Through static pressure sealing experiments, its dosage when used alone and when used in combination with lignin fiber, elastic material SQD-98 and calcium carbonate were optimized, and the formula of a new type(SXM-I) of compound lost circulation material with high temperature tolerance and high strength was formed. Its performance was evaluated by compatibility test, static sealing experiment and sand bed plugging experiment. The test results show that it has good compatibility with drilling fluid used commonly and is able to plug fractures and vugs, the sealed fractures are able to withstand the static pressure of more than 9 MPa and the cumulative leakage is 13.4 mL. The mud filtrate invasion depth is only 2.5 cm in 30 min when the sand bed is made of particles with sizes between 10 mesh and 20 mesh. Overall, with good sealing property and high temperature and high pressure tolerance, the lost circulation material provides strong technical support for the safety drilling in the block.展开更多

However, the multistage tectonism and complex superimposed palaeo-karstification in the area are unclear, which leads to a lack of understanding on the formation mechanism and distribution of the deep carbonate basement reservoirs. In this study, the occurrence of a fracture-vug network and its fillings in carbonate reservoirs were investigated based on borehole cores, thin sections, and image logs from the southwestern slope of the OBBB's Bozhong Sag. Then the diagenetic fluid properties of the carbonate matrix and fillings were analysed via the data of carbon, oxygen, and strontium isotopes, and major, rare elements from coring intervals. The results revealed that fracture-related karst reservoirs have lithologic selectivity inclined toward dolomite strata. The intersecting relationships, widths, and strikes of the fractures and the regional tectonic background indicate three structural fracture families: NW-, NNE-, and NNW- trending, related to the Indosinian, middle Yanshanian, and late Yanshanian orogeny, respectively. The Indosinian NW- and end-Mesozoic NNE-trending fractures produced by compressional tectonic stress mainly contributed to the formation of the basement reservoirs. The geochemistry of the calcite veins filling these fractures suggests two main types of diagenetic fluids. The fluid of autogenic recharge related to the earlier fills is karstification diffuse flow dominated by internal runoff from rainfall in the highland setting of the Indosinian thrusting orogenic belt. The other fluid of allogenic recharge related to the later fills is the main lateral freshwater flow dominated by external runoff from the catchment in the setting of the horst-lowland within the rifting basin, induced by the Yanshanian destruction of the North China Craton. Finally, the relationship between the three fracture families and two kinds of related fluids is revealed. This allows us to propose a model to understand the polyphase-superimposed fracture-related karst reservoir complexes within the deep carbonate basement of tilting fault blocks that neighbour the Bozhong hydrocarbon kitchen and predict the formation of potential plays with high accuracy.展开更多

The characterization and modeling of fractures in the carbonate reservoir of G oilfield are challenging due to weak conventional well log responses of fractures and a lack of specific logs, such as image logs. This study proposes an integrated approach for characterizing and modeling fractures in the carbonate reservoir. The features, formation mechanism, influencing factors, and prediction methods of fractures in the Asmari Formation carbonate reservoirs of G oilfield were studied using core observation, thin section, image log, cross-dipole acoustic log (CDAL), geomechanics numerical simulation (GNS), and production data. According to CDAL-based fracture density interpretation, GNS-based fracture intensity prediction between wells, and DFN-based rock fracture properties modeling, the quantitative fracture characterization for G oilfield was realized. This research shows that the fractures in the Asamri Formation are mainly medium-to high-angle shear fractures. The substantial compression stress during the Miocene played a major role in the formation of the prominent fractures and determined their trend in the region, with primary trends of NNW-SSE and NNE-SSW. The fracture distribution has regularity, and the fractures in zone A dolomites are more highly developed than that in zone B limestones vertically. Horizontally, fractures intensity is mainly controlled by faults and structural location. The results of this study may benefit the optimization of well design during field development. From 2019 to 2021, three horizontal wells pilot tests were deployed in the fractures belt in zone A, and these fractures prominently increased the permeability of tight dolomite reservoirs. The initial production of the wells is four to five times the average production of other wells in the area, showing a good development effect. Meanwhile, the updated numerical simulation validates that the history match accuracy of water cut based on the dual-porosity model is significantly improved, proving the fracture evaluation and prediction results to be relatively reliable and applicable.展开更多

It is currently important to know how to use the dual laterolog to accurately identify and quantitatively evaluate caves. Using numerical simulation to calculate electrical log responses can provide a theoretical basis for cave identification and evaluation. In this paper, based on the dual laterolog principles, we first study different size spherical cave models using the finite element method (FEM), determine a relation between resistivity and cave filling after comprehensively studying the log responses of cave models with different filling material, and finally study the dual laterolog responses on caves filled with shale, limestone, conglomerate, and thin laminated formation of sand and shale. The numerical results provide a theoretical basis for identification and evaluation of carbonate cave reservoirs.展开更多

Geothermal reservoir fracture distribution of the Mesoproterozoic Jixianian Wumishan Formation(Fm.) carbonate reservoir in the Rongcheng geothermal field are evaluated based on FMI log from Wells D19 and D21. The results show carbonate reservoir fracture density of Well D19 is 15.2/100 m, greater than that of Well D21 with a value of 9.2/100 m. Reservoir porosity and permeability of Well D19 are better than that of Well D21, and the water saturation is bimodally distributed. The movable fluid volume ratio(BVM) of Well D19 is 2% to 8% with some zones exceeding 20%, while the value of Well D21 is less than 4%. Therefore, reservoir fractures in Well D19 are more conducive to fluid flow. Reservoir fractures have a similar occurrence to normal faults, indicating that the tensile stress field controlled the formation of such fractures. Developed reservoir fractures provide a good channel for groundwater convection. The circulation of regional groundwater and the heat exchange between water and rock and the multiple heat accumulation patterns form a stable and high potential heat reservoir in the Rongcheng geothermal field.展开更多

However, the deep ancient Ediacaran (Sinian) dolomite presents a substantial challenge due to their tightness and heterogeneity, rather than assumed large-area stratified reservoirs controlled by mound-shoal microfacies. This complicates the characterization of “sweet spot” reservoirs crucial for efficient gas exploitation. By analyzing compiled geological, geophysical and production data, this study investigates the impact of strike-slip fault on the development and distribution of high-quality “sweet spot” (fractured-vuggy) reservoirs in the Ediacaran dolomite of the Anyue gas field. The dolomite matrix reservoir exhibits low porosity (less than 4%) and low permeability (less than 0.5×10^(-3) μm^(2)). Contrarily, fractures and their dissolution processes along strike-slip fault zone significantly enhance matrix permeability by more than one order of magnitude and matrix porosity by more than one time. Widespread “sweet spot” fracture-vuggy reservoirs are found along the strike-slip fault zone, formed at the end of the Ediacaran. These fractured reservoirs are controlled by the coupling mechanisms of sedimentary microfacies, fracturing and karstification. Karstification prevails at the platform margin, while both fracturing and karstification control high-quality reservoirs in the intraplatform, resulting in reservoir diversity in terms of scale, assemblage and type. The architecture of the strike-slip fault zone governed the differential distribution of fracture zones and the fault-controlled “sweet spot” reservoirs, leading to wide fractured-vuggy reservoirs across the strike-slip fault zone. In conclusion, the intracratonic weak strike-slip fault can play a crucial role in improving tight carbonate reservoir, and the strike-slip fault-related “sweet spot” reservoir emerges as a unique and promising target for the efficient development of deep hydrocarbon resources. Tailored development strategies need to be implemented for these reservoirs, considering the diverse and differential impacts exerted by strike-slip faults on the reservoirs.展开更多

Enhanced oil recovery methods were studied considering the development practice of Tahe oilfield. Research shows that the main controlling factors of residual oil distribution after water flooding in fracture-cavity carbonate reservoirs can be classified into four categories: local high point, insufficient well control, flow channel shielding and weak hydrodynamic. It is a systematic project to improve oil recovery in fracture-cavity carbonate reservoirs. In the stage of natural depletion, production should be well regulated to prevent bottom water channeling. In the early stage of waterflooding, injection-production relationship should be constructed according to reservoir type, connectivity and spatial location to enhance control and producing degree of waterflooding and minimize remaining oil. In the middle and late stage, according to the main controlling factors and distribution characteristics of remaining oil after water flooding, remaining oil should be tapped precisely by making use of gravity differentiation and capillary force imbibition, enhancing well control, disturbing the flow field and so on. Meanwhile, backup technologies of reservoir stimulation, new injection media, intelligent optimization etc. should be developed, smooth shift from water injection to gas injection should be ensured to maximize oil recovery.展开更多

These reservoirs are formed by unconnected and interconnected networks of karstic porosity forming a heterogeneous and complex reservoir system. Oil, water and gas characteristics vary significantly in different portions of the Ordovician reservoir. There is no uniform oil/water contact in the field, adding to its complexity. An acid fracture treatment is beneficial in 76% of the wells, stimulating nonproductive wells and enhancing production in other wells by fracturing into unconnected reservoirs and enhancing flow pathways with acid. Acid fracture treatments should be a standard procedure for developing this and similar oil fields.展开更多

It is difficult to evaluate this kind of reservoir because of its heterogeneously distributed fractures and anisotropy, A three-dimensional numerical model was used to simulate the responses of the dual laterolog (DLL) in a fractured formation based on a macro-isotropic anisotropic model, Accordingly, a fast fracture computing method was developed. First, the apparent conductivity of the DLL is linearly related to the porosity of the fracture and the conductivity of pore fluid. Second, the amplitude difference of the deep and shallow apparent resistivity logs is mainly dependent on the dip angle of the fracture. Then the response of the DLL to a formation with dip angle fractures is approximately depicted as a function of the bulk resistivity of the rock, the porosity of the fractures and the conductivity of fracture fluid. This function can be used to compute the porosity of fracture quickly. The actual data show that the fracture parameters determined by the DLL closely coincide with the formation micro imager log.展开更多

The seismic responses of these beds clearly changes depending on the different distance of the fracture-cavity reservoir bed from the top of the section. The seismic reflection becomes weak or is absent when the fracture-cavity reservoir beds are less than 20 ms below the top Ordovician. The effect on top Ordovician reflection became weaker with deeper burial of fracture-cavity reservoir beds but the developed deep fracture-cavity reservoir beds caused stronger reflection in the interior of the Ordovician. This interior reflection can be divided into strong long-axis, irregular and bead string reflections, and was present 80 ms below the top Ordovician. Aimed at understanding reflection characteristics, the spectral decomposition technique, which uses frequency to "tune-in" bed thickness, was used to predict Ordovician fracture-cavity carbonate formations in the Tahe oilfield. Through finely adjusting the processing parameters of spectral decomposition, it was found that the slice at 30 Hz of the tuned data cube can best represent reservoir bed development. Two large N-S-trending strong reflection belts in the mid-western part of the study area along wells TK440- TK427-TK417B and in the eastern part along wells TK404-TK409 were observed distinctly on the 30 Hz slice and 4-D time-frequency data cube carving. A small N-S trending reflection belt in the southern part along wells T403-TK446B was also clearly identified. The predicted reservoir bed development area coincides with the fracture-cavities connection area confirmed by drilling pressure testing results. Deep karst cavities occur basically in three reservoir bed-development belts identified by the Ordovician interior strong reflection. Spectral decomposition proved to be a useful technique in identifying fracture-cavity reservoir beds.展开更多

文摘The Palaeozoic carbonate basement of the Offshore Bohai Bay Basin (OBBB) presents considerable potential for hydrocarbon exploration. 文摘The deeply buried Lower Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation and Upper Ediacaran Dengying Formation from the Sichuan Basin,China, have a total natural gas reserve up to 3×10^(12)m^(3).The complex diagenetic evolution and their impacts on the present-day reservoir quality have not been systematically elucidated, hampering the current exploration.Crucially, the integration and comparation diagenetic study on these two formations, which may be able to shed new lights on reservoir formation mechanism, are yet to be systemically evaluated.By compiling geochemistry data, including carbonate U-Pb ages and petrophysics data, coupled with new petrology, trace elements, and strontium isotope data,of various types of diagenetic carbonates, this study aims to decipher the potential links between diagenesis and reservoir development of both formations.Intriguingly, similar diagenetic sequence, which contains five distinctive dolomite phases,is established in both formations. The matrix dolomite(D1)and early dolomite cement(D2)were likely formed by reflux dolomitization,as inferred by their nearly syn-depositional U-Pb ages and elevatedδ^(18)O caused by seawater evaporation. The subsequent moderate burial dolomite cement(D3)was most plausibly the product of burial compaction as indicated by its lighterδ^(18)O and slightly younger U-Pb ages compared with D1 and D2.Whereas deep burial dolomite cements(D4 and D5)yield markedly depletedδ^(18)O,elevated ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr,along with much younger U-Pb ages and higher precipitation temperatures, suggesting that they were likely linked to hydrothermal fluids.Despite the wide occurrence of meteoric and organic acids leaching and thermochemical sulfate reduction, they may have only played a subsidiary role on these reservoirs development.Instead, superior reservoir quality is tightly linked to tectonics as inferred by higher reservoir quality closely related to the well-developed fractures and faults filled with abundant hydrothermal minerals.Notably, good reservoirs in both formations are mainly attributed to high permeability caused by tectonics.Hence, this new contribution emphasizes the crucial role of tectonics on spatially explicit reservoir prediction of deep to ultra-deep(up to>8000 m)carbonates in the Sichuan Basin,as well as other sedimentary basin analogues in China.

文摘The Asmari Formation in the G oilfield on the Iran-Iraq border is a fractured-porous multi-lithology mixed reservoir, for which fracture is an important factor affecting oil productivity and water cut. Meanwhile, the updated numerical simulation validates that the history match accuracy of water cut based on the dual-porosity model is significantly improved, proving the fracture evaluation and prediction results to be relatively reliable and applicable.

文摘Cave carbonate formations are characterized by heterogeneity, which makes electrical log prediction difficult. The numerical results provide a theoretical basis for identification and evaluation of carbonate cave reservoirs.

文摘Geothermal energy plays an important role in urban construction of the Xiong’an New Area. The circulation of regional groundwater and the heat exchange between water and rock and the multiple heat accumulation patterns form a stable and high potential heat reservoir in the Rongcheng geothermal field.

文摘The largest Precambrian gas field (Anyue gas field) in China has been discovered in the central Sichuan Basin. Tailored development strategies need to be implemented for these reservoirs, considering the diverse and differential impacts exerted by strike-slip faults on the reservoirs.

文摘Based on comprehensive analysis of core, well logging, seismic and production data, the multi-scale reservoir space, reservoir types, spatial shape and distribution of fractures and caves, and the configuration relationship with production wells in fracture-cavity carbonate reservoirs were studied systematically, the influence of them on the distribution of residual oil was analyzed, and the main controlling factors mode of residual oil distribution after water flooding was established. Meanwhile, backup technologies of reservoir stimulation, new injection media, intelligent optimization etc. should be developed, smooth shift from water injection to gas injection should be ensured to maximize oil recovery.

文摘The karst cave serves as the primary storage space in carbonate reservoirs.Simultaneously connecting multiple karst caves through hydraulic fracturing is key to the efficient development of carbonate reservoirs. However, there is lack of systematic research on the mechanisms and influencing factors of fracture propagation in car-bonate rocks. This paper established models including karst cave models, single natural fracture-cave models, and multiple natural fracture-cave models based on the discrete lattice method. It thoroughly studied how geological and operational factors affect the fracture propagation and the connectivity of karst caves. The final step involved establishing a prototype well model and optimizing operation parameters. The research indicates that an increase in the Young's modulus and pore pressure of karst cave could facilitate hydraulic fracture connecting with caves. When the pore pressure is lower than that in the matrix,it will generate a repulsive effect on hydraulic fractures. The natural fracture along the hydraulic fracture path significantly facilitates the connection with caves. When the wellbore azimuth is less than 60℃,the fracture's diversion radius is small, and hydraulic fractures primarily connect with karst cave through natural fractures. When the wellbore azimuth exceeds 60℃,the fracture's diversion radius increases.Under the combined action of hydraulic fractures and natural fractures, the stimulated volume of the karst cave noticeably increases.Under the same liquid volume, increasing the injection rate could enhance the cave stimulated volume.Combining the findings from numerical simulation studies resulted in the development of a diagram that depicts the connectivity of karst caves, providing valuable insight for hydraulic fracturing operations in carbonate reservoirs.
文摘About 88. 1% of the proven reserves in the Tahe Oilfield in the Tarim Basin of Northwest China are trapped in Ordovician carbonate reservoirs. Acid fracture treatments should be a standard procedure for developing this and similar oil fields.
文摘The carbonate rocks in Tahe oilfield, which suffered from multi-period polycycle karstification and structure deformation, are heterogeneous reservoirs that are rich in pores, cavities, and fractures. The reservoirs are diversified in scale, space configuration, and complex in filling. For this kind of reservoir, a suite of seismic prestack or poststack prediction techniques has been developed based on the separation of seismic wave fields. Through cross-verification of the estimated results,a detailed description of palaeogeomorphology and structural features such as pores, cavities, and fractures in unaka has been achieved, the understanding of the spatial distribution of reservoir improved.

文摘The estimation of fractures is key to evaluating fractured carbonate reservoirs. The actual data show that the fracture parameters determined by the DLL closely coincide with the formation micro imager log.

文摘Refracturing treatment is often performed on Russian carbonate reservoirs because of the quick production decline of reservoirs. The traditional refracturing model assumes that a refracture initiates in the normal direction relative to the initial hydro-fracture.This assumption is inconsistent with oilfield measurements of refracture propagation trajectories.Indeed, the existing model is not based on an indepth understanding of initiation and propagation mechanisms of the second hydraulic fractures during refracturing. In this study,we use the extended finite element method to investigate refracture propagation paths at different initiation angles. Both the enriched function approach and phantom mode technique are incorporated into the refracturing model, thereby ensuring that the refracture can freely extend on the structured mesh without any refinement near the crack tips.Key factors including production time, stress anisotropy and initiation angle, and the propped mechanical effect are analyzed in detail. This study provides new insight into the mechanism of refracture propagation in unconventional reservoirs.

文摘Fracture seepage and heat transfer in the geothermal reservoir of carbonate rocks after the reinjection of low temperature geothermal return water is a complex coupling process, which is also the frontier of geothermal production and reinjection research.Based on the research of cascade comprehensive development of geothermal resources in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(Xian County),the carbonate geothermal reservoir of Wumishan formation in the geothermal field in Xian County is investigated. With the development of the discrete fracture network model and the coupling model of seepage and heat transfer, the numerical solution of seepage field and temperature field with known fracture network is reached using the finite element software COMSOL,and the coupling process of seepage flow and heat in carbonate rocks is revealed. The results show that the distribution of temperature field of fractured rocks in geothermal reservoir of carbonate rocks has strong non-uniformity and anisotropy. The fracture network is interpenetrated, which constitutes the dominant channel of water conduction, and along which the fissure water moves rapidly.Under the influence of convective heat transfer and conductive heat transfer, one of the main factors to be considered in the study of thermal breakthrough is to make the cold front move forward rapidly. When the reinjection and production process continues for a long time and the temperature of the geothermal reservoir on the pumping side drops to a low level, the temperature of bedrocks is still relatively high and continues to supply heat to the fissure water,so that the temperature of the thermal reservoir on the pumping side will not decrease rapidly to the water temperature at the inlet of reinjection, but will gradually decrease after a long period of time, showing an obvious long tail effect. The distribution of fractures will affect the process of seepage and heat transfer in carbonate reservoirs, which should be considered in the study of fluid thermal coupling in carbonate reservoirs.

文摘An intelligent prediction method for fractures in tight carbonate reservoir has been established by upgrading single-well fracture identification and interwell fracture trend prediction with artificial intelligence, modifying construction of interwell fracture density model, and modeling fracture network and making fracture property equivalence. This method deeply mines fracture information in multi-source isomerous data of different scales to reduce uncertainties of fracture prediction.Based on conventional fracture indicating parameter method,a prediction method of single-well fractures has been worked out by using 3 kinds of artificial intelligence methods to improve fracture identification accuracy from 3 aspects, small sample classification,multi-scale nonlinear feature extraction, and decreasing variance of the prediction model.Fracture prediction by artificial intelligence using seismic attributes provides many details of inter-well fractures. It is combined with fault-related fracture information predicted by numerical simulation of reservoir geomechanics to improve inter-well fracture trend prediction. An interwell fracture density model for fracture network modeling is built by coupling single-well fracture identification and interwell fracture trend through co-sequential simulation.By taking the tight carbonate reservoir of Oligocene-Miocene AS Formation of A Oilfield in Zagros Basin of the Middle East as an example, the proposed prediction method was applied and verified. The single-well fracture identification improves over 15%compared with the conventional fracture indication parameter method in accuracy rate, and the inter-well fracture prediction improves over 25%compared with the composite seismic attribute prediction. The established fracture network model is well consistent with the fluid production index.
文摘Ordovician fracture-cavity carbonate reservoir beds are the major type of producing formations in the Tahe oilfield, Tarim Basin. Spectral decomposition proved to be a useful technique in identifying fracture-cavity reservoir beds.

文摘Considering the fluid flow non-darcy characteristics in fracture-vug carbonate reservoirs, a new multi-scale conduit flow model production prediction method for fracture-vug carbonate reservoirs was presented using image segmentation technique of electric imaging logging data. Firstly, based on Hagen-Poiseuille's law of incompressible fluid flow and the different cross-sectional areas in single fractures and vugs in carbonate reservoirs, a multi-scale conduit flow model for fracture-vug carbonate reservoir was established, and a multi-scale conduit radial fluid flow equation was deduced. Then, conduit flow production index was introduced. The conduit flow production index was calculated using fracture-vug area extracted from the result of electrical image segmentation. Finally, production prediction of fracture-vug carbonate reservoir was realized by using electric imaging logging data. The method has been applied to Ordovician fracture-vug carbonate reservoirs in the Tabei area, and the predicted results are in good agreement with the oil testing data.
