Brain functional networks model the brain's ability to exchange information across different regions, aiding in the understanding of the cognitive process of human visual attention during target searching, thereby contributing to the advancement of camouflage evaluation. In this study, images with various camouflage effects were presented to observers to generate electroencephalography(EEG)signals, which were then used to construct a brain functional network. The topological parameters of the network were subsequently extracted and input into a machine learning model for training. The results indicate that most of the classifiers achieved accuracy rates exceeding 70%.Specifically,the Logistic algorithm achieved an accuracy of 81.67%.Therefore,it is possible to predict target camouflage effectiveness with high accuracy without the need to calculate discovery probability. The proposed method fully considers the aspects of human visual and cognitive processes, overcomes the subjectivity of human interpretation, and achieves stable and reliable accuracy. 展开更多

The structure and function of brain networks have been altered in patients with end-stage renal disease(ESRD).Manifold regularization(MR)only considers the pairing relationship between two brain regions and cannot represent functional interactions or higher-order relationships between multiple brain regions. To solve this issue,we developed a method to construct a dynamic brain functional network(DBFN)based on dynamic hypergraph MR(DHMR)and applied it to the classification of ESRD associated with mild cognitive impairment(ESRDaMCI).The construction of DBFN with Pearson’s correlation(PC)was transformed into an optimization model.Node convolution and hyperedge convolution superposition were adopted to dynamically modify the hypergraph structure, and then got the dynamic hypergraph to form the manifold regular terms of the dynamic hypergraph. The DHMR and L_(1) norm regularization were introduced into the PC-based optimization model to obtain the final DHMR-based DBFN(DDBFN).Experiment results demonstrated the validity of the DDBFN method by comparing the classification results with several related brain functional network construction methods. Our work not only improves better classification performance but also reveals the discriminative regions of ESRDaMCI,providing a reference for clinical research and auxiliary diagnosis of concomitant cognitive impairments. 展开更多

Since the outbreak and spread of corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19),the prevalence of mental disorders, such as depression, has continued to increase. To explore the abnormal changes of brain functional connections in patients with depression, this paper proposes a depression analysis method based on brain function network(BFN).To avoid the volume conductor effect,BFN was constructed based on phase lag index(PLI).Then the indicators closely related to depression were selected from weighted BFN based on small-worldness(SW)characteristics and binarization BFN based on the minimum spanning tree(MST).Differences analysis between groups and correlation analysis between these indicators and diagnostic indicators were performed in turn. The resting state electroencephalogram(EEG)data of 24 patients with depression and 29 healthy controls(HC)was used to verify our proposed method. The results showed that compared with HC,the information processing of BFN in patients with depression decreased, and BFN showed a trend of randomization. 展开更多

Studies have shown that functional network connection models can be used to study brain net- work changes in patients with schizophrenia. In this study, we inferred that these models could also be used to explore functional network connectivity changes in stroke patients. We used independent component analysis to find the motor areas of stroke patients, which is a novel way to determine these areas. In this study, we collected functional magnetic resonance imaging datasets from healthy controls and right-handed stroke patients following their first ever stroke. Using independent component analysis, six spatially independent components highly correlat- ed to the experimental paradigm were extracted. Then, the functional network connectivity of both patients and controls was established to observe the differences between them. The results showed that there were 11 connections in the model in the stroke patients, while there were only four connections in the healthy controls. Further analysis found that some damaged connections may be compensated for by new indirect connections or circuits produced after stroke. These connections may have a direct correlation with the degree of stroke rehabilitation. Our findings suggest that functional network connectivity in stroke patients is more complex than that in hea- lthy controls, and that there is a compensation loop in the functional network following stroke. This implies that functional network reorganization plays a very important role in the process of rehabilitation after stroke. 展开更多

Landslides are common natural hazards occurring in most parts of the world and have considerable adverse economic effects. Residual shear strength of clay is one of the most important factors in the determination of stability of slopes or landslides. This effect is more pronounced in sensitive clays which show large changes in shear strength from peak to residual states. This study analyses the prediction of the residual strength of clay based on a new prediction model, functional networks(FN) using data available in the literature. The performance of FN was compared with support vector machine(SVM) and artificial neural network(ANN) based on statistical parameters like correlation coefficient(R), Nash–Sutcliff coefficient of efficiency(E), absolute average error(AAE), maximum average error(MAE) and root mean square error(RMSE). Based on R and E parameters, FN is found to be a better prediction tool than ANN for the given data. However, the R and E values for FN are less than SVM. A prediction equation is presented that can be used by practicing geotechnical engineers. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to ascertain the importance of various inputs in the prediction of the output. 展开更多

Examining the spontaneous BOLD activity to understand the neural mechanism of Parkinson’s disease(PD)with mild cognitive impairment(MCI)is a focus in resting-state functional MRI(rs-fMRI)studies.This study aimed to investigate the alteration of brain functional connectivity in PD with MCI in a systematical way at two levels:functional connectivity analysis within resting state networks(RSNs)and functional network connectivity(FNC)analysis.Using group independent component analysis(ICA)on rs-fMRI data acquired from 30 participants(14 healthy controls and 16 PD patients with MCI),16 RSNs were identified, and functional connectivity analysis within the RSNs and FNC analysis were carried out between groups.Compared to controls, patients with PD showed decreased functional connectivity within putamen network, thalamus network, cerebellar network, attention network, and self-referential network, and increased functional connectivity within execution network.Globally disturbed, mostly increased functional connectivity of FNC was observed in PD group, and insular network and execution network were the dominant network with extensively increased functional connectivity with other RSNs.Cerebellar network showed decreased functional connectivity with caudate network, insular network, and self-referential network. In general, decreased functional connectivity within RSNs and globally disturbed, mostly increased functional connectivity of FNC may be characteristics of PD.Increased functional connectivity within execution network may be an early marker of PD.The multi-perspective study based on RSNs may be a valuable means to assess functional changes corresponding to specific RSN,contributing to the understanding of the neural mechanism of PD. 展开更多

Currently, functional connectomes constructed from neuroimaging data have emerged as a powerful tool in identifying brain disorders. If one brain disease just manifests as some cognitive dysfunction,it means that the disease may affect some local connectivity in the brain functional network. That is,there are functional abnormalities in the sub-network.Therefore,it is crucial to accurately identify them in pathological diagnosis. To solve these problems,we proposed a sub-network extraction method based on graph regularization nonnegative matrix factorization(GNMF).The dynamic functional networks of normal subjects and early mild cognitive impairment(eMCI)subjects were vectorized and the functional connection vectors(FCV)were assembled to aggregation matrices. Then GNMF was applied to factorize the aggregation matrix to get the base matrix,in which the column vectors were restored to a common sub-network and a distinctive sub-network,and visualization and statistical analysis were conducted on the two sub-networks,respectively.Experimental results demonstrated that, compared with other matrix factorization methods, the proposed method can more obviously reflect the similarity between the common subnetwork of eMCI subjects and normal subjects,as well as the difference between the distinctive sub-network of eMCI subjects and normal subjects,Therefore, the high-dimensional features in brain functional networks can be best represented locally in the lowdimensional space, which provides a new idea for studying brain functional connectomes. 展开更多

Purpose: Brain functional networks (BFNs) has become important approach for diagnosis of some neurological or psychological disorders. Before estimating BFN, obtaining blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) representative signals from brain regions of interest (ROIs) is important. In the past decades, the common method is generally to take a ROI as a node, averaging all the voxel time series inside it to extract a representative signal. However, one node does not represent the entire information of this ROI, and averaging method often leads to signal cancellation and information loss. Inspired by this, we propose a novel model extraction method based on an assumption that a ROI can be represented by multiple nodes. Methods: In this paper, we first extract multiple nodes (the number is user-defined) from the ROI based on two traditional methods, including principal component analysis (PCA), and K-means (Clustering according to the spatial position of voxels). Then, canonical correlation analysis (CCA) was issued to construct BFNs by maximizing the correlation between the representative signals corresponding to the nodes in any two ROIs. Finally, to further verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the estimated BFNs are applied to identify subjects with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from health controls (HCs). Results: Experimental results on two benchmark databases demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the baseline method in the sense of classification performance. Conclusions: We propose a novel method for obtaining nodes of ROId based on the hypothesis that a ROI can be represented by multiple nodes, that is, to extract the node signals of ROIs with K-means or PCA. Then, CCA is used to construct BFNs. 展开更多

Rhythm of brain activities represents oscillations of postsynaptic potentials in neocortex, therefore it can serve as an indicator of the brain activity state. In order to check the connectivity of brain rhythm, this paper develops a new method of constructing functional network based on phase synchronization. Electroencephalogram (EEG) data were collected while subjects looking at a green cross in two states, performing an attention task and relaxing with eyes-open. The EEG from these two states was filtered by three band-pass filters to obtain signals of theta (4-7 Hz), alpha (8-13 Hz) and beta (14-30 Hz) bands. Mean resultant length was used to estimate strength of phase synchronization in three bands to construct networks of both states, and mean degree K and cluster coefficient C of networks were calculated as a function of threshold. The result shows higher cluster coetticient in the attention state than in the eyes-open state in all three bands, suggesting that cluster coefficient reflects brain state. In addition, an obvious fronto-parietal network is found in the attention state, which is a well-known attention network. These results indicate that attention modulates the fronto-parietal connectivity in different modes as compared with the eyes-open state. Taken together this method is an objective and important tool to study the properties of neural networks of brain rhythm, 展开更多

Functional brain networks (FBN) based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) have become an important tool for exploring underlying organization patterns in the brain, which can provide an objective basis for brain disorders such as autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). Due to its importance, researchers have proposed a number of FBN estimation methods. However, most existing methods only model a type of functional connection relationship between brain regions-of-interest (ROIs), such as partial correlation or full correlation, which is difficult to fully capture the subtle connections among ROIs since these connections are extremely complex. Motivated by the multi-view learning, in this study we propose a novel Consistent and Specific Multi-view FBNs Fusion (CSMF) approach. Concretely, we first construct multi-view FBNs (i.e., multiple types of FBNs modelling various relationships among ROIs), and then these FBNs are decomposed into a consistent representation matrix and their own specific matrices which capture their common and unique information, respectively. Lastly, to obtain a better brain representation, it is fusing the consistent and specific representation matrices in the latent representation spaces of FBNs, but not directly fusing the original FBNs. This potentially makes it more easily to find the comprehensively brain connections. The experimental results of ASD identification on the ABIDE datasets validate the effectiveness of our proposed method compared to several state-of-the-art methods. Our proposed CSMF method achieved 72.8% and 76.67% classification performance on the ABIDE dataset. 展开更多

Software Defined Network(SDN)and Network Function Virtualization(NFV)technology promote several benefits to network operators, including reduced maintenance costs, increased network operational performance, simplified network lifecycle, and policies management.Network vulnerabilities try to modify services provided by Network Function Virtualization MANagement and Orchestration(NFV MANO),and malicious attacks in different scenarios disrupt the NFV Orchestrator(NFVO)and Virtualized Infrastructure Manager(VIM)lifecycle management related to network services or individual Virtualized Network Function(VNF).This paper proposes an anomaly detection mechanism that monitors threats in NFV MANO and manages promptly and adaptively to implement and handle security functions in order to enhance the quality of experience for end users. An anomaly detector investigates these identified risks and provides secure network services. It enables virtual network security functions and identifies anomalies in Kubernetes(a cloud-based platform). For training and testing purpose of the proposed approach,an intrusion-containing dataset is used that hold multiple malicious activities like a Smurf,Neptune,Teardrop,Pod,Land,IPsweep, etc.,categorized as Probing(Prob),Denial of Service(DoS),User to Root(U2R),and Remote to User(R2L)attacks.An anomaly detector is anticipated with the capabilities of a Machine Learning(ML)technique, making use of supervised learning techniques like Logistic Regression(LR),Support Vector Machine(SVM),Random Forest(RF),Naïve Bayes(NB),and Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost). The proposed framework has been evaluated by deploying the identified ML algorithm on a Jupyter notebook in Kubeflow to simulate Kubernetes for validation purposes.RF classifier has shown better outcomes(99.90%accuracy)than other classifiers in detecting anomalies/intrusions in the containerized environment. 展开更多

With the advancements of software defined network(SDN)and network function virtualization(NFV),service function chain(SFC)placement becomes a crucial enabler for flexible resource scheduling in low earth orbit(LEO)satellite networks. While due to the scarcity of bandwidth resources and dynamic topology of LEO satellites, the static SFC placement schemes may cause performance degradation, resource waste and even service failure. In this paper,we consider migration and establish an online migration model, especially considering the dynamic topology.Given the scarcity of bandwidth resources, the model aims to maximize the total number of accepted SFCs while incurring as little bandwidth cost of SFC transmission and migration as possible.Due to its NP-hardness,we propose a heuristic minimized dynamic SFC migration(MDSM)algorithm that only triggers the migration procedure when new SFCs are rejected.Simulation results demonstrate that MDSM achieves a performance close to the upper bound with lower complexity. 展开更多

Background: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) can alleviate the symptoms of treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Functional network connectivity (FNC) is a newly developed method to investigate the brain's functional connectivity patterns. The first aim of this study was to investigate FNC alterations between TRD patients and healthy controls. The second aim was to explore the relationship between the ECT treatment response and pre-ECT treatment FNC alterations in individual TRD patients. Methods: This study included 82 TRD patients and 41 controls. Patients were screened at baseline and after 2 weeks of treatment with a combination of ECT and antidepressants. Group information guided-independent component analysis (G1G-ICA) was used to compute subject-specific functional networks (FNs). Grassmann maniibld and step-wise forward component selection using support vector machines were adopted to perform the FNC measure and extract the functional networks' connectivity patterns (FCP). Pearson's correlation analysis was used to calculate the correlations between the FCP and ECT response. Results: A total of 82 TRD patients in the ECT group were successfully treated. On an average, 8.50 ~ 2.00 ECT sessions were conducted. After ECT treatment, only 42 TRD patients had an improved response to ECT (the Hamilton scores reduction rate was more than 50%), response rate 51%. 8 FNs (anterior and posterior default mode network, bilateral frontoparietal network, audio network, visual network, dorsal attention network, and sensorimotor network) were obtained using GIG-ICA. We did not found that FCPs were significantly different between TRD patients and healthy controls. Moreover, the baseline FCP was unrelated to the ECT treatment response. Conclusions: The FNC was not significantly different between the TRD patients and healthy controls, and the baseline FCP was unrelated to the ECT treatment response. These findings will necessitate that we modify the experimental scheme to explore the mechanisms underlying ECT's effects on depression and explore the specific predictors of the effects of ECT based on the pre-ECT treatment magnetic resonance imaging. 展开更多

Background Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(RS-fMRI)has been proved to be a useful tool to study the brain mechanism in the quest to probe the distinct pattern of inter-region interactions in the brain. As an important application of RSfMRI,the graph-based approach characterizes the brain as a complex network. However, the network is susceptible to its scale that determines the trade-off between sensitivity and anatomical variability. Objective To balance sensitivity and anatomical variability,a pyramid representation of the functional network is proposed, which is composed of five individual networks reconstructed at multiple scales. Methods The pyramid representation of the functional network was applied to two groups of participants, including patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD)and normal elderly(NC)individuals,as a demonstration.Features were extracted from the multi-scale networks andwere evaluated with their inter-group differences between AD andNC,aswell as the discriminative power in recognizing AD.Moreover, the proposed method was also validated by another dataset from people with autism. Results The different features reflect the highest sensitivity to distinguish AD at different scales. In addition, the combined features have higher accuracy than any single scale-based feature. These findings highlight the potential use ofmulti-scale features asmarkers of the disrupted topological organization in AD networks. Conclusion We believe that multi-scale metrics could provide a more comprehensive characterization of the functional network and thus provide a promising solution for representing the underlying functional mechanism in the human brain on a multi-scale basis. 展开更多

The control law design for a near-space hypersonic vehicle(NHV) is highly challenging due to its inherent nonlinearity, plant uncertainties and sensitivity to disturbances. This paper presents a novel functional link network(FLN) control method for an NHV with dynamical thrust and parameter uncertainties. The approach devises a new partially-feedback-functional-link-network(PFFLN) adaptive law and combines it with the nonlinear generalized predictive control(NGPC) algorithm. The PFFLN is employed for approximating uncertainties in flight. Its weights are online tuned based on Lyapunov stability theorem for the first time. The learning process does not need any offline training phase.Additionally,a robust controller with an adaptive gain is designed to offset the approximation error. Finally, simulation results show a satisfactory performance for the NHV attitude tracking, and also illustrate the controller's robustness. 展开更多

Deep excavation during the construction of underground systems can cause movement on the ground, especially in soft clay layers. At high levels, excessive ground movements can lead to severe damage to adjacent structures. In this study, finite element analyses(FEM)and the hardening small strain(HSS)model were performed to investigate the deflection of the diaphragm wall in the soft clay layer induced by braced excavations.Different geometric and mechanical properties of the wall were investigated to study the deflection behavior of the wall in soft clays.Accordingly,1090 hypothetical cases were surveyed and simulated based on the HSS model and FEM to evaluate the wall deflection behavior. The results were then used to develop an intelligent model for predicting wall deflection using the functional linked neural network(FLNN)with different functional expansions and activation functions.Although the FLNN is a novel approach to predict wall deflection;however,in order to improve the accuracy of the FLNN model in predicting wall deflection, three swarm-based optimization algorithms, such as artificial bee colony(ABC),Harris’s hawk’s optimization(HHO),and hunger games search(HGS),were hybridized to the FLNN model to generate three novel intelligent models, namely ABC-FLNN,HHO-FLNN,HGS-FLNN.The results of the hybrid models were then compared with the basic FLNN and MLP models. They revealed that FLNN is a good solution for predicting wall deflection, and the application of different functional expansions and activation functions has a significant effect on the outcome predictions of the wall deflection. It is remarkably interesting that the performance of the FLNN model was better than the MLP model with a mean absolute error(MAE)of 19.971,root-mean-squared error(RMSE)of 24.574,and determination coefficient(R^(2))of 0.878.Meanwhile,the performance of the MLP model only obtained an MAE of 20.321,RMSE of 27.091,and R^(2)of 0.851.Furthermore,the results also indicated that the proposed hybrid models,i.e.,ABC-FLNN,HHO-FLNN,HGS-FLNN,yielded more superior performances than those of the FLNN and MLP models in terms of the prediction of deflection behavior of diaphragm walls with an MAE in the range of 11.877 to 12.239,RMSE in the range of 15.821 to 16.045,and R^(2)in the range of 0.949 to 0.951.They can be used as an alternative tool to simulate diaphragm wall deflections under different conditions with a high degree of accuracy. 展开更多

The air cooler is an important equipment in the petroleum refining industry.Ammonium chloride(NH4 Cl)deposition-induced corrosion is one of its main failure forms. In this study, the ammonium salt crystallization temperature is chosen as the key decision variable of NH4 Cl deposition-induced corrosion through in-depth mechanism research and experimental analysis. The functional link neural network(FLNN)is adopted as the basic algorithm for modeling because of its advantages in dealing with non-linear problems and its fast-computational ability.A hybrid FLNN attached to a small norm is built to improve the generalization performance of the model. Then, the trained model is used to predict the NH4 Cl salt crystallization temperature in the air cooler of a sour water stripper plant.Experimental results show the proposed improved FLNN algorithm can achieve better generalization performance than the PLS,the back propagation neural network, and the conventional FLNN models. 展开更多
