Based on the actual data collected from the tight sandstone development zone, correlation analysis using theSpearman method was conducted to determine the main factors influencing the gas production rate of tightsandstone fracturing. An integrated model combining geological engineering and numerical simulation of fracturepropagation and production was completed. Based on data analysis, the hydraulic fracture parameters wereoptimized to develop a differentiated fracturing treatment adjustment plan. The results indicate that the influenceof geological and engineering factors in the X1 and X2 development zones in the study area differs significantly. Therefore, it is challenging to adopt a uniform development strategy to achieve rapid production increase. Thedata analysis reveals that the variation in gas production rate is primarily affected by the reservoir thickness andpermeability parameters as geological factors. On the other hand, the amount of treatment fluid and proppantaddition significantly impact the gas production rate as engineering factors. Among these factors, the influence ofgeological factors is more pronounced in block X1. Therefore, the main focus should be on further optimizing thefracturing interval and adjusting the geological development well location. Given the existing well location, thereis limited potential for further optimizing fracture parameters to increase production. For block X2, the fracturingparameters should be optimized. Data screening was conducted to identify outliers in the entire dataset, and adata-driven fracturing parameter optimization method was employed to determine the basic adjustment directionfor reservoir stimulation in the target block. This approach provides insights into the influence of geological, stimulation, and completion parameters on gas production rate. Consequently, the subsequent fracturing parameteroptimization design can significantly reduce the modeling and simulation workload and guide field operations toimprove and optimize hydraulic fracturing efficiency. 展开更多

This paper establishes a 3D multi-well pad fracturing numerical model coupled with fracture propagation and proppant migration based on the displacement discontinuity method and Eulerian-Eulerian frameworks, and the fracture propagation and proppant distribution during multi-well fracturing are investigated by taking the actual multi-well pad parameters as an example.Fracture initiation and propagation during multi-well pad fracturing are jointly affected by a variety of stress interference mechanisms such as inter-cluster,inter-stage,and inter-well,and the fracture extension is unbalanced among clusters, asymmetric on both wings, and dipping at heels.Due to the significant influence of fracture morphology and width on the migration capacity of proppant in the fracture, proppant is mainly placed in the area near the wellbore with large fracture width, while a high-concentration sandwash may easily occur in the area with narrow fracture width as a result of quick bridging. On the whole, the proppant placement range is limited.Increasing the well-spacing can reduce the stress interference of adjacent wells and promote the uniform distribution of fractures and proppant on both wings. The maximum stimulated reservoir volume or multi-fracture uniform propagation can be achieved by optimizing the well spacing.Although reducing the perforation-cluster spacing also can improve the stimulated reservoir area,a too low cluster spacing is not conducive to effectively increasing the propped fracture area.Since increasing the stage time lag is beneficial to reduce inter-stage stress interference, zipper fracturing produces more uniform fracture propagation and proppant distribution. 展开更多

The aperture of natural rock fractures significantly affects the deformation and strength properties of rock masses,as well as the hydrodynamic properties of fractured rock masses. The conventional measurement methods are inadequate for collecting data on high-steep rock slopes in complex mountainous regions. This study establishes a high-resolution three-dimensional model of a rock slope using unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)multi-angle nap-of-the-object photogrammetry to obtain edge feature points of fractures.Fracture opening morphology is characterized using coordinate projection and transformation.Fracture central axis is determined using vertical measuring lines, allowing for the interpretation of aperture of adaptive fracture shape. The feasibility and reliability of the new method are verified at a construction site of a railway in southeast Tibet,China. The study shows that the fracture aperture has a significant interval effect and size effect. The optimal sampling length for fractures is approximately 0.5e1 m,and the optimal aperture interpretation results can be achieved when the measuring line spacing is 1%of the sampling length.Tensile fractures in the study area generally have larger apertures than shear fractures, and their tendency to increase with slope height is also greater than that of shear fractures. The aperture of tensile fractures is generally positively correlated with their trace length, while the correlation between the aperture of shear fractures and their trace length appears to be weak.Fractures of different orientations exhibit certain differences in their distribution of aperture, but generally follow the forms of normal,log-normal,and gamma distributions. This study provides essential data support for rock and slope stability evaluation, which is of significant practical importance. 展开更多

An open-source MATLAB application(app)named Discontinuity Intensity Calculator and Estimator(DICE)was developed in order to quantitatively characterize the fractures,or in more general, discontinuities within a rocky outcrop in three-dimensional(3D)digital data, such as digital outcrop model(DOM).The workflow proposed for the parametrization of the discontinuities consists of the following steps:(1)Analysis and mapping of the fractures detected within the 3D DOMs;(2)Calculation of the orientation, position and dimensions of discontinuities that are represented by best-fit circular planes;(3)Determining the discontinuity parameters(dimension, distribution, spacing and intensity)by the DICE algorithm using different 3D oriented sampling techniques(3D oriented scanline,3D oriented circular scan window and spherical scan volume).Different sampling methods were bench tested with a synthetic,as well as a natural case study, and compared in order to understand the advantages and limitations of each technique. The 3D oriented circular scan window appears to be the most effective method for fracture intensity estimation with high accuracy(error 0.4%)and stability with variations in scan radius. 展开更多

CO_(2) dry fracturing is a promising alternative method to water fracturing in tight gas reservoirs, especially in water-scarce areas such as the Loess Plateau. The CO_(2) flowback efficiency is a critical factor that affects the final gas production effect. However, there have been few studies focusing on the flowback characteristics after CO_(2) dry fracturing. In this study,an extensive core-to-field scale study was conducted to investigate CO_(2) flowback characteristics and CH_(4) production behavior.Firstly,to investigate the impact of core properties and production conditions on CO_(2) flowback,a series of laboratory experiments at the core scale were conducted. Then, the key factors affecting the flowback were analyzed using the grey correlation method based on field data. Finally, taking the construction parameters of Well S60 as an example,a dual-permeability model was used to characterize the different seepage fields in the matrix and fracture for tight gas reservoirs. The production parameters after CO_(2) dry fracturing were then optimized.Experimental results demonstrate that CO_(2) dry fracturing is more effective than slickwater fracturing, with a 9.2%increase in CH_(4) recovery. The increase in core permeability plays a positive role in improving CH_(4) production and CO_(2) flowback. The soaking process is mainly affected by CO_(2) diffusion, and the soaking time should be controlled within 12 h.Increasing the flowback pressure gradient results in a significant increase in both CH_(4) recovery and CO_(2) flowback efficiency. While,an increase in CO_(2) injection is not conducive to CH_(4) production and CO_(2) flowback.Based on the experimental and field data, the important factors affecting flowback and production were comprehensively and effectively discussed. The results show that permeability is the most important factor, followed by porosity and effective thickness.Considering flowback efficiency and the influence of proppant reflux, the injection volume should be the minimum volume that meets the requirements for generating fractures. The soaking time should be short which is 1 day in this study, and the optimal bottom hole flowback pressure should be set at 10 MPa.This study aims to improve the understanding of CO_(2) dry fracturing in tight gas reservoirs and provide valuable insights for optimizing the process parameters. 展开更多

HoekeBrown failure criterion is one of the widely used rock strength criteria in rock mechanics and mining engineering.Based on the theoretical expression of HoekeBrown parameter m of an intact rock, the parameter m has been modified by crack parameters for fractured rocks. In this paper, the theoretical value range and theoretical expression form of the parameter m in HoekeBrown failure criterion were discussed.A critical crack parameter B was defined to describe the influence of the critical crack when the stress was at the peak, while a parameter b was introduced to represent the distribution of the average initial fractures. The parameter m of a fractured rock contained the influences of critical crack(B),confining pressure(s3)and initial fractures(b).Then the triaxial test on naturally fractured limestones was conducted to verify the modification of the parameter m.From the ultrasonic test and loading test results of limestones, the parameter m can be obtained, which indicated that the confining pressure at a high level reduced the differences of m among all the specimens. The confining pressure s3 had an exponential impact on m,while the critical crack parameter B had a negative correlation with m.Then the expression of m for a naturally fractured limestone was also proposed. 展开更多

The accurate estimation of fracture geometry parameters and the characterization of rock mass structure are two important topics in the geological disposal system of high-level radioactive waste(HLW).The Beishan area,as the current preselected area for China’s HLW disposal, has three subareas considered to be the key survey area at the stage of site selection. In this paper,a comprehensive survey method conducted on the outcrop is developed to estimate fracture geometry parameters. Results show that fracture occurrence obeys a Fisher distribution, fracture trace length obeys a normal distribution, and the distribution of spacing obeys a negative exponential distribution. An evaluation index,Rock Mass Structure Rating(RMSR),is proposed to characterize rock mass structure for the three subareas. The results show that the Xinchang area is more suitable to act as China’s HLW disposal repository site.At the same time, the index can also be applied to characterize surface rock mass structure and rock mass integrity at the site selection phase of HLW disposal. 展开更多

Fracture parameters of welded joints with different strength matching and crack depth in weld metal are investigated by using the methods of elastoplastic finite element analysis and three point bend specimen test. The results show that for shallow crack, the plastic zone turns large in loading process, and the fracture toughness turns high. The extent of the plastic zone of overmatched joint is larger than that of undermatched joint because it will extends to parent metal from the weld metal in loading process for the same CTOD value. The plastic zone of undermatched joint is restricted within the weld, and the size of that is small. Overmatched joint shows the fracture behaviour of shallow crack may more easily than the undermatched joint, while the two sorts of joint specimens have the same crack depth. Therefore, the fracture-resistant capability of overmatched weld is better than that of undermatched weld. when the toughness of weld metals is similar for both overmatched and undermatched joints. 展开更多

Objective:To observe the influence situation of different operation methods on the vertebral body parameters and GH-IGF axis of patients with thoracolumbar bursts fractures. Methods:A total of 50 surgical patients with thoracolumbar bursts fractures from February 2014 to January 2016 were selected as the research object, and 50 patients with fractures were divided into two groups by the principle of random allocation, then the group A were treated with surgical treatment by anterior approach, the group B were treated with surgical treatment by posterior approach, then the vertebral body parameters and the serum expression levels of GH-IGF axis indexes of two groups before the surgery and at different time after the surgery were compared. Results: The vertebral body parameters and the serum expression levels of GH-IGF axis indexes of two groups before the surgery were compared (allP>0.05), while the vertebral body parameters and the serum expression levels of GH-IGF axis indexes of two groups at different time after the surgery were all significantly better than those before the surgery, and the results of group B were all better than those of group A (allP<0.05).Conclusions:The influence of surgical treatment by posterior approach for the vertebral body parameters and GH-IGF axis of patients with thoracolumbar bursts fractures are obviously better than those of surgical treatment by anterior approach, so the application value of surgical treatment by posterior approach in the patients with fractures is higher. 展开更多

Study on failure of soft stratum of roller compacted concrete (RCC) is an important aspect of stability of high RCC dam. Six kinds of specimens with different interfaces were investigated by wedge splitting method. Double-K fracture parameters (initial fracture parameter and unsteady fracture parameter) were calculated by the concrete double-K fracture theory. It is indicated that the approach of construction joint or old joint after RCC final set is the most efficient among the six cases, and its fracture parameter is the largest among them. Its propagation path is sinuous. Its failure surface is scraggly. Bedding plane crack fails at the underside of the concrete surface, bond course or the surface between them for each approach. So disturbance on the underside of the concrete surface should be avoided or decreased at best during RCC construction. 展开更多

Since its introduction, discontinuous deformation analysis(DDA)has been widely used in different areas of rock mechanics.By dividing large blocks into subblocks and introducing artificial joints,DDA can be applied to rock fracture simulation. However, parameter calibration,a fundamental issue in discontinuum methods, has not received enough attention in DDA.In this study, the parameter calibration of DDA for intact rock is carefully studied. To this end,a subblock DDA with Voronoi tessellation is presented first. Then,a modified contact constitutive law is introduced,in which the tensile and shear meso-strengths are modified to be independent of the bond lengths. This improvement can prevent the unjustified preferential failure of short edges.A method for imposing confining pressure is also introduced.Thereafter, sensitivity analysis is performed to investigate the influence of the calculated parameters and meso-parameters on the mechanical properties of modeled rock.Based on the sensitivity analysis,a unified calibration procedure is suggested for both cases with and without confining pressure. Finally, the calibration procedure is applied to two examples, including a biaxial compression test. The results show that the proposed Voronoi-based DDA can simulate rock fracture with and without confining pressure very well after careful parameter calibration. 展开更多

To understand the relationship between the process-microstructure-mechanical properties of the high-pressure die-casting(HPDC) AE44 magnesium alloy, 3D reconstruction and 2D characterization were carried out on the HPDC castings produced with different process parameters(low slow-shot speed, fast slow-shot speed, solidification pressure). Microstructural characterization revealed that the formation of shrinkage pores are closely related to ESCs, which were mainly controlled by the low slow-shot speed in shot sleeve(ESCs growth time) and fast slow-shot speed into the die cavity(distribution of ESCs). In addition, solidification pressure can significantly reduce the shrinkage porosity in the center by improving the feeding capacity of liquid metal. Tensile fracture revealed that the tearing ridge is mainly evolved from the slip band of ESCs. The quantity and distribution of ESCs determine the fracture mode of castings. The relationship between mechanical properties of castings and the morphology of ESCs and porosity is also statistically discussed. 展开更多

Using the visualized experimental device of temporary plugging in hydraulic fractures, the plugging behaviors of temporary plugging particles with different sizes and concentrations in hydraulic fractures were experimentally analyzed under the conditions of different carrier fluid displacements and viscosities. The results show that the greater the carrier fluid viscosity and displacement, the more difficult it is to form a plugging layer, and that the larger the size and concentration of the temporary plugging particle, the less difficult it is to form a plugging layer. When the ratio of particle size to fracture width is 0.45, the formation of the plugging layer is mainly controlled by the mass concentration of the temporary plugging particle and the viscosity of the carrier fluid, and a stable plugging layer cannot form if the mass concentration of the temporary plugging particle is less than 20 kg/m^(3)or the viscosity of the carrier fluid is greater than 3 mPa·s. When the ratio of particle size to fracture width is 0.60, the formation of the plugging layer is mainly controlled by the mass concentration of the temporary plugging particle, and a stable plugging layer cannot form if the mass concentration of the temporary plugging particle is less than 10 kg/m^(3). When the ratio of particle size to fracture width is 0.75, the formation of the plugging layer is basically not affected by other parameters, and a stable plugging layer can form within the experimental conditions. The formation process of plugging layer includes two stages and four modes. The main controlling factors affecting the formation mode are the ratio of particle size to fracture width, carrier fluid displacement and carrier fluid viscosity. 展开更多

Ultra-low permeability reservoirs are characterized by small pore throats and poor physical properties, which areat the root of well-known problems related to injection and production. In this study, a gas injection floodingapproach is analyzed in the framework of numerical simulations. In particular, the sequence and timing of fracturechanneling and the related impact on production are considered for horizontal wells with different fracturemorphologies. Useful data and information are provided about the regulation of gas channeling and possible strategiesto delay gas channeling and optimize the gas injection volume and fracture parameters. It is shown that inorder to mitigate gas channeling and ensure high production, fracture length on the sides can be controlled andlonger fractures can be created in the middle by which full gas flooding is obtained at the fracture location in themiddle of the horizontal well. A Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm is provided by which the gas injectionvolume and the fracture parameters of gas injection flooding can be optimized. It is shown that an improvedoil recovery factor as high as 6% can be obtained. 展开更多

Hot compression tests were conducted on Ti40 burn resistant titanium alloy in the temperature range of 900-1 100 ℃ and strain rate range of 0.01-10 s-1 to investigate its fracture behavior and critical fracture conditions in hot forming. It was observed that the failure of Ti40 alloy is attributed to longitudinal surface cracking due to severe oxidation of element V and the secondary tensile stresses. The critical fracture strain increases with increasing temperature and decreasing strain rate. From these observations and parallel FEM simulations,it was concluded that the critical fracture strain is a function of a single argument Zener-Hollomon parameter, and there is a linear relationship between them. An Oyane criterion successfully predicted the location of crack initiation. The critical fracture values also exhibit a liner relationship with lnZ. Based on these results,a new fracture criterion of Ti40 alloy based on Zener-Hollomon parameter was established. 展开更多

The extensive literature on the fatigue problem, published for more than one hundred years, is reviewed by the known scientists [1,2]. As it follows from these investigations, the fundamental amount of failures in engineering practice connected with the fatigue fractures of materials and structure elements. The fatigue problem is complicated one and it is not solved yet. So the theoretical and experimental investigations of this problem will be continued. In our paper the energy approach to formulate the fatigue strength criterion is proposed. The criterion is based on the conception of the latent energy [3-7]. This conception was not applied previously to the fatigue problem. The latent energy is consumed to generate the irreversible deformation and to damage and fracture of metallic materials. So the fatigue fracture criterion can be formulated using the results of latent energy measurements in the macro experiments. This is most impotent advantage of the proposed approach. The logistic function is used to describe the dependence of latent energy from the value of irreversible deformation. It is assumed that the cyclic strength of metals is defined by the latent energy, stored in specimen, when it is reached the critical value in accordance with the logistic curve in a saturation zone. This proposal is used to formulate the fatigue strength criterion. The functions and parameters of received criterion are concretized and comparisons with experimental results for axial cyclic tension for sheet aluminum alloy specimens are given. 展开更多

The inclusion parameters, fracture surface morphology and void growth characteristics of ten- sile and fracture toughness specimens of 2.25Cr-1Mo steels with and without rare-earth (RE)additions have been investigated by quantitative metaltography(QTM),scanning elec- tron microscopy(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS).There is a substantially higher density of inclusions in the RE-treated steel, which has lower values of fracture proper- ties including critical values of COD and J integral(δ_c and J_(IC)),fracture strain(ε_f) and Charpy V-notch energy(CVN).The fracture surface of the RE-treated steel comprises equiaxed dimples of diameters comparable with its inclusion spacing, whereas for the non-RE-treated steels,a wide range of dimple sizes is found with average diameter much smaller than the corresponding inclusion spacing. The investigation indicates that the lower values of fracture properties for the steel with RE at room temperature may be ascribed to its large content of RE-containing inclusions. 展开更多
