On the basis of the theories of mechanics of explosive and rock fracture mechanics, the mechanism of crack initiation and its expansion of directional fracture controlled blasting with shaped charges in rock were studied, then the blasting parameters were designed and tested by a model test in laboratory and field experiment. The experimental and test results showed that the energy from blasting is directionally concentrated for the cumulative action. The directional expansion of cracks is satisfactory, the results of the model test and field test suggested that the orientation fracture blasting with shaped charge is a good means of excavating tunnels or cutting rock. 展开更多

Accurate estimation of fracture density and orientation is of great significance for seismic characterization of fractured reservoirs. Here,we propose a novel methodology to estimate fracture density and orientation from azimuthal elastic impedance(AEI)difference using singular value decomposition(SVD).Based on Hudson's model,we first derive the AEI equation containing fracture density in HTI media, and then obtain basis functions and singular values from the normalized AEI difference utilizing SVD.Analysis shows that the basis function changing with azimuth is related to fracture orientation, fracture density is the linearly weighted sum of singular values, and the first singular value contributes the most to fracture density. Thus,we develop an SVD-based fracture density and orientation inversion approach constrained by smooth prior elastic parameters.Synthetic example shows that fracture density and orientation can be stably estimated, and the correlation coefficient between the true value and the estimated fracture density is above 0.85 even when an S/N ratio of 2.Field data example shows that the estimated fracture orientation is consistent with the interpretation of image log data, and the estimated fracture density reliably indicates fractured gas-bearing reservoir, which could help to guide the exploration and development of fractured reservoirs. 展开更多

Fracture system plays a very important role in the enrichment and accumulation of oil and gas in the reservoirs. Based on scattering wave information, Fracture Orientation Function (FOF) was built, which can be used to predict the fracture orientations. However, this method has only been verified by physical experiments without studies on the application scope. In this study, based on the linear sliding theory, F0F of the scattering wave was applied to the numerical simulation and the application scope was further studied according to fracture flexibility tensor. According to the fractures filled with gas and liquid, numerical simulation was conducted on the models with various fracture flexibilities. Numerical simulation results were used to inverse fracture orientation with the aid of the FOF of the scattering wave. The results show that it is workable to predict the vertical fracture orientation with the F0F of the scattering wave. Application of this method is more effective when the fractures are filled with gas than liquid. Moreover, the application scope can be predicted by the fracture flexibility. 展开更多

The results of quantitative analysis of fracture orientation distribution according to the pair of stereonet windows among 05 different survey sites along the segment Tien Yen-Mui Chua, belong to Cao Bang-Tien Yen fault zone, Quang Ninh province, Viet Nam showed that, the correlation values are over 0.80 corresponding to 50%, over 0.75 corresponding to 30% and over 0.65 corresponding to 20%. These values are quite consistent with over 60% of the fracture number in the direction of NW-SE. Especially, the compatibility is clearly reflected in the determination of the frequency of fracture measurements within the division intervals of 20 degrees for dip direction and 10 degrees for dip angle at 05 different survey sites. 展开更多

It is not uncommon to observe shear fractures in ductile rocks oriented at more than 45° with respect to the maximum compression direction. Since these orientations cannot be explained with the classic Mohr-Coulumb or Tresca yield criteria, Zheng et al.(Journal of Structural Geology, 35: 1394–1405, 2011) proposed the maximum effective moment(MEM) failure criterion. This rule suggests that shear fractures in ductile rocks form at ?55° with the maximum compression axis and that this orientation is material-independent and, therefore, universal. Zheng et al.(Science China: Earth Sciences, 57(11): 2819–2824, 2014) used data from our own experiments as supporting evidence of their failure criterion. In this contribution we discuss why shear fracture formation in ductile rocks indeed strongly depends on the mechanical properties of the deforming medium, and why experimental data should not be taken to prove the validity of the MEM criterion. The formation mechanisms and orientations of shear fractures in our experiments significantly vary depending on the material strength and degree and type of anisotropy(composite and intrinsic). We therefore demonstrate using experimental data that a universal failure angle in ductile and anisotropic rocks does not apply. Additionally, we highlight some inconsistencies of the MEM criterion. 展开更多
