Due to the extremely high heterogeneity of shale, the factors controlling the formation of internal fractures, especially horizontal fractures, remain controversial. In this study, we integrate thin section analysis and microcomputed tomography(CT) data from several lacustrine shale samples from the third member(Es3) of the Shahejie Formation, Qikou Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, to assess the fractures in detail. The goal is to reveal the development characteristics, controlling factors, and geological significance for evaluating sweet spots in a shale oil play. The fractures in the Es3contain high-angle structural and horizontal bed-parallel fractures that are mostly shear and extensional. Various factors influence fracture development, including lithofacies, mineral composition, organic matter content, and the number of laminae. Structural fractures occur predominantly in siltstone, whereas bed-parallel fractures are abundant in laminated shale and layered mudstone. A higher quartz content results in higher shale brittleness, causing fractures, whereas the transformation between clay minerals contributes to the development of bedparallel fractures. Excess pore pressure due to hydrocarbon generation and expulsion during thermal advance can cause the formation of bed-parallel fractures. The density of the bed-parallel and structural fractures increases with the lamina density, and the bed-parallel fractures are more sensitive to the number of laminae. The fractures are critical storage spaces and flow conduits and are indicative of sweet spots. The laminated shale in the Es3with a high organic matter content contains natural fractures and is an organic-rich, liquid-rich, self-sourced shale play. Conversely, the siltstone, massive mudstone, and argillaceous carbonate lithofacies contain lower amounts of organic matter and do not have bed-parallel fractures. However, good reservoirs can form in these areas when structural fractures are present and the source, and storage spaces are separated.展开更多

It thus contributes to the conceptual hydrogeological model. The area was subdivided into three blocks, separated by the NW Potreros and the Los Santos faults, having minor inner faults of different orientations. This separation facilitates the analysis of the fractures measured in the field, which in general show high dip angles and a conjugate geometry in the northern block, tension fractures(Mode I) in the central block, and a random distribution in the southwestern block. WinTensor treatment of slickensides yielded a maximum horizontal stress(SHmax) of 111o, which coincides with the WNW-ESE tensor observed from the conjugate and tension joints. We then used Frac Pa Q to generate interpolation maps of fracture intensity and density. The maps show the highest values in the central block and the lowest in the northern block, where the precipitation is higher, causing intensive rock weathering and homogenization of the fracture planes. Although the highest values of connectivity by line are found to the south of the mesa, we suggest the possibility of greater flow from the recharge zone(NE) along bedding planes and open NW-SE fractures.展开更多

Post-stack seismic attributes are commonly used to predict medium to large fractures, while pre-stack seismic attributes are proven to be more sensitive to small and micro sized fractures through forward modeling. Using machine learning algorithm to fuse information from different scales to predict fracture can greatly improve the accuracy of fracture prediction. On the basis of In-Situ stress prediction, the paper conducted post-stack seismic attribute analysis and pre-stack seismic attribute analysis, further studied on the sensitivity of seismic attributes to fracture and selected sensitive attributes, used the sensitivity log of well-bore fractures as the target log for learning, ultimately obtained a comprehensive body of fracture. Through blind well verification, the prediction results match well with the we1l data and the prediction results is highly consistent with the production data. The results of fracture prediction are reliable, and the research method has certain reference significance for fracture prediction.展开更多

The explicit formulation is capable of modelling surrounding media;while the implicit coupling is unable to do so as deformation vector does not appear as a primary variable in the formulation. The governing differential equations and the finite element approximation of the governing equations for each of the methods are presented. Spatial discretization is achieved using the Galerkin method, and temporal discretisation using the finite difference technique. In the explicit model, coupling between flow and deformation is captured through volumetric strain compatibility amongst the phases within the system. In the implicit model, this is achieved by defining the pore space storativity as a function of the formation compressibility and the compressibility of the fluid phases within the pore space. The impact of rock deformability on early, intermediate and late time responses of fractured reservoir is investigated through several numerical examples. Salient features of each formulation are discussed and highlighted. It is shown that the implicit model is unable to capture the constraining effects of a non-yielding, surrounding rock, leading to incorrect projections of reservoir production irrespective of the history matching strategy adopted.展开更多

The loss of a toothhas lifelong consequences for children and teenagers, but the maintenance of pulphealth and the calcific healing of multiple root fractures are rarely reported in theliterature.CASE SUMMARY This case reports healing of a permanent tooth with complicated crown–root andadditional root fractures, in which pulp health was maintained. A 10-year-old girlfell and fractured the root of her maxillary left central incisor at the cervical level. After the coronal fragment was repositioned, the tooth was splinted until thetooth was no longer mobile, 2 years later. Eight years after treatment, the toothhas remained asymptomatic with vital pulp and localized gingival overgrowth.Cone-beam computed tomography revealed not only calcified healing of the CRFbut also spontaneous healing in an additional undiagnosed root fracture. Thefracture line on the enamel could not be healed by hard tissue and formed agroove in the cervical crown. It was speculated that the groove was related to thelocalized gingival overgrowth.CONCLUSION This case provides a clinical perspective of the treatment of a tooth with acomplicated CRF and an additional root fracture.展开更多

文摘This work applies stress tensors inversions and quantification of fracture patterns along the Mesa de Los Santos, in the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, to better understand the potential fluid flow. Although the highest values of connectivity by line are found to the south of the mesa, we suggest the possibility of greater flow from the recharge zone(NE) along bedding planes and open NW-SE fractures.

文摘Lost circulation is a common downhole problem of drilling in geothermal and high-temperature,high-pressure(HTHP)formations.Lost circulation material(LCM)is a regular preventive and remedial measure for lost circulation. However, conventional LCMs seem ineffective in high-temperature formations. This may be due to the changes in the mechanical properties of LCMs and their sealing performance under high-temperature conditions. To understand how high temperature affects the fracture sealing performance of LCMs,we developed a coupled computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method(CFD-DEM)model to simulate the behavior of granular LCMs in fractures. We summarized the literature on the effects of high temperature on the mechanical properties of LCMs and the rheological properties of drilling fluid. We conducted sensitivity analyses to investigate how changing LCM slurry properties affected the fracture sealing efficiency at increasing temperatures. The results show that high temperature reduces the size, strength, and friction coefficient of LCMs as well as the drilling fluid viscosity.Smaller, softer, and less frictional LCM particles have lower bridging probability and slower bridging initiation.Smaller particles tend to form dual-particle bridges rather than single-particle bridges. These result in a deeper, tighter, but unstable sealing zone.Reduced drilling fluid viscosity leads to faster and shallower sealing zones.

文摘Polymer flooding in fractured wells has been extensively applied in oilfields to enhance oil recovery. In contrast to water, polymer solution exhibits non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior such as effects of shear thinning and shear thickening, polymer convection, diffusion, adsorption retention, inaccessible pore volume and reduced effective permeability.Meanwhile, the flux density and fracture conductivity along the hydraulic fracture are generally non-uniform due to the effects of pressure distribution, formation damage, and proppant breakage. In this paper,we present an oil-water two-phase flow model that captures these complex non-Newtonian and nonlinear behavior, and non-uniform fracture characteristics in fractured polymer flooding. The hydraulic fracture is firstly divided into two parts:high-conductivity fracture near the wellbore and low-conductivity fracture in the far-wellbore section.A hybrid grid system, including perpendicular bisection(PEBI)and Cartesian grid,is applied to discrete the partial differential flow equations, and the local grid refinement method is applied in the near-wellbore region to accurately calculate the pressure distribution and shear rate of polymer solution. The combination of polymer behavior characterizations and numerical flow simulations are applied, resulting in the calculation for the distribution of water saturation, polymer concentration and reservoir pressure.Compared with the polymer flooding well with uniform fracture conductivity, this non-uniform fracture conductivity model exhibits the larger pressure difference, and the shorter bilinear flow period due to the decrease of fracture flow ability in the far-wellbore section. The field case of the fall-off test demonstrates that the proposed method characterizes fracture characteristics more accurately, and yields fracture half-lengths that better match engineering reality, enabling a quantitative segmented characterization of the near-wellbore section with high fracture conductivity and the far-wellbore section with low fracture conductivity. The novelty of this paper is the analysis of pressure performances caused by the fracture dynamics and polymer rheology,as well as an analysis method that derives formation and fracture parameters based on the pressure and its derivative curves.

文摘Shale gas is an important component of unconventional oil and gas resources.Studying the imbibition behavior is helpful to optimize flowback parameters and enhance gas recovery.Recent imbibition studies have focused on shale matrix, and the pressure conditions discussed were mostly atmospheric. The initial imbibition behavior begins from propped fractures to matrix, but there are few studies working on explaining the imbibition behavior in propped fractures or the phenomenon of many shale wells exhibit higher productivity after a“soaking”period. Therefore, propped fracture samples were designed for imbibition and migration experiments. In order to accurately study the mechanism and main influencing factors of fracturing fluid imbibition and migration in propped and unpropped shale fractures under high temperature and high pressure,a series of experiments based on nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)were carried out. Results showed that NMR T_(2) spectra of all samples exhibited a bimodal distribution. The final imbibition volume of fracturing fluid was positively related to pressure and fracture width. The imbibition effect of fracturing fluid was more evident in matrix pores under high pressure. In the migration during soaking stage, the fracturing fluid gradually migrated from large pores to small pores and gradually displaced the shale gas from the matrix, thus allowing the water blocking in propped fractures to self-unlock to some extent.Gas permeability decreased in the imbibition stage, while it recovered in the migration stage to some extent.

文摘Hot tensile tests were performed on Hastelloy C-276 alloy in the temperature range of 850−1150℃ and strain rate range of 0.01−10 s^(−1) to reveal its fracture characteristics and critical fracture failure conditions during high temperature deformation process.Short-term aging treatments were also conducted to analyze the effects of precipitation on the fracture behaviors in conjunction with the experimental results obtained from the hot tensile tests. It was observed that the main precipitates in Hastelloy C-276 alloy under hot tensile deformation and short-term aging treatment were identified as M_(6)C carbides, around which the microscopic voids nucleate when the external forces were applied.Considering the effects of deformation temperature and strain rate, two failure criteria based on Zener-Hollomon parameter were developed to describe the fracture behaviors of Hastelloy C-276 alloy deforming at elevated temperatures.Finite element method(FEM)coupling with the proposed failure criteria was used to examine the validity by comparing the predicted values with the experimental data, and the comparison results indicate that the established failure criteria were capable of predicting the fracture behaviors of Hastelloy C-276 alloy in hot deformation process.

文摘The ductility and toughness of peak-aged(PA)Mg-RE alloys are significantly influenced by their grain structure characteristics. To investigate this issue,we examined PA Mg-8.24Gd-2.68Y(wt.%)alloys with two distinct grain structures:an extruded-PA sample with dynamic recrystallized(DRXed)fine grains and coarse hot-worked grains, and an extrusion-solution treated and PA sample with grown large equiaxed grains. The results showed that the extruded-PA sample demonstrated a favorable combination of tensile strength(426 MPa)and ductility(7.0%).Although intergranular microcracks nucleated in the DRXed region due to strain incompatibility, crack propagation was impeded by the DRXed fine grains, inducing intrinsic and extrinsic toughening mechanisms. On the other hand, the hot-worked grains in the extruded-PA sample initiated transgranular cracks after a relatively high strain, attributed to the strain partitioning effect, ultimately leading to failure. In comparison, the solution-treated-PA sample exhibited lower tensile strength and ductility(338 MPa and 3.7%,respectively).Intergranular cracks nucleated in the CG sample before necking, and the readily formed critical crack, facilitated by the large grain size, exhibited unstable crack growth, resulting in premature failure. This work offers valuable insights for designing high-performance PA Mg-RE alloys and preventing premature failure in practical applications.
文摘Machine learning is a good method for predicting fracture by integrating multi-source information. The results of fracture prediction are reliable, and the research method has certain reference significance for fracture prediction.
文摘For the case of a fractured reservoir surrounded by deformable rocks, the appropriateness and applicability of the two common methods of coupling of flow and deformation, explicit (coupled) and implicit (uncoupled) methods are investigated. It is shown that the implicit model is unable to capture the constraining effects of a non-yielding, surrounding rock, leading to incorrect projections of reservoir production irrespective of the history matching strategy adopted.

文摘BACKGROUND Complicated crown–root fracture (CRF) involves severe injury to the crown, root, and pulp, and may be accompanied by multiple root fractures. It was speculated that the groove was related to thelocalized gingival overgrowth.CONCLUSION This case provides a clinical perspective of the treatment of a tooth with acomplicated CRF and an additional root fracture.

文摘The microstructural evolution of a cold-rolled and intercritical annealed medium-Mn steel(Fe-0.10C-5Mn)was investigated during uniaxial tensile testing.In-situ observations under scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis were conducted to characterize the progressive transformation-induced plasticity process and associated fracture initiation mechanisms. These findings were discussed with the local strain measurements via digital image correlation. The results indicated that Lüders band formation in the steel was limited to 1.5%strain,which was mainly due to the early-stage martensitic phase transformation of a very small amount of the less stable large-sized retained austenite(RA),which led to localized stress concentrations and strain hardening and further retardation of yielding. The small-sized RA exhibited high stability and progressively transformed into martensite and contributed to a stably extended Portevin-Le Chatelier effect. The volume fraction of RA gradually decreased from 26.8%to 8.2%prior to fracture. In the late deformation stage, fracture initiation primarily occurred at the austenite/martensite and ferrite/martensite interfaces and the ferrite phase.

文摘BACKGROUND Fracture nonunion represents a challenging complication during fracture repair, often necessitating surgical intervention.Teriparatide,a recombinant human parathyroid hormone, has demonstrated promise in enhancing fracture healing, although its efficacy in treating established nonunion remains under investigation.CASE SUMMARY We report a case of a 27-year-old male who presented with a right humerus fracture following a traffic accident.Despite undergoing open reduction and internal fixation, the fracture resulted in a delayed union and subsequent nonunion. After 4 years of conservative management, teriparatide treatment was initiated due to persistent nonunion.Teriparatide injections were administered daily for 6 months, resulting in complete fracture healing and resolution of pain.CONCLUSION Our case demonstrates the successful use of teriparatide in treating a prolonged nonunion of a humerus fracture.Teriparatide may provide a valuable therapeutic option for established bone nonunion, even in cases that have not responded to conservative treatments.
文摘BACKGROUND Extended care based on self-efficacy theory to elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures will provide data reference to optimize the care plan of these patients, reduce patients’concurrent mental diseases, and improve prognosis.AIM To analyze the value of extended nursing based on the self-efficacy theory in older patients with intertrochanteric fractures.METHODS Older patients with intertrochanteric fractures(n=88)admitted to our hospital between January 2021 and December 2024 were randomly divided into two groups-the control group(n=44,routine nursing)and the observation group(n=44,extended nursing)-via balloting and treated for 12 weeks. The mental state, pain severity, limb function, and self-nursing ability of all patients before and after nursing were analyzed.RESULTS After nursing, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale and General Self-Efficacy Scale scores of patients in the two groups improved.Notably,Hamilton Anxiety Scale and General Self-Efficacy Scale scores in the observation group were lower and higher, respectively, than those in the control group(P<0.05).The pain severity in the observation group(2.64±0.22)was lower than that in the control group(2.85±0.41)(P<0.05).The recovery rate of limb function was higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).In addition, the self-nursing ability scores of the patients in both groups increased, with a significantly higher score in the observation group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Extended nursing based on the self-efficacy theory can significantly improve mental state, relieve pain, and promote the recovery of limb function and self-nursing ability in older patients with intertrochanteric fractures.

文摘Loess-mudstone landslides are common in the Loess Plateau.Investigations into the mechanical theory of loess-mudstone landslides have become a challenging undertaking due to the distinctive interfacial properties of loess-mudstone and the unique water sensitivity characteristics of mudstone.Hence,it is imperative to develop innovative mechanical models and mathematical equations specifically tailored to loess-mudstone landslides. In this study,we analyze the fracture mechanism of the loess-mudstone sliding zone using plastic fracture mechanics and develop a unique fracture yield model. To calculate the energy release rate during the expansion of the loess-mudstone interface tip region, the shear fracture energy G is applied, which reflects both the yield failure criterion and the fracture failure criterion. To better understand the instability mechanism of loess-mudstone landslides, equilibrium equations based on G are established for tractive, compressive, and tensile loess-mudstone landslides.Based on the equilibrium equation, the critical length Lc of the sliding zone can be used for the safety evaluation of loess-mudstone landslides. In this way, this study proposes a new method for determining the failure mechanism and equilibrium equation of loessmudstone landslides, which resolves their starting mechanism, mechanical equilibrium equations, and safety evaluation indicators, thus justifying the scientific significance and practical value of this research.

文摘Combining wavelet transforms with conventional log differential curves is used to identify fractured sections is a new idea.In this paper,we first compute the mother wavelet transform of conventional logs and the wavelet decomposed signals are compared with fractures identified from image logs to determine the fracture-matched mother wavelet. Then the mother wavelet-based decomposed signal combined with the differential curves of conventional well logs create a fracture indicator curve, identifying the fractured zone. Finally the fracture density can be precisely evaluated by the linear relationship of the indicator curve and image log fracture density. This method has been successfully used to evaluate igneous reservoir fractures in the southern Songnan basin and the calculated density from the indicator curve and density from image logs are both basically consistent.

文摘The effects of plastic deformation on precipitation behavior and tensile fracture behavior of Mg-10Gd-3Y-0.6Zr alloy were investigated. The results indicate that more precipitation cores can be provided by the crystal defects caused by the plastic deformation,as well as increasing the amount of β' phases, and the formation of precipitations at grain boundaries and interfaces between the twins and matrix.Because of an increase in precipitations, the dislocation slipping during deformation process is effectively hindered and the matrix is strengthened, especially for the 2% deformed alloy which can achieve a good combination of strength and ductility. With increasing the plastic deformation, the microcracks occur at the interface between grain boundary precipitations and matrix, and then propagate intergranularly. When intergranular fracture combines with the formation of smoothing facets on the fracture surface, the tensile properties decrease.
