The demand for effective interventions to improve domain-specific academic outcomes for individuals with special needs at either end of the spectrum has existed for some time.Since the earlier contributions to the literature documenting gifted individuals who were simultaneously exhibiting disabilities, there has been some progress in our understanding. We now know that in individuals with both gifts and disabilities, potentially, either or both of the exceptionalities can obscure the effects of the other, which significantly delays the average time to receive a diagnosis.Such delays in diagnosis detrimentally impact the the form of effective interventions without a diagnosis. The purpose of this paper is t quality of life across various domains because there can be no opportunity to receive help in o determine whether effective interventions exist to improve domain-specific(i.e.,social,emotional,or academic)outcomes for people with both gifts and disabilities.A query was performed using evidence databases TRIP and PDQ for“twice-exceptional,”“Giftedness,”“Disability,”and“intervention.”The four most relevant, freely available studies in English were selected for critique.Despite identifying potential threats to validity among the studies, methodological similarities among them were strong enough to confidently conclude that not only do effective interventions exist for the population of gifted with ADHD,but the outcomes of these interventions may also carry over into other domains resulting in indirect effects. 展开更多

Social emotional literacy(SEL)interventions are widely implemented through schools, with growing evidence for a range of positive child outcomes.Increasingly, such interventions are delivered on online platforms. To date, there is limited evidence about digital SEL interventions in low-and middle-income countries(LMIC).The aim of this study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of children, parents and facilitator of the potential value of addressing SEL via tailored digital intervention. The intervention was designed to help children,in Brazil,to cope during the first COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The intervention was delivered via a digital platform to groups of three children for 45 min per week for nine.Thirteen children, nine parents and nine facilitators were interviewed following the completion of the intervention. The data was analysed through a codebook thematic approach, which led to three themes:empowerment, participatory aspects of the intervention and digital adaptation.Overall, children’s SEL development was reported to be supported during the COVID-19 pandemic,by the application of new skills outside the sessions.Children reported a number of empowering factors such as being heard and belonging.A range of useful participatory tools were identified including storytelling, games, drawings and videos.Blended SEL interventions involving both face-to-face and web-based facilitation could be developed within a tiered model of universal mental health promotion and targeted prevention.Access to online platforms would increase reach to large numbers of children in LMIC,especially in contexts of disadvantage. 展开更多

In this paper, we aim to use an innovative model to integrate applied work on a fast-acting mind-body intervention, Mind-Body Bridging (MBB), with theoretical work based on psychology and neuroscience. In an affect-object generative inference and regulation (AGIR) model, we propose that functional dynamics between two systems, the affect-object thought generation system and the cognitive control system, can guide an individual to achieve homeostasis within self and harmonious relationships with others. We used Neurosynth (www.neurosynth.org), an automated meta-analysis database, to identify potential brain substrates underlying the key components in the AGIR model. Based on the findings, some brain regions are implicated as the key cortical substrates in this model, corroborating our central hypothesis that a hallmark of mind-body wellbeing can be characterized as a low-frequency anti-correlantion between 1) the cognitive control system including the dorsal anterior/middle cingulate cortex, and 2) the affect-object thought generation system including the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and posterior cingulate cortex. MBB provides an efficient strategy for responding to and dissolving a fundamental problem that impairs mind-body wellbeing, i.e., unrealistic identity-grasping consisting of self-centered embodied expectations of self and others. We demonstrated how theoretical and applied work could be integrated by drawing evidence from the neuroscience literature to support the AGIR model, and then we applied the AGIR model to elucidate how MBB might work. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Liver abscess is a common clinical liver disease mainly caused by suppurative bacteria or amoebae, with early clinical signs of chills, high fever, jaundice, and other symptoms.Establishing its early diagnosis is difficult, which may lead to misdiagnosis.AIM To observe the effects of psychological guidance combined with evidence-based health intervention in patients with liver abscess treated with ultrasound.METHODS A total of 120 patients with bacterial liver abscess admitted to our hospital from May 2018 to February 2021 were selected and divided into groups according to their intervention plan.RESULTS After the intervention,Self-Rating Depression Scale,Self-Rating Anxiety Scale,Self-Perceived Burden Scale(SPBS),and quality of life scores(physical functioning, role physical, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social functioning, role emotional, mental health)were lower than before the intervention in the two groups. The observation group had lower negative sentiment,SPBS,and quality of life scores than the control group. In the observation group,31 and 24 patients had good and general compliance, respectively, with a compliance rate of 91.67%,which was significantly higher than that in the control group. The observation group had significantly lower total incidence of incision infection, abdominal abscess, hemorrhage, and severe abdominal pain than the control group.CONCLUSION Three-dimensional psychological guidance combined with evidence-based health intervention in treating liver abscess can reduce patients’burden and negative emotions, improve patient compliance and quality of life, and reduce complications. 展开更多
