According to the evaluation results, artificial neural networks( ANNs) model to predict the ultimate strength of FRP confined column with different shapes was proposed. The models had seven inputs including the column length,the tensile strength of the FRP in the hoop direction,the total thickness of FRP,the diameter of the concrete specimen,the elastic modulus of FRP,the corner radius and the concrete compressive strength. The compressive strength of the confined concrete was the output data. The results reveal that the proposed models have good prediction and generalization capacity with acceptable errors. 展开更多

The adequacy of using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) retrofit technique to restore the flexure-compression behavior of deteriorated bridge timber piles is examined experimentally in this paper. Sixteen specimens are tested monotonically under eccentric compressive loading. The specimens are first tested in their unretrofitted condition to determine their elastic properties. Each specimen is then cut and connected (posted) using the proposed FRP retrofit technique, and retested. The results show that the retrofitted specimens are capable of reaching same or higher strengths than that of the unretrofitted specimens with minimal reduction in their stiffness. Based on the experimental results, a design equation is presented to compute the volumetric ratio of FRP needed for retrofitting bridge timber piles under eccentric load. 展开更多

Fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)composites are increasingly popular due to their superior strength to weight ratio.In contrast to significant recent advances in automating the FRP manufacturing process via 3D printing,quality inspection and defect detection remain largely manual and inefficient.In this paper,we propose a new approach to automatically detect,from microscope images,one of the major defects in 3D printed FRP parts:fiber-deficient areas(or equivalently,resin-rich areas).From cross-sectional microscope images,we detect the locations and sizes of fibers,construct their Voronoi diagram,and employ-shape theory to determine fiber-deficient areas.Our Voronoi diagram and-shape construction algorithms are specialized to exploit typical characteristics of 3D printed FRP parts,giving significant efficiency gains.Our algorithms robustly handle real-world inputs containing hundreds of thousands of fiber cross-sections,whether in general or non-general position. 展开更多

通过用纤维增强树脂光纤光栅智能复合筋(FRP-OFBG筋)替换普通钢绞线中丝研制出了新型FRP-OFBG智能钢绞线。将智能钢绞线置于3 m拉索试验钢架台座上进行了静载试验,在5次循环加载后于第6次加载至破断,根据试验结果对FRP-OFBG智能钢绞线... 通过用纤维增强树脂光纤光栅智能复合筋(FRP-OFBG筋)替换普通钢绞线中丝研制出了新型FRP-OFBG智能钢绞线。将智能钢绞线置于3 m拉索试验钢架台座上进行了静载试验,在5次循环加载后于第6次加载至破断,根据试验结果对FRP-OFBG智能钢绞线的应变传感性能及受力重复性能进行了研究。研究发现,智能钢绞线的感知线性度和重复性均较好,其承载力比不计FRP-OFBG筋强度的钢绞线的承载力略大,破坏形式为FRP-OFBG筋达到极限应力破坏后,钢绞线不滑丝并在中间位置破坏,可实现智能钢绞线破断的全过程监测,其最大应变可达9500με以上。结果表明,实用新型FRP-OFBG智能钢绞线是一种集应变感知和受力于一体的结构健康监测建筑材料。 展开更多

Numerical analysis is carried out to study the sectional properties of the fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)-confined reinforced concrete(RC)circular columns. The axial load ratio, the FRP confinement ratio and the longitudinal reinforcement characteristic value are the three main parameters that can influence the neutral axis depth when concrete compression strain reaches an ultimate value. The formula for computing the central angle θ, corresponding to the compression zone, is established according to the data regression of the numerical analysis results. The numerical analysis results demonstrate that the concrete stress enhancement from transverse confinement and strain hardening of the longitudinal reinforcement can cause a much greater flexural strength than that defined by the design code. Based on the analytical studies and the test results of 36 large scale columns, the formula to calculate the flexural strength when columns fail under seismic loading is proposed, and the calculated results agree well with the test results. Finally, parametric studies are conducted on a typical column with different axial load ratios, longitudinal reinforcement characteristic value and FRP confinement ratios. Analysis of the results shows that the calculated flexural strength can be increased by 50% compared to that of unconfined columns defined by the code. 展开更多

In order to study the effectiveness of combined carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets and steel jacket in strengthening the seismic performance of corrosion-damaged reinforced concrete (RC) columns, twelve reinforced concrete columns are tested under combined lateral cyclic displacement excursions and constant axial load. The variables studied in this program include effects of corrosion degree of the rebars, level of axial load, the amount of CFRP sheets and steel jacket. The results indicate that the combined CFRP and steel jacket retrofitting technique is effective in improving load-carrying, ductility and energy absorption capacity of the columns. Compared with the corrosion-damaged RC column, the lateral load and the ductility factor of many strengthened columns increase more than 90% and 100%, respectively. The formulae for the calculation of the yielding load, the maximum lateral load and the displacement ductility factor of the strengthened columns under combined constant axial load and cyclically increasing lateral loading are developed. The test results are also compared with the results obtained from the proposed formulae. A good agreement between calculated values and experimental results is observed. 展开更多

Accurately estimating the interfacial bond capacity of the near-surface mounted(NSM)carbon fiber-reinforced polymer(CFRP)to concrete joint is a fundamental task in the strengthening and retrofit of existing reinforced concrete(RC)structures.The machine learning(ML)approach may provide an alternative to the commonly used semi-empirical or semi-analytical methods.Therefore,in this work we have developed a predictive model based on an artificial neural network(ANN)approach,i.e.using a back propagation neural network(BPNN),to map the complex data pattern obtained from an NSM CFRP to concrete joint.It involves a set of nine material and geometric input parameters and one output value.Moreover,by employing the neural interpretation diagram(NID)technique,the BPNN model becomes interpretable,as the influence of each input variable on the model can be tracked and quantified based on the connection weights of the neural network.An extensive database including 163 pull-out testing samples,collected from the authors’research group and from published results in the literature,is used to train and verify the ANN.Our results show that the prediction given by the BPNN model agrees well with the experimental data and yields a coefficient of determination of 0.957 on the whole database.After removing one non-significant feature,the BPNN becomes even more computationally efficient and accurate.In addition,compared with the existed semi-analytical model,the ANN-based approach demonstrates a more accurate estimation.Therefore,the proposed ML method may be a promising alternative for predicting the bond strength of NSM CFRP to concrete joint for structural engineers. 展开更多

Many studies on fiber reinforced polymer composite bars, as a substitute for reinforcing bars, have been conducted to solve corrosion of steel in reinforced concrete structures since 1960s’. However, FRP Bars have a lower elastic modulus than steel rebar as a structural component of concrete structures. Material properties with brittleness fracture and low elastic modulus can be improved by combining cheaper steel than carbon or aramid fibers. In this study, prototypes of FRP Bars with inserted steel wires (i.e., “FRP Hybrid Bars”) were developed and their tensile performance was compared depending on the proportion and diameter of steel. The FRP Hybrid Bars were made by dividing them into D13 and D16 according to the diameter and proportion of inserted wires: GFRPs were combined with wires having different diameters of 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, and 2.0 mm in the proportion of 10%, 30%, 50%, and 70%, respectively. As a result of tensile tests, the elastic modulus of FRP Hybrid Bars were improved as 20% - 190% in comparison with the fully GFRP Bars. 展开更多

针对大吨位纤维增强聚合物(FRP)复合材料拉索锚固问题,基于前期提出的一种适用于多根、大直径的FRP复合材料拉索整体式变刚度锚固方法(简称大吨位锚固),利用应力-应变关系分析了FRP复合材料拉索加载端应力集中产生的本质原因,推导了FRP... 针对大吨位纤维增强聚合物(FRP)复合材料拉索锚固问题,基于前期提出的一种适用于多根、大直径的FRP复合材料拉索整体式变刚度锚固方法(简称大吨位锚固),利用应力-应变关系分析了FRP复合材料拉索加载端应力集中产生的本质原因,推导了FRP复合材料拉索与荷载传递介质协同工作的界面摩擦系数关系式。基于功能原理,推导了大吨位锚固体系的锚固力计算公式,并基于锚固力计算公式进行了参数分析。理论推导结果表明:等刚度荷载传递介质会引起FRP复合材料拉索加载端应力集中,变刚度荷载传递介质的大吨位锚固方法可以有效避免FRP复合材料拉索"切口效应"。推导的界面摩擦系数关系式能够作为FRP复合材料拉索与荷载传递介质是否同步跟进的判断依据。参数分析表明:增加锚固长度和锥角(保持加载端厚度不变)有利于设计较小尺寸大吨位锚固体系,而增加锥角(保持自由端厚度不变)和同时改变加载端与自由端厚度不利于设计较小尺寸大吨位锚固体系。 展开更多

针对大吨位多筋FRP拉索锚固存在应力集中、锚固效率低等问题,提出了一种性能可设计的分段变刚度锚固方法,以同源变刚度为设计理念,开发了一种磨碎玻璃纤维改性树脂荷载传递介质。首先,以常用的石英砂改性树脂为对照组,对比分析了2种改... 针对大吨位多筋FRP拉索锚固存在应力集中、锚固效率低等问题,提出了一种性能可设计的分段变刚度锚固方法,以同源变刚度为设计理念,开发了一种磨碎玻璃纤维改性树脂荷载传递介质。首先,以常用的石英砂改性树脂为对照组,对比分析了2种改性树脂在不同体积掺量下的压缩性能,并利用数值拟合方法揭示了磨碎玻璃纤维改性树脂的压缩强度和弹性模量与体积掺量之间的关系;其次,利用三维实体有限元模型对FRP拉索锚固体系进行了参数分析,并以加载端FRP拉索的应力降低为优化目标;最后,在前述优化基础之上,开展了Φ4-37BFRP拉索的足尺静力试验。结果表明:当改性物体积掺量相同时,磨碎玻璃纤维改性树脂的压缩性能始终优于石英砂改性树脂的压缩性能;磨碎玻璃纤维改性树脂的压缩强度和弹性模量均随着改性物体积分数的增加而增大,且其变化规律符合二次多项式拟合关系(R;>0.98);分段比例为1∶1∶1∶1的磨碎玻璃纤维改性树脂荷载传递介质可有效降低锚固区FRP拉索的应力集中;BFRP拉索总体呈现理想的中部炸裂式破坏,且其荷载-位移关系近似呈线性关系;优化后的拉索锚固体系对BFRP拉索的静力锚固效率为101%,满足规范要求(≥95%);加载后的荷载传递介质未出现损伤,且未与BFRP拉索之间产生滑移;锚固区BFRP拉索的轴向应变自加载端至自由端逐渐减小。变刚度荷载传递介质可以显著减小锚固区加载端BFRP拉索的剪应力集中。 展开更多

合理而高效的纤维增强复合材料(FRP)拉索性能预测方法可有效解决拉索足尺试验难度大、耗时长等问题。为此,以剪切滞后模型的理念为基础,提出以浸胶纱为基本单元的FRP浸胶纱-单筋-拉索多尺度短期静力与长期蠕变预测模型。相比将纤维单丝... 合理而高效的纤维增强复合材料(FRP)拉索性能预测方法可有效解决拉索足尺试验难度大、耗时长等问题。为此,以剪切滞后模型的理念为基础,提出以浸胶纱为基本单元的FRP浸胶纱-单筋-拉索多尺度短期静力与长期蠕变预测模型。相比将纤维单丝作为基本单元的一般模型,该模型具有较高的计算效率,尤其适用于大尺寸FRP拉索的足尺建模分析。以37根4 mm直径单筋的玄武岩纤维增强复合材料(BFRP)拉索作为算例,详细阐述了该模型的建立方法和求解流程,并对静力和蠕变模拟结果进行了分析。其中,模型着重考虑了浸胶纱单元拉伸强度和树脂单元剪切强度的双参数威布尔随机分布、树脂屈服后的界面残余剪应力、浸胶纱单元蠕变断裂寿命模型和树脂基体的长期松弛效应。结果表明:BFRP单筋和拉索静力极限承载力的预测值与试验结果误差均在4%以内,而采用单元平均强度直接换算得到的结果较单筋和拉索预测值分别偏高18.3%和11.3%。在此基础上,模型进一步揭示了由FRP浸胶纱、单筋到拉索的多尺度强度退化规律和拉索内部的短长期损伤演化机理,可为后续拉索性能优化和设计提供支撑。在高应力水平下,较弱单元的提前破坏将直接导致拉索整体过早的失效,进而显著削减整体蠕变寿命;而在低应力水平下,拉索整体的蠕变断裂寿命趋近于浸胶纱单元自身的蠕变寿命。 展开更多

This paper presents the results of fire resistance tests on carbon fiber-reinforced polymer(CFRP)strengthened concrete flexural members,i.e.,T-beams and slabs.The strengthened members were protected with fire insulation and tested under the combined effects of thermal and structural loading.The variables considered in the tests include the applied load level,extent of strengthening,and thickness of the fire insulation applied to the beams and slabs.Furthermore,a previously developed numerical model was validated against the data generated from the fire tests;subsequently,it was utilized to undertake a case study.Results from fire tests and numerical studies indicate that owing to the protection provided by the fire insulation,the insulated CFRP-strengthened beams and slabs can withstand four and three hours of standard fire exposure,respectively,under service load conditions.The insulation layer impedes the temperature rise in the member;therefore,the CFRP-concrete composite action remains active for a longer duration and the steel reinforcement temperature remains below 400°C,which in turn enhances the capacity of the beams and slabs. 展开更多

针对传统点或准分布式传感器不能有效监测在役拉索索体的应力分布问题,提出将纤维增强树脂-光纤(FRP-OF)复合智能筋布设到平行拉索,开发出基于布里渊测试技术的分布式平行钢丝束智能拉索,以实现对其内应力进行全尺度监测。实体拉索的静... 针对传统点或准分布式传感器不能有效监测在役拉索索体的应力分布问题,提出将纤维增强树脂-光纤(FRP-OF)复合智能筋布设到平行拉索,开发出基于布里渊测试技术的分布式平行钢丝束智能拉索,以实现对其内应力进行全尺度监测。实体拉索的静载试验结果表明:在破断索力60%左右的张拉控制力下,RFP-OF复合智能筋的布里渊应变信息能很好地揭示拉索的应力分布状态,测试结果的重复性较好,总平均索力与控制张拉索力的吻合良好,其相对测试误差在5%以内。该智能拉索具有抗电磁干扰、传感距离长、成本低和全尺度测量等优点,可以有效地监测拉索的索力分布情况,符合拉索长期在线健康监测需要。 展开更多
