Through core observation, thin section identification,X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption and isothermal adsorption experiments, the lithology and pore characteristics of the Upper Carboniferous bauxite series in eastern Ordos Basin were analyzed to reveal the formation and evolution process of the bauxite reservoirs.A petrological nomenclature and classification scheme for bauxitic rocks based on three units(aluminum hydroxides, iron minerals and clay minerals)is proposed. It is found that bauxitic mudstone is in the form of dense massive and clastic structures, while the(clayey)bauxite is of dense massive, pisolite, oolite, porous soil and clastic structures. Both bauxitic mudstone and bauxite reservoirs develop dissolution pores, intercrystalline pores, and microfractures as the dominant gas storage space, with the porosity less than 10% and mesopores in dominance. The bauxite series in the North China Craton can be divided into five sections,i.e.,ferrilite(Shanxi-style iron ore, section A),bauxitic mudstone(section B),bauxite(section C),bauxite mudstone(debris-containing,section D)and dark mudstone-coal section(section E).The burrow/funnel filling,lenticular,layered/massive bauxite deposits occur separately in the karst platforms, gentle slopes and low-lying areas. The karst platforms and gentle slopes are conducive to surface water leaching, with strong karstification,well-developed pores, large reservoir thickness and good physical properties, but poor strata continuity. The low-lying areas have poor physical properties but relatively continuous and stable reservoirs. The gas enrichment in bauxites is jointly controlled by source rock, reservoir rock and fractures. This recognition provides geological basis for the exploration and development of natural gas in the Upper Carboniferous in the study area and similar bauxite systems. 展开更多

The northward subduction of the Neo-Tethys oceanic crust triggered multiple magmatic activities in the West Myanmar Arc,which in turn influenced the deposition of sedimentary pyroclastic rocks from the Cretaceous to Eocene strata in the Central Myanmar Basin(CMB).The pore structure of these lithologic reservoirs is complex and rich in tuffaceous sandstone, which plays an adverse role in reservoir development in this region. To understand the development characteristics and genetic mechanism of the pyroclastic rocks within three sets of reservoirs in this area,a comprehensive analysis was conducted through borehole core observations, thin section identification, scanning electron microscope analysis, and mercury injection tests. The tuffaceous sandstone from the upper Cretaceous to the Eocene is dominated by intermediate-acid volcanic rock debris. The pyroclastic rocks exhibit evident chloritization and ironization, with residual intergranular pores being the principal type accompanied by a smaller amount of intergranular dissolved pores and intragranular dissolved pores. The highest porosity is observed in the Eocene tuffaceous sandstone, ranging from 8%to 12%.The Late Cretaceous to Paleocene sandstones exhibit lower porosity levels of only 4%-6%.These reservoirs are characterized by their low porosity and low-permeability.Despite the presence of a good source rock in this area, the volcanic debris particles filling the pores,as well as their subsequent devitrification, chloritization, and limonite mineralization, result in pore throat blockage and narrowing. The reservoirs in this area are small in size, exhibit poor reservoir connectivity and lateral continuity, and fail to meet the necessary conditions for commercial-scale hydrocarbon accumulation and migration. 展开更多

The Middle Permian Qixia Formation in the Shuangyushi area, northwestern Sichuan Basin, develops shoal-facies dolomite reservoirs. To pinpoint promising reservoirs in the Qixia Formation, deep thin shoal-facies dolomite reservoirs were predicted using the techniques of pre-stack Kirchhoff-Q compensation for absorption, inverse Q filtering,low-to high-frequency compensation, forward modeling, and facies-controlled seismic meme inversion. The results are obtained in six aspects.First, the dolomite reservoirs mainly exist in the middle and lower parts of the second member of Qixia Formation(Qi2 Member),which coincide with the zones shoal cores are developed.Second, the forward modeling shows that the trough energy at the top and bottom of shoal core increases with increasing shoal-core thickness, and weak peak reflections are associated in the middle of shoal core.Third, five types of seismic waveform are identified through waveform analysis of seismic facies.Type-Ⅰ and Type-Ⅱ waveforms correspond to promising facies(shoal core microfacies).Fourth, vertically, two packages of thin dolomite reservoirs turn up in the sedimentary cycle of intraplatform shoal in the Qi2 Member, and the lower package is superior to the upper package in dolomite thickness, scale and lateral connectivity.Fifth,in plane, significantly controlled by sedimentary facies, dolomite reservoirs laterally distribute with consistent thickness in shoal cores at topographical highs and extend toward the break.Sixth, the promising prospects are the zones with thick dolomite reservoirs and superimposition of horstegraben structural traps. 展开更多

Based on new data from cores, drilling and logging, combined with extensive rock and mineral testing analysis,a systematic analysis is conducted on the characteristics, diagenesis types, genesis and controlling factors of deep to ultra-deep abnormally high porosity clastic rock reservoirs in the Oligocene Linhe Formation in the Hetao Basin. The reservoir space of the deep to ultra-deep clastic rock reservoirs in the Linhe Formation is mainly primary pores, and the coupling of three favorable diagenetic elements, namely the rock fabric with strong compaction resistance, weak thermal compaction diagenetic dynamic field, and diagenetic environment with weak fluid compaction-weak cementation,is conducive to the preservation of primary pores. The Linhe Formation clastic rocks have a superior preexisting material composition, with an average total content of 90%for quartz, feldspar, and rigid rock fragments, and strong resistance to compaction. The geothermal gradient in Linhe Depression in the range of(2.0–2.6)°C/100 m is low,and together with the burial history of long-term shallow burial and late rapid deep burial,it forms a weak thermal compaction diagenetic dynamic field environment. The diagenetic environment of the saline lake basin is characterized by weak fluid compaction. At the same time, the paleosalinity has zoning characteristics, and weak cementation in low salinity areas is conducive to the preservation of primary pores. The hydrodynamic conditions of sedimentation, salinity differentiation of ancient water in saline lake basins, and sand body thickness jointly control the distribution of high-quality reservoirs in the Linhe Formation. 展开更多

Recently, exploration breakthroughs have been made in the Lower Cretaceous sandstone reservoirs in the Doseo Basin, but the identification of reservoir fluid property is difficult due to variable reservoir lithology, complex oil-water contact within and faint responses of the oil zone, which causes the lower accuracy of reservoir fluid property identification with conventional mudlogging and wirelogging techniques.Applying the geochemical logging, fluorescent logging, mud logging and cutting logging technology,in combination with formation test data, this paper distinguishes the crude oil types, analyzes the logging response characteristics of oil zone after water washing, and establishes the interpretation charts and parameter standards for reservoir fluid properties. The crude oil can be divided into two types, namely viscous-heavy and thin-light,based on total hydrocarbon content and component concentration tested by mud logging, features of pyrolysis gas chromatogram and fluorescence spectroscopy. The general characteristics of oil layers experienced water washing include the decrease of total hydrocarbon content and component concentration from mud logging, the decrease of S1 and PS values from geochemical logging, the decrease of hydrocarbon abundance and absence of some light components in pyrolysis gas chromatogram, and the decrease of fluorescence area and intensity from fluorescence logging.According to crude oil types, the cross plots of S1 versus peak-baseline ratio, and the cross plots of rock wettability versus fluorescence area ratio are drawn and used to interpret reservoir fluid property.Meanwhile, the standards of reservoir fluid parameter are established combining with the parameters of PS and the parameters in above charts, and comprehensive multiparameter correlation in both vertical and horizontal ways is also performed to interpret reservoir fluid property. The application in the Doseo Basin achieved great success, improving interpretation ability of fluid property in the reservoir with complex oil-water contact, and also provided technical reference for the efficient exploration and development of similar reservoirs. 展开更多

The present research work attempted to delineate and characterize the reservoir facies from the Dawson Canyon Formation in the Penobscot field,Scotian Basin. An integrated study of instantaneous frequency,P-impedance,volume of clay and neutron-porosity attributes, and structural framework was done to unravel the Late Cretaceous depositional system and reservoir facies distribution patterns within the study area.Fault strikes were found in the EW and NEE-SWW directions indicating the dominant course of tectonic activities during the Late Cretaceous period in the region.P-impedance was estimated using model-based seismic inversion.Petrophysical properties such as the neutron porosity(NPHI)and volume of clay(VCL)were estimated using the multilayer perceptron neural network with high accuracy.Comparatively,a combination of low instantaneous frequency(15-30 Hz),moderate to high impedance(7000-9500 gm/cc*m/s),low neutron porosity(27%-40%)and low volume of clay(40%-60%),suggests fair-to-good sandstone development in the Dawson Canyon Formation. After calibration with the welllog data,it is found that further lowering in these attribute responses signifies the clean sandstone facies possibly containing hydrocarbons. The present study suggests that the shale lithofacies dominates the Late Cretaceous deposition(Dawson Canyon Formation)in the Penobscot field,Scotian Basin.Major faults and overlying shale facies provide structural and stratigraphic seals and act as a suitable hydrocarbon entrapment mechanism in the Dawson Canyon Formation's reservoirs. The present research advocates the integrated analysis of multi-attributes estimated using different methods to minimize the risk involved in hydrocarbon exploration. 展开更多

The Mangahewa Formation is the primary reservoir target in the Mangahewa Field in the Taranaki Basin,New Zealand. This formation is distinguished by its marginal marine substantial tight-sand reservoir, having thickness exceeding 800 m.The aim of this study is to assess the reservoir properties of the Mangahewa Formation through 3D reservoir modeling, employing 3D seismic data, core data, and well data from the Mangahewa Field.Utilizing variance attributes, the faults and horizons have been identified successfully within the field. The majority of the interpreted faults exhibit dip angles exceeding 60°,with a maximum displacement of 118 m.To detect direct hydrocarbon indicators,root-mean-square amplitude seismic attribute, envelope, and generalized spectral decomposition techniques have been employed.Subsequently, four lithofacies, comprising 78.3%sandstone,9.2%siltstone,9.5%claystone,and 3.0%coal have been established by utilizing the Sequential Indicator Simulation(SIS)algorithm to create a lithofacies model.A property model has been generated using the Sequential Gaussian Simulation(SGS)algorithm.Petrophysical evaluation indicates that the Mangahewa Formation exhibits reservoir qualities ranging from fair to good, with porosity levels between 8%and 11%,permeability averaging up to 10 mD,variable shale volumes, and hydrocarbon saturation in the range of 40%-50%.This study's methodologies and findings can serve as a valuable foundation for similar investigations in other tightsand gas fields located in different regions. 展开更多

Taking the Paleogene Shahejie Formation in Nanpu sag of Bohai Bay Basin as an example, this study comprehensively utilizes seismic, mud logging, well logging, physical property analysis and core thin section data to investigate the metamorphic reservoir formed by contact metamorphism after igneous rock intrusion.(1)A geological model of the igneous intrusion contact met amorphic system is proposed, which can be divided into five structural layers vertically:the intrusion, upper metamorphic aureole, lower metamorphic aureole, normal sedimentary layers on the roof and floor.(2)The intrusion is characterized by xenoliths indicating intrusive facies at the top, regular changes in rock texture and mineral crystallization from the center to the edge on a microscopic scale, and low-angle oblique penetrations of the intrusion through sedimentary strata on a macroscopic scale. The metamorphic aureole has characteristics such as sedimentary rocks as the host rock, typical palimpsest textures developed, various low-temperature thermal metamorphic minerals developed, and medium-low grade thermal metamorphic rocks as the lithology.(3)The reservoir in contact metamorphic aureole has two types of reservoir spaces:matrix pores and fractures. The matrix pores are secondary"intergranular pores"distributed around metamorphic minerals after thermal metamorphic transformation in metasandstones. The fractures are mainly structural fractures and intrusive compressive fractures in metamudstones. The reservoirs generally have three spatial distribution characteristics:layered, porphyritic and hydrocarbon impregnation along fracture.(4)The distribution of reservoirs in the metamorphic aureole is mainly controlled by the intensity of thermal baking.Furthermore, the distribution of favorable reservoirs is controlled by the coupling of favorable lithofacies and thermal contact metamorphism, intrusive compression and hydrothermal dissolution. The proposal and application of the geological model of the intrusion contact metamorphic system are expected to promote the discovery of exploration targets of contact metamorphic rock in Nanpu sag,and provide a reference for the study and exploration of deep contact metamorphic rock reservoirs in the Bohai Bay Basin. 展开更多

To solve the problems in restoring sedimentary facies and predicting reservoirs in loose gas-bearing sediment, based on seismic sedimentologic analysis of the first 9-component S-wave 3D seismic dataset of China,a fourth-order isochronous stratigraphic framework was set up and then sedimentary facies and reservoirs in the Pleistocene Qigequan Formation in Taidong area of Qaidam Basin were studied by seismic geomorphology and seismic lithology. The study method and thought are as following.Firstly, techniques of phase rotation, frequency decomposition and fusion, and stratal slicing were applied to the 9-component S-wave seismic data to restore sedimentary facies of major marker beds based on sedimentary models reflected by satellite images. Then, techniques of seismic attribute extraction, principal component analysis, and random fitting were applied to calculate the reservoir thickness and physical parameters of a key sandbody, and the results are satisfactory and confirmed by blind testing wells.Study results reveal that the dominant sedimentary facies in the Qigequan Formation within the study area are delta front and shallow lake. The RGB fused slices indicate that there are two cycles with three sets of underwater distributary channel systems in one period.Among them, sandstones in the distributary channels of middle-low Qigequan Formation are thick and broad with superior physical properties, which are favorable reservoirs. The reservoir permeability is also affected by diagenesis.Distributary channel sandstone reservoirs extend further to the west of Sebei-1 gas field, which provides a basis to expand exploration to the western peripheral area. 展开更多

The Daqing exploration area in the northern Songliao Basin has great potential for unconventional oil and gas resources, among which the total resources of tight oil alone exceed 109 t and is regarded as an important resource base of Daqing oilfield. After years of exploration in the Qijia area,Songliao Basin,NE China, tight oil has been found in the Upper Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation. To work out tight oil’s geological characteristics, taking tight oil in Gaotaizi oil layers of the Upper Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation in northern Songliao Basin as an example, this paper systematically analyzed the geological characteristics of unconventional tight oil in Gao3 and Gao4 layers of the Qijia area, based on the data of the geological survey, well drilling journey, well logging, and test.It is that three sets of hydrocarbon source rocks(K2qn1,K2qn2+3,and K2n1)develop in the examined area, and exhibit excellent type I and II kerogens, high organic matter abundance, and moderate maturity. The reservoir is generally composed of thin-bedded mudstone, siltstone, and sandstone, and presents poor porosity(average 8.5 vol.%)and air permeability(average 4 mD).The main reservoir space primarily includes intergranular pores, secondary soluble pores, and intergranular soluble pores.Three types of orifice throats were identified, namely fine throat,extra-fine throat, and micro-fine throat. The siltstone is generally oil-bearing,the reservoirs with slime and calcium become worse oil-bearing,and the mudstone has no obvious oil-bearing characteristics. The brittleness indices of the sandstone in the tight oil reservoir range from 40%to 60%,and those of the mudstone range from 40%to 45%,indicating a better brittleness of the tight oil reservoir.Based on the study of typical core hole data, this paper gives a comprehensive evaluation of the properties of the tight oil and establishes a tight oil single well composite bar chart as well as the initial evaluation system with the core of properties in the tight oil reservoir. This study has theoretical guiding significance and practical application value for tight oil exploration and evaluation in the Qijia area. 展开更多

Taking the Lower Cretaceous Qingshuihe Formation in the southern margin of Junggar Basin as an example, the influences of the burial process in a foreland basin on the diagenesis and the development of high-quality reservoirs of deep and ultra-deep clastic rocks were investigated using thin section, scanning electron microscope, electron probe, stable isotopic composition and fluid inclusion data. The Qingshuihe Formation went through four burial stages of slow shallow burial, tectonic uplift, progressive deep burial and rapid deep burial successively. The stages of slow shallow burial and tectonic uplift not only can alleviate the mechanical compaction of grains, but also can maintain an open diagenetic system in the reservoirs for a long time, which promotes the dissolution of soluble components by meteoric freshwater and inhibits the precipitation of dissolution products in the reservoirs. The late rapid deep burial process contributed to the development of fluid overpressure, which effectively inhibits the destruction of primary pores by compaction and cementation. The fluid overpressure promotes the development of microfractures in the reservoir, which enhances the dissolution effect of organic acids.Based on the quantitative reconstruction of porosity evolution history,it is found that the long-term slow shallow burial and tectonic uplift processes make the greatest contribution to the development of deep-ultra-deep high-quality clastic rock reservoirs, followed by the late rapid deep burial process, and the progressive deep burial process has little contribution. 展开更多

Tight oil reservoirs in the south Ordos Basin are characterized by fractured, heterogeneous oil-bearing strata(an oil saturation of less than 55%on average),normal pressure(0.8±)and extra-low permeability(less than 0.3 mD).In the Chang 8 tight sandstone reservoir in Honghe oilfield,micro-and nanopores, especially those with a pore-throat radius of less than 1 mm,account for more than 90%.Fluid flow in the matrix is non-linear and crude oil flow rates are very low under normal pressure gradients. An improved understanding of oil mobility in a tight matrix is key to further development of normalpressure tight-oil resources in the continental basin. In this study,constant-velocity and high-pressure mercury injection experiments were conducted using samples of typical tight sandstone cores obtained from the south of Ordos Basin.A new method for reconstructing the full-scale pore-throat distribution characteristics of tight sandstone reservoirs was established successfully, based on which multistage centrifugal tests, tests of low-pressure differential displacement of oil by water, and nuclear magnetic resonance tests were conducted in order to obtain the distribution characteristics of moveable fluid in different pores. The moveable oil saturation(MOS)and degree of oil recovery(i.e.ratio of accumulative oil production to producing geologic reserves)of the core samples under different differential pressures for displacement were determined. As for the tight oil reservoirs in the south Ordos Basin, the moveable fluids are mainly stored in sub-micron(0.10-0.5 mm)pores. For Type I reservoirs(k>0.1 mD),the volume percentage of moveable fluid in pores with a radius larger than 0.5 mm is relatively high(greater than 40%).The degree of oil recovery of water flooding serves as the basis for forecasting recoverable reserves for tight oil reservoirs.Recoverable reserves under water flooding, mainly occur in pores with a radius greater than 0.5 mm.The contribution of Type I reserves to oil production is observed to be greater than 60%,and the degree of oil recovery reaches up to 17.1%.These results help improve our understanding on the evaluation and classification of Chang 8 tight sandstone reservoirs in Honghe oilfield and serve as theoretical basis for pilot tests to explore effective injection media and development methods to improve the matrix-driven pressure differences and displacement efficiency for oil. 展开更多

Based on the geochemical, seismic, logging and drilling data, the Fuyu reservoirs of the Lower Cretaceous Quantou Formation in northern Songliao Basin are systematically studied in terms of the geological characteristics, the tight oil enrichment model and its major controlling factors.First, the Quantou Formation is overlaid by high-quality source rocks of the Upper Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation, with the development of nose structure around sag and the broad and continuous distribution of sand bodies. The reservoirs are tight on the whole.Second, the configuration of multiple elements, such as high-quality source rocks, reservoir rocks, fault, overpressure and structure, controls the tight oil enrichment in the Fuyu reservoirs. The source-reservoir combination controls the tight oil distribution pattern. The pressure difference between source and reservoir drives the charging of tight oil.The fault-sandbody transport system determines the migration and accumulation of oil and gas.The positive structure is the favorable place for tight oil enrichment, and the fault-horst zone is the key part of syncline area for tight oil exploration.Third, based on the source-reservoir relationship, transport mode, accumulation dynamics and other elements, three tight oil enrichment models are recognized in the Fuyu reservoirs:(1)vertical or lateral migration of hydrocarbon from source rocks to adjacent reservoir rocks, that is,driven by overpressure, hydrocarbon generated is migrated vertically or laterally to and accumulates in the adjacent reservoir rocks;(2)transport of hydrocarbon through faults between separated source and reservoirs, that is,driven by overpressure, hydrocarbon migrates downward through faults to the sandbodies that are separated from the source rocks;and(3)migration of hydrocarbon through faults and sandbodies between separated source and reservoirs, that is,driven by overpressure, hydrocarbon migrates downwards through faults to the reservoir rocks that are separated from the source rocks, and then migrates laterally through sandbodies.Fourth, the differences in oil source conditions, charging drive, fault distribution, sandbody and reservoir physical properties cause the differential enrichment of tight oil in the Fuyu reservoirs.Comprehensive analysis suggests that the Fuyu reservoir in the Qijia-Gulong Sag has good conditions for tight oil enrichment and has been less explored, and it is an important new zone for tight oil exploration in the future. 展开更多

This study examines the turbidite dynamics and hydrocarbon reservoir formation in Ghana’s Tano Basin, which is located in coastal West Africa. Through an exploration of geological processes spanning millions of years, we uncover key factors shaping hydrocarbon accumulation, including source rock richness, temperature, pressure, and geological structures. The research offers valuable insights applicable to exploration, management, and sustainable resource exploitation in coastal West Africa. It facilitates the identification of exploration targets with higher hydrocarbon potential, enables the anticipation of reservoir potential within the Tano Basin, and assists in tailoring exploration and management strategies to specific geological conditions of the Tano Basin. Analysis of fluvial channels sheds light on their impact on landscape formation and hydrocarbon exploration. The investigation into turbidite systems unveils intricate interactions involving tectonics, sea-level fluctuations, and sedimentation patterns, influencing the development of reservoirs. An understanding of sediment transport and depositional settings is essential for efficient reservoir management. Geomorphological features, such as channels, submarine canyons, and distinct channel types, are essential in this situation. A detailed examination of turbidite channel structures, encompassing canyons, channel complexes, convex channels, and U-shaped channels, provides valuable insights and aids in identifying exploration targets like basal lag, channel levees, and lobes. These findings underscore the enduring significance of turbidite systems as conduits for sediment transport, contributing to enhanced reservoir management and efficient hydrocarbon production. The study also highlights how important it is to examine the configuration of sedimentary layers, stacking patterns, and angular laminated facies to identify turbidites, understand reservoir distribution, and improve well design. The dynamic nature of turbidite systems, influenced by basin characteristics such as shape and slope, is highlighted. The research provides valuable insights essential for successful hydrocarbon exploration, reservoir management, and sustainable resource exploitation in coastal West Africa. 展开更多

The dissolution and diffusion of CO_(2)in oil and water and its displacement mechanism were investigated by laboratory experiment and numerical simulation for Block 9 in the Tahe oilfield,a sandstone oil reservoir with strong bottom-water drive in Tarim Basin,Northwest China.Such parameters were analyzed as solubility ratio of CO_(2)in oil,gas and water, interfacial tension,in-situ oil viscosity distribution, remaining oil saturation distribution, and oil compositions. The results show that CO_(2)flooding could control water coning and increase oil production. In the early stage of the injection process,CO_(2)expanded vertically due to gravity differentiation, and extended laterally under the action of strong bottom water in the intermediate and late stages. The CO_(2)got enriched and extended at the oil-water interface, forming a high interfacial tension zone, which inhibited the coning of bottom water to some extent.A miscible region with low interfacial tension formed at the gas injection front, which reduced the in-situ oil viscosity by about 50%.The numerical simulation results show that enhanced oil recovery(EOR)is estimated at 5.72%and the oil exchange ratio of CO_(2)is 0.17 t/t. 展开更多

In this paper, the Chang 2 reservoir in Zichang Area of Ordos Basin, the second largest sedimentary basin in China, is classified and evaluated by using logging and core data, thin section identification and electron microscopy. The main sedimentary microfacies of Chang 213 is braided river delta sedimentary system in geological history, and there are three main sedimentary microfacies types: swamp microfacies, distributary channel microfacies and natural embankment microfacies on land. The heterogeneity in the study area is as follows: Chang 212 formation has the strongest heterogeneity, followed by Chang 211 formation with strong heterogeneity, and finally Chang 213 formation with medium heterogeneity. The reservoirs of Chang 2 member in the study area are dominated by IIIa, IIb and IIIb, and the reservoirs are mainly composed of ultra-low porosity and low permeability reservoirs and low porosity and low permeability reservoirs. 展开更多

Large reservoirs have the risk of reservoir induced seismicity.Accurately detecting and locating microseismic events are crucial when studying reservoir earthquakes.Automatic earthquake monitoring in reservoir areas is one of the effective measures for earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation. In this study,we first applied the automatic location workflow(named LOCFLOW)to process 14-day continuous waveform data from several reservoir areas in different river basins of Guizhou province.Compared with the manual seismic catalog, the recall rate of seismic event detection using the workflow was 83.9%.Of the detected earthquakes,88.9%had an onset time difference below 1 s,81.8%has a deviation in epicenter location within 5 km,and 77.8%had a focal depth difference of less than 5 km,indicating that the workflow has good generalization capacity in reservoir areas. We further applied the workflow to retrospectively process continuous waveform data recorded from 2020 to the first half of 2021 in reservoir areas in multiple river basins of western Guizhou province and identified five times the number of seismic events obtained through manual processing.Compared with manual processing of seismic catalog, the completeness magnitude had decreased from 1.3 to 0.8,and a b-value of 1.25 was calculated for seismicity in western Guizhou province, consistent with the b-values obtained for the reservoir area in previous studies. Our results show that seismicity levels were relatively low around large reservoirs that were impounded over 15 years ago,and there is no significant correlation between the seismicity in these areas and reservoir impoundment.Seismicity patterns were notably different around two large reservoirs that were only impounded about 12 years ago, which may be explained by differences in reservoir storage capacity, the geologic and tectonic settings, hydrogeological characteristics, and active fault the reservoir areas.Prominent seismicity persisted around two large reservoirs that have been impounded for less than 10 years. These events were clustered and had relatively shallow focal depths. The impoundment of the Jiayan Reservoir had not officially begun during this study period, but earthquake location results suggested a high seismicity level in this reservoir area. Therefore, any seismicity in this reservoir area after the official impoundment deserves special attention. 展开更多

The Palaeozoic carbonate basement of the Offshore Bohai Bay Basin (OBBB) presents considerable potential for hydrocarbon exploration. However, the multistage tectonism and complex superimposed palaeo-karstification in the area are unclear, which leads to a lack of understanding on the formation mechanism and distribution of the deep carbonate basement reservoirs. In this study, the occurrence of a fracture-vug network and its fillings in carbonate reservoirs were investigated based on borehole cores, thin sections, and image logs from the southwestern slope of the OBBB's Bozhong Sag. Then the diagenetic fluid properties of the carbonate matrix and fillings were analysed via the data of carbon, oxygen, and strontium isotopes, and major, rare elements from coring intervals. The results revealed that fracture-related karst reservoirs have lithologic selectivity inclined toward dolomite strata. The intersecting relationships, widths, and strikes of the fractures and the regional tectonic background indicate three structural fracture families: NW-, NNE-, and NNW- trending, related to the Indosinian, middle Yanshanian, and late Yanshanian orogeny, respectively. The Indosinian NW- and end-Mesozoic NNE-trending fractures produced by compressional tectonic stress mainly contributed to the formation of the basement reservoirs. The geochemistry of the calcite veins filling these fractures suggests two main types of diagenetic fluids. The fluid of autogenic recharge related to the earlier fills is karstification diffuse flow dominated by internal runoff from rainfall in the highland setting of the Indosinian thrusting orogenic belt. The other fluid of allogenic recharge related to the later fills is the main lateral freshwater flow dominated by external runoff from the catchment in the setting of the horst-lowland within the rifting basin, induced by the Yanshanian destruction of the North China Craton. Finally, the relationship between the three fracture families and two kinds of related fluids is revealed. This allows us to propose a model to understand the polyphase-superimposed fracture-related karst reservoir complexes within the deep carbonate basement of tilting fault blocks that neighbour the Bozhong hydrocarbon kitchen and predict the formation of potential plays with high accuracy. 展开更多

A rarely reported middle-late Miocene-Pliocene channel(incised valley fill),the Huaguang Channel(HGC),has been found in the deep-water area of the southwestern Qiongdongnan Basin(QDNB).This channel is almost perpendicular to the orientation of another well-known,large,and nearly coeval submarine channel in this area.Based on the interpretation of high-resolution 3D seismic data, this study describes and analyzes the stratigraphy, tectonics, sedimentation, morphology, structure and evolution of HGC by means of well-seismic synthetic calibration,one-and two-dimensional forward modeling, attribute interpretation, tectonic interpretation, and gas detection. The HGC is located on the downthrown side of an earlier activated normal fault and grew northwestward along the fault strike. The channel is part of a slope that extends from the western Huaguang Sag to the eastern Beijiao Uplift. The HGC underwent four developmental stages:the(1)incubation(late Sanya Formation,20.4–15.5 Ma),(2)embryonic(Meishan Formation,15.5–10.5 Ma),(3)peak(Huangliu Formation,10.5–5.5 Ma)and(4)decline(Yinggehai Formation,5.5–1.9 Ma)stages. The channel sandstones have a provenance from the southern Yongle Uplift and filled the channel via multistage vertical amalgamation and lateral migration. The channel extended 42.5 km in an approximately straight pattern in the peak stage. At 10.5 Ma,sea level fell relative to its lowest level, and three oblique progradation turbidite sand bodies filled the channel from south to north.A channel sandstone isopach map demonstrated a narrow distribution in the early stages and a fan-shaped distribution in the late stage. The formation and evolution of the HGC were controlled mainly by background tectonics, fault strike, relative sea level change, and mass supply from the Yongle Uplift. The HGC sandstone reservoir is near the Huaguangjiao Sag,where hydrocarbons were generated.Channel-bounding faults and underlying faults link the source rock with the reservoir.A regionally extensive mudstone caprock overlies the channel sandstone. Two traps likely containing gas were recognized in a structural high upstream of the channel from seismic attenuation anomalies. The HGC will likely become an important oil and gas accumulation setting in the QDNB deep-water area. 展开更多

Through the long development processes of reservoir sedimentation and diagenesis, acidic and alkaline fluids play key roles in controlling deep reservoir development. However, the ways in which deep fluids control and transform the reservoir under complex fault conditions remain unclear. In this study, a 2D model was established based on a typical sub-salt to intra-salt vertical profile in the Qaidam Basin, China. Based on measured data, multiphase flow reaction and solute transport simulation technology were used to analyze fluids flow and migration in the intra-salt and sub-salt reservoirs, determine the mineral dissolution, precipitation, and transformation in the reservoir caused by the deep fluids, and calculate the changes in reservoir porosity. Results show that deep fluid migrates preferentially along dominant channels and triggers a series of fluid–rock chemical reactions. In the first stage, a large amount of anhydrite precipitated in the fault as a result of upward migration of deep saline fluid, resulting in the formation of anhydrite veins and blockage at the base of the fault. In the second stage, organic acids caused minerals dissolution and a vertical channel was opened in previously blocked area, which promoted continuous upward migration of organic acids and the formation of secondary pores. This study clarifies the transformative effects of deep alkaline and acidic fluids on the reservoir. Moreover, the important fluid transport role of faults and their effect on reservoir development were determined. 展开更多
