Traceability system has received wide attention in solving food safety issues, via which food information could be tracked back to producer/farmers. Consumers need to obtain this information from producers or social networks, trust in the information,and consequently assess perceived risks, especially when food scandals are exposed to the media. In this study, we introduce the social embeddedness theory to understand how consumers’ social activities affect their risk perceptions on traceable food. Specifically, we investigate how risk perceptions are predicted by the interpersonal relationships, organizational level and social-level relationships. Results show that the interpersonal relationships were associated with lower levels of risk perceptions, while organizational and social relationships impacted consumer’s risk perceptions at middle and higher levels,respectively. Results also show that the "ripple effect" extended to effect of risk events with negative information, however,did not exist for the group exposed to positive information. Potential food safety implications have been proposed to identify for effective risk mitigation under media coverages. 展开更多

With the college students as the object of study,this paper explores the differences in perceived genetically modified food risk by the college students with different majors,as well as the differences in the information processing mode adopted by the college students with different majors,and the differences in the perceived risk after adopting different information processing mode. The results show that there are significant differences in the perceived genetically modified food risk among the college students with different majors,the economics students have the highest average perceived risk; there are also significant differences in the information processing mode adopted by the college students with different majors,and the perceived risk is different when using the heuristic information processing mode. 展开更多

The use of food additives in industrial production has the advantage of improving sensory properties, technological quality and extending the shelf life of foods. Among the most widely used additives are antioxidants, which prevent oxidation, browning and rancidity reactions in foods. However, the strong presence of these additives on the market is not without risks for human health, and should be controlled to guarantee food safety. Analysis of the risks associated with consumption of foods containing these additives requires, among other things, information on the frequency of use of these additives in various consumer products. The aim of this study is therefore to identify the antioxidants present in industrial food products distributed in Dakar. The methodology adopted consists of a qualitative analysis based on the identification of additives from food labels. Investigations were carried out in 9 stores, 4 superettes and 2 supermarkets located in different districts of Dakar. The results revealed the presence of 12 antioxidant additives, dominated by citric acid (53%) and ascorbic acid (29%). These studies have also highlighted the simultaneous use of several antioxidants in the same food product. Moreover, for some artificial antioxidants identified antioxydant such as BHA and BHT, health risks are associated with their consumption. The results of this study open up prospects for the development of information databases on food additives. 展开更多

Objective To assess the net health effect caused by the consumption of specific marine species based on Benefit-Risk Analysis for Foods (BRAFO)-tiered approach. Methods Twenty species were collected from the Zhoushan Archipelago, China. Concentrations of n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, methyl mercury (MeHg), and dioxin-like compounds (DLCs) in the samples were analyzed for benefit risk assessment based on BRAFO-tiered approach. Results Based on the BRAFO-tiered approach, reference scenario (no intake) and alternative scenario (intake of specific species of 200 g/week) were determined. The exposure to MeHg/DLCs via alternative scenario of all studied species did not exceed provisional tolerable weekly/monthly intake. However, the adult population with high DLCs exposure in China would significantly exceed the upper limit of DLCs via an additional alternative scenario of some species such as Auxis thazard. The results of deterministic computation showed that alternative scenario of all studied species generated clear net beneficial effects on death prevention and child IQ gain. Conclusion The alternative scenario of all studied species could be recommended to population with average DLCs exposure, and the reference scenario of species with relatively high DLCs concentration could be recommended to population exposed to high DLCs. 展开更多

This study was to analyze the risk of sulfites in food consumed by the Chinese people and assess the health protection capability of maximum-permitted level (MPL) of sulfites in GB 2760-2011. Sulfites as food additives are overused or abused in many food categories. When the MPL in GB 2760-2011 was used as sulfites content in food, the intake of sulfites in most surveyed populations was lower than the acceptable daily intake (ADI). Excess intake of sulfites was found in all the surveyed groups when a high percentile of sulfites in food was intaken. Moreover, children aged 1-6 years are at a high risk to intake excess sulfites. The primary cause for the excess intake of sulfites in Chinese people is the overuse and abuse of sulfites by the food industry. The current MPL of sulfites in GB 2760-2011 protects the health of most populations. 展开更多

To determine the relationshipof dietary factors to cardiovascular disease, surveys were carried out in 1985 (pilot study) and 1989 (core study) as a part of the International Cooperative Cardiovascular Diseases and Alimentary Comparison (CARDIAC) study. Food pattern was observed and blood pressure was measured with an automatic electronic sphygromanometer. The diet in Guangzhou seems more refined, fresher and offers more variety than that in the other areas in China. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure have risen in the period of socioeco-nomic development. Food intake habits are changing in Guangdong, China, with a trend toward an unhealthy diet which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. 展开更多

Hundreds of children died in 2010 due to suspected lead poisoning from mining sources in Zamfara State among epidemiological concerns. Evaluating ecological and human health risks of heavy metals levels in sampled food crops harvested near two abandoned Lead-Zinc mining sites at Logo Benue State is crucial. <i>Abelmoschus esculentus</i>, <i>Carica papaya</i>, <i>Manihot esculenta</i>, and <i>Zea mays</i> were sampled, prepared, and analyzed for four heavy metals using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric method. The mean data from the analysis of variance was subjected to ecological and health risk models. Pb means value ranged from <i>Carica papaya</i> Peel 0.46 ± 0.011 mg/kg to 1.30 ± 0.01 mg/kg in <i>Zea mays</i> seed. Zn was highest in <i>Carica papaya</i> flesh 0.50 ± 0.01 mg/kg, and lowest in <i>Manihot esculenta</i> peels and its flesh 0.12 ± 0.000 mg/kg. Hg and Cd were below detectable levels. <i>Zea mays</i> <i>seeds</i> (1.001) had the highest Pd bioaccumulation factor. BAF of zinc and ecological indices were <1. Daily Intake of Metals were all <1, however, Hazard Quotient (HQ) of Pb was ≥1 in <i>Manihot esculenta</i> flesh 1.143 and Zea mays at 1714. Cancer Risks were within permissible range (10<sup>-4</sup> - 10<sup>-6</sup>). Health Risk result indicates communities around the mining area may be at risk of lead poisoning therefore due to high contamination of samples, routine checks on heavy metals especially lead is recommended to prevent excessive bioaccumulation in the body. 展开更多

新发展格局下中国粮食安全面临的风险挑战及其治理

当代中国粮食供求紧平衡态势将长期存在,但受国内外风险因素叠加影响,这种紧平衡态势很可能因某种因素突出而被暂时打破,粮食短缺局面将持续数年时间才有可能恢复到紧平衡状态。国内外风险挑战目前主要涉及如下几个方面:显性耕地数量质... 当代中国粮食供求紧平衡态势将长期存在,但受国内外风险因素叠加影响,这种紧平衡态势很可能因某种因素突出而被暂时打破,粮食短缺局面将持续数年时间才有可能恢复到紧平衡状态。国内外风险挑战目前主要涉及如下几个方面:显性耕地数量质量仍齐降,隐性耕地有遭毁风险;自然灾害风险有加重趋势,病虫害呈现频发态势;农民种粮意愿仍继续降低,“非粮化”压力偏大;粮食贸易的不可控性大增,全球供应链频繁遭冲;粮食应急保障体系有短板,乡镇村社能力较脆弱;粮食购销风险隐患顽疾多,数量质量须持续关注。此外,水资源供需矛盾持续凸显、育种全链条创新明显不足、农机研发及应用距离世界先进水平仍有差距、化肥农药物品投入强度高但资源利用效率比较低、基层农技推广人员数量不足和素质有待提升、粮食隐形浪费现象还不同程度存在甚至有反弹风险、粮食供应难以满足居民消费提档升级需求等风险也不容忽视。在这众多风险挑战中,国内因素应对风险准备不足是最重要因素。防范粮食安全保障风险,既要有底线思维以保最基本民生,又要有目标追求以夯实社会主义现代化强国的根基。围绕“全方位夯实粮食安全根基”总要求,具体治理建议是:贯彻落实好《粮食安全保障法》,以宪法为中心完善粮食安全法体系;全方位夯实粮源汇集之根基,持续巩固多渠道稳定汇集粮源能力;全方位提升粮食供应之能力,畅通粮食保供环节“最后一公里”;全方位筑牢粮食安全之屏障,明确把粮食安全纳入公益诉讼范围。 展开更多
