The Three Gorges project accelerates economic development in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area. This paper aimed to investigate the distribution, changes and features of cultivated land in this area, analyze the forces driving the changes in cultivated land area, and propose the countermeasures for cultivated land management.Transition matrix was used to analyze the features of cultivated land changes, and quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis were adopted to research the driving forces according to the features of cultivated land changes.Cultivated land in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area mainly lay to the northwest of the Yangtze River, especially the upper reaches. The areas of cultivated land increased from 1996 to 1999,then decreased from 2000 to 2006,and finally increased again from 2007 to 2009.The important forces driving changes in cultivated land included government policies, employment and food security, increasing construction land, agriculture structure adjustment, land rearrangement, inundation.During cultivated land management, firstly,it is necessary to insist on the principle of cultivated land protection, standardize land exploitation and strictly restrict the transformation of cultivated land into non-farming land.Secondly, land rearrangement must be implemented, which can not only increase the area of the cultivated land, but also improve the quality of the cultivated land.Thirdly,it is feasible to intensify eco-agriculture construction to increase the quantity and quality of cultivated land.Fourthly,it is helpful to improve the traditional agriculture production methods to promote cultivated land quality.Lastly,it is important to propagandize cultivated land protection and realize the enormous pressure of cultivated land shortage, making more people obligated to protect cultivated land. 展开更多

BACKGROUND: The detection of motor evoked potential is utilized to explore neuromuscular finger coordination. The influence of transcranial magnetic stimulation on finger force has been investigated mainly on a single finger, and only time-dependent increased target finger force has been detected in the finger force task. OBJECTIVE: To explore the neural mechanism of finger force coordination in the motor cortex by observing the influence of various finger coordination patterns and patterns of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-induced finger force changes. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Neurophysiological and behavioral study was performed at the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of Chongqing University from April to June 2008. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 10 healthy, university students, comprising 5 males and 5 females, aged 21-23 years, voluntarily participated in this study. All participants were right-handed, with normal or corrected vision. Individuals with upper limb complaints or other musculoskeletal disorders were excluded. METHODS: A target force-tracking task was conducted on the index finger, the index and middle fingers, and four fingers (index, middle, ring, and little), respectively. Target force trace in a single trial consisted of a 6-second ramp phase, a 20-second constant phase, and a 6-second drop phase. During experimentation, an unpredictable single-pulse TMS (120% motor threshold) was applied to the primary motor cortex (M1) in each phase. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes in peak force induced by TMS were obtained for each finger pattern during each force-tracking phase. Differences in force changes were tested between different finger pattems with regard to ramp, constant, and drop phases of target force. RESULTS: Under ramp, constant, and drop phases of target force, the increase in magnetic stimulation-induced finger forces changes positively correlated with the number of fingers involved in the force tracking task. The magnetic stimulation-induced force changes from the index finger were less than the combination of the index and middle fingers or all four fingers under the corresponding target force, and the force changes from the combination of the index and middle fingers were less than all four fingers, Le., index finger 〈 index and middle fingers 〈 four fingers. CONCLUSION: Different neuromuscular mechanisms could be involved in finger force production for different finger combination patterns. Results from the present study suggested that independent motor neurons regulated individual finger force production. 展开更多

Analyzing spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and land cover over time is widely recognized as important to better understand and provide solutions for social, economic, and environmental problems, especially in ecologically fragile region. In this paper, a case study was taken in Zhenlai County, which is a part of farming-pastoral ecotone of Northeast China. This study seeks to use multi-temporal satellite images and other data from various sources to analyze spatiotemporal changes from 1932 to 2005, and applied a quantitative methodology named intensity analysis in the time scale of decades at three levels: time interval, category, and transition. The findings of the case study are as follows: 1) the interval level of intensity analysis revealed that the annual rate of overall change was relatively fast in 1932–1954 and 1954–1976 time intervals. 2) The category level showed that arable land experienced less intensively gains and losses if the overall change was to have been distributed uniformly across the landscape while the gains and losses of forest land, grassland, water, settlement, wetland and other unused land were not consistent and stationary across the four time intervals. 3) The transition level illustrated that arable land expanded at the expense of grassland before 2000 while it gained intensively from wetland from 2000 to 2005. Settlement targets arable land and avoids grassland, water, wetland and other unused land. Besides, the loss of grassland was intensively targeted by arable land, forest land and wetland in the study period while the loss of wetland was targeted by water except for the time interval of 1976–2000. 4) During the early reclamation period, land use change of the study area was mainly affected by the policy, institutional and political factors, followed by the natural disasters. 展开更多

As more and more farmland is converted to forestry, the need for effective decision support regarding the use of land in the fragile ecological environment of the Loess Plateau hilly-gully area. The Luoyugou watershed was chosen as the study area to calculate the single dynamic degree, integrated dynamic degree, and change indexes of land use, as well as the land-use type transition matrix. This was done by interpreting the TM and SPOT images of the Luoyugou watershed in 1986, 1995, and2004 and making statistical analysis. The results of ou statistical analysis show that the conversion of slope farm land to terrace and forest land plays a dominant role in land-use changes in the Luoyugou watershed from 1986 to2004. The land-use changes are mainly driven by popula tion growth, socio-economic development, consume spending, and investment in forest ecology. 展开更多

Based on observations and historical simulations from the fifth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP5) archive, the contributions of human activities(including greenhouse gases(GHGs), anthropogenic aerosols(AAs), and land use(LU)) and external natural forcings(Nat) to climate changes in China over the past 50 years were quantified. Both anthropogenic and external natural forcings account for 95%–99% of the observed temperature change from 1951–1975 to 1981–2005. In particular, the temperature changes induced by GHGs are approximately 2–3 times stronger than the observed changes, and AAs impose a significant cooling effect. The total external forcings can explain 65%–78% of the observed precipitation changes over the past 50 years, in which AAs and GHGs are the primary external forcings leading to the precipitation changes; in particular, AAs dominate the main spatial features of precipitation changes in eastern China. Human activities also dominate the long-term non-linear trends in observed temperature during the past several decades, and, in particular, GHGs, the primary warming contributor, have produced significant warming since the 1960 s. Compared to the long-term non-linear trends in observed precipitation, GHGs have largely caused the wetting changes in the arid-semiarid region since the 1970 s, whereas AAs have led to the drying changes in the humid-semihumid region; both LU and Nat can impose certain impacts on the long-term non-linear trends in precipitation. Using the optimal fingerprinting detection approach, the effects of human activities on the temperature changes can be detected and attributed in China, and the effect of GHGs can be clearly detected from the observations in humid-semihumid areas. However, the anthropogenic effects cannot be detected in the observed precipitation changes, which may be due to the uncertainties in the model simulations and to other issues. Although some results in this paper still need improvement due to uncertainties in the coupled models, this study is expected to provide the background and scientific basis for climate changes to conduct vulnerability and risk assessments of the ecological systems and water resources in the arid-semiarid region of China. 展开更多

Earthquake prediction is a common scientific challenge for academics worldwide. This dilemma originates from the lack of precursory indicators that meet the sufficient and necessary conditions of earthquake occurrence, which may be the root cause of the failure of earthquake prediction. In light of this,a double-block catastrophic mechanics theory for earthquakes based on cross-fault Newton force measurement is proposed herein.Based on this theory and laboratory physical model tests of seismic Newton force monitoring,a new academic thought is envisioned“the sufficient and necessary condition for earthquake occurrence is the change of Newton force, and the sudden drop of Newton force on the fault surface can be used as a predictor of earthquake disaster.”Several equipment systems have been independently developed, and the technology has been successfully applied to engineering practice. This concept has currently been proven in small-scale double-block catastrophic events such as landslides.Based on the double-block catastrophic mechanics theory, landslides and earthquakes have the similar nature but different scales.According to the on-site monitoring of landslides,it is verified that the sudden drop of Newton force can be used as a predictor of landslide disaster which successfully solves the problem of short-term landslide prediction. The introduction of cross-fault Newton force measurement technology and idea has laid a foundation for improving the method and level of international earthquake monitoring and solving the world-class scientific problem of short-term earthquake prediction. 展开更多
