Recently, a variety of algorithms for this issue have been developed. Each of them is application situation specific and has its advantages and disadvantages. It is highly desired to develop an efficient fingerprint verification technology for Integrated Circuit (IC) Cards or chips. IC cards have some special characteristics, such as very small storage space and slow processing speed, which hinder the use of most fingerprint matching algorithms in such situations. In order to solve this problem, the paper presents an improved minutia-pattern (minutiae-based) matching algorithm by employing the orientation field of the fingerprint as a new feature. Our algorithm not only inherits the advantages of the general minutia-pattern matching algorithms, but also overcomes their. disadvantages. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can greatly improve the performance of fingerprint matching in both accuracy and efficiency, and it is very suitable for applications in IC cards.展开更多

Similarity and hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) were applied to identify the 15 batches of Xiaochaihu granules from different manufacturers and our laboratory, and peak pattern matching between the composite formulae and Radix Bupleuri Chinensis, which was one of the main ingredients of Xiaochaihu granules, was utilized to evaluate the preparation technology of Xiaochaihu granules via the indexes of the relative deviation of retention time (RT) and UV spectrum feature similarity of their corresponding peaks. Eleven matching peaks were found between Xiaochaihu granules and Radix Bupleuri Chinensis. However, the saikosaponin A and saikosaponin D, which are the important active components in Radix Bupleuri Chinensis, were not found in Xiaochaihu granules from any manufacturers. The peak areas of 11 characteristic peaks of Xiaochaihu granules samples formed a matrix of 11 × 15. The result of HCA showed that Xiaochaihu granules samples were divided into four kinds of category. Xiaochaihu granules samples from the same manufacturer were basically clustered of the same category. The results suggested that the saikosaponin A and saikosaponin D are prone to structural transformation under the condition of decoction and in the presence of the organic acidic components. These active components, existing in raw herb, might transform to a series of non-active secondary saikosaponin due to unfavourable preparation technology. So the conventional decoction-based preparation technology of Xiaochaihu granules might greatly affect its quality and therapeutic effectiveness. This study demonstrates that fingerprint-peak matching technology can not only be used for quality control of this composite formulae, but also provide some guidance for preparation technology of Xiaochaihu granules.展开更多

In this paper, we propose a minutia matching method based on line segment vector. This method uses all the detected minutiae (the ridge ending and the ridge bifurcation) in a fingerprint image to create a set of new vectors (line segment vector). Using these vectors, we can determine a truer reference point more efficiently. In addition, this new minutiae vector can also increase the accuracy of the minutiae matching. By experiment on the public domain collections of fingerprint images fvc2004 DID set A and DB4 set A, the result shows that our algorithm can obtain an improved verification performance.展开更多

It is heavily used for pattern recognition and matching tasks like symbol recognition, information retrieval, data mining etc. In all these applications, the objects or underlying data are represented in the form of graph and graph based matching is performed. The conventional algorithms of graph matching have higher complexity. This is because the most of the applications have large number of sub graphs and the matching of these sub graphs becomes computationally expensive. In this paper, we propose a graph based novel algorithm for fingerprint recognition. In our work we perform graph based clustering which reduces the computational complexity heavily. In our algorithm, we exploit structural features of the fingerprint for K-means clustering of the database. The proposed algorithm is evaluated using realtime fingerprint database and the simulation results show that our algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm for the same task.展开更多

Fingerprint is necessary identification recognition of citizens. Fingerprint technology has become more popular and connected to human being life and come to replace traditional identification and verifying recognition today. The fingerprint will continue to substitute the ID of citizens as soon as possible in the future. Fingerprint refers to a complex of combination between gap of ridges and valleys on all of the fingertips. Clearer ridges quality is more convenient to analyze who you are and system can recognize your unique identity. Poorer ridges quality image is a significant problem that system has to improve and enhance the images quality before analyzing the results. Dry and wet ridges are the main issues that developers and researchers need to work on as it provides poor quality image. Medium ridge image is a good condition for analysis, but it also needs to be improved. Therefore, fingerprint images have to control the clearer quality and computing minutiae result and then comparing to templates, which stored in the database. The result will display if it is matched but it will not appear when that person has not yet registered. The paper proposed three algorithms to enhance image, extract minutiae and match with fingerprint templates. The first step, is used to enhance the image quality using brightness and Gabor filters on the fingerprint surface to make ridgelines darker. The second step is to extract minutia. It used to convert the images to binary (0 and 1) and process thinning image with Zhang Suen algorithms. Then, the pictures go through the fixing procedure to correct any missed links, error ridges or spurious minutiae that generated by fingerprint algorithms before they undergo final analysis, calculate location of minutiae and the total of the minutiae on the fingerprint surface. The last step is matching algorithms that can be proof of a person identity by comparing minutiae result with those in the database. If a person has already enrolled, the result will confirm.展开更多

In this paper, a new representative method based on B-Spline curve is proposed to address this problem. The resultant B-Spline curves can represent the global characteristics completely and the curves are analyzable and precise. An algorithm is also proposed to extract the curves from the fingerprint image. In addition to preserve the most information of the fingerprint image, the knot-points number of the B-Spline curve is reduced to minimum in this algorithm. At the same time, the influence of the fingerprint image noise is discussed. In the end, an example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the representation method.
