging （J） or perception （P）. Laribee （1994） studied American accounting students and found that certain personality traits were over represented in upper-level accounting courses, while Macdaid, McCaulley, and Kainz （1986） found that the same personality trait groups were over-represented in the profession. Oswick and Barber （1998）, however, found no significant relationship between the grade earned in an introductory accounting course and the personality traits as identified by the MBTI with 344 UK-based accounting students. This study investigates the relationship between a student＇s academic success in a financial accounting principles course and the MBTI personality type indicators. The type distribution of 59 historically black colleges and universities＇ （HBCU） business administration majors was analyzed and separated into two groups. The groups were then tested to determine if there was a significant difference in the mean grade of the groups in accounting principles.展开更多

Purpose of this article is to investigate and explain t...Background: Modern psychological theories define introvert-extrovert spectrum as a continuous dimension of personality, rather than simply two personality types. Purpose of this article is to investigate and explain the introvert-extrovert spectrum, define and discuss the term ambivert whilst expanding the term introvert-extrovert spectrum using the term of ambiversion as an equally important, and finally, discuss the importance of libido in the context of introvert-ambivert-extrovert spectrum. Methods: Using literature review, author’s own experience and reflections about this subject, the theory of introvert-ambivert-extrovert spectrum is explained, expanded and discussed in this article. Conclusion: Libido, which can be defined not only as a sexual drive (narrow meaning), but as an overall life energy (wider meaning), can be directed in the individual’s expression of energy more inward (that is being more introverted) or more outward (that is being more extroverted). Ambiversion is somewhere near the half-way mark between two extremes, and it is characterized by high degree of adaptiveness and a good balance between inward and outward turning of the libido, which is associated with having more mature defense mechanisms in different life situations in comparison with predominantly introverts or extroverts, who might be more susceptible for the development of neurotic defense mechanism when faced with demanding life situations that require personality traits from the opposite side of the introvert-ambivert-extrovert spectrum. Using psychological advice and mental training it is possible to develop some of the personality traits from the opposite side of the spectrum in order to increase the adaptiveness to different life situations and avoid the development of neurotic defense mechanisms and neurotic surrogate life goals.展开更多
With the increasing number of Chinese learners each year,the interna-tional influence of the Chinese language has also grown.Consequently,Chinese auxiliary learning tools should align more closely with the needs of pre...With the increasing number of Chinese learners each year,the interna-tional influence of the Chinese language has also grown.Consequently,Chinese auxiliary learning tools should align more closely with the needs of present-day learners.This paper focuses on a typical Chinese dictionary app and conducts tests and comparisons of the optical character recognition(OCR)function.Specifically,it compares the OCR function of a widely used Chinese learning dictionary with the more advanced and sophisticated mobile built-in OCR recognition technology available today.By identifying the technical gap,the paper proposes a design that incorporates deep learning techniques to enhance the built-in OCR function of the dictionary.This improvement aims to significantly enhance recognition accuracy in natural scenarios and ultimately enhance the user experience of the Chinese learning dictionary app.展开更多
