By taking infinite periodic beams as examples,the mutual variational principle for analyzing the free wave propagation in periodic structures is established and demonstrated through the use of the propaga- tion constant in the present paper,and the corresponding hierarchical finite element formulation is then de- rived.Thus,it provides the numerical analysis of that problem with a firm theoretical basis of variational prin- ciples,with which one may conveniently illustrate the mathematical and physical mechanisms of the wave prop- agation in periodic structures and the relationship with the natural vibration.The solution is discussed and ex- amples are given. 展开更多

Free Propagation of Wave in Viscoelastic Cables with Small Curvature

The coupled longitudinal-transverse waves propagating freely along a viscoelastic cable was studied. The frequency-spectrum equation governing propagating waves and the formulations of the phase velocities and the group velocities characterizing propagating waves were derived. The effects of viscosity parameters on the phase velocities and the group velocities were investigated with numerical simulation. The analyses show that viscosity has a strong influence on the phase velocity and the group velocity of propagating waves and attenuation waves for longitudinal-dominant waves, but the phase velocities of propagating waves of transverse-dominant waves do not change with viscosity. 展开更多

Effects of trace addition of Ag on the fatigue crack propagation behavior and microstructure of a mediumstrength aged AI-Zn-Mg alloy were investigated in the present work. The results show that a combination of enhanced tensile strength and improved fatigue crack propagation resistance in Al-Zn-Mg alloys is achieved with small addition of Ag. The enhanced strength is attributed to the high density of η' precip- itates within the grains and narrow precipitate free zones in the vicinity of grain boundaries. The main contribution to the improvement of fatigue crack propagation resistance comes from the coarser precipitates within the grains. When subjected to two-step aging. Ag-added alloy shows larger semi-coherent matrix precipitates. These relatively coarser precipitates increase the homogeneity of deformation and therefore improve the fatigue crack propagation resistance. In addition, microstructure analysis indicates that the size and distribution of inclusions as well as the grain structures of Al-Zn-Mg alloys are independent of Ag addition. 展开更多
