This paper proposes a novel unified visco-plastic constitutive model for uniaxial ratcheting behaviors. The cyclic deformation of the material presents remarkable time-dependence and history memory phenomena. The fractional(fractional-order)derivative is an efficient tool for modeling these phenomena. Therefore, we develop a cyclic fractional-order unified visco-plastic(FVP) constitutive model. Specifically, within the framework of the cyclic elasto-plastic theory, the fractional derivative is used to describe the accumulated plastic strain rate and nonlinear kinematic hardening rule based on the Ohno-Abdel-Karim model. Moreover, a new radial return method for the back stress is developed to describe the unclosed hysteresis loops of the stress-strain properly. The capacity of the FVP model used to predict the cyclic deformation of the SS304 stainless steel is verified through a comparison with the corresponding experimental data found in the literature(KANG, G. Z., KAN, Q. H., ZHANG, J., and SUN, Y. F. Timedependent ratcheting experiments of SS304 stainless steel. International Journal of Plasticity, 22(5), 858–894(2006)). The FVP model is shown to be successful in predicting the rate-dependent ratcheting behaviors of the SS304 stainless steel. 展开更多

In this paper, we propose a delayed fractional-order congestion control model which is more accurate than the original integer-order model when depicting the dual congestion control algorithms. The presence of fractional orders requires the use of suitable criteria which usually make the analytical work so harder. Based on the stability theorems on delayed fractionalorder differential equations, we study the issue of the stability and bifurcations for such a model by choosing the communication delay as the bifurcation parameter. By analyzing the associated characteristic equation, some explicit conditions for the local stability of the equilibrium are given for the delayed fractionalorder model of congestion control algorithms. Moreover, the Hopf bifurcation conditions for general delayed fractional-order systems are proposed. The existence of Hopf bifurcations at the equilibrium is established. The critical values of the delay are identified, where the Hopf bifurcations occur and a family of oscillations bifurcate from the equilibrium. Same as the delay, the fractional order normally plays an important role in the dynamics of delayed fractional-order systems. It is found that the critical value of Hopf bifurcations is crucially dependent on the fractional order. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the main results. 展开更多

In this paper, the fractional-order mathematical model and the fractional-order state-space averaging model of the Buck-Boost converter in continuous conduction mode (CCM) are established based on the fractional calculus and the Adomian decomposition method. Some dynamical properties of the current-mode controlled fractional-order Buck- Boost converter are analysed. The simulation is accomplished by using SIMULINK. Numerical simulations are presented to verify the analytical results and we find that bifurcation points will be moved backward as α and β vary. At the same time, the simulation results show that the converter goes through different routes to chaos. 展开更多

The major advantage of grey system theory is that both incomplete information and unclear problems can be processed precisely. Considering that the modeling of grey model(GM) depends on the preprocessing of the original data, the fractional-order accumulation calculus could be used to do preprocessing. In this paper, the residual sequence represented by Fourier series is used to ameliorate performance of the fractionalorder accumulation GM(1,1) and improve the accuracy of predictor. The state space model of optimally modified GM(1,1)predictor is given and genetic algorithm(GA) is used to find the smallest relative error during the modeling step. Furthermore, the fractional form of continuous GM(1,1) is given to enlarge the content of prediction model. The simulation results illustrated that the fractional-order calculus could be used to depict the GM precisely with more degrees of freedom. Meanwhile, the ranges of the parameters and model application could be enlarged with better performance. The method of modified GM predictor using optimal fractional-order accumulation calculus is expected to be widely used in data processing, model theory, prediction control and related fields. 展开更多

A fractional-order Maxwell model is used to describe the viscoelastic seabed mud. The experimental data of the real mud well fit the results of the fractional-order Maxwell model that has fewer parameters than the traditional model. The model is then used to investigate the effect of the mud on the surface-wave damping. The damping rate of a linear monochromatic wave is obtained. The elastic resonance of the mud layer is observed, which leads to the peaks in the damping rate. The damping rate is a sum of the modal damping rates, which indicates the wave damping induced by the mud motion of particular modes. The analysis shows that near the resonance, the total damping rate is dominated by the damping rate of the corresponding mode. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to present a numerical approach based on the artificial neural networks(ANNs)for solving a novel fractional chaotic financial model that represents the effect of memory and chaos in the presented system. The method is constructed with the combination of the ANNs along with the Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation(LMB),named the ANNs-LMB.This technique is tested for solving the novel problem for three cases of the fractional-order values and the obtained results are compared with the reference solution.Fifteen numbers neurons have been used to solve the fractional-order chaotic financial model. The selection of the data to solve the fractional-order chaotic financial model are selected as 75%for training,10%for testing, and 15%for certification. The results indicate that the presented approximate solutions fit exactly with the reference solution and the method is effective and precise. The obtained results are testified to reduce the mean square error(MSE)for solving the fractional model and verified through the various measures including correlation,MSE,regression histogram of the errors, and state transition(ST). 展开更多

In this paper,we formulate and analyze a new fractional-order Logistic model with feedback control, which is different from a recognized mathematical model proposed in our very recent work.Asymptotic stability of the proposed model and its numerical solutions are studied rigorously.By using the Lyapunov direct method for fractional dynamical systems and a suitable Lyapunov function,we show that a unique positive equilibrium point of the new model is asymptotically stable. As an important consequence of this,we obtain a new mathematical model in which the feedback control variables only change the position of the unique positive equilibrium point of the original model but retain its asymptotic stability.Furthermore,we construct unconditionally positive nonstandard finite difference(NSFD)schemes for the proposed model using the Mickens’methodology. It is worth noting that the constructed NSFD schemes not only preserve the positivity but also provide reliable numerical solutions that correctly reflect the dynamics of the new fractional-order model. Finally,we report some numerical examples to support and illustrate the theoretical results. The results indicate that there is a good agreement between the theoretical results and numerical ones. 展开更多

The two-parameter lognormal distribution is a variant of the normal distribution and the three-parameter lognormal distribution is an extension of the two-parameter lognormal distribution by introducing a location parameter. The Q-Q plot of the three-parameter lognormal distribution is widely used. To obtain the Q-Q plot one needs to iteratively try different values of the shape parameter and subjectively judge the linearity of the Q-Q plot. In this paper,a mathematical method was proposed to determine the value of the shape parameter so as to simplify the generation of the Q-Q plot. Then a new probability plot was proposed, which was more easily obtained and provided more accurate parameter estimates than the Q-Q plot. These are illustrated by three realworld examples. 展开更多

Based on the consistency-viscoplastic constitutive model, the static William-Warnke model with three-parameters is modified and a consistency-viscoplastic William-Warnke model with three-parameters is developed that considers the effect of strain rates. Then, the tangent modulus of the consistency viscoplastic model is introduced and an implicit backward Elure iterative algorithm is developed. Comparisons between the numerical simulations and experimental data show that the consistency model properly provides the uniaxial and biaxial dynamic behaviors of concrete. To study the effect of strain rates on the dynamic response of concrete structures, the proposed model is used in the analysis of the dynamic response of a simply-supported beam and the results show that the strain rate has a significant effect on the displacement and stress magnitudes and distributions. Finally, the seismic responses of a 278 m high arch dam are obtained and compared by using the linear elastic model,as well as rate-independent and rate-dependent William-Warnke three-parameter models. The results indicate that the strain rate affects the first principal stresses, and the maximal equivalent viscoplastic strain rate of the arch dam. Numerical calculations and analyses reveal that considering the strain rate is important in the safety assessments of arch dams located in seismically active areas. 展开更多

The parameter identification of a nonlinear Hammerstein-type process is likely to be complex and challenging due to the existence of significant nonlinearity at the input side. In this paper, a new parameter identification strategy for a block-oriented Hammerstein process is proposed using the Haar wavelet operational matrix(HWOM). To determine all the parameters in the Hammerstein model, a special input excitation is utilized to separate the identification problem of the linear subsystem from the complete nonlinear process. During the first test period, a simple step response data is utilized to estimate the linear subsystem dynamics. Then, the overall system response to sinusoidal input is used to estimate nonlinearity in the process. A single-pole fractional order transfer function with time delay is used to model the linear subsystem. In order to reduce the mathematical complexity resulting from the fractional derivatives of signals, a HWOM based algebraic approach is developed. The proposed method is proven to be simple and robust in the presence of measurement noises. The numerical study illustrates the efficiency of the proposed modeling technique through four different nonlinear processes and results are compared with existing methods. 展开更多

Because charge carriers of many organic semiconductors(OSCs)exhibit fractional drift diffusion(Fr-DD)transport properties, the need to develop a Fr-DD model solver becomes more apparent. However, the current research on solving the governing equations of the Fr-DD model is practically nonexistent. In this paper,an iterative solver with high precision is developed to solve both the transient and steady-state Fr-DD model for organic semiconductor devices. The Fr-DD model is composed of two fractionalorder carriers(i.e.,electrons and holes)continuity equations coupled with Poisson’s equation.By treating the current density as constants within each pair of consecutive grid nodes,a linear Caputo’s fractional-order ordinary differential equation(FrODE)can be produced, and its analytic solution gives an approximation to the carrier concentration. The convergence of the solver is guaranteed by implementing a successive over-relaxation(SOR)mechanism on each loop of Gummel’s iteration.Based on our derivations,it can be shown that the Scharfetter–Gummel discretization method is essentially a special case of our scheme. In addition, the consistency and convergence of the two core algorithms are proved, with three numerical examples designed to demonstrate the accuracy and computational performance of this solver. Finally,we validate the Fr-DD model for a steady-state organic field effect transistor(OFET)by fitting the simulated transconductance and output curves to the experimental data. 展开更多

In this paper,we consider a tuberculosis model with incomplete treatment and extend the model to a Caputo fractional-order and two-patch version with exogenous re-infection among the treated individuals,in which only susceptible individuals can travel freely between the patches. The model has multiple equilibria. We determine conditions that lead to the appearance of a backward bifurcation. The results show that the TB model can have exogenous reinfection among the treated individuals and,at the same time, does not exhibit backward bifurcation. Also, conditions that lead to the global asymptotic stability of the disease-free equilibrium are obtained. In case without reinfection, the model has four equilibria. In this case, the global asymptotic stability of the equilibria is established using the Lyapunov function theory together with the LaSalle invariance principle for fractional differential equations(FDEs).Numerical simulations confirm the validity of the theoretical results. 展开更多

The inconsistency of lithium-ion cells degrades battery performance, lifetime and even safety. The complexity of the cell reaction mechanism causes an irregular asymmetrical distribution of various cell parameters, such as capacity and internal resistance, among others. In this study, the Newman electrochemical model was used to simulate the 1 C discharge curves of 100 LiMn2 O4 pouch cells with parameter variations typically produced in manufacturing processes, and the three-parameter Weibull probability model was used to analyze the dispersion and symmetry of the resulting discharge voltage distributions. The results showed that the dispersion of the voltage distribution was related to the rate of decrease in the discharge voltage, and the symmetry was related to the change in the rate of voltage decrease. The effect of the cells’capacity dominated the voltage distribution thermodynamically during discharge, and the phase transformation process significantly skewed the voltage distribution. The effects of the ohmic drop and polarization voltage on the voltage distribution were primarily kinetic. The presence of current returned the right-skewed voltage distribution caused by phase transformation to a more symmetrical distribution. Thus, the Weibull parameters elucidated the electrochemical behavior during the discharge process, and this method can guide the prediction and control of cell inconsistency,as well as detection and control strategies for cell management systems. 展开更多

Fractional-order derivative is attracting more and more interest from researchers working on image processing because it helps to preserve more texture than total variation when noise is removed. In the existing works, the Grunwald–Letnikov fractional-order derivative is usually used, where the Dirichlet homogeneous boundary condition can only be considered and therefore the full lower triangular Toeplitz matrix is generated as the discrete partial fractional-order derivative operator. In this paper,a modified truncation is considered in generating the discrete fractional-order partial derivative operator and a truncated fractional-order total variation(tFoTV)model is proposed for image restoration.Hopefully, first any boundary condition can be used in the numerical experiments.Second, the accuracy of the reconstructed images by the tFoTV model can be improved. The alternating directional method of multiplier is applied to solve the tFoTV model. Its convergence is also analyzed briefly. In the numerical experiments,we apply the tFoTV model to recover images that are corrupted by blur and noise. The numerical results show that the tFoTV model provides better reconstruction in peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR)than the full fractional-order variation and total variation models. From the numerical results,we can also see that the tFoTV model is comparable with the total generalized variation(TGV)model in accuracy. In addition,we can roughly fix a fractional order according to the structure of the image, and therefore, there is only one parameter left to determine in the tFoTV model, while there are always two parameters to be fixed in TGV model. 展开更多

Cutterhead loads are the key mechanical parameters for the strength design of the full face hard rock tunnel boring machine(TBM).Due to the brittle rock-breaking mechanism, the excavation loads acting on cutters fluctuate strongly and show some randomness. The conventional method that using combinations of some special static loads to perform the strength design of TBM cutterhead may lead to strength failure during working practice. In this paper,a three-dimensional finite element model for coupled Cutterhead–Rock is developed to determine the cutterhead loads. Then the distribution characteristics and the influence factors of cutterhead loads are analyzed based on the numerical results. It is found that,as time changes, the normal and tangential forces acting on cutters and the total torque acting on the cutterhead approximately distribute log normally, while the total thrusts acting on the cutterhead approximately show a normal distribution.Furthermore, the statistical average values of cutterhead loads are proportional to the uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of cutting rocks. The values also change with the penetration and the diameter of cutterhead following a power function.Based on these findings,we propose a three-parameter model for the mean of cutterhead loads and a method of generating the random cutter forces. Then the strength properties of a typical cutterhead are analyzed in detail using loads generated by the new method. The optimized cutterhead has been successfully applied in engineering. The method in this paper may provide a useful reference for the strength design of TBM cutterhead. 展开更多
