From the beginning of role in games＇ plot to sexualized graphical representation, woman in virtual world were （and sometimes still are） a point of discussion about characters sexualisation and role of female sex in virtual industry. The main aim of this paper is to present analysis of female representation in video games and how in last 30 years it has changed. In other words, how female characters were ennobled from sex object to main protagonist status. In presented research, there were used mostly the examples of popular video games with extended plot and world which can be explored by protagonists. Video game historiography, textual analysis （which helped to treat video game character as a protagonist）, and thematic analysis of video games were used as a main research method. The main conclusion of this paper is that female characters can overcome all gender or sexual stereotypes and even eventually became an icon of popular culture展开更多

Harriet Wilson＇s Our Nig （1859） reflects an ＂alternative social character＂, for the female protagonist suffers racism in the free North, because she is a mulatto child. Through depicting the life of free blacks, who supposedly lives a better life than Southern slaves, Wilson exposes how she has actually lived and sensed life in antebellum America. According to Raymond Williams （2011）, there are two kinds of literary writings. The first represents the general tendency of the age, and he calls it ＂dominant social character＂; representing the majority content of both the public writing and speaking. But, another different literary writing lives in its shadow; one that usually leads the conflicts of the time. It is the ＂alternative social character＂; the literature of the victims of repression and marginalization, produced by the lower class, women, and blacks. They reflected how they were dehumanized, and exposed their suffering and abasement. They also aimed to prove individualism. The novel reveals how racism in the North could be worse than the slavery of the South. This paper shows Wilson deviation from the ＂her brethren＂ in writing her novel. The aim of this paper is to show the interesting intertextual relation between The Great Gatsby and the episode ＂Trimalchio＇s Feast＂--inserted in Petronius＇ Satyricon-regarding to the construction of female charac...The aim of this paper is to show the interesting intertextual relation between The Great Gatsby and the episode ＂Trimalchio＇s Feast＂--inserted in Petronius＇ Satyricon-regarding to the construction of female characters. The characters with the nearest resemblance are Fortunata （Trimalchio＇s wife） and Myrtle （Tom Buchanan＇s mistress）. Fortunata＇s presentation stands out several elements which mark her by degradation, the same sort of elements which is possible to observe in Myrtle＇s description. Among these qualities, there are the violence and the ugliness shown in their physical and psychological portrayal, exhibited on the way they dress and behave in the social gatherings in which they take part. These features are also showed in the manner they are treated by their men. Fitzgerald also shows his characters--male or female in a very similar manner. The women, in both books, are not presented in a flattering way, for sure, but they are not also presented as inferior beings. Wherefore the ancient piece can be once more approximate from modern narratives and this fact reflects in its reception and on the clear, and timeless, influence it has on literature in general as in the case of Fitzgerald＇s novel.展开更多
