National flags are very important symbols of countries.They represent the countries’s authority and dignity of a country.However,there are some occasions where the flags were produced incorrectly(or as frauds)but sti...National flags are very important symbols of countries.They represent the countries’s authority and dignity of a country.However,there are some occasions where the flags were produced incorrectly(or as frauds)but still hung officially without a formal inspection.In this paper,we propose a photogrammetric inspection method for hanging national flags of China,for which only one single image is required to perform the inspection.The proposed method allows automatic estimation of the relative positions and orientation of the pentagrams,so exposure of inappropriate flags can be identified avoided.The method invokes a novel 2D geometric model of a pentagram(five-pointed star)to constrain an adjustment to estimate the camera’s exterior orientation parameters based on a single image of a statically hung flag.Conventional error parameters such as the radial distortion parameters are integrated into the pentagram model to form a calibration process to reduce the 3D reconstruction errors.Once the camera and the distortion parameters are estimated,the relative positions,orientations,and dimensions of all the five pentagrams can be readily computed with independent pentagram fitting so the flag quality can be verified using the national standard.More than 20 different hanging flags were captured to verify the proposed method.The results indicate that the method is flexible and accurate,with an accuracy of 1.1mm for the position/dimension,and 0.2°for the orientation on average.Since the method is based on the proposed geometric model of the pentagram,it can be readily adapted to form another system to verify other countries’national flags containing more than one pentagram.展开更多

The aim of this study is to analyze patients with bilate...Purpose: Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) has been linked to many extra-cardiac manifestations including bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The aim of this study is to analyze patients with bilateral CTS to identify patients with high-risk features or “red flags” for ATTR-CA, identify if systematic screening was done for ATTR-CA and define opportunities for improved detection. Methods: Out of >5000 patients with bilateral CTS evaluated in a single tertiary care center in Southeast Michigan (2010-2016), we retrospectively studied a focused population of patients: men > 50 years and women > 60 years old with bilateral CTS and atrial fibrillation (n = 295). Baseline demographic, comorbidities, and electrocardiographic and echocardiographic findings were analyzed. A high-risk group suspicious for ATTR-CA was identified as patients with bilateral CTS, atrial fibrillation, and concomitant “red flags” including heart failure and left ventricular hypertrophy. Results: Out of 295 patients, 51.2% were female, 75.6% were White, and 22.4% were African American. Upon comparing the high-risk group (n = 67) with the remaining study population (n = 228), both diagnosis of ATTR-CA and mortality were higher among the high-risk group (7.5% vs 0.4% and 43.3% vs 24.6%, respectively, P = 0.003). Conclusions: A substantial number of bilateral CTS patients had additional “red flags” warranting formal evaluation for ATTR-CA;however, systematic evaluation for cardiac amyloidosis was not performed in many patients. This emphasizes that Multidisciplinary collaboration is needed to create a systematic workflow and to raise awareness amongst cardiologists and other physicians for suspecting ATTR-CA in bilateral CTS patients who have additional “red flags”.展开更多

This article is the memoirs of the author’s long-time research on the Neo-Confucian history of the Chosun dynasty Korea.The author recalled his academic achievement of the several stages of the historical changes of ...This article is the memoirs of the author’s long-time research on the Neo-Confucian history of the Chosun dynasty Korea.The author recalled his academic achievement of the several stages of the historical changes of Korean society with the Neo-Confucianism.The time range covered from the late 14th century to the nineteenth century.The research position was adhered to the view of the positive function of Confucianism which aimed to overcome the negative understanding highly influenced by the Japanese colonialism.He examined the socio-economic development accompanied with the Neo-Confucianism at the first stage.In the part of the sixteenth century the formation of Sarim group was interpreted as critical forces and the prevailed factionalism as the principle of politics rather than the chronic political strife.The author introduced his unique achievement that the ideology of the Neo-Confucianism had been strongly intensified with the response to the long term natural catastrophes of the Little Ice Age(c.1490-1760).The republican concept of 18th-century impartial rulers,the most important achievement of Korean Neo-Confucianism,was viewed as the result of effort to overcome the natural disasters.This topic was connected to the concept of republic which shows in a diagram of the Korean national flag.展开更多
