Wind-only load cases, wave-only load cases and combined wind and wave load cases were analyzed separately for the Wind Star TLP system to identify the dominant excitation loads. Comparisons between an NREL offshore 5-MW baseline wind turbine installed on land and the Wind Star TLP system were performed. Statistics of selected response variables in specified design load cases(DLCs) were obtained and analyzed. It is found that the proposed Wind Star TLP system has small dynamic responses to environmental loads and it thus has almost the same mean generator power output under operating conditions as the land-based system. The tension mooring system has a sufficient safety factor, and the minimum tendon tension is always positive in all selected DLCs. The ratio of ultimate load of the tower base fore-aft bending moment for the Wind Star TLP system versus the land-based system can be as high as 1.9 in all of the DLCs considered. These results will help elucidate the dynamic characteristics of the proposed Wind Star TLP system, identify the difference in load effect between it and land-based systems, and thus make relevant modifications to the initial design for the Wind Star TLP system.展开更多

However, both the methods have their own limitations at present. In this study, the dynamic responses of a 5 MW OC3 spar-type floating wind turbine designed for a water depth of 200 m are numerically investigated and validated by a 1:50 scaled model test. Moreover, the discrepancies between the numerical calculations and model tests are obtained and discussed. According to the discussions, it is found that the surge and pitch are coupled with the mooring tensions, but the heave is independent of them. Surge and pitch are mainly induced by wave under wind wave conditions. Wind and current will induce the low-frequency average responses, while wave will induce the fluctuation ranges of the responses. In addition, wave will induce the wavefrequency responses but wind and current will restrain the ranges of the responses.展开更多

In this scheme, the control law is constructed in terms of estimated values for the bounds of the unknown coefficients, where these values are continuously updated by adaptive laws to ensure asymptotic convergence to zero for the output function. The proposed controller is applied to solve the problem of pitch angle regulation for a floating wind turbine with dynamic uncertainty and external disturbances. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the validity of the designed controller to achieve the desired pitch angle for the floating turbine's body.展开更多

As the scale of turbines increases, wake interference between turbines becomes increasingly significant, especially for floating wind turbines(FWT).Some researchers find that wind farms with multiple hub heights could increase the annual energy production(AEP),while previous studies also indicate that wake meandering could increase fatigue loading. This study investigates the wake interaction within a hybrid floating wind farm with multiple hub heights. In this study, FAST.Farm is employed to simulate a hybrid wind farm which consists of four semi-submersible FWTs(5MW and 15MW) with two different hub heights. Three typical wind speeds(below-rated, rated, and over-rated) are considered in this paper to investigate the wake meandering effects on the dynamics of two FWTs. Damage equivalent loads(DEL) of the turbine critical components are computed and analyzed for several arrangements determined by the different spacing of the four turbines. The result shows that the dynamic wake meandering significantly affects downstream turbines’ global loadings and load effects. Differences in DEL show that blade-root flapwise bending moments and mooring fairlead tensions are sensitive to the spacing of the turbines.展开更多

The offshore floating wind turbines(OFWTs) draw a great deal of attention recently as a means to exploit the steadier and stronger wind resources available in deep water seas. This paper studies the hydrodynamic characteristics of a spar-type wind turbine known as the OC3-Hywind concept and the dynamic responses of the turbine. Response characteristics of motions and mooring loads of the system under different sea states are evaluated and the effects of the loads induced by the wind and the wave on the system are discussed. The calculations are carried out with the numerical simulation code FAST in the time domain and the frequency analysis is made by using the FFT method. The results and the conclusions from this paper might help better understand the behavior characteristics of the floating wind turbine system under actual ocean environments and provide valuable data in design and engineering practice.展开更多

A dynamics model for offshore floating wind turbine with a fore-aft TMD is established based on Lagrange equation; Parameter identification of the wind turbine is performed by the non-linear least squares Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm; Parameter optimization of the TMD is researched when considering the standard deviation of the tower top longitudinal displacements as the objective function. Aiming at five typical combined wind and wave load cases under normal running state of the wind turbine, the dynamic responses of the wind turbine with/without TMD are simulated and the suppression effect of the TMD is investigated. The results show that : there exists the optimum TMD mass ratio 1.8% when the damped free vibration of the wind turbine, and the standard deviation of the tower top longitudinal displacements is decreased 60% in 100 seconds by the optimized TMD. The standard deviation suppression rates of the longitudinal displacements and loads about the tower and blades increase with the increasing TMD mass ratio when the wind turbine vibration under the combined wind and wave load cases, and when the mass ratio changes from 0.5% to 2%, the maximum suppression rates are from 20% to 50%, which effectively reduce the vibration responses of the wind turbine. The research results of this paper preliminarily verify the feasibilities of using TMD for restraining vibration of the offshore floating wind turbine展开更多

文摘This paper discusses the damage identification in the mooring line system of a floating wind turbine(FWT)exposed to various environmental loads. The proposed method incorporates a non-probabilistic method into artificial neural networks(ANNs).The non-probabilistic method is used to overcome the problem of uncertainties. For this purpose, the interval analysis method is used to calculate the lower and upper bounds of ANNs input data. This data contains some of the natural frequencies utilized to train two different ANNs and predict the output data which is the interval bounds of mooring line stiffness.Additionally,in order to reduce computational time and more importantly, identify damage in various conditions, the proposed method is trained using constant loads(CL)case(deterministic loads, including constant wind speed and airy wave model)and is tested using random loads(RL)case(including Kaimal wind model and JONSWAP wave theory). The superiority of this method is assessed by applying the deterministic method for damage identification. The results demonstrate that the proposed non-probabilistic method identifies the location and severity of damage more accurately compared to a deterministic one. This superiority is getting more remarkable as the difference in uncertainty levels between training and testing data is increasing.
文摘In this paper, a modified sliding-mode adaptive controller is derived to achieve stability and output regulation for a class of dynamical systems represented by a non-homogeneous differential equation with unknown time-varying coefficients and unknown force function. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the validity of the designed controller to achieve the desired pitch angle for the floating turbine's body.

文摘Cost-effective floating wind turbines with efficient installations are highly desired in deep waters(>50 m).This paper presents a submerged floating offshore wind turbines(SFOWT)concept for intermediate water depths(50-200 m).The performance of SFOWTs can be improved through a judicious choice of configuration, pretension, and mooring line layout.Four SFOWTs with different configurations and a similar mass, named Cyl-4,Cub-4,Cyl-3,and Hex-3,were designed and analyzed. The responses of the four SFOWTs were predicted under operational condition and extreme condition. The results show that the four SFOWTs exhibited good performance under both conditions. The effect of platform configurations on power output was negligible under the operational condition.Under the extreme condition, among the four SFOWTs,the mean bending moments at the tower base were very close, while the maximum values differed by up to 21.5%,due to the configurations. The effect of wind-wave misalignment under the extreme condition was further analyzed. In general, the motion performances of the four-pontoon SFOWTs,Cyl-4 and Cub-4,were superior to those of the three-pontoon SFOWTs,Cyl-3 and Hex-3.Optimization studies of the mooring system were carried out on Cub-4 with different mooring line pretensions and four mooring layouts. The optimized Cub-4 could reduce the maximum motion responses in the surge, heave, and yaw by 97.7%,91.5%,and 98.7%,respectively.

文摘Recently, semisubmersible floating offshore wind turbine technologies have received considerable attention. For the coupled simulation of semisubmersible floating offshore wind energy, the platform is usually considered a rigid model, which could affect the calculation accuracy of the dynamic responses. The dynamic responses of a TripleSpar floating offshore wind turbine equipped with a 10 MW offshore wind turbine are discussed herein. The simulation of a floating offshore wind turbine under regular waves, white noise waves, and combined wind-wave conditions is conducted. The effects of the tower and platform flexibility on the motion and force responses of the TripleSpar semisubmersible floating offshore wind turbine are investigated. The results show that the flexibility of the tower and platform can influence the dynamic responses of a TripleSpar semisubmersible floating offshore wind turbine.Considering the flexibility of the tower and platform, the tower and platform pitch motions markedly increased compared with the fully rigid model. Moreover, the force responses, particularly for tower base loads, are considerably influenced by the flexibility of the tower and platform. Thus, the flexibility of the tower and platform for the coupled simulation of floating offshore wind turbines must be appropriately examined.
文摘There are increasing focuses on developing cost-effective floating wind turbines, for which efficient stress analysis methods are needed for floater structural design. Most of the today’s studies focus on global analysis methods in which the floater is assumed as a rigid body or multiple rigid bodies and the stress distributions in the floater cannot be directly obtained. As part of the COWI Fonden funded EMULF project,a summary about the methodology, the numerical modeling procedure and the verification for stress response analysis of a semi-submersible floater for a 15MW wind turbine is presented. This analy-sis procedure includes the regeneration of the hydrodynamic pressure loads on the external wet surface of the floater due to wave diffraction, radiation and hydrostatic pressure change, and the application of these pressure loads, together with the time-varying gravity due motions, the inertial loads and the forces/moments at the boundaries(i.e.tower bottom and mooring line fairleads)of the floater to obtain the deformation and the stresses of the floater in the time domain. The analysis procedure is imple-mented in a developed MATLAB code and the DNV software package. The importance of the different hydrodynamic pressure components was discussed considering representative sea states.A verification of the obtained stress time series and statistics using this method against the regeneration from a linear frequency-domain approach was made considering irregular wave actions only, and a very good agree-ment was obtained. The developed methodology can provide an efficient solution for structural design analysis of floating wind turbines.

文摘In this study, the frequency characteristics of the turbulent wind and the effects of wind-wave coupling on the low-and high-frequency responses of semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbines(FOWT)are investigated.Various wave load components, such as first-order wave loads, combined first-and second-order difference-frequency wave loads, combined first-and second-order sum-frequency wave loads, and first-and complete second-order wave loads are taken into consideration, while different turbulent environments are considered in aerodynamic loads. The com-parison is based on time histories and frequency spectra of platform motions and structural load responses and statistical values. The findings indicate that the second-order difference-frequency wave loads will significantly increase the natural frequency of low-frequency motion in the responses of the platform motion and structure load of the semi-submersible platform, which will cause structural fatigue damage.Under the action of turbulent wind, the influences of second-order wave loads on the platform motion and structural load response cannot be ignored, especially under extreme sea conditions. Therefore,in order to evaluate the dynamic responses of semi-submersible FOWT more accurately, the actual environment should be simulated more realistically.

文摘Wind farms generally consist of a single turbine installed with the same hub height. Differences in DEL show that blade-root flapwise bending moments and mooring fairlead tensions are sensitive to the spacing of the turbines.

文摘Due to the energy crisis and the environmental issues like pollution and global warming, the exploration for renewable and clean energies becomes crucial. The results and the conclusions from this paper might help better understand the behavior characteristics of the floating wind turbine system under actual ocean environments and provide valuable data in design and engineering practice.

文摘Floating wind turbines(FWTs) are subjected to combined aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loads varying both in time and amplitude. In this study, a multi-column tension-leg-type FWT(i.e., Wind Star TLP system) is investigated for its global performance under normal operating conditions and when parked. The selected variables are analysed using a fully coupled aero-hydro-servo-elastic time domain simulation tool FAST.Three different loading scenarios(wind only, wave only and both combined) are examined to identify the dominant load influencing each response. The key response variables are obtained and compared with those for an NREL5 MW baseline wind turbine installed on land. The results should aid the detailed design of the Wind Star TLP system.
文摘In order to suppress the responses of the large vibration displacements and loads of the offshore floating wind turbine under the harsh marine environment, an effect method for restraining vibration, putting tuned mass dampers (TMD) in the cabin of wind turbine, is proposed in this paper. The research results of this paper preliminarily verify the feasibilities of using TMD for restraining vibration of the offshore floating wind turbine

文摘Tower, Spar platform and mooring system are designed in the project based on a given 6-MW wind turbine. Under wind-induced only, wave-induced only and combined wind and wave induced loads, dynamic response is analyzed for a 6-MW Spar-type floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) under operating conditions and parked conditions respectively. Comparison with a platform-fixed system (land-based system) ofa 6-MW wind turbine is carried out as well. Results demonstrate that the maximal out-of-plane deflection of the blade of a Spar-type system is 3.1% larger than that of a land-based system; the maximum response value of the nacelle acceleration is 215% larger for all the designed load cases being considered; the ultimate tower base fore-aft bending moment of the Spar-type system is 92% larger than that of the land-based system in all of the Design Load Cases (DLCs) being considered; the fluctuations of the mooring tension is mainly wave-induced, and the safety factor of the mooring tension is adequate for the 6-MW FOWT. The results can provide relevant modifications to the initial design for the Spar-type system, the detailed design and model basin test of the 6-MW Spar-type system.
