In shipping and aircraft engineering, the vibrating motor or instrumentationis usually mounted on a non-rigid base. To apply isolation design effectively, it is necessary toinvestigate the nature vibration characteristics of the rigid motor, flexible base coupled system. Auniversal dynamic express for the coupled system is derived. A PC-based measurement solution ispresented. And the system's dynamic behavior is then investigated numerically and experimentally.The results show that a strong interaction will exist between the motor's rigid mode and theflexible base's mode when the motor's mounting frequency is close to the flexible base's firstnatural frequency. The first natural frequency of the coupled system is generally lower than themotor's rigid mode frequency. At high frequency, the flexible base's modes are the dominant modes ofthe coupled system. 展开更多

The damage detection procedureproposed by Nobahari et al. [Nobahari and Seyedpoor (2013)] is used to detect thedamage in the members of the frame. In the present study, instead of using the flexibilitymatrix (referred here as original flexibility matrix) method, the generalized flexibilitymatrix is used in the same algorithm and the results are compared. The algorithm usesflexibility matrix and strain energy concept to detect the damage in the members. Thebehaviour of the frame is discussed through changes observed in flexibility in theassociated degree of freedom. Finally, the results indicate that, the damage indexdetermined by generalized flexibility matrix method is more reliable than using theoriginal flexibility matrix based method for the problem of settlement and rotation offooting base. 展开更多

The use of advanced carbon nanomaterials for flexible antenna sensors has attracted great attention due to their outstanding electromechanical properties. However, carbon nanomaterial based composites have yet to overcome drawbacks, such as low conductivity and toughness. In this work, a flexible multi-layer graphene film(FGF) with a high conductivity of 10~6 S/m for antenna based wearable sensors is investigated. A 1.63 GHz FGF antenna sensor exhibits significantly high strain sensitivity of 9.8 for compressive bending and 9.36 for tensile bending, which is super than the copper antenna sensor(5.39 for compressive bending and 4.05 for tensile bending). Moreover, the FGF antenna sensor shows very good mechanical flexibility, reversible deformability and structure stability, and thus is well suited for applications like wearable devices and wireless strain sensing. 展开更多

We report a simple solution-processed method for the fabrication of low-cost,flexible optical limiting materials based on graphene oxide(GO) impregnated polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) sheets.Such GO–PVA composite sheets display highly efficient broadband optical limiting activities for femtosecond laser pulses at 400,800,and 1400 nm with very low limiting thresholds.Femtosecond pump–probe measurement results revealed that nonlinear absorption played an important role for the observed optical limiting activities.High flexibility and efficient optical limiting activities of these materials allow these composite sheets to be attached to nonplanar optical sensors in order to protect them from light-induced damage. 展开更多

A flexible polarization demultiplexing method based on an adaptive Kalman filter(AKF) is proposed in which the process noise covariance has been estimated adaptively. The proposed method may significantly improve the adaptive capability of an extended Kalman filter(EKF) by adaptively estimating the unknown process noise covariance. Compared to the conventional EKF, the proposed method can avoid the tedious and time consuming parameter-by-parameter tuning operations. The effectiveness of this method is confirmed experimentally in 128 Gb/s 16 QAM polarization-division-multiplexing(PDM) coherent optical transmission systems. The results illustrate that our proposed AKF has a better tracking accuracy and a faster convergence(about 4 times quicker)compared to a conventional algorithm with optimal process noise covariance. 展开更多
