A nanosecond response waveguide electro-optic (EO) switch based on ultraviolet (UV) sensitive polymers of Norland optical adhesive (NOA73) and Dispersed Red 1 (DR1) doped SU-8 (DR1/SU-8) is designed and fabr...A nanosecond response waveguide electro-optic (EO) switch based on ultraviolet (UV) sensitive polymers of Norland optical adhesive (NOA73) and Dispersed Red 1 (DR1) doped SU-8 (DR1/SU-8) is designed and fabricated. The absorption properties, refractive indexes, and surface morphologies of NOA73 film are characterized. The single-mode transmission condition is computed by the effective index method, and the percentage of optical field distributed in EO layer is optimized to be 93.78 %. By means of spin-coating, thermal evaporation, photolithography, and inductively coupled plasma etching, a Mach-Zehnder inverted-rib waveguide EO switch with micro-strip line electrode is fabricated on a silicon substrate. Scanning electron microscope characterization proves the physic-chemical compatibility between NOA73 cladding and DR1/SU-8 core material. The optical transmission loss of the fabricated switch is measured to be 2.5 dB/cm. The rise time and fall time of switching are 3.199 ns and 2.559 ns, respectively. These results indicate that the inverted-rib wave- guide based on UV-curable polymers can effectively reduce the optical transmission loss and improve the time response performance of an EO switch.展开更多

The origins of the optical switching effect were discussed. By the study of nonlinear optical properties for HBT in ethanol solvent, this paper verified that the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) effect of HBT and the thermal effect of solvent worked on quite different time scales and together induced the change of the refractive index of HBT solution, leading to the signal beam deflection. The results indicated that the HBT molecule could be an excellent candidate for high-speed and high-sensitive optical switching devices.展开更多
Bearingless switched reluctance motor(BSRM) not only combines the merits of bearingless motor(BM) and switched reluctance motor(SRM), but also decreases the vibration and acoustic noise of SRM, so it could be a strong...Bearingless switched reluctance motor(BSRM) not only combines the merits of bearingless motor(BM) and switched reluctance motor(SRM), but also decreases the vibration and acoustic noise of SRM, so it could be a strong candidate for high-speed driving fields. Under the circumstances, a 12/14 BSRM with hybrid stator pole has been proposed due to its high output torque density and excellent decoupling characteristics between torque and suspension force. However, this motor has torque dead-zone, which leads to problems of self-start at some rotor positions and large torque ripple during normal operation. To solve the existing problems in the 12/14 type, an asymmetric rotor pole type BSRM is proposed. The structure and design process of the proposed motor is presented in detail. The characteristics of the proposed motor is analyzed and compared with that of the 12/14 type. Furthermore, prototype of the proposed structure is designed, manufactured and experimented. Finally, simulation and test results are illustrated and analyzed to prove the validity of the proposed structure.展开更多
Based on the 6-pole outer stator(armature winding-stator),the influence of inner(permanent magnet-stator)/outer stator pole ratio n(n=NIS/NOS),stator relative positions and rotor pole number combinations on electromag...Based on the 6-pole outer stator(armature winding-stator),the influence of inner(permanent magnet-stator)/outer stator pole ratio n(n=NIS/NOS),stator relative positions and rotor pole number combinations on electromagnetic performance of partitioned stator switched flux permanent magnet(PM)machines(PS-SFPMMs)is investigated in this paper.Since the armature windings and PMs are located in two separated stators and PMs are stationary,PS-SFPMMs have high fault tolerance capabilities.To maximize the torque performance,the PM of inner stator pole should be aligned with outer stator pole when n is odd while the iron rib of inner stator pole should be aligned with outer stator pole when n is even.No matter what n is selected,the rotor pole number NR can be any integers except the phase number and its multiples.The analysis results indicate that the optimal NR is closed to(NIS+NOS)/2 and it is odd when n is odd while it is even when n is even.Meanwhile,symmetrical phase back-EMF waveform will be obtained when the ratio of Min(NOS,NIS)to the greatest common divisor of Min(NOS,NIS)and NR is even.Based on the optimal rotor pole numbers for 6-pole outer stator with different n and corresponding optimal relative position together with same rated copper loss,the average torque is improved by 18.4%,25.1%and 25.7%respectively in PS-SFPMMs with n equal to 2,3 and 4 when compared with PS-SFPMM with n equal to 1.The analyses are validated by experiment results of the prototype machine.展开更多

Ferroelectricity of the fresh-made PLT thin film has been clearly detect...Nanoscale PbxLa1-,Ti1-x/4O3 (PLT) thin film has been fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by chemical solution deposition (CSD) method. Ferroelectricity of the fresh-made PLT thin film has been clearly detected through piezoelectric force microscopy (PFM) by writing reversible ferroelectric domains. However, PLT thin film also shows off-standard ferroelectric hysteresis loops highly dependent on frequency, indicating large amount of mobile space charges in the film. Subsequent current-voltage (C-V) studies show that sandwich-like Pt/PLT/Pt structure exhibits notable bipolar resistive switching (BRS) characteristics with high stability (〉 103 switching cycles). It is found that the C-V curves of both high- and low-resistance states have the feature of space-charge-limited current (SCLC) conduction, indicating important roles of defects in the conduction. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement further verifies that oxygen vacancies based conductive filament mechanism is likely responsible for the observed RS effect. Our demonstration of stable RS effect in the PLT thin film and its possible coupling with ferroelectricity is promising in device development and applications, such as development of ferroelectric-tunable RS memories.展开更多

The experimental results showed that strong phosphorescence could be observed in b-cyclodextrin aqueous solution only at low pH value.
