Revolutionary and evolutionary techniques are encumbered with sophisticated transformations, which weaken the techniques. Power loss minimization is crucial to the efficient design and operation of power transmission lines. Minimization of losses is one way to meet steady grid supply, especially at peak demand. Thus, this paper has presented a gradient technique to obtain optimal variables and values from the power loss model, which efficiently minimizes power losses by modifying the traditional power loss model that combines Ohm and Corona losses. Optimality tests showed that the unmodified model does not support the minimization of power losses on transmission lines as the Hessian matrix portrayed the maximization of power losses. However, the modified model is consistent with the gradient method of optimization, which yielded optimum variables and values from the power loss model developed in this study. The unmodified (modified) models for Bujagali-Kawanda 220 kV and Masaka West-Mbarara North 132 kV transmission lines in Uganda showed maximum power losses of 0.406 (0.391) and 0.452 (0.446) kW/km/phase respectively. These results indicate that the modified model is superior to the unmodified model in minimizing power losses in the transmission lines and should be implemented for the efficient design and operation of power transmission lines within and outside Uganda for the same transmission voltages.展开更多

Channel coding and diversity techniques are commonly used to combat channel fading induced by atmospheric turbulence. In this paper, we present the generalized block Markov superposition transmission(GBMST) of repetition codes to improve time diversity. In the GBMST scheme, information sub-blocks are transmitted in the block Markov superposition manner, with possibly different transmission memories. Based on analyzing an equivalent system, a lower bound on the bit-error-rate(BER) of the proposed scheme is presented. Simulation results demonstrate that, under a wide range of turbulence conditions, the proposed scheme improves diversity gain with only a slight reduction of transmission rate. In particular, with encoding memory sequence(0, 0, 8) and transmission rate 1/3, a diversity order of eleven is achieved under moderate turbulence conditions. Numerical results also show that, the GBMST systems with appropriate settings can approach the derived lower bound, implying that full diversity is achievable.展开更多

Several types of FBG-FPs are inscribed experimentally, and their spectra are measured. The results confirm that weak intra-cavity loss is enhanced at the resonance transmission peak, that is, loss of transmission peaks is observably larger than other wavelengths. For FBG-FPs with multi resonance peaks, when the resonance peak wavelength is closer to the Bragg wavelength, the more significant loss effect of resonance transmission peak is exhibited. The measured spectra are fitted with the presented theoretical model. The fitted coefficient of determinations are near 1,which proves the validity of the theoretical model. This study can be applied to measure FBG loss more accurately, without a reference light. It can play an important role in FBG and FBG-FP writing process optimization and application parameter optimization.展开更多

Linear frequency-modulated signals with a frequency band of 260-360Hz were transmitted by a transducer hung on a floating ship during the experiment and were received by a horizontal line array towed by another ship sailing away from the transducer. The maximum distance between the two ships was 1029km. Signals were received at the distances 34-220 kin, 612-635 km and 926-1029 kin. Transmission loss versus distance between source and receiver was obtained and compared with the theoretical results predicted by the parabolic equation method program RAM. It is shown that RAM is adequate for estimating the transmission loss for distances up to 1029km. When the water depth is larger than the surface conjugate depth, the ocean bottom rarely influences the transmission loss in the convergence zones. However, in the opposite situation, the ocean bottom contributes significantly to the transmission loss.展开更多

The rectangular-pulse method based on the computational fluid dynamics approach was employed for calculating the transmission loss. Firstly, the transmission loss of the single-cavity element was simulated without any airflow, and the effects of different structural parameters on the acoustic performance were investigated comprehensively. Secondly, the static transmission loss of the perforated intake pipe was obtained by the rectangular-pulse method, which is proved to be accurate enough compared with the result by finite element method. Thirdly, under the different conditions of the mean airflow and the operating temperature, the specific transmission loss was acquired respectively. In general, the peaks of the transmission loss are shifted to the lower frequency range because of the reverse airflow, but the amplitudes are irregularly changed. Besides, when the operating temperature increases, the peaks are shifted to the higher frequencies. Finally, with the designed perforated pipe installed to the intake system, the road tests were proceeded to evaluate the actual acoustic performance, and the result indicates that the intake sound pressure level is greatly attenuated. Typically in the range of 600–1500 Hz, the insertion loss of the intake noise at the decelerating moment is almost 20 d B(A), and the overall noise is reduced more than 14.2 d B(A). In conclusion, the perforated intake pipe has been proved excellent in improving the acoustic performance of intake system and could provide the guidance for the automotive engineering application.展开更多

The increasing of the thickness led to an increase of the TL values and a decrease in resonance frequencies. Also, the addition of liquid middle layer led to considerable increase of the TL.

文摘Coaxial-disk transitions can generate non-uniform magnetic fields and abrupt impedance variations in magnetically insulated transmission lines(MITLs),resulting in disturbed electron flow and non-negligible current loss.In this paper,3 D particle-in-cell simulations are conducted with UNPIC-3 d to investigate the current loss mechanism and the influence of the input parameters of the coaxial-disk transition on current loss in an MITL system. The results reveal that the magnetic field non-uniformity causes major current loss in the MITL after the coaxialdisk transition, and the non-uniformity decreases with the distance away from the transition. The uniformity of the magnetic field is improved when increasing the number of feed lines of a linear transformer driver-based accelerator with coaxial-disk transitions. The number of input feed lines should be no less than four in the azimuthal distribution to obtain acceptable uniformity of the magnetic field. To make the ratio of the current loss to the total current of the accelerator less than 2%at peak anode current, the ratio of the current in each feed line to the total current should be no less than 8%.
文摘Honeycomb structures have recently, replaced with conventional homogeneous materials.Given the fact that sandwich panels containing a honeycomb core are able to adjust geometric parameters, including internal angles, they are suitable for acoustic control applications. The main objective of this study was to obtain a transmission loss curve in a specific honeycomb frequency range along with same overall dimensions and weight. In this study,a finite element model(FEM)in ABAQUS software was used to simulate honeycomb panels, evaluate resonant frequencies, and for acoustic analysis. This model was used to obtain acoustic pressure and then to calculate the sound transmission loss(STL)in MATLAB software.Vibration and acoustic analysis of panels were performed in the frequency range of 1 to 1000 Hz.The models analyzed in this design includes 14-single row-honeycomb designs with angles of−45°,−30°,−15°,0°,+15°,+30°,+45°.The results showed that a-single row and−45°cell angle honeycomb panel in the frequency range of 1 to 1000 Hz had the highest STL as well as the highest number of frequency modes(90 mods).Furthermore, the panel had the highest STL regarding the area under the STL curve(dB∙Hz).The panels containing more frequency mods, have a higher transmission loss. Moreover, the sound transmission loss is more sensitive to the cell angle variable(θ).In other studies, the STL was more sensitive to the number of honeycomb cells in the horizontal and vertical directions,as well as the angle of cells.

文摘A novel metamaterial plate with subwavelength lever-type resonators is proposed to obtain low frequency broadband band gaps and good sound insulation performance. The band structure is theoretically derived, and the validity of the theoretical method is verified by the finite element method. The formation mechanisms of the band gaps are illustrated by the analysis of the effective dynamic mass density and group velocity. The effect of the lever ratio on the band gaps is analyzed. The results indicate that as the lever ratio increases, the first band gap shifts to lower frequencies, while the bandwidth is widened. Moreover, the sound insulation performance of the proposed metamaterial plate is evaluated via examining the sound transmission loss(STL).Compared with the metamaterial plates without lever accessories, the proposed metamaterial plates with a suitable lever ratio have better sound insulation performance at low frequencies.

文摘To solve the problems associated with low resolution and high computational effort infinite time, this paper proposes a fast forward modeling method for muon energy loss transmission tomography based on a model voxelization energy loss projection algorithm.First, the energy loss equation for muon transmission tomography is derived from the Bethe–Bloch formula, and the imaging region is then dissected into several units using the model voxelization method.Thereafter, the three-dimensional(3-D)imaging model is discretized into parallel and equally spaced two-dimensional(2-D)slices using the model layering method to realize a dimensional reduction of the 3-D volume data and accelerate the forward calculation speed.Subsequently, the muon energy loss transmission tomography equation is discretized using the ray energy loss projection method to establish a set of energy loss equations for the muon penetration voxel model. Finally, the muon energy loss values at the outgoing point are obtained by solving the projection coefficient matrix of the ray length-weighted model, achieving a significant reduction in the number of muons and improving the computational efficiency.A comparison of our results with the simulation results based on the Monte Carlo method verifies the accuracy and effectiveness of the algorithm proposed in this paper. The metallic mineral identification tests show that the proposed algorithm can quickly identify high-density metallic minerals. The muon energy loss response can accurately identify the boundary of the anomalies and their spatial distribution characteristics.

文摘An improved method for calculating the corona power loss and the ground-level electric field on HVAC transmission lines induced by corona is proposed.Based on a charge simulation method combined with a method of successive images, the proposed method has the number and location of the simulated charges not arbitrary. When the surface electric field of a conductor exceeds the onset value, charges are emitted from corona into the space around, and the space ions and the surface charges on each sub-conductor are simulated by using the images of the other sub-conductors.The displacements of the space ions are calculated at every time step during corona periods in both the positive and the negative half cycles.Several examples are calculated by using the proposed method, and the calculated electric field at the ground level and the corona power loss agree well with previous measurements. The results show that simulating 12 charges in each conductor during 600 time steps in one cycle takes less time while guarantees the accuracy. The corona discharge from a 220 kV transmission line enhances slightly(less than 2%) the electric field at the ground level, but this effect is little from a 500 kV line. The improved method is a good compromise between the time cost and the accuracy of calculation.
文摘Based on the data of China Statistical Yearbooks, the current situation and development trend of the energy consumption of residential hot-water was discussed in this paper. Two hundred and sixty eight apartments were surveyed on the installation and operation situations of residential water heaters in five cities. Based on survey data, the proportion of pipeline heat loss was calculated in the energy consumption of a shower/bath. The influence factors of heat loss in residential hot-water pipeline network were discussed, and the measures were suggested for reducing the transport heat loss. The statistics and analysis conclusion have directive significance to reducing the transport heat loss.
