With the help of the asymptotic expansion for the classic Li formula and based on the L1-type compact difference scheme,we propose a temporal Richardson extrapolation method for the fractional sub-diffusion equation.Three extrapolation formulas are presented, whose temporal convergence orders in L_(∞)-norm are proved to be 2,3-α,and 4-2α,respectively,where 0<α<1.Similarly,by the method of order reduction,an extrapola-tion method is constructed for the fractional wave equation including two extrapolation formulas, which achieve temporal 4-γ and 6-2γ order in L_(∞)-norm,respectively,where1<γ<2.Combining the derived extrapolation methods with the fast algorithm for Caputo fractional derivative based on the sum-of-exponential approximation, the fast extrapolation methods are obtained which reduce the computational complexity significantly while keep-ing the accuracy.Several numerical experiments confirm the theoretical results. 展开更多

The time fractional derivatives are described in Caputo’s sense. By using some operators, we obtain the compact finite volume scheme have high order accuracy. We use a compact operator to deal with spatial direction;then we can get the compact finite volume scheme. It is proved that the finite volume scheme is unconditionally stable and convergent in L∞-norm. The convergence order is O(τ2-α + h4). Finally, two numerical examples are given to confirm the theoretical results. Some tables listed also can explain the stability and convergence of the scheme. 展开更多

The fractional diffusion equations can accurately describe the migration process of anomalous diffusion, which are widely applied in the field of natural science and engineering calculations. This paper proposed a kind of numerical methods with parallel nature which were the alternating segment explicit-implicit (ASE-I) and implicit-explicit (ASI-E) difference method for the time fractional sub-diffusion equation. It is based on the combination of the explicit scheme, implicit scheme, improved Saul’yev asymmetric scheme and the alternating segment technique. Theoretical analyses have shown that the solution of ASE-I (ASI-E) scheme is uniquely solvable. At the same time the stability and convergence of the two schemes were proved by the mathematical induction. The theoretical analyses are verified by numerical experiments. Meanwhile the ASE-I (ASI-E) scheme has the higher computational efficiency compared with the implicit scheme. Therefore it is feasible to use the parallel difference schemes for solving the time fractional diffusion equation. 展开更多

A significant obstacle impeding the advancement of the time fractional Schrodinger equation lies in the challenge of determining its precise mathematical formulation. In order to address this,we undertake an exploration of the time fractional Schrodinger equation within the context of a non-Markovian environment.By leveraging a two-level atom as an illustrative case,we find that the choice to raise i to the order of the time derivative is inappropriate. In contrast to the conventional approach used to depict the dynamic evolution of quantum states in a non-Markovian environment, the time fractional Schrodinger equation, when devoid of fractional-order operations on the imaginary unit i,emerges as a more intuitively comprehensible framework in physics and offers greater simplicity in computational aspects.Meanwhile,we also prove that it is meaningless to study the memory of time fractional Schrodinger equation with time derivative 1<α≤2.It should be noted that we have not yet constructed an open system that can be fully described by the time fractional Schrodinger equation. This will be the focus of future research. Our study might provide a new perspective on the role of time fractional Schrodinger equation. 展开更多

Anovel accuratemethod is proposed to solve a broad variety of linear and nonlinear(1+1)-dimensional and(2+1)-dimensional multi-term time-fractional partial differential equations with spatial operators of anisotropic diffusivity.For(1+1)-dimensional problems, analytical solutions that satisfy the boundary requirements are derived.Such solutions are numerically calculated using the trigonometric basis approximation for(2+1)-dimensional problems. With the aid of these analytical or numerical approximations, the original problems can be converted into the fractional ordinary differential equations, and solutions to the fractional ordinary differential equations are approximated by modified radial basis functions with time-dependent coefficients. An efficient backward substitution strategy that was previously provided for a single fractional ordinary differential equation is then used to solve the corresponding systems. The straightforward quasilinearization technique is applied to handle nonlinear issues.Numerical experiments demonstrate the suggested algorithm’s superior accuracy and efficiency. 展开更多

In this study,a numerical method based on the Pell-Lucas polynomials(PLPs)is developed to solve the fractional order HIV/AIDS epidemic model with a treatment compartment. The HIV/AIDS mathematical model with a treatment compartment is divided into five classes, namely, susceptible patients(S),HIV-positive individuals(I),individuals with full-blown AIDS but not receiving ARV treatment(A),individuals being treated(T),and individuals who have changed their sexual habits sufficiently(R).According to the method,by utilizing the PLPs and the collocation points,we convert the fractional order HIV/AIDS epidemic model with a treatment compartment into a nonlinear system of the algebraic equations. Also, the error analysis is presented for the Pell-Lucas approximation method. The aim of this study is to observe the behavior of five populations after 200 days when drug treatment is applied to HIV-infectious and full-blown AIDS people. To demonstrate the usefulness of this method, the applications are made on the numerical example with the help of MATLAB.In addition, four cases of the fractional order derivative(p=1,p=0.95,p=0.9,p=0.85)are examined in the range[0,200].Owing to applications,we figured out that the outcomes have quite decent errors. Also,we understand that the errors decrease when the value of N increases. The figures in this study are created in MATLAB.The outcomes indicate that the presented method is reasonably sufficient and correct. 展开更多

The numerical approach for finding the solution of fractional order systems of boundary value problems (BPVs) is derived in this paper. The implementation of the weighted residuals such as Galerkin, Least Square, and Collocation methods are included for solving fractional order differential equations, which is broadened to acquire the approximate solutions of fractional order systems with differentiable polynomials, namely Legendre polynomials, as basis functions. The algorithm of the residual formulations of matrix form can be coded efficiently. The interpretation of Caputo fractional derivatives is employed here. We have demonstrated these methods numerically through a few examples of linear and nonlinear BVPs. The results in absolute errors show that the present method efficiently finds the numerical solutions of fractional order systems of differential equations. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose a fast second-order approximation to the variable-order(VO)Caputo fractional derivative, which is developed based on L2-1σformula and the exponential-sum-approximation technique. The fast evaluation method can achieve the second-order accuracy and further reduce the computational cost and the acting memory for the VO Caputo fractional derivative. This fast algorithm is applied to construct a relevant fast temporal second-order and spatial fourth-order scheme(F L2-1σscheme)for the multi-dimensional VO time-fractional sub-diffusion equations.Theoretically,F L2-1σscheme is proved to fulfill the similar properties of the coefficients as those of the well-studied L2-1σscheme.Therefore,F L2-1σscheme is strictly proved to be unconditionally stable and convergent.A sharp decrease in the computational cost and the acting memory is shown in the numerical examples to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. 展开更多

Anomalous transport in magnetically confined plasmas is investigated using temporal fractional transport equations. The use of temporal fractional transport equations means that the order of the partial derivative with respect to time is a fraction. In this case, the Caputo fractional derivative relative to time is utilized, because it preserves the form of the initial conditions. A numerical calculation reveals that the fractional order of the temporal derivative α(α ∈(0, 1), sub-diffusive regime) controls the diffusion rate. The temporal fractional derivative is related to the fact that the evolution of a physical quantity is affected by its past history, depending on what are termed memory effects. The magnitude of α is a measure of such memory effects. When α decreases, so does the rate of particle diffusion due to memory effects. As a result,if a system initially has a density profile without a source, then the smaller the α is, the more slowly the density profile approaches zero. When a source is added, due to the balance of the diffusion and fueling processes, the system reaches a steady state and the density profile does not evolve. As α decreases, the time required for the system to reach a steady state increases. In magnetically confined plasmas, the temporal fractional transport model can be applied to off-axis heating processes. Moreover, it is found that the memory effects reduce the rate of energy conduction and hollow temperature profiles can be sustained for a longer time in sub-diffusion processes than in ordinary diffusion processes. 展开更多
